My son is using the above access point on his laptop. He wants to make the connection secure by having a password that you must enter in order to access it. How does he set up this password? Looked at the user manual; see the screens but don't know how to get to the screen.
View 2 RepliesI've got a windows server 2003 machine which access internet over a Netgear N150 router also I've got an static IP, now internet is working properly even I can ping my machine from a remote machine.Here starts the real problem, I've shared few folders which I can't access from any remote machine not in my LAN.Although I could access my server through remote desktop and everything else is working fine, I've opened port 445 on router even that didn't worked also Windows firewall is OFF.Now when I try to browse my server through \myserverip it shows me a blank window but when I tried to access it like:
\myserveripsharedfolder it gives me error which reads something like
"File and printer sharing seems online but server is not responding on port 445."
I bought this gizmo from a Sydney online dealer hoping it would increase the distance I could take my Ipad and iPhone from the modem however I am a little lost setting it up.It is a Blueway UltraSpeed BT-N9500 Super Speed High-Power Wireless Access Point.I have Win 7 Home on the Laptop box I am trying to use it on.It installed the driver okay and says it is ready for use.But that is where I am lost.Should it be attached to the remote unit (Laptop) or the Desktop Win 7 Pro one near the modem/router?

Here is my setup:I have an Apple airport extreme N set up in the main house. We also have a converted garage in the back yard that is barely within the range of the main router. I have an ethernet cable running from the router in the main house to the back house. I then have that plugged into a switch, which then feeds ethernet to several components. The wireless signal in the back house is very weak, which can be frustrating, so I wanted to set up a separate wireless network in the back. I have an Apple airport express that I am currently using to stream music to a home theater in the back house and would love to use that as a wireless access point. It is hooked up to the switch. I also have a Netgear N router that I could possible use as an access point as well. The problem that I am having is with IP address assignment. I would guess that this is because the main router assigns IP addresses and then the switch also assigns IP addresses

View 10 Replies View RelatedSet up a WDS with a TEW-639GR Router and a TEW-638APB Access point. I am aware that I get half throughput when I access the repeater on WDS and that isn't an issue. Its only laptops, ipads, and Vita's that go upstairs to access the internet because they are mobile. I believe I have set up the 639GR correctly and entered in the other devices MAC address in each device. I double checked they were entered in correctly. When I could not get it working with WEP, I have been attempting to do it without encryption just to get it working.
When I am done configuring them, I take the Access point upstairs and plug it in and the signal streangth is much much better upstairs with it, but I get no internet access and the network keeps dropping off. the networks are named the same and they are on the same channel. All the other networks in my small local area were using channels 1-6, so I put down 11. Both are on 11. When I had first purchased the 639GR half a year ago, I found a website that gave you step by step instructions in how to set up WDS specificly for it. I didn't have the access point then because I didn't need it.

I have 3 - 4 PCS in my office out of which My machine is the main machine and everything is setup on this. so for networking what i have done is i am using a TP link router model TL-WR941D. i had got it configured from an engineer. A cable from my internet modem goes into the blue port of this router(WAN) and my PCs are connected via the LAN port of the router . so everything is working fine right now the local network and internet on all PCS and my laptop also connects through the wifi and is able to access other pcs and also the internet.
To have better signal strength on other floors of the building my engineer had installed 2 access points. They are TP link model Tl-WA901ND. yesterday i updated the firmware of my main router and the settings were some how lost but i managed to set it back to working state using the quick setup utility. so my router and wifi is working fine. But now my access points have stopped sworking . i mean i am not able to get better signal strengths thorugh them. i am assuming theirs ettings /ip etc are lost. now i have no idea how to setup these access points to be used again as part of my wifi network. I looked on the internet but nowhere the thing has been explained in detail. how can i configure my access points/repeaters agaain? i am stuck and engineer is not available for nest few days and my officee internet is suffering.
I have a Belkin High-Speed Mode Wireless G Router F5D7231-4 and I wish to use it as an access point for my main desktop for my wireless network.
I have followed methods supplied by both Belkin and users and have had no success.
Instructions followed:
- Connect a computer to Belkin router using an ethernet cable.
- Reset the router to factory defaults. The reset button can be found at the botton of it. The reset procedure is given below
- Make sure the router is switched ON.
- Locate the reset button(inside a hole) at the back of the router.
- Use a paper clip, push the reset button and hold it for 30 seconds then release the reset button.
- Unplug the Power cable from back of the router and plug it back again and wait for another 30 seconds.
- Log on to router setup page by typing 192.168.2.1 in the address bar of the browser.
- On the left under wireless click on the option Use as Access Point.
- Select Enable and specify the IP address as 192.168.2.254 and subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 and click on apply changes.
Every time the system crashes whilst applying the changes.

Because I can't afford a wireless router at the moment, I've been trying to set up my Windows XP computer as a wireless access point (using a Wireless LAN PCI card), so I can connect my laptop to it and share my internet connection.However, when I try to set up an ad hoc network on my XP computer, it doesn't show up in the list of available networks on my laptop, though it does show up on the XP computer, with the message that it's waiting for other computers to join.The same thing happens the other way around. When I try setting up an ad hoc network on my laptop, it doesn't show up on my desktop computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have never setup an wireless access point before and am having some issues. I have a Linksys WAP54G ver 3.1. A friend gave it to me and he said it was working when he pulled it out of his office.I defaulted the device and using the wizard have the following setup:

IP Address: 10.0.0.239

When I try to connect to it via my laptop I get the error: "Windows was unable to connect to XXXXX"
I have a Virgin Media Netgear VMDG480 broadband modem/router. Whilst the Ethernet performance is strong the Wifi signal strength is weak and only provides signal to half of my house. I've seen various comments on other forums that this is a common problem for this device. To overcome this I propose to install a Wireless Access Point at the far end of the house and connect this to the VMDG480 via powerlink. (I already use this powerlink connect to a PC at the far side of the house and this works really well.)
My concerns are:
1. Will the VMDG480 recognise the Wireless Access Point? I've seen some comments that suggest that this may be a problem.
2. Is there any specific type of Wireless Access Point that I should use to ensure compatibility with the VMDG480?
3. Is the use of a Wireless Access Point across powerlink a sensible approach?
4. An alternative approach is to use a Wireless Range Extender. Is this a better approach? If yes should I use a Netgear device to ensure compatibility?
I have tried to set up a wireless access point using an old Netgear DG384G router as the access point. This is connected by wire to a Buffalo WBMR-G54 wireless router.I have switched off DHCP and set a static IP of 198.168.11.99 on the netgear and it is using WPA-PSK security. I have a small business and IT guy is on vacation for a few weeks. We have a LAN network as well as a wireless router in the office. We have one LAN port in our warehouse, but instead of running 200 ft of cable to the area where I need a connection, I wanted to use that port to hook up a WRT150 N Home Router as an access point to set-up wireless downstairs. I have reset the router, but when I hook it up to a PC downstairs, I cannot even get a LAN internet connection. I have shut everything down and rebooted, but nothing. Our main router (WRV54G) is connected to the address 192.168.1.1. I'm not sure how to install the wireless on the WRT150N if I can't get an internet connection at all, and then how do I change it to an access point. I need to get this up soon otherwise I would wait for my IT guy to come back.

It worked, computer connected to the Belkin via wire was getting IP address from DHCP on main router. But: The Belkin device itself became invisible. I lost connection to Belkin device via config page via HTTP. It does not respond to any IP address so I actually cannot use it for purpose I wanted to set up secondary Wi-fi, I just cannot configure it. Also I wanted to use USB ports of the Belkin to connect external drives. I cannot do it as well. More over it does not go back. It does not reset to the original router option.

I've done quite a bit of work with Cisco kit before (it isn't my speciality, however) and am currently working on setting up the embedded Access Point in a Cisco 1941w ISR.
The primary router is working fine, but I'm getting no where with the embedded Access Point. The whole IOS within an IOS just doesn't compute for me.
Our requirements are really simple.
We have a 10.0.0.0/24 internal network. We want users to be able to access this via the 1941w Wireless Access Point, in the same way that wired users access this via the Ethernet port.
The manual re. setting up the AP gives an example where IP addresses are applied to the AP, which doesn't make sense to me, as we simple want the AP to sit on the same VLAN as the ethernet port.
How the AP is supposed to interface with the primary router? Also, we want to use a WPA secret key to authenticate to AP. Is this possible? The Cisco docs seem to suggest that WPA is only possible through some 3rd party server.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm working on setting up an Aironet 1040 Wireless Access Point for my company. It's my first time setting up something like this, and I've run into a bit of trouble.
I created my first SSID easily enough, following the manual and guides online. I set up VLAN 1 as my native VLAN and linked it to my SSID with the encryption and security that I was told to use and it works great. However, my boss asked me to set up a second connection as well for guests at the office, and this is where my trouble starts.
I created VLAN 2, and then another SSID which I linked here. I set up encryption and security the same way, and I can see the network when I open up my network and sharing manager. I can connect to the network as well, but I either get a spinning blue icon where my signal strength indicator is or a few bars with a yellow caution sign, and Windows says 'Identifying...'. I've compared the two SSIDs using the console and the GUI and I can't seem to spot any obvious differences between them.
I have just changed isp's from talktalk to bt and becose I use an IP security camera, I want to use my belkin modem router. Bt will not even try to set the router up to enable bt bb "even though when going to them they said they would". How to set the belkin N150 for bt broadband.

I have a netgear DG834GT ADSL router which runs fine with my Belkin 51B64C wireless router but when I enable "Use as Access Point" in order for me to see my wireless laptops connected to it the internet performance goes bad, the traffic cuts out momentarily for about 7 seconds at a time, its pretty difficult to surf the net having to wait.The setup is as follows:

Subnet Msk: 255.255.255.0
DHCP Enabled
Belkin

as I said above the reason I enable "Use As Access Point" is so I can see the devices in Explorer for file sharing. Is there a way I can use port forwarding on the router to see the devices it would solve the performance problem.
I tried to use my Netgear 614 router to my Netgear 3300 as an access point to gain range. But now I think I've screwed up the IP address(s) and have lost my wifi ability.
