View 1 RepliesI'm a college student residing in the dorms a I did last year and over the summer. In both cases i had to move to different housing and internet connection went without a hitch. However i'm now at my new place, and i cant seem to get my desktop computer to connect to the internet. After 8 different campus tech crews came through, they've determined that the connection issue is not caused on their end. The issue as far as i can tell is not caused by the cable either because i got internet access when i bridged the connection using my laptop's wireless connection. I have also used the cable to connect to the internet on my laptop. However, when i try to connect on my desktop it says that that ethernet cable is not connected. No link light comes on, and the connection is not recognized at all.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi got a Dir-655 router and Dell 1501 wireless -N mini PCI card (802.11 bgn compliant). Router was set to mix mode but my desktop Dell XP8300 can connect only till G mode.
1) I search on web and some said that i need to set my router to N mode only for my desktop to connect to N mode. IS THIS SOLUTION CORRECT??
2) Another issue was my sis got other old brand latop which can only connect to B mode, if i set to N mode only, she won't be able to connect it right?
Our Comcast broadband goes to our modem then our router (Linksys) before splitting off to our desktop & our Ooma unit. I run our netbook off of the wireless but the desktop & Ooma are physically connected to two of the router's ports. This afternoon I lost the ability to connect to the internet with the desktop. Ooma works and so does my netbook. The computer finds the connection and says it's working fine when I try to diagnose the problem, but none of my browsers (Chrome, Firefox or IE) are able to connect to the network. Thunderbird and gmail notifier also can not connect.Using command prompt I can successfully ping any website I try.I have tried everything I could think of:
Powered down and restarted PCU
New network card
Disabled Norton
New cord from router to network card
Switched connection so it was directly from modem to PCU
Reinstalled browsers
I don't know what else I can try. The computer is not allowing me to run a system restore. It says that the disk is damaged and must be repaired. But it will not allow me to repair it because the disk is running? It seems to me that there is a setting or security issue that is blocking my access to the network?
On wireless (lenovo tabletx61) I cannot connect through the intranet - no problem connecting through internet. When I manage to connect through intranet connection is dropped quite often. No problem connecting via Ethernet cables.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently got a (new) Dell Inspiron 570 desktop. It didn't come with a wireless adapter, so I picked up a (new) TP-Link TL-WN781ND Wireless N PCIe adapter. Easy installation, worked immediately. Connection's not perfect, but I get 3 bars from across a house so it's about what I expected.Unfortunately, every little bit the connection drops. Sometimes it comes back within seconds, sometimes it lasts for several minutes; sometimes I won't notice it happening for hours, sometimes it drops every few seconds. There are two other computers on the network that don't suffer connection issues, and I've been able to test with my iPod that it's still connected at the same moment as my Dell is not.I tried updating the driver automatically, which oddly enough installed the driver for an Atheros AR9285, a different wireless adapter; and although everything seemed to still be working I gave it long enough to make sure the problem was still there and downloaded the correct driver from TP-Link's site, which didn't fix it either.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just changed service provider and got a new Technicolor TG582n router. The wireless connection with my laptop is simple and straightforward, but it doesn't do the same with my desktop. After acquiring network address for a while, it did connect but with limited or no connectivity. My desktop connected to a Belkin54g before.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've just had a custom computer built and I seem to have a problem with my wireless internet connection. I have a Realtek 8185 extensible 802.11b/g wireless adapter. My computer recognizes my house's network and is connected to the internet with a good connection, but when I open up my web browser it takes a very long time for the page to load and sometimes never does. The laptop I'm on right now is connected to the same internet and it is running just fine. I've uninstalled the device and rebooted to have the driver reinstalled but the problem still occurs.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a bit of a weird situation here as soon as I switch on my desktop pc my wireless connection is lost. This is only the desktop pc, I aso have a HTPC on wire, this one doesn't have any problems. If my wireless fails, my wired clients can still go on the internet. (see for detail the drawing at the bottom of this post).
The other weird thing is as soon as I set my wireless to WPA-TKIP there are no problems, but my wireless is set to WPA-AES due to the wireless N standard.
I also noticed as soon as my wireless drops out the router starts changing channels.
Part of my network is DHCP (in the range of 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.199) the other part has fixed adresses (192.168.0.251, 192.168.0.253, 192.168.0.254)
What i've tried thusfar
- other firmware
- replaced cables
- rebooting/restarting router
- setting up from factory defaults
I just brought home an older desktop and my wireless connection seems to disconnect about every 30 seconds to a minute, then reconnects.
The only other devices that we are using wirelessly are our phones, which we never notice a problem with. When it is connected, the signal stength is excellent. It just keeps dropping. Speed 72.0 mbps.
I am using a Linksys E-1200 wireless N router, and a Belkin N150 USB adapter.

I recently bought this modem for use at home. When I try to log in to my computer at work I am able to log in to the server via a VPN connection but not onto individual computers via Remote Desktop Connection. Both computers run windows 7.
I can't connect to my wireless network. It has been working fine for the past 8 months, now the past few days the networks shows up but when I try to connect it says cannot connect then when I run the fix it it says problem with wireless adaptor or access point. I can connect fine on my laptop and iphone, but not on my desktop.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got a modem installed and was planning on using ethernet cables for my desktop as well as laptop. The laptop works fine (as I'm using it). The desktop on the other had a wireless adapter installed. I tried using the cable with the desktop and it would'nt pick up the connection. I took the wireless adapter out of the desktop and still nothing. I tried creating a new connection but it would only allow me to make a dial up connection. Not sure what to do.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOr some reason my desktop can't connect to my wireless network at all. Every other device in the house will connect just fine but this desktop either won't connect or will only connect with a very slow, intermittent speed. I don't know how I would be able to post an IP Config because I'm having to post this on an iPad. I've tried just about everything.
I've Tried: Power cycling the system Power cycling the router Disabling the wireless adapter and re-enabling it Running a diagnose and repair Telling my system to forget the network Going between static and dynamic IP addresses
Connecting through wires isn't an option because my desktop is too far away from the nearest wired connection.don dry recently reset the router to stock settings and reset the security so that could be related. I haven't had time for a firmware update though or messing with the firewall.

I recently shut my computer down overnight, something I never do. When I booted it up the next day I had no internet connection. My computer is a desktop that's hard wired to a router and the modem. My son has a computer and an Xbox, both attached wirelessly to the router. Both of his computers are working mine is not. I keep getting a message saying "network is unidentified", but it won't let me pull up any networks. Its telling me there are no networks in my area. I have tried recycling both the router and modem numerous times, I even tried restoring my system to a date from last wk.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm building a desktop PC from scratch, and since up until now I've always taken this for granted with a laptop, I'm a bit confused what it is I need to connect to the internet. First of all, I live in a student residence, so up until now I was able to just use an ethernet cable, connecting the wall to my laptop to gain access to the internet service I'm paying for, an I was also able to connect to wireless networks. So my question is what do I need to buy to get the same connectivity?Do I need to buy a network card, so that I will be able to connect from the wall to my computer and gain access to the internet (not wireless), or do motherboards have that capability already these days? This is the motherboard I'm buying, and if I buy a network card, this is probably the one I'm going with. Or should I go with one that has the IEEE 802.1p, as well?
And then for the gaining access to wireless networks part. Do I just buy a router and that's it? For example, would buying just this router enable me to connect to wireless networks? Or can I just buy this PCI adapter?Would it also be possible to go from the wall directly to the router, then to the computer gain access to both the non-wireless and wireless networks?
I just picked up the E4200 to replace a router, I can remote desktop into a computer that is physically connected to this router, but cannot remote desktop into other computers on the network that are connected via another switch.

We have a Cisco wireless rounter and internet provided thru a time warner cable modem. My son just moved back in with us and we can not figure out how to get his Acer Aspire AX1300 desktop to commect to our internet. When we do network search it pulls up our internet no problem. When we hit the connect button it comes up with a box with 2 options 1. add add'l information or 2. connect to another network.when we click the conect and add addl info it comes up with another box wanting us to list username, password and logon domain. We have tried adding our passcode and network id, but it does not work. He also has an Acer laptop, all he did was turn it on and search for the network then put in the key and password and it was connected. I believe both the CPU and the laptop are using windows vista. How to get his laptop connected to our network and have internet access?
