Linksys Router / Desktop Finds Connection But Can't Connect To Network

May 11, 2011

Our Comcast broadband goes to our modem then our router (Linksys) before splitting off to our desktop & our Ooma unit. I run our netbook off of the wireless but the desktop & Ooma are physically connected to two of the router's ports. This afternoon I lost the ability to connect to the internet with the desktop. Ooma works and so does my netbook. The computer finds the connection and says it's working fine when I try to diagnose the problem, but none of my browsers (Chrome, Firefox or IE) are able to connect to the network. Thunderbird and gmail notifier also can not connect.Using command prompt I can successfully ping any website I try.I have tried everything I could think of:

Powered down and restarted PCU
New network card
Disabled Norton
New cord from router to network card
Switched connection so it was directly from modem to PCU
Reinstalled browsers

I don't know what else I can try. The computer is not allowing me to run a system restore. It says that the disk is damaged and must be repaired. But it will not allow me to repair it because the disk is running? It seems to me that there is a setting or security issue that is blocking my access to the network?

Laptop Finds Network But Can't Connect?

Apr 4, 2011

I have a home wireless (4G) network using a Belkin router. My laptop has a Belkin USB Wireless Adapter which is correctly installed, and soon finds the network, - signal strength "excellent". However, I can't establish a connection with the message "acquiring network address" being shown.I suspect that this is because I have forgotten the correct encryption key for the secure network and have been inputting the wrong key.Is there a way of finding the correct encryption key? Or maybe I have the correct key and am doing something else that's stupid.

Laptop Finds Wireless Network But Is Unable To Connect

Nov 28, 2011

I stumbled upon a problem which i cannot resolve, the situation is as folows:

A router (Netgear wgt624v3) is connected to the internet. My smartphone and every other wireless device I tested is able to connect to it but not my laptop. My laptop is able to connect to any other wireless network. I can however get acces to the web using an ethernet cable plugged into the router.

I already installed the newest driver for my wireless network card (Atheros AR5B93 Wireless Network Adapter) and I already upgraded the router to the newest firmware. I also disabled every security including the built in firewall. The strangest thing is that I can actually find the SSID of the network, I just cannot connect to it.

FYI: I use windows 7 64bit, laptop type is Packard Bell LM86

Linksys WRT300N - Desktop Won't Connect To Network / Refuses To Authenticate

May 21, 2012

I just replaced my router (Linksys WRT300N) that decided to take a dirt nap. I hooked up my son's Netgear router that he used to use for gaming, and got every wireless device in the house going pretty quickly - every one, that is, except my desktop PC (Windows XP Pro SP2). It detects my home network, but when I enter the network key (passphrase), it chugs along for a minute or so and quits, refusing to authenticate, acquire the IP, and finish connecting. That wasn't a problem before with my previous router. The desktop has a D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G510 PCI Adapter card. What's the likelihood that my card went bad at the same time as my router? The card is 5-6 years old I think.

Linksys Wired Router :: RV082 / Remote Desktop Into Network Won't Work

Aug 8, 2012

First time VPN newbie. I need to set up vpn for a friends small business using RV082 so, as a test, I set it up here at my home using a very basic config. The network topology looks like:

cloud => cable modem => RV082 => DIR655 => win7 PC

At a remote site, I fire up QUICKVPN, enter necessary data and successfully connect. Bring up Remote Desktop and put in the IP of my home pc and the logon username and, after a minute or two, it says "unable to connect to the computer" (or words to that effect). My home PC has been configured to allow remote desktop connections and this has occured in the past but not since the RV082 installation. There is nothing in the PC's logs nor in the RV082's logs.

Desktop Unable To Connect Using Wired Connection

Aug 10, 2012

I'm a college student residing in the dorms a I did last year and over the summer. In both cases i had to move to different housing and internet connection went without a hitch. However i'm now at my new place, and i cant seem to get my desktop computer to connect to the internet. After 8 different campus tech crews came through, they've determined that the connection issue is not caused on their end. The issue as far as i can tell is not caused by the cable either because i got internet access when i bridged the connection using my laptop's wireless connection. I have also used the cable to connect to the internet on my laptop. However, when i try to connect on my desktop it says that that ethernet cable is not connected. No link light comes on, and the connection is not recognized at all.

IBM Desktop / Network Connection Dropped Several Times A Day

May 20, 2011

The computer in question is one of 30 computers in the same office that is not currently experiencing this same thing. All connected though the same switch, patch panel, etc. Testing has proven that the switch and line is fine.We have a server set up for all of the multifunction printers on property and we simply map the printers through this unit.We have an exchange server for email.File server... for... files. Okay, here is the situation. This IBM desktop will be connected to everything, able to print, email, connect to files, etc etc. Then, or so it seem, will just lose its connection. no email printing etc. She is asked to put in her network credentials again. and usually this works. (it seems that the network dropping out may take up to 3 minuets to fully restore and she tries to put in her credentials too soon). After each event she is able to restart her computer or type in her credentials and get back to work.. after mapping the printer again.

Desktop Can't Connect To Wireless Network At All?

Mar 10, 2012

Or some reason my desktop can't connect to my wireless network at all. Every other device in the house will connect just fine but this desktop either won't connect or will only connect with a very slow, intermittent speed. I don't know how I would be able to post an IP Config because I'm having to post this on an iPad. I've tried just about everything.

I've Tried: Power cycling the system Power cycling the router Disabling the wireless adapter and re-enabling it Running a diagnose and repair Telling my system to forget the network Going between static and dynamic IP addresses

Connecting through wires isn't an option because my desktop is too far away from the nearest wired connection.don dry recently reset the router to stock settings and reset the security so that could be related. I haven't had time for a firmware update though or messing with the firewall.

Desktop Failing To Connect To Home Network?

Aug 4, 2012

I recently moved into a new apartment, where our internet connection is shared with neighbors who are currently out of town on vacation. Most of my devices (Phone, Laptop, Girlfriend's laptop etc) will connect just fine to the passworded network we are meant to be on. My desktop however will not. It doesn't even see that it's an available wireless network.

This same computer was seeing/connecting to wireless networks as recently as this morning. It was also seeing another network for a little while with medium signal strength, which it now doesn't see either.

So far, I've restarted a couple of times, done the 'troubleshoot/repair' options on my wireless network icon, and verified that my wireless adapter is indeed on. I've also asked it to update drivers, but despite having no internet connection, it tells me it has the most current versions.

Normally, I would just reset the router as a first step, however because it's in my neighbors house, I don't have that option, however as I mentioned, this likely wouldn't make a difference, since several other devices, including the laptop I'm posting from now, are quite able to recognize and connect to the network in question.
