Linksys Wireless Router :: EA3500 - Using External Drive As Time Capsule
Aug 15, 2012
I'm looking to buy an EA3500. I want to hook an external drive to the USB port and use it as a Time Capsule drive with Mountain Lion. Is this supported?
I'm not exactly sure if this is a networking problem or a Windows problem. I have a Linksys ea3500 router to which I have connected a WD My Book external drive via the USB port. When I view the router's webpage, I can see my drive listed under the storage tab; however, I cannot map the drive on my laptop. Whenever I try to do so, it gives me the 0x80070035 error. If I run the Windows diagnostic, it tells me the drive will not accept the connection.
I try to connect my LinkSys wrt320n with Apple Time Capsule with mode "sahring existing wireless network" and so Time capsule doesn't work. It gets IP, but writes "isn't internet connection, WiFi network don't find" and also in the admipage of my wrt320 I can't see Time Capsule as client.
I've brought a SG300-10 switch and would like to connect it to an Apple Time Capsule (as the base station of my wireless network), Apple Airport Extreme (to extend my wireless network) and 3 x NAS. What is the best way to connect?
Internet > SG300 > Apple TC + NAS x 4 + Apple Airport Extreme (to extended my wireless network) + Mac Pro/iMac'sInternet > Apple TC > SG300 > NAS x 4 (connect to the SG300) + Apple Airport Extreme (to extended my wireless network) + Mac Pro/iMac'sI need the SG300 because the Apple TC doesn't have enough network ports to cennect all my other devices.
i've 8GB Sandisc flash drive connected. it works briefly, then it's lost from the the newtwork and i don't see it until i do a power cycle on the router.
i can see it fine in the setup page, but it's not visible on the network.
I have a EA3500 wireless router with the new style (smartwifi) firmware. I've scoured the web admin interface and can't find any sort of 'status' page that would tell me the external IP. I've looked through the support docs but they only show how to find internal/local IP.
When i connect my Seagate Backup Plus Drive to the USB port on my EA3500 the drive becomes available on my network but it never spins down even when not in use. Is there any way to correct this? If the drive spins 24/7 its going to die very fast.
I'm runing an ea3500 in bridged mode, classic configuration, firmware 1.0.30 build 126544. I got ftp working for my usb attached wv delements drive , but it is totally invisible in windows (except for ftp of course).I read in an older post that the usb drive in certain situations does not work (independent of disk manufacturer/type and such) and for certain configurations the ftp option might work but the windows mapped network drive doesn't , does that still apply? does it apply to bridged mode ?
I bought an EA 3500 refurbished through linksys. I can't configurate it using the CD-Rom. Always said "can't find your router". So I flash with the classic firmware, and it fixs the problem and automatically upgrade to smart Wi-Fi. That being said, whenever I plug in a portable hard drive, the router disconnect from internet after a minute. I tried my seagate HDD and also my flash driver. Both Lost internet after a minute or so. So I think it is probably the router's problem.
Similar to this issue with the EA4500 - I have the same issue with maping the drives from both PC and Mac - the USB drive is recognized, admin/user names are coreated appropriately, the folder structure is imported into the admin control..similar issue with EA4500 user here
I was wondering if the EA3500 would support splitting the USB (buying a USB tree) to allow for both a printer and hard drive to connect at the same time?
I recently bought EA3500 router. I am not able to hook up 2 storage external HDD and 1 USB printer usnig the router.I am connecting all 3 to a USB hub which i am connecting to the router.
At home I have been trying to set up this Time Capsule as a Router. url...I am trying to set this up for both Macs and PCs. I have set it up as described in the manual and can now find it on all machines in the house and can connect to it wirelessly. I an also plug it into a desktop and get the same issues. So its not a wireless issue. The issue is here. The computers can get email, POP i believe, but no internet.I cannot ping anywhere, and have tried browsing by names, and IPs to no avail. When I ping google.com it says could not find the url.... Ive also tried Telnet. I tried Telnetting the router IP on port 80 however could not figure out what the IP is. I was looking for the 192.168 etc.
my ea3500 has problems with youtube videos. When i click to start a video, sometimes it starts but after a very long buffering time (more than 8-10 seconds), sometimes it does-not at all some other time, the advertisement play but nothing happens after that (black screen). I have a fast internet access (30 MB up, 2 Mb down). I do not have this problem with the old router that the ea3500 is replacing ( a netgear wndr3700). On this old router al the videos are starting almost instantly.
I tried to lower the MTU of the 3500 from the default 1500 to 1400. No improvement. I tried to disable the WMM feature in QOS and by doing so i create another problem : i cannot access the 5 Ghz band anymore. I can see the SSID but cannot connect to it.
I now have a shared drive shortcut on my desktop from the external drive I have hooked to the EA4500. Is there a way to share this folder to Android phones or Ipads? Looking to backup my phone data to the share (photos)
I have a E3000 and just upgraded my Mac with the OS X Mountain Lion. I can't access my external HD anymore, although when I go to the router set up, on the storage tab, the router appears to recognize the HD.
I correct in understanding that when an external hd is connected to the e3000 via usb, that i can read and write to it, but i cannot delete files from the external drive? i have been trying to figure this out for a while and cannot delete files after i write them.
I have realized that E4200 V1 I have, with 1.03 firmware, seems to be dying when I reboot it and it tries to load the USB HD I have connected to it. By die I mean the web server does not work anymore (http://192.168.1.1), and new computers can't connect to the router. I suspect it is due to the amount of files I have in the External Disk Drive -I used to have Media Server enabled, but I disabled it because this problem was happening, and I only left File Server enabled. Now since I moved many of my pictures to it, it seems even File Server is causing problems, and if neither one work for me, then this router does not justify its money, since that was the only reason I bought this E4200 hardware. These problems are solved in V2? Since it is still under warranty, I could try to exchange my V1 for a V2 version.
I just bought a Linksys E4200 from bestbuy tonight, mostly for the feature of plugging my hard drive into it to use it as a media server, and being able to read & write to it from any computer on my network. I have searched for hours on end trying to fix my problem. I login to my router (at 192.168.1.1), I go to the storage tab, I then click the "Create Share" button next to my WD hard drive in the list and nothing happens. Ive tried this on four different computers, and three different browsers now to no avail.

a colleague at my university is using an Airport Time Capsule 1TB (Model A1355) to share files with his students wirelessly. The machines are running Leopard 10.5.8 and It works well but it will only allow 20 wireless clients at a time. All the client machines log in with a password. When you remove one of the 20, another can log in.
The tech specs on the Apple website just say that it accepts Wireless guest access and there is no mention of a 20 client limit. I looked right through Airport Utility and couldn't find where the number of wireless clients could be configured.Does anybody know if this is the hard limit for the number of wireless clients for an Airport Time Capsule 1TB (Model A1355)? If it is not a hard limit does anybody know how to change it?
I had an Iomega 1TB External Hard Drive connected to my E4200 router. I had shares confgured and they were properly running on the network.
As of yesterday, this all stopped working. The router does not see the drive; it is as though it is not plugged in.
I rebooted the router and it still does not work. I've connected the hard drive directly to my PC to verify that it works there, and it does. The router is running Ver.1.0.03 (Build 14) of firmware (the latest).
Briefly here is my setup Internet is supplied to my building by ISP(I have no router) => apple time capsule connected by Ethernet.I have used WIFI to connect all of my devices in the past with no problem until i moved into this place. I have 2 macbooks that can connect without any issues Every single other device in the house cannot connect and does not receive a proper IP Address. The ones being assigned are in the 169.xxxxxx range. Even if i plug my Imac (which cant connect) directly in from the wall via ethernet, it wont connect. The time capsule is setup as a bridge with DCHP set to run automatically. I have reset everything numerous times and restored the router to no avail.I called the ISP and they said it wasnt their problem. I was under the impression they werent assigning the IP Address correctly or something.
I have set up a home network with Time Capsule as the primary router. I would like to use my WRTG54GL to connect to the network via ethernet and extend it for wireless access at the opposite end of my house. I changed the settings to disable the DHCP server, I named the network the same as the Time Capsule and duplicated security mode and password. I can connect with my laptop, but it initially connects with full internet access, but after about 10 seconds, I can see Airport searching for a network. It reconnects, but for about 45 seconds I have no internet access and then access returns and works fine. On my iPad, however, although it shows I am connected to the network, there is no signal indicator at the top of the screen, and all connectivity seems to be through 3G -- not the network. I assume there is a setting on the Linksys that needs changing, but I can't figure out what it is.
I have a Time Capsule current generation, as my primary router connected to my ISP. I'm using a Linksys E4200 as my slave router connected to the Time Capsule via lan to lan. I noticed the TC Internet Connection TCP/IP via DHCP shows a Subnet Mask of 255.255.248.0 and the Surewest IP of 74.222.246.23
Is the 248 setting one I will need on the slave?
The TC IP Address is 10.0.1.1 the DHCP Beginning Address is 10.0.1.3 to allow for the slave to have 10.0.1.2.
The E4200 is set as follows on the routers setup page, Internet Section to Automatic DHCP, Network Section to IP 10.0.1.2 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 and DHCP is Disabled.
Both routers have a SSID set to the same name.
Are all these settings correct? I've noticed that a device iPhone or iPad etc has a different IP address assigned by the TC depending on which router it is actually connected. I've also noticed difficulty of a device on one router communicating with one on the other.
I have a Windows 7 lap top and an Iomega eGo external hard drive. When I plug the hard drive into my computer via a USB, it works fine, but when i plug the hard drive in to the wireless router, I can not access it, and I would like access the hard drive wirelessly
I'm currently in college, and do most things with my laptop, and I have wifi just about everywhere. It has a generous 500 GB of storage, but I'd like to store non-essential files on, an external hard drive. However, lugging around 3 TB of storage isn't exactly feasible, and with my experience with my current 1.5 TB portable drive, me running around everywhere with it bouncing in my bag is just going to abuse it until it stops functioning (which it has...)[URL]

The router is not showing my external hard drive in the usb settings. The Hard drive is a seagate 7200rpm 1.5tb. The hard drive works just fine when plugged into my computer. I have tried NTFS and EXFAT. My 2gb usb drive in FAT32 shows up just fine. The external has its own power supply. Is there anything I am missing that would cause it to not work?
There is a USB port on my DPC3827 gateway device, and I'm trying to figure out if/how I can share an external portable hard drive I've connected to it. It's formatted FAT32. There are no places in the admin pages to configure storage sharing options.
