Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200v2 - Power Interruption
Aug 4, 2012
I have a new E4200v2 that I got from Amazon a few months ago and I haven't had any problems with it while it's up and running. My problem comes when the power to it is some how interrupted. When this happens, I can not connect to the internet. I can get to the router pages and the modem pages. I even changed out the the modem recently and the router still has the same problem.
I tried saving a working configuration file and restoring it after a fail, but that doesn't work. When I do a factory restore, I still can't connect until I use the stupid Cisco disk. In order to get back online I have to do a factory restore, use the Cisco setup disk, then reset my settings. All without removing power. My old router a WRT54GS v5 never had this problem. I need a router that works without having to set it up every time the power goes out.
Recieved this E4200 as a repplacement for a v1 that kept dropping wireless connection. Now after about 1.5 months the router keeps rebooting. Tried resetting, etc...no luck. Calling Cisco now.
this topic has been discussed under the v1 software and marked as solved yet it has not been. Has anyone attempted with version 2 software and been able to connect after the arp was flushed?
Just got my new E4200 v2 router. Set up mac filtering for one device and after saving the change the router was refreshing and disconnected all my devices and could not log in to the router wired or wirelessly and had to do a factory reset. Have the latest firmware. Is this a defect in the router?
I will soon upgrade my wireless network from a WRT610N to an E4200v2. At setup of the router, I assume I'll be able to change the SSID of the E4200v2 and I plan to keep the same SSID as on my old router. With the same SSID as currently seen by the devices on my network
I have a synology DS411 and a ATV2.DS411 is always downloading from internet, normally the download' bandwidth of DS411 is around 2MB/s.In my old netgear 3800,i just need to active WMM and add a port OQS that the port connection DS411 is low. Then when I watch stream video from internet on my ATV2.I can see the DS411's bandwidth will be reduced automatic.I replaced 3800 with E4200v2 some days before, and I have done the same config ,turn WMM ,set ATV MAC to highest and DS411 MAC to lowest. But when I watch ATV2,DS411's bandwidth seems not be reduced,so I cant get the smooth video Its very bad.
We have the Linksys E4200v2 router. We have two servers on our network that we want to access remotely (from outside). We have two Static IPs from our ISP. We currently utilize one of those IPs to access one of the servers-no problem. How can we utilize the second IP to access the second server?
I have a static IP on the ATA (Linksys PAP-2T) ...the router will only pick it up occasionally...most times it does not. The ATA is on and working (I can call in/out) but I can't see how the router can't find/see it. I have added the ATA to the DHCP reseve list but still nothing. I have the port fowarded for the ATA but when I go to canyouseeme.org it comes up as "Connection timed out"...becuase I think it can't see the ATA behind the Router.
On the D-Link it was easy, I can see who is connected to which radio. But I can't figure out how to see who is connected to WiFi on hte E4200?I run several access points in my house, and I need to make sure htey are all working. If I can't see who, if any, is connected, I have no idea if WiFi on the E4200 is working.
V2.0.26.124551 is now available. I did the online upgrade and it took just a couple of minutes including the reboot. The firmware is not available as a download yet for manual install. This firmware is dated 11/14/11 so it doesn't appear to correct the Port 53 issue reported earlier.Release Date: Nov 14, 2011 Firmware version: v2.0.26 (Build 124551) - Support for the WAN L2TP and PPTP protocols
My ISP dynamicly assigns IP's so I have my New E4200V2 set up as Automatic Configuration DHCP. I want to be ablt to use a specific DNS server rather than the one issues by my ISP.No matter what values are in the Static DNS 1, 2 and 3 the router continues to pull a DNS from my ISp. My POS old D-link 615 was able to utilize a custom DNS server with no issues so surely ther emyst be a way to do the same on the E4200.
E4200v2 DMZ does not appear to work correctly?I have two e4200v2 both with latest firmware and it appears to me that the DMZ setting does not work. I continue to have to apply many port forwarding and triggering rules to make needed ports accessible.
I am wondering what is the optimal way to set-up my E4200v2 and PLWK400 at home? I have several devices (laptops, tablets, phones) that connect on .11g and .11n.
My current set-up: E4200v2: 5ghz - Wireless-N only (SSID home-n), 2.4ghz - Wireless-B/G only (SSID home-g) PLWK400: SSID home-ext (separate part of the home)
I am using WPA2 Personal security if that makes a different. One question would it be "better" to have the same SSID for all 3 wireless settings (5ghz, 2.4ghz, and PLWK400)? Would the various devices know which frequency to switch to for best speed and range?
I tried to upgrade my router firmware to the latest 2.1.39.145204 (downloaded from cisco website) but seems like the upgrade didn't go well. I am unable to open the admin webpage. I can get to the login page on 192.168.1.1, after i enter the admin password the next page doesn't load. It keeps showing 'Waiting' at the center of the page forever.. I have tried to do the 30/30/30 reset to no avail, i tried to do tftp downgrade to older firmware version but the tftp boot doesn't even start. Is there any other way i can either fix the current firmware upgrade or downgrade it to the previous version?
Where can I download the 2.0.36 firmware?I flashed it through the UI but since the factiry fw is crap I want to try the third party firmware that are available but I want to make sure there is a path back to factory version in case I need to return the product.
I purchased an e4200v2 to replace my old WRT160n which I have been using for years with no issues. Last night the e4200 crashed on me when I went to reset the router I noticed the CISCO light was blinking very slowly and I had no network connection. I power cycled the router and still no connection so I hit factory reset button. Nothing happened. Did a 30/30/30 reset nothing happened. At this point I have a 34 day old plastic brick on my desk and I'm back to using my old WRT160N. how to unbrick this router?
No problem setting up the FTP server on the router. It's working perfectly from inside the LAN. But any attempt to access the built-in server from the WAN side is fruitless. I found that if I turn off the IP4 SPI on the router, I can suddenly connect to the built-in ftp server without issue from the Internet. If the SPI option is checked, its a no go.
Is this a bug? I can't imagine that it is intentionally set up such that you have to turn off the firewall in order to use the FTP function externally. At least it isn't mentioned anywhere I can find and it wouldn't seem logical.
New E4200v2 @ firmware 2.0.36. The FTP server will go offline about once every 24 hours. I can revive it by simply clicking on Save in Storage/Administration or FTP Server. I don't have to change anything, just click Save. How can I keep the FTP running?
"Disk" is a 16gb USB flash memory. Formated FAT32, 1 partition, 6 users besides Admin and Guest, 2 groups besides Admin and Guest.
I've had this E4200v2 for a while now, and it's been giving me a headache because even at default wireless setting with the passphrase, it literally won't ever connect from a linksys wireless adapter using the mixed WPA2 Personal or the 'EasyConnect' button feature or the PIN, with both side's fireware updated to the latest. There is no issue connecting to the router as long as the security is off. I've tried other form of encryption to no luck.
I recently changed my wirless router from the E4200 to the E4200v2. As far as I know, I have the same settings on the E4200v2 as I did on the E4200. My PS3 will not connect to my wireless network via the E4200v2. I even retyped in my network information (SSID and password) onto the PS3. Still "no joy." Any issue with the E4200v2 and the PS3?
I have a small issue with Remote Management on my E4200v2.I have enabled it , select https and set Allowed Remote IP Address to any on the default port ( 8080 ).After all of this, I cannot connect to my router from my office or any other place. I'm using DDNS and all its ok ( updated at time ). I've tried also connecting to my direct ip address ( dynamic ) but with no result.P.S. no incoming log from port 443 using https.
Decided to go with the e4200v2. 199.99 for a router 450 + 450 with a little extra features. very pricey but thought it would be worth it. I got it hooked up with no problems for the first 5 minutes. I have 35mbps down wired from the router and on the 2.4 and 5.0 ghz band about 25 feet from the router was getting just that!! no loss really. However after a few more speed test i noticed it was fluctuating very slow to fast. Also the 2.4ghz was only 144mbps. after getting in the router i changed the 2.4ghz to channel 6 and 5ghz to 153 and changed to 20mhz only on the 2.4 and 40mhz only on the 5.0ghz. Now all is doing well .
1. why am i not able to run the 2.4ghz on 40mhz? when set to auto i have a lot slower speed tests even know it is running on 20mhz only because I'm only getting 144mbps. I don't know why its not running 40mhz ? i don't know why i have to change it to 20mhz only why cant i leave it on auto and if i had a day with little interference it would switch to 40? when left on auto the speeds go down drastically
2. i notice that some channels are brutally slow on both bands. like 1.5mbps ? is this normal
3. is this even worth it if the 2.4 band is acting this way?
4. from insider i see that 5.0ghz only connects to two channels isn't suppose to be 3?
With other devices, including Cisco Aironet, I've saved a lot of time in the past by cloning the config from one WAP to another. This is for when I have to set up 2 or more WAP's on the same network, that share 98% of the same settings.I was wondering if anyone's ever tried to do this with Linksys devices, and in my case two E4200v2's in bridge-mode (WAP-only). Will it let you Restore a config that came from a different device? (same hardware version of course)Obviously I would change the hostname, devicename & IP address to make them unique. But the rest of the settings would basically stay the same.
I'm talking about E4200's that are being used as bridge-mode access points, and so typical router functions like DHCP server are disabled on both.
Have the E4200v2 router. Suddenly my wireless devices have slowed to a crawl. I mean slow. My Cisco Connect confirms that my wired download speed is 30-32 GB, but my two Android devices have slowed to ~500k. I might have changed something - just don't know. I know I'm desperate though.
Will Cisco be adding support for OpenDNS in the next firmware release? I have the e4200v2 and want to be able to specify times when I want the filtering to be off. After the kids go to bed. Netgear allows this with their nicely implemented OpenDNS in their routers. I am currently using OpenDNS with this router but don't like having to log in to remove the filtering and then adding it back on when I'm done surfing.
i just bought the E4200v2 and configured for my network. the router found the latest firmware and has been updated. i tried multiple configurations/channels etc with no change.basically, coverage is horrible, and even when in the same room as this router copying files from a linux server and a window7 machine is extremly slow.... almost as if its G speed. my mac is showing the transmit rate >108mbps and should be copying at 60,70 even 80 mbps (megabits), but im getting on average ~28mbps however, uploading from my mac to those 2 machines flys. im seeing speeds at 80 to 90 mbps, which is again, what i would expect.
I'm experiencing significant slowness with my E4200V2 that is resolved after a reboot. Here is a pre/post reboot ping:
C:Users eil>ping www.google.comPinging www.l.google.com [74.125.115.106] with 32 bytes of data:Reply from 74.125.115.106: bytes=32 time=1275ms TTL=52Reply from 74.125.115.106: bytes=32 time=994ms TTL=52Reply from 74.125.115.106: bytes=32
[Code]....
As you can see, the results indicate that the reboot fixes the issue, and the difference is significant and noticeable. I find that I need to reboot the router once every few days. My old router, a WRT54GL, was rock solid with the same ISP (I'm in an apartment and plug a LAN cable directly into the wall. What happens beyond that - I don't know. I think there's wireless involved somewhere, though.).
Clearly, rebooting the router resolves the issue. Since my old WRT54GL worked flawlessly, I suspect it's the router. Because the delay seems to happen between the router and the ISP, the possibilty remains that it's an issue on the ISP side. However, that seems unlikely given the stability I saw with the WRT54GL.
I have connected the USB drive. I can copy file to the drive, but I have not figured out how to set users or groups I see the Access part of the screen open then close before I can set permissions. I just started with this today, so I figure I am doing something wrong. Everyone can access the files now, but I want to control who can, how do I do this?
So now I have a good connection with my secondary router going to my acer a500 android tablet, my laptop, and panasonic viera tv. All is good thus far. However, I cannot connect my Samsun BD-C7900 Blu Ray. What is really wierd is that the 5 Ghz and 2.4 Ghz have two different names on my router (cause that is what the cisco support tech told me to do- give them separate names) but on the Samsung BD-C7900 - it shows that there are two signals coming in but with the same name! When i tried to connect i get an error message. Keep in mind my E4200 v2 is secondary router connected to fios actiontec.
I have a Linksys E4200v2 couple days ago. After set up everything seem be working fine, accept my iPhone 4s. I can do almost things on my iPhone, but when I tried streaming video or streaming music from apps on the phone it stared buffering.... play..... and.... stop.... almost every 30s which never happen with my old Linksys E1000. And It happen with my wife's phone too. Even my internet speed is not bad at all (Ping: 24 / Download 23Mbs / Upload 4Mbs). So I can guess that problem from the router. Then I swap the E4200v2 with the E1000, everything works fine (it just a litle bit slower when loading at begin).
