I have a new computer who is situated on the first floor of the house. The router is in the basement. I'm able to have a great signal with my laptop but with my desktop computer I only have 2 bars out of 5 and the pages take forever to load. It surprised me because I choose this router because he was supposed to minimise interference (dual-band). I also noted that the signal was varying a lot from 11 to 65 mbps. I use an ASUS PCIe N network wireless card for my desktop.
I am using the E2500 with the Wireless N-pci adapter with dual band, both with the latest drivers / firmware, and I am getting extremely low signal quality and connection speed when connecting to the 5 Ghz network.My computer is no more than 15 feet away from the router, and on the same level. I also verified the connection with the 2.4 Ghz band, and it reads as excellent, and with 54 mps. Using 5 Ghz I get one bar of signal quality (very poor) and no more than 13 mps connection speed.
I just bought and set up an E2500 wireless router this evening. Using the default settings (as applied by the Cisco setup CD), I was experiencing pitiful range, with signal dropping to 2 out of 4 bars just one room (about 20 feet away). (Previously, using the exact same physical setup with the same computer and a single-band Belkin n150 router, I always had 4 out of 4 bars in that room).
I entered an online live tech chat, and after some back and forth, the tech rep had me change the settings as follows: (1) Rename the SSID to separate the two bands: One network SSID for the 5GHz band, another for the 2.4GHz. (2) Turn off auto-channel for both networks: Set 5GHz to stay on channel 36. Set 2.4GHz to stay on channel 1. (3) The 5GHz is set to use 20/40 MHz width, while the 2.4GHz is set to use only 20MHz width, but I believe those were the defaults already in place.
Then he promptly ended the chat, so we didn't get to finish. Nonetheless, with these settings in place, I am now getting a steady, uninterrupted 4 bars in the next room, using the 5GHz network SSID. Because we were disconnected, I have a few questions remaining:
(1) Is it normal to get such terrible range using the default settings (that's make for a lot of unhappy customers and a lot of extra calls to tech support)? Or does this indicate a problem with my router? (This was a Cisco certified refurbished model) (2) Which change 'fixed' the problem: Was it separating the two bands into different SSIDs, or locking the channels rather than using Auto channel? (3) Was this just intended as a test to troubleshoot the problem, or am I supposed to leave the router configured this way? (Since we were disconnected, I didn't get to follow up with the tech rep after changing the settings.) With it configured this way, I'm connecting devices that can find the 5GHz network to the 5GHz network's SSID, and the other devices that can't find it, I'm connecting to the separate SSID for the 2.4GHz network. Seems unnecessarily messy to have 2 SSIDs.
I upgraded my WRT54N to an E2500 in November 2011 and I am now having problems with a slow signal that oscillates according to Speedtest.net. Results with the router are a ping of 300-500 ms and a wide variability on download speeds in a single test of 0.5 Mbps to 3 Mbps. When I bypass the router my results improve to a ping of about 65 ms and a constant download speed of about 4.25 Mbps which is the extent of what my ISP can offer due to my rural location. My network has two desktops (one Mac, one PC), an occasional MacBook Air, an occasional PS3 connection (though the variable signal has rendered the PS3 useless for online play), and my iPhone when I'm home.
So far, I have reset the router and ensured the latest firmware is installed. I also relocated the router to another section of the house, thinking it may be experiencing interference. Interestingly enough, I can unplug the router for 10 seconds, reboot it and it works great for about 30 seconds or long enough to run Speedtest a couple of times. Then it returns to the same slow, oscillating pattern.
I just upgraded from a WRTG 54 version 2 wireless router to the Linsksys E2500. The reason for the change is to send a stronger wireless signal strength further in my house. Setup was easy to my laptop and XBox 360 but my Samsung Internet TV is another story. I can get my tv to get the wireless signal but when I click on an app nothing but error messages. Often times it will say to check my dns settings but I am not that tech savvy and don't know what to do.
Just got an E2500 and installed it with no problems and it was working correctly for 1-2 days. This evening the signal strength of my SSID dropped to LOW and a new SSID now shows up with full signal strength. It s not an SSID from any of my neighbors and from checking several forums it appears this is known problem.
Can I use a Linksys WRT54G router to get a signal for my desktop? I am using a modem that has wifi downstairs and want to get a signal for a desktop I have in the kids room upstairs
Im having problems with setting up my cisco WAP4410N as a repeater to extend the signal of cisco E2500.It works fine when there is no password to be set on both devices. But when either one of these devices had beenset a password on it, then WAP4410N failed to extend the signal of E2500.
I tried steps as below:
1. Same password type in WAP4410N and E2500.
2. Different password type in WAP4410N and E2500.
3. Set password in WAP4410N ONLY.
4. Set password in E2500 ONLY.
All steps above makes WAP4410N fail to extend the signal range of E2500. WAP4410N successfully works as a repeater to extend the signal of E2500 when there is no password to be set on both devices.
I have an HP Pavilion running Windows 7 that was working fine for about a year on a wireless router at home. I have 2 laptops and a Mac that are all running fine and can recognize the wireless signal but for some reason, the desktop PC suddenly won't recognize the wireless. I have tried a system restore, no good. I have tried to load a different Intel wireless network adapter and downloaded a driver from the laptop I have that is connected, but still no dice. I thought it was a radio hardware switch that accidently got turned off, but I can't find anything on the keyboard or tower that looks like it would turn it back on. Running out of leads.
I have a LAN port cable, and I have one end connected to the back of my router.Where does the other end go, so I can receive wireless internet connection of both my Toshiba Satellite Laptop, and Gateway Desktop. First I had the LAN port cable connected at the back of my router, and the other end was connected at the back of my desktop. A little green light lit up at the back of my desktop, saying that it was grabbing signal. I could use the internet fine, and my laptop could grab wireless signal fine as well. I was missing around my router, trying to see what mark it was, and the LAN port cable came off, and when I plugged it back in, i couldn't receive signal, and neither could my laptop. Now the only way I can grab signal is by connecting the WAN port cable from my modem to my desktop, which means I cant get wireless signal on my laptop. Now when I do connect my LAN port cable to the back of my desktop, I try connecting to my wireless connection, and when I go to Network and Sharing Center, it says Connected (With full bars).
I'm currently setting the MAC address filtering for my Linksys E2500 router. I have about 20 devices which i'm allowing to access my router, so i keyed in the MAC addresses into the config page and save setting. But only 16 addresses are registered, the rest refused to register no matter how many times i key in, it just reset back to 00:00:00:00:00:00 after i click on save setting.
I previously entered in settings for the "Static DNS" 1 through 3 (using ip addresses from OpenDNS and one from Google DNS). I want to remove these so the router reverts to using the DNS allocated to it by the ADSL modem (which will likely be the IP of the modem, which then forwards the requests to the DNS from the ISP).But I can't clear the Static DNS settings. I have to put in 0.0.0.0 but the last zero is not accessed. I get the error: The value is out of range [1 - 254].So I end up with 0.0.0.1 and then all Internet access is lost on the computers because they are being given a bad DNS IP.
How can I reset the static DNS ip address back to 0.0.0.0 ?
A couple days ago, our Linksys E2500 router accidentally got unplugged. Since then, the internet has been working extremely poorly (a lot of latency issues plus random disconnects), so yesterday we tried soft resetting the router. This backfired immensely as now the network no longer exists and we can't access either the router or the internet through the router.If we have an ethernet cable go from the modem directly into a computer, the internet works fine (which is how I'm posting). But if we hook the modem up to the router and then another cable from the router into a computer, we get nothing. We can't even see the router.We've tried unplugging the modem and router and then plugging them back in, unplugging just the modem, and unplugging just the router to try to get it back working but that didn't work. We then tried holding down the reset button on the bottom of the router for fifteen seconds then unplugging the modem and router, holding down the reset button with the modem already disconnected then unplugging the router and plugging the modem back in then the router, and holding down the reset button with the modem already disconnected then plugging the router back in then the modem. And then we tried each of these things while waiting a minute before plugging everything back in. Nothing's worked. And everything we've googled to find out how to hard reset the router either says to do something I've already listed or requires using the router's configuration page, which we can't access (supposed to be 192.168.1.1, but nothing comes up when I enter that into my browser since we can't connect to the router).
I have have tried days of online researching and even calling Linksys (CISCO) about the problem I am about to describe.
When I am connected directly to my modem I am able to get around 24 Mbps. Now when I connect to my Linksys E2500 I am only able to get around 10 Mbps. I am really confused by this and I have not seen a solution anywhere for this.
I have a roommate who takes up a lot of bandwidth from the internet. I am allowing him to use my router which is a Linksys E2500. Is there anyway to limit how much bandwidth he can actually use.

I've updated through microsoft updates, and updated some drivers from the hp website. Ive repaired, and tried restarting the router, and even the modem and nothing changed. It's still connected, but the interenet still is not working. The modem is fine, as when I disable the wireless connection, the internet works. Yes, I have Sp3 installed.I am using windows xp and the computer is called HP Pavilion a1013w Desktop PC. [code]
We use our internet to watch Netflix. We have had no problems until recently, I called the satellite Internet company(which is a local co.) they told me my router was going out. I bought a new one, problem solved, my husband told me my neighbor just got Internet and has been playing Xbox everyday which coincidently is between the 5:30pm to 10ish pm we have been having issues with our router. What can we do to fix this? Do I have to buy a bigger router?
What is the most recommended set up for my routers? I want to add my E2500 as a second wireless router to cover my entire house.I have a Motorola Surfboard SBG6580 cable modem (Time-Warner) at one end of the house.I added via powerline Ethernet connection a new E2500 wireless router at the other end of the house.The E2500 set-up with all defaults and has the same SSID and Password as the Surfboard cable modem.It seems to work OK, but I wonder about network confusion/interference.Do I have to configure the E2500 in some manner to allow seamless roaming of my wireless devices (iPad, Cell Phones, Netbook)?I had an RE1000 with just the Surfboard, but it did not quite do the trick, and does not like both routers connected at either end.
I am trying to setup a WAP with my linksys 2500. I am currently using a Gateway connected to my DSL and am looking to set up the access point through the E2500.
I currently have my E2500 connected via wired LAN (not WAN) port on another router. The E2500 has an LAN IP of 10.0.0.2 and the router has 10.0.0.1 and a dhcp range outside of these. DHCP is disabled on the E2500. I can use my E2500 as a wired access point with no difficulty I plug something in and it calls the router and gets an address, but I can not get DHCP through the wireless of the E2500.
I have Time Warner as my internet company. I recently purchased a new Linksys Router Mode E2500 because I have been having issues with my old router. My internet was disconnecting sporadically. After connecting the new router, a started getting the same issue. I replaced my internet cable modem to a Cisco 2100 modem (provided by Time Warner). I noticed that the issue keeps happening sporadically which makes me believe it is my Linksys router. Every time a new wireless connection is connected, my modem circuit dies. This happens sporadically.

However, after 4 days of usage, not changing anything in the network nor running Cisco Connect or accessing the web interface, I tried to start Cisco Connect and got the message "Cannot access your router".Internet is running, router is accessible via 192.168.1.1 in a browser window, Cisco Connect also works fine on my laptop.The only solution I found on this forum is: reset your router and reinstall Cisco Connect.and then every 4 days resetting my router and reinstalling the software?
My network consists of a Westel C90-610030-06 DSL modem, Cisco E2500 router and Hawking HWREN100 range extender.My wife has trouble with her IPad connecting to the Hawking.Apple says I need to Disable WMM on the E2500.
I am working with vpn setups for the first time. I would like to be able to connect to a computer on a home network through a linksys E2500 router. I have found alot of documentation on connecting to an external vpn from a computer on the lan side of the router, but nothing on connecting from the outside in. The router does have a static ip address with my internet provider, so I can contact the router from the outside. But makeing the connection to the computer on the other side of the router is where I am missing something or I dont realize that it is not possible. On the LAN side I am using DHCP to assign the address to the computer I want to connect to. Perhaps I need to make it have a static address also? I realize that when I configure the connection from the outside that I need to direct the connection to the remote computer in some way, unless vpn connections are fully passed through the router and the connection issue I am having is with the "inside" computer.
