View 4 RepliesI have a linksys wrt54g wireless router and a few weeks ago my wireless connection started to become inconsistent, it would randomly drop service or be very slow, and now it has become very inconsistent and slow, all the while the wireless signal would be 4-5 bars.On my windows 7 desktop, often times the yellow triangle with the exclamation mark pops up over the signal strength indicator when its at 4-5 bars.I've tried changing to 2 different routers and its the same, and the problem is persistent for all computers in the house.I've connected directly via ethernet to the modem and router and service was fine.There are a few wireless networks in the area,some with quite strong signals, but I downloaded the xirrus wifi inspector and it says I'm not sharing a channel (channel 1) and though I'm ~15ft from the router, the signal is ~65dbm, which seems low and is almost equivalent to neighbor's wireless strength.

I have powercycled several times, downloaded new firmware, rebooted and am still having problems. Lately when I do finally get on the internet with a wireless device, the signal strength is very low. It is low on my iphone, on my Mac laptop and also on my Samsung Bluray player. Lately a window keeps popping up when I am trying to watch netflix that states my band width is too low, even though it has been working fine for 2 months. Is my router outdated?
View 5 Replies View Relatedit might be good to point out first that this was never a problem before i began fixing a completely irrelevant problem (screen broke) with my laptop, which took around three weeks. i could at that time use the internet a couple of rooms away from the router just fine, but now it's a no-go. .
the model is WRT54G, and the serial number is CDFD1F9CJ507.
Is it possible to configure the WRT54G as a repeater signal of the WRT120N?

We were getting a poor signal so we moved our router to our living room where we always are, but now we can't connect. We tried resetting everything, turned on and off several times. Went to the linksys wireless set up page, changed SSID and password. Still can't connect with the computer or our iphones. It shows our SSID is there but won't connect. My internet when plug directly to the computer works fine (I am using it now). My computer can connect to the router Linksys WRT54G, we just can't get it to connect to the wireless.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought the top end ea4500 hoping its "high end" claims would get a better wifi signal in my bedroom(on my iphone 4s) than what i was getting with my WRT54G.The end result is it constantly drops signal completely or shows my network but when I try to connect says "cannot connect to wireless network" even though it's staring me right in the face. When I hook my WRT54G up, I get a signal.. all be it weak, but at least it doesn't drop out on me.Did I just waste almost $200 on a high end router that can't push a signal out stronger than my almost 7 year old WRT54G? or am i missing some setting that will make this EA4500 worth its claims? settings info:everything is pretty much on "default" aside from the SSIDs for the different bands and the corresponding WPA passwords.
also another problem, it seems like the router itself craps out every 60-120 minutes, no leds lit up on the router and my modem (Cisco DCP3010) shows no "link". Yet when hooked directly to the PC there is a "link", so pretty sure its the router and not the modem.
Can you use your WRT54G router with the newer WRT310N router to extend your wireless signal? How?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy old WRT54G V8 router has been acting up lately. It keep dropping the connection out of the blue. Sometimes I'd be browsing the Internet when the router's signal vanishes completely, it disappears from the list of available wireless networks on not just my computer, but my smartphone and all other devices in the household! Other times I keep connected to the network but there's no access to the Internet. Everything seems fine on the ISP's part, I can connect just fine directly from my modem, so I'm certain the problem is with the router. Besides, these problems are solved by just power cycling the router.

My IBM T42 ThinkPad running Windows XP Pro has an Intel(R) PRO Wireless 2200BG Network Connection adaptor. The signal strength on the main floor of our townhouse is ~ 80%. My problem is the signal frequently disconnects then recovers automatically causing frustration when browsing the internet. My question: Should I upgrade to a new Wireless N router OR purchase a WiFi Range Extender? since my laptop has a Wireless-G adaptor would a Wireless-N router provide a stronger signal?

With the WRT54G ver. 6, Firmware Version v1.028.When I ran the android app WiFi Analyzer, I get mixed results.On my Samsung Galaxy S3, I saw my signal on Channel 2, and others around me (two on Channel 6 and two on Channel 11).On my ASUS Transformer Prime TFT201 I see the same signals, but my router signal bounces continously between the baseline (-100dBm?) and about -35dBm.
Plugged in the WRT54G ver. 2, Firmware Version v2.x Channel 8.Hooked it up and got good steady signal strength. It Had 'WPA - Shared Key' but did not have the 'WPA - Personal' that was on the ver. 6. So, I had to go and screw things up. I've upgraded this to Firmware Version: v4.21.5 and guess what? I now have 'WPA - Personal'. I also have a signal is bouncing on BOTH units.
On my ASUS, I can see both routers. The ver. 2 AND the ver. 6 are bouncing between baseline and -35dBm, in unison. Apprently something in the ASUS does not like the later Firmwares.On my Samsung I can see the two signals - the ver. 2 on Channel 8 is stable as a rock and the ver. 6 on Channel 2 is also bouncing, but at a much slower rate! Running Speedtest.net a PC hardwired to the ver. 2 - I get 5.34 Mb/s Download and 0.47 Mb/s upload (yeah, my Internet sucks!) Running Speedtest.net through the ASUS/WiFi to the ver. 2 - I get 2.43 Mb/s Down and 0.65 Mb/s Up.Running Speedtest.net through the Samsung/WiFi to the ver. 2 - I get 5.07 Mb/s Down and 1.07 Mb/s Up.

I'm able to have a great signal with my laptop but with my desktop computer I only have 2 bars out of 5 and the pages take forever to load. It surprised me because I choose this router because he was supposed to minimise interference (dual-band). I also noted that the signal was varying a lot from 11 to 65 mbps. I use an ASUS PCIe N network wireless card for my desktop.

I have 3 windows 7 computers but only one wireless g usb wireless adapter from tenda. I also have a linksys wrt54g wireless router that I can use.
I have tried to set up the router as a wireless bridge by loading a DD-WRT bin on my linksys but it seemed way buggy -results - I was only able to get 2 of 3 online and if I restarted any of them I lost the connection completely.
Went back to stock firmware and tried to set up a lan between the 3 towers with the linksys then just bridge the two connections on the main pc - results -no internet at all on 2nd and 3rd pc... and when the connection to the wifi network is started I loose my networking to the 2 pc's on the linksys.
Im not sure if im not setting these up correctly as im just following guides and such but since im fairly good with computers this is making me crazy...to be able to set three computers up on 1 good clear wifi should be an easy task but it's just not working out..
I have a Linksys wireless-g broadbrand router ( WRT54G ) in my bedroom along with my cable modem and everything runs fine in my room. But I also have a pretty old computer in another bedroom about maybe 15 or 20 feet away from the current setup. On that computer I have a wireless g adapter that's connect through a usb port and has very low signal strength. I sometimes use that computer and I'm always getting kicked off I'm guessing because the signal cuts out. So, today I plugged in the adapter in my room with my setup and had amazing signal. What can I do to give that other computer a good boost? I know I should update that computer but I'm guessing I also need to somehow boost the signal somehow.

The building has 3 floors with the distant of each floor expands no more than about 60 - 75 feet from end to end of the building. Not sure what's in the walls as the building is at least 20-25 years old. Total number of users is about 20 - 25.
Here is the problem..
I have a WRT54G wireless router setup to provide wireless coverage for this office, located on the 2nd floor, For some reason, about 10 - 15 feet from the opposite end of the building, the signal drops off big time. Regardless of the floor. So to assist with the signal, I installed a wireless 300N Gain extender on the same floor on the opposite end of the building where the signal was weak. At first, it seemed to work by boosting the signal, but then it seems to show the same issue as before.. sporatic signal loss, signal fluctuation, etc.
My question is should I replace the wireless booster with multiple wireless APs located throughout each floor... maybe 1 per floor? If so, is there a trick to configuring all 3 APs to have the same SSID and same encryptionsso it will be seamless to the users? Since the first AP works fine, I wanted to get 2 additional WRT54G units.
I can never get consistent wifi in my home. I don't know if its because of the concrete walls with rebar inside them or what, but after two rooms I get literally zero wireless signal with my E3000 or WRT54G running boosted signals. Is there some router I can buy that just blasts the strongest signal possible?

I have 2 laptops and a Mac that are all running fine and can recognize the wireless signal but for some reason, the desktop PC suddenly won't recognize the wireless. I have tried a system restore, no good. I have tried to load a different Intel wireless network adapter and downloaded a driver from the laptop I have that is connected, but still no dice. I thought it was a radio hardware switch that accidently got turned off, but I can't find anything on the keyboard or tower that looks like it would turn it back on. Running out of leads.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a LAN port cable, and I have one end connected to the back of my router.Where does the other end go, so I can receive wireless internet connection of both my Toshiba Satellite Laptop, and Gateway Desktop. First I had the LAN port cable connected at the back of my router, and the other end was connected at the back of my desktop. A little green light lit up at the back of my desktop, saying that it was grabbing signal. I could use the internet fine, and my laptop could grab wireless signal fine as well. I was missing around my router, trying to see what mark it was, and the LAN port cable came off, and when I plugged it back in, i couldn't receive signal, and neither could my laptop. Now the only way I can grab signal is by connecting the WAN port cable from my modem to my desktop, which means I cant get wireless signal on my laptop. Now when I do connect my LAN port cable to the back of my desktop, I try connecting to my wireless connection, and when I go to Network and Sharing Center, it says Connected (With full bars).

The problem I'm seeing is that our wireless connection cuts out about 5 minutes after turning on our main desktop. Turn off the main desktop and wireless begins to work again. Throughout all of this, the wired connection works fine, and I have no problem connecting to the router either.
The laptops that normally run from the Linksys network are not showing any network at all. The "Easy Link Advisor" says the network is working.

I used the e3000 router when we lived in town with broadband internet and it worked fine. I can't get it to keep a hold of a signal. I can connect to the router from the computers but the router drops the signal from the tower. I have an old router that the wireless company was kind enough to lend me that works , but the signal is weak and it could die at any moment... I"m at my wits end.. I have an expensive piece of equipment that wont hold the signal. I have updated the firmware and the Cisco connect software..

But the SMC is capable of Wireless N, while the Linksys is only capable of wireless G.So I want to turn my SMC into a router + modem again, but I can't figure out how to do it. I tried resetting to factory defaults by holding the reset button at the back of the unit for 30 seconds but it didn't work.I can get it to work with a wired connection, but when I type ipconfig /all into CMD, it doesn't show any default gateway, so I can't access the router online. I've tried various different IPs like 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1, etc., but none of them work.

I just put DD-WRT firmware on it. I have a Linksys E1000 as my primary router. All I want to do is be able to to put the Secondary router (WRT54G) downstairs near the bluray player and run an ethernet cable from the lan port on the router to the ethernet port on the bluray player to get internet access. I have 2 Dell computers; a desktop and a laptop which I use wirelessly in the house.After doing several things from disconnecting the router to try and determine if the problem was with my router or an ethernet cable AT&T determined a port on my router which is 6 years old could be going bad and recommended I replace my router.I contacted Linksys yesterday; spoke to tech support for my WRT54G router and was given 2 model recommendations. One was a Model E900 N300 and a more expensive model; an EA2700 N600. There is a price difference of $40.00 USD between the 2 models. I could probably get by with the E900 N300 for $49.99 but the guy at Linksys was putting the pressure on me to buy the more expensive one for $89.99. I told him I'd have to think about it.

I am looking for something with the best affordable range, live 3 floors down from the current one and get about 3/4 signal strength so there's not much interference it seems. I watch a lot of online content through Hulu, Netflix, and LMB games and share with 2 other people.I am looking at the E series, probably the E1200, 1500 or 1550 as they seem to meet my needs. Any users have any advice about the ease of install and use of either of these? Or would it be better to get a gateway as we are considering going from DSL to U-verse service, twice the speed for $2/month more
