Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GL Specifications Shows That It Is Linux Based
Jul 7, 2011
I recently purchased a Cisco-Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router from Amazon. The specs indicate it's Linux based: [URL] I checked other sites, and found the same claim: [URL] and [URL],But, to my dismay, when I was configuring and viewing the logs of the device.

I'm just finished with the wizard of my WRT54GL and follow the instructions in my user's manual I enter in the Web-based Utility of the router but I was surprised when I see that the language is French?! Once I choose the language for the wizard - english, it was english but now the Web-based Utility is in French. For luck I know some French from the high school but I prefer to work with English. How to change the language of the Web-based Utility from French to English

Any spec on the range of this router. I bought it last night to replace my existing Linksys WRT300N and it appears it does not even come close to matching the WRT300N's signal range. In fact, the new E3000 barely covers 1/2 the area my 300N did.
Network mode: Mixed
Channel Width: Auto (20Mhz or 40Mhz)
Channels: Auto DFS
I have the E3000 in the middle basement (same location at 300N) and i barely get a signal 1 floor above and 25 feet away. In fact, I get no signal in my kitchen.

Region : Australia
Model : TL-MR3420
Hardware Version : V2
ISP : Telstra Bigpond
I have no access to the router ATM, but when I went to update, it was the latest version and build of the foirmware.I have read several reports of successful use of these two. I connect the MR 3420 to the PC, power it up. I connect BP3-EXT to the router and power it up. The MR 3420 router shows a very brief connect to the USB-based modem.: the USB light on the router stays on for about 2-3 seconds. The WLAN light on the router is on, showing a signal.
Running the setup has resulted in a couple of things. The Router's page shows that is knows the MODEM is attached to Telstra, in Australia. I do not get to put in #99# or my name and password. "Next" results in either a freeze of the Router's page "Connecting...." or I get to step through to "Congratulations, you have finished. Now connecting you to the Net"...with absolutely nothing happening on either the router or the modem. I am not sure how it thinks I am going to log in.If I do put in manual username and password, it freezes when I try to go Next.I _think_ that if the router page is frozen, it responds better if I pull the modem out of the router's USB socket. The modem works fine if plugged straight into the computer.I do remember I had a lot of trouble using a different brand of 3g router a couple of years back. Unfortunately, after I got it working, the router died.

I'm a Linux user and just got a new Linksys E2000 router. I attached the router to the computer with the Ethernet cable, and switched the router on, expecting it to work as DHCP server by default, so I could access routers configuration and set it up as needed. This however failed right away. Obviously the router didn't start DHCP, even after I reset with the reset button on the back. Now there is no way to accesss the router to configure it, since web interface path relies on router's DHCP function to access it through 192.168.1.1 which is not working. What can be done to enable it?

I set up my new Linksys E3200 via hardwired Win XP box on small home network that uses a dsl line. I attached a Seagate Expansion 2TB usb hd to the router. All is well. After rebooting into Debian Linux via dual boot setup, I have a working internet connection but am unable to find the attached usb hard drive. What can I do to make it visible to this and other, linux systems?

I just got a new E4200 v2 wireless router. I'm intrigued by the USB port, especially for using it to connect a printer. I currently have a D-Link wireless print server that I'm using to create a network-attached printer, but if I could remove an extra device and just have the printer connected straight to the router

When I try to connect OpenVPN through an E4200 v2 router from my Linux Fedora 16 client, the connection hangs. The connection log show that OpenVPN has connected to the VPN server. Internet also freezes until I disconnect OpenVPN.
OpenVPN on Windows works fine through the E4200 router. If I connect the Linux client directly to my Inteno fiber router, OpenVPN works fine.Passthrough is enabled in the router, and I have configured QoS and port forwarding for port 1194. The router has firmware version 2.0.37.

I noticed a bug with the EA4500 (could possibly be all EA series) router that linux machines cannot see network share with the smart firmware. Just right after I upgrade to the smart firmware, all my linux machines cannot see any network shares at all. I downgrade to the classic firmware, every thing works like a charm.

I've got threeLinux Boxes (running Centos 6). They were all connected to my cheap WRT54GL-- DHCP worked every time.Absolutely no problems. Both the LInux boxes and the WRT54GL had MTU set to manual, 1492.I replaced the WRTt54GL with the expensive E4200. I set the new router's MTU to manual, 1492. NONE of my Linux boxes ever receive a DHCP address. I look at the logs, and they do DHCPDISCOVER, get DHCPNACK, try several different intervals, and then fail the interface and quit.ALL I did was unhook cables from the WRT54GL and plug into the E4200. Yes, the WRT54GL was powered off. NOTHING was changed in the Linux configs. Yes, DHCP is enabled, address-range assigned, etc. BTW-- one box is dual boot with Win7-- in Win7 (using the same card, obviously), DHCP works just fine. But, Linux doesn't work.
I can give the boxes static IP's, and all is well. Just can't get DHCP to work. I evfen tried putting in DHCP reservations (via MAC assignments) for the E4200-- still doesn't work. The new E4200 is on the 02 firmware (which I believe is cuurent). If I can't iron this simple task out, in a couple of days I'm taking the E4200 back, and getting a refund. I'll stay with my old WRT54GL... it works. Hate to give up on some of the new E4200 features, though.

I have a Cisco/Linksys E2500 router. I connected to it through one of the Ethernet ports with a Microsoft Windows XP Pro machine and installed and ran the setup software. Windows was able to connect to the router and to the internet through the Siemens Gigaset 4300 DSL modem to my internet provider, Windstream.I cannot get my Dell GX620 which is running Linux Debian 6 (Squeeze) to connect to the router through the Ethernet ports. It appears that I receive no reply to the DHCP requests made by Linux.
I have only one monitor, keyboard and mouse and no KVM switch to run both the machines at once. I do have Windows XP Pro running in a VirtualBox virtual machine on the Debian machine,I can configure Debian to a static IP if I knew all of the IP configuration that the E2500 would assign. I would also need to know what reconfiguration the router requires if I use a static IP.

I have both a Sony XBR52HX909 and a Sony BDP-S580 connected to my router (WRT54GL)via ethernet. When I try to connect to the internet, both show the wired connection as good but neither can connect to the internet. The BDP-S580 also has wireless connectivity, but it can’t connect to the internet wirelessly. I have two desktop computers connected via ethernet and two laptops connected wirelessly to the same router and all have internet connectivity. I have tried the “auto” settings on the TV and Blu-Ray player and also tried entering the network information in manually. I still can’t connect to the internet.

I'm trying to use a WRT54GL with U-Verse. The problem is that the router does not get a connection to the modem. It can't ping the modem, and it doesn't show up on on the list of devices connected to the modem. DHCP assigns an IP address of 127.0.0.1, which is outside the range of the modem [192.168.1.1 ... 192.168.1.253]. The router is also showing a default gateway of 0.0.0.0, and a subnet mask of 255.0.0.0. (And yes, I have released and renewed the lease, rebooted the modem, and reconnected the modem.) The router WAN side is set to DHCP, and the operating mode was changed from gateway to router (the gateway setting doesn't work either, for that matter).

I currently own a LinkSys-WRT54GL 802.11a/b/g wireless router, and my ISP is Comcast Cable providing me with 15 Mbps (that's bits per second, I believe) download speed. I am wondering if there is any benefit with using an 802.11n wireless router to access the Internet? The maximum theoretical speed of the WRT54GL router is 54 Mbps (802.11g), which is faster than the 15 Mbps provided by my ISP.
I know that 802.11n has a max bandwidth of 300 Mbps, and it would work for intra- house transfers, such as streaming video from one computer to another.
But is there any benefit to 802.11n for Internet activity, such as web browsing, gaming, and streaming video from Netflix.

I had configured the AAA server on CoovaAP and was able to access the internet.I had configured the user name and password as a "testuser" and "password" respectively. With that user id i used to access the Coova AP router and internet. Now i want restore the WRT54GL firmware on Lynksys router. But with the used id and password which i had configured the router is not at all accessible. So i did 30-30-30 reset on the router 2-3 times. Now i can see openwrt login page with 192.168.1.1 IP address. It is asking for user id and password. I tried all the combinations of user id and password, but no luck. I browsed some link on the internet and some people have recommended that default user id as a "root" and blank password. But with that also the router is not accessible. I cant to do much on the router untill i will log in to router. I have spent lot of time on this. How to restore back the original WRAT54GL firmware on my router. Anyhow i want WRAT54GL firmware on Lynksys router

I recently had to unplug my Linksys WRT54GL wireless router when doing some rearranging and now i'm unable to get a internet connection. I've confirmed the modem is actually working by connecting my laptop directly (which worked), but when I connect the Linksys WRT54GL wireless router to my modem the internet connection goes away. The connection is lost when connected via wireless and hardwired to one of the back ports. I've tried resetting the modem, router and computer and read every forum out there trying to find something, but i'm still stuck.

We have received from a customer of us an WRT54GL box configured with a Coova software. This Wifi router was supposed to be a Wifi hotspot, but was not configured by us. This box is able, on startup, to get an IP by DHCP, to touch a remote Radius server, and so on (we "tcpdump" the Internet traffic, and we saw DNS requests, radius requests, ...)...
But, we are unable to connect to this box,by SSH or by HTTP, either by plug-in PC to the Internet RJ45 or the LAN RJ45. It has no IP as 192.168.1.1. Instead, it was configured to have 192.168.1.1 as gateway.
Of course, we have no doc on previous install, but only the admin/root password for SSH.We are afraid to lose the config (coova, ...) if we perform a hard reset. What is the best way for connecting on this box ?

Why this router have DHCP server and Port forwarding features and many LAN ports, but does not have DHCP reserve feature? If I can plug many computers, each one get own IP address, but how I can't fix it? I need to port forwarding of course, but if lease time ended, next time my computer got other IP address, so I need to reconfigure port forwarding each time! Of course I can do it, but try to explain it for your wife? Yes, I can use static IP addresses, but for what this box have DHCP server?

I accidentally pressed the front panel button labeled "Cisco Systems" on my WRT54GL wireless router. The button turned to a flashing white which I understand means that it entered SecureEasySetup mode. I then power cycled the router and the front panel button turned back to solid orange. However, now the "WLAN" lamp flashes a lot more often than before even when there are no wireless clients connected. It doesn't seem to be affecting connectivity or performance of my Ethernet connected devices or wireless connected devices. I re-entered my SSID and security key. That didn't curtail the increased flashing of the WLAN lamp. I also tried pressing the front panel button for 5 seconds. This only cleared my wireless settings.
