Linksys Cable / DSL :: WAG120N Setting As Wireless Access Point?
Mar 23, 2013
I have had trouble setting my WAG120N as router.
I am connected to internet via a cable modem, via the LAN cable, I connect cable modem to WAG120N that I want to use as an wireless access point only. And I have got 2 PC, 1 runs on XP, the other on runs on Windows 7. My XP would have no trouble to connect to wireless, but the Win7 can only connect to wireless network, but no internet. When I try the troubleshooting from Win 7, it says, DNS server isnt responding The setting I am using at the moment is Bridged mode only, without entering any values of DNS, IP, etc Is there any setting that work for both OS?

I am connecting to the internet in two desktops using the WAG120N modem+router.I have no problems with the internet. But when I try to use the wireless access point in my mobile phone / laptop, the device is not able to find the WiFi access point. I need to swith off the modem and start it again, then the devices are finding the access point. I guess this has to do with some amount of inactivity and the modem switces off the wireless access point. I there anyway by which I can turn off that setting ? I have tried the setting page but was not able to find anything.

i have a router to connect on Internet, i need it because it let me use VOIP. I want to use WAG120N like Access Point Wireless because my VOIP router is not wireless.
How i have to configure it? What kind of incapsulation i have to use? VOIP router IP: 192.168.1.1
If is it possible (and if it is useful) i would to configure WAG120N with 2 IP, first one: 192.168.1.101 (to communicate with VOIP router and to let me go on internet) second one: 192.168.0.1 (to let me have control on it's configuration)
My devices will connect to 192.168.0.0 network

I am using wag120n modem router but is confused abt how to setup it's wireless security. The wireless securit setting recommended in tutorial given here is very different from what is given in my routrs setting up page.
I don't know how to handle the key renewal option. If i leave it as 3600 seconds does that mean i have to enter a new key in my wireless device connected to the router after every 1 hour?

How do I connect and configure my WAP54G wireless access point to my new Cable Modem? I have it connected to the modem but I cannot access it to configure it. It appears to be working but before I got the cable modem I had it connected to a router and it was set-up with a static IP address. With my new ISP, I no longer have a static IP address so I am trying to configure the WAP54G to use DHCP. Trying to access it thru the internet at 192.168.1.245 does not work.

I just bought a Linksys E4200 wireless router. I have an old Linksys WRT160N wireless router. I would like to setup the WRT160N downstairs to wire the DirecTv box and PS3 to it. Then wirelessly connect to the E4200 upstairs where our modem is connected. Can the WRT160N be used as an access point to do this or do I need other equipment?

I have a small business and IT guy is on vacation for a few weeks. We have a LAN network as well as a wireless router in the office. We have one LAN port in our warehouse, but instead of running 200 ft of cable to the area where I need a connection, I wanted to use that port to hook up a WRT150 N Home Router as an access point to set-up wireless downstairs. I have reset the router, but when I hook it up to a PC downstairs, I cannot even get a LAN internet connection. I have shut everything down and rebooted, but nothing. Our main router (WRV54G) is connected to the address 192.168.1.1. I'm not sure how to install the wireless on the WRT150N if I can't get an internet connection at all, and then how do I change it to an access point. I need to get this up soon otherwise I would wait for my IT guy to come back.

Recently I shifted to ADSL2+ Internet broadband. So purchased "CISCO Linksys WAG120N" router as my firewall hardware( FortiGate60) had no any port to connect to ADSL.Now I'm accessing internet throug the above Linksys router and do not use the firewall as I don't know how to configure the firewall to get the internet access through firewall from the router. My earlier broadband service was directly connected to the firewall's WAN port as it was compatible.configure the firewall to access the internet from the router through the firewall.

I have local WI-Fi network with 2 Macs, 2 PC's, iPhone, iPod and i Pad at home on Link sys WAG120N router. On i Pad when I try to connect to Internet I have to turn WiFi off and on. It works for a while but after waking i Pad from sleep I have to switch off and on again. It really drives me crazy. Sometimes (hardly ever) it happens on my iPhone 4 (same network setup as on i Pad). Other devices connect to Internet whenever I need.

It has been 4 months my Router " Wag 120n ". The Router Gives Me A yellow Sign on the network Icon Sying " No network Access " and the wireless Led is blinking with 1 sec interval So
- I cant open Router's Home Page
- there is No ping to 192.168.1.1 " General Failure or Host unreachable " response
- The Only way to get connected again is to replug the router from electricity , it works normally for 5 min and the Yellow Sign shows up again
the Solutions I Tried to fix that up :-
1) Hard reset the 30/30/15 reset
2) Firmware re-flashing
3) Trying an old firmware 1.0.0.12 instead of 1.0.0.16
but nothing of those worked the Only thing that worked for like 20 min the firmware upgrade but after that the problem came up again the problem happens to all Computers on the network wired or on wireless happens on all kind of operations systems win7, xp, vista, (Android for mobiles).

I need to control the rate at which my WUSB600N adapter connects to my access point. By default, it rate adapts through negotiation with the access point based on a set of possible rates. Can I restrict the set of rates my adapter can use (without re-writing the driver ). I've looked at netsh which provides stats about the rate my adapter is actually using but doesn't appear to allow me to set the desired rate. I'm using Windows Vista by the way.

I have to change ISP, as mine is closing down , and the new ISP will be sending a N router - which may have 5Gh - so I'm thinking of replacng a "G" AP with the WAG320N and use the 5Ghz range. The WAG320N will be used with a USB Music harddrive and a TV and PVR connected to it - so my music will be direct to the DLNA devices - and also provide any devices with a 5Ghz signal

My WAG120N wireless router disconnects every hour, precisely at the same time. This problem has started a few days ago, until then everything was fine. When the connection is gone, the "Internet" light goes off, the other lights remain on. For example, it disconnects at 07:30. It takes a minute or two to reconnect. Then it disconnects at 08:31. It reconnects, and then disconnects at 09:32.. and so on.Here are the things that I have tried (with my limited knowledge.. I'm not good with technology):- Turned the power on/off. No matter what time I do this at, the router disconnects at the same time again. For example, if it last disconnected at 07:30, and I turn it off and on at 7:50, it still disconnects at 08:31.- I tried resetting it, by pushing and holding the reset button on the back for 30-60 seconds (did it several times). Reconfigured the router (manually, not from a backup config file). Same situation as above, disconnects at the same time as always.
- I upgraded the IOS to v1.00.16, which I found here: [URL] reset and then reconfigured again. Still it didn't work.- Looked in the configuration pages for any values that resemble a 60 minute time span, and changed them. Only thing I found was the security key renewal period. Or was I sold a faulty product?

I have 802.11n wireless network at home. Unfortunately my TV box requires internet to work and it doesn't have wifi card installed (only ethernet port). It's very unconfortable to connect tv box with the router through cable.
So is it possible to use WAG120N as a wireless client for my existing wifi network and connect tv box through cable with WAG120N? In that case WAG120N would be some kind of wireless network adapter for my TV box.

I have been using it since approx 6months ago. Previously it was working well except for some major signal issues. However, 3 days ago it decided to go haywire. 1) It does not connect to the internet 2) It does not detect/connect to the computer when LAN cable is plugged in (does not load in 192.168.1.1) 3) I have tried resetting the router many times and even holding the reset button for 30 secs and switching off and switching on but to no avail. 4) I have had a linksys live chat with Johnel and he determined that it may be a possible hardware problem 5) Current Status of the Router: It makes no attempt to establish any connection/load whenever turned on, as seen when no lights are blinking when switched on. Upon switching on, Power Light becomes Red and Internet Light becomes Red and the middle Refresh Button become Red. 6) I have tried installing the driver for the router but there is no way I can install the driver because the computer does not detect that the router is connected What can I do about these? 1) Can I get a replacement of a different model? This router has been giving me problems since Day 1 2) I am seriously considering switching my service provider from M1 to Starhub. If that is the case, is there any way I can be replaced with a Cable Modem instead of ADSL Modem?

I have a slightly confusing set up on my home network and can't figure out how to set up a wireless access point. Here is my setup:I have an Apple airport extreme N set up in the main house. We also have a converted garage in the back yard that is barely within the range of the main router. I have an ethernet cable running from the router in the main house to the back house. I then have that plugged into a switch, which then feeds ethernet to several components. The wireless signal in the back house is very weak, which can be frustrating, so I wanted to set up a separate wireless network in the back. I have an Apple airport express that I am currently using to stream music to a home theater in the back house and would love to use that as a wireless access point. It is hooked up to the switch. I also have a Netgear N router that I could possible use as an access point as well. The problem that I am having is with IP address assignment. I would guess that this is because the main router assigns IP addresses and then the switch also assigns IP addresses

I've noticed something interesting, after having been disconnected from the WLAN in less than 1 minute in my first experience with this Linksys' Modem Router: The signal strength was poor when browsing the Wireless LAN. I was at home, in a room just beside the one where the router was placed at.So, I took a look at connection status, and saw the signal strength was Medium - Weak: something around 30% and 55% You could think it was due to mirrors, the kind of walls between the rooms, and everything else, but I instantly remembered when browsing WLAN from the same place but not with the same router, the signal was strong (100%)...but I let it alone In the other day, while browsing WLAN, I've noticed another thing, this time visible: "TX power" I've got in connection status was 39mW, while I was almost sure it should be 100mW, based on my past WLAN connections Then, today I decided to take a look more deeply in that, and unboxed my Linksys' WRT54G to test. The test was carried on consisting in both Wireless routers placed in the same room, and a solid wall was between me and the routers.I could connect to the two WLANs, but the status of connections were different.
WAG120N:
WRT54G:
As you can see, when connecting to WRT54G , signal reached 100% at some point, whereas in WAG120N , such a mark wasn't possible.Of course, the signal strength was unstable in both routers, but the average level in WRT54G WLAN was greater, being most of time over 90%, and never below 80%.In WAG120N WLAN, average was 82%, and lowest level was 55%.When I went to the room where the routers were at, and right in front of them, no need to say both reached 100%, but as you can see, in WAG120n's case, TX power was still 39mw: I believe it's a firmware fault, once all other routers I've connected to always showed TX power as being 100mW.It shoundn't be related to the general hardware, as Cisco products are high-quality ones.
