Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Remote Web Access To Server Is Blocked
Dec 11, 2011
I'm setting up WHS 2011 for the first time. When attempting to set up Remote Web Access, WHS continues to recoginze my E4200 model information and router IP address but delivers the message 'Remote Web Access to Your Server is Blocked'. Cisco and MS say the router is compatible with WHS and that it should set up through the wizard but no luck following many attempts, including manual set up of DHCP Reservation and Single Port Forwarding on ports 80/443 (not sure I did this correctly).
I've taken the router back to default settings with the exception of enabling Remote Management under the Remote Management Access section of the Administration menu tab; tried again with the same result. What settings to change to make this work?
i've not seen anything that sugests this (also my E4200 is on order, pending delivery, so unable to look into it more), but is it possible to have a remote library with the E4200 media server? i currently have a server with alot of content on it, but it does not support uPnP/DLNA. would i be able to use the E4200 to connect to the server and access it via the E4200's media server?
I just purchased a Linksys e4200 router today along with a WD 2TB MyBook hard drive. My intent is to set these two up together so that i can share files on the hard drive with: Computers on my home network ( 1 Windows 7 desktop wired, 1 windows 7 laptop wifi, 1 XP netbook wifi)Computers remotely over the internetSmartphones (Android and Apple) on my home networkSmartphones (Android and Apple) remotely over the internet. My questions are: Set-up remote access for fileshare with smartphones? What is the easiest way to set-up and configure this?
I want to separate my house in three zones plus guest W LAN. One for my mother in law living upstairs, One Gega-net for my family and one for my own little company office. Additionally I want W LAN on three of the V LAN's in addition to one guest W LAN.
And I want remote access to my music on the family LAN and my documents on the office LAN.
Can I accomplish this with one (W LAN)router or do I need more equipment?
I saw it's possible to use an USB drive/stick with the builtin FTP server to allow file access.Would it also be possbile to have the router function as webserver for external access from USB ? Just simple web functionality needed, no php or MySQL.Don't want to be running an extra machine 24x7 just to serve some html code.
When I'm trying to access the Twonky setting page on http://192.168.1.1:9000/config I get: Access is restricted to MediaServer configuration! Is this normal or not?
I use to run Twonky media server on my iMac and I was very happy with it. Now I have purchased a Linksys Wifi Router E4200. Twonky server embedded works fine with all my devices except with my Samsung D8000 Led TV. In the Mac version I must identify manually the player (Samsung TV), if not mkv won't play. The question is: How can I select the device in the Linksys E4200? The config page is not available and displays "Access is restricted to mediaserver configuration" E4200 firm V. 1.0.03
I tried to remotely access my disk connected to the USB port of the EA4500 and it failed until I disabled the IPv4/IPv6 SPI Firewall options. Surely, the firewall should not block the router's own FTP server!
I have a problem with the e4200 router and a mybook 1 TB connected to it. The media server works fine but after a while i loose contact with the router and the server this means that the Cisco connect doesn't work, the 192.168.1.1 doesn't work and I can't find the disk via \. I do have internet connection via wifi as im using it now....why I loose connection to the router? The lease time is 24h and it can happen more than once in a day.
I have a Sony Vita , PS3, & Cisco ASA 5505 firewall. I can get remote play to work only if the PS3 is powered on. The ASA will kill any Wake-on LAN packet no matter what I do to try to allow it. Apparently it doesn't support directed broadcast.
I just picked up the E4200 to replace a router, I can remote desktop into a computer that is physically connected to this router, but cannot remote desktop into other computers on the network that are connected via another switch.
I have a simple question; Does the E4200 have a print server built into it? I have a usb printer that I want to attach to the router so multiple computers can print to it. The printer does not have ethernet or wireless. I will be upgrading the printer later but would like for it to work with all my computers at the moment.
i'm trying to find out whether my e4200 has the possibility to be a local DNS server and if so, how I can configure it. As it is right out of the box, i cant ping any of my local machines on DNS.
i would like E4200 to get a PD from DHCPv6 server, and E4200 could assign address in PD to PCs connected to it by SLAAC/DHCPv6.could current E4200 FW 1.0.3 support this?
I've been messing around with this for several weeks to no avail. I've never had a problem establishing a VPN connection within my LAN. I've tried several workarounds, learning things in the processs, but to no avail.I've set up a VPN connection with Windows 7. The RRAS server is at home and I'm attempting to access from school (or the internet anywhere).I have no problem establishing the VPN connection (that I can see). Port 1723 is forwarded for both UDP and TCP to a static LAN address (198.162.1.124) in the E4200. PPTP pass-through is enabled (as well as the other two options).I can't see anything on the server after connecting. I'm using a DDNS. It works just fine INSIDE the LAN; I've even mapped a network drive to "S:". Accessing ANYTHING outside of the LAN over a VPN, however, isn't working. [code]
Connecting E4200 media server (external hard drive connected to USB in router) to PS3.mapped External HD to media server folder. and enabled UPnP Media Server. after trying all options I can't see media server in PS3.
I have an HP LJ4050 plugged right into one of the open LAN ports on my E4200 with a CAT6 cable. Can this router work as a LAN print server? I can't pull up the IP on a browser window or ping it successfully. The 4050 doesn't have USB capability and I don't want to use the parallel port on my PC unless I have to.If possible, I'd like to have wireless computers on the network be able to print to it as well.
I have a WD USB with approx 70,000 songs on it. When I try and scan the Music, it gets approx halfway though the songs, then the Media Servers stops all communications. The only way I can get the Media Server to recover is to power cycle the E4200
The e4200 1.0.03 DHCP server appears to be quite buggy. After configuring a static IP / reservation for a client which already had a dynamic IP from the pool, the e4200 continued to offer this client its pool IP. However, the DHCP client listing in the e4200 showed the client having the static IP even though it was still being offered that pool address. This may sound like user error, but I can assure you, it is not. I have had a very frustrating experience with this product, and rather than fool with tech support again, I ran `tcpdump -e -s1600 -n -vvvv -i eth0 port bootpc or port bootps` to absolutely rule out a mistake on my part, bug in the DHCP client, etc. I found that the client was always offered that old IP, even thought the e4200 status display showed the "new" static one, after doing a DHCPDISCOVER without requesting a specific IP. This condition persists across e4200 reboots even after having the client release its lease!I finally was able to resolve this by forcing the client to request the static IP from the e4200.This is unquestionably a bug in the DHCP server, and additionally, the user interface does not show the real state of the underlying DHCP leases held by clients which have static addresses / reservations. Troubleshooting this condition is well beyond the abilities of the average user.
I have 2 machines using Windows 7 and a Xbox 360. If I use the router for streaming media. Am I able to see the hard drive through the main computer it is hooked up to? Say if I dl something and want to put it on the external drive for media server. Can I save it to drive even though it is hooked up to the router? Overall. What does E4200 media server advantage have over something like windows media player to stream or windows media center?
My old dLink DIR-655 router could serve as an NTP server for all the computers on my network. It would get the time from the dLink NTP time source and allow me to sync all the systems on my home network off the DIR-655.
I had to replace it with this new E4200 but don't see an option for it to act as a time source for my internal network.
Is there a way to get the E4200 to NOT provide itself as a dns server to the DHCP clients? I have the unit set up to provide two dns servers to the clients, but the 4200 always provides itself as a third and it uses my cable providers dns servers. I am using a dns based filtering service to prevent certain material from being accessed within my network as the first two resolvers. So long as both or one of the provided servers is working it doesn't fall back to the unfiltered third, but I would prefer to remove it entirely.
I just bought a Linksys E4200v2 router and updated the firmware to 2.0.26.124551. The DHCP server is turned on however, it won't issue any IP addresses. I have to set IP reservations for all of my devices in order for the router to give them an IP address. This includes my printer, xbox360 and 2 computers. I'm also having this problem with the wired and wireless lan.
I just bought an e4200. I was using a LinkSys WRT54GS running DD-WRT alternative firmware.
One feature that I really liked in DD-WRT was the ability to assign static IP leases from the DHCP server. I liked having all of my devices running with a predictable, known IP address on my network. I have a Home Theater PC, and various controller applications that run on iPhones, etc. - some pretty homebrewed. Configuring the firewalls, etc. was much easier with IP address based controls.
Is there a way to achieve the same within the e4200's stock firmware?
Attempting to configure Linksys e4200 router in WPA2 Enterprise mode. Got this setup fine when using the Linksys WRVS4400N (That is until it died on me, RIP circa 2 months ago). I’m getting nothing in the NPS logs, nothing when doing a PCAP at the radius server. It appears this router isn’t communicating to the NPS/Radius server.
how to get at the configuration interface for the "built-in" Twonky server on the E4200.Specifically, I'm trying to figure out how to get to the "clients.db" file and the area of the UI where I can configure the receiver settings. I'm getting the dreaded "unknown file format" message when streaming mp4 files to my Samsung BD-C6500 bluray player. Installing Twonky on my laptop and working with the problematic files has shown that the solution is a simple matter for BD-C6500 understand how the files are encoded.
I've rolled back my E4200 router to the old firmware 1.0.0.1, then set up a media server. It generally works (e.g. it streams pre-existing media files to other devices). I can copy to this external drive small (say, < 1 MB) files. The drive has enough free space. However, I cannot copy to this external drive large (e.g. 700 MB) files.
I have a 1TB drive attached to my E4200 that contains several videos sorted in a folder hierarchy, like this (these are just examples):
TV Shows Supernatural 01. Episode 1.mp4
[Code]....
As you can see, all of my videos are in a carefully constructed heirarchy. This works with my old media server (Rivet for Mac). On the E4200, however, all of these MP4 files are merged together. My Xbox shows folders like "Albums" and "By Date", but these don't really mean anything -- all of my videos are jumbled into these folders and there's no way I can find anything.
Here's how the media server is configured:
If I can't find a solution, than the media server feature of this router is absolutely useless to me.
