Cisco Wireless :: Setting Up Aironet 1040 Access Point

Mar 13, 2013

I'm working on setting up an Aironet 1040 Wireless Access Point for my company.  It's my first time setting up something like this, and I've run into a bit of trouble.

I created my first SSID easily enough, following the manual and guides online.  I set up VLAN 1 as my native VLAN and linked it to my SSID with the encryption and security that I was told to use and it works great.  However, my boss asked me to set up a second connection as well for guests at the office, and this is where my trouble starts.

I created VLAN 2, and then another SSID which I linked here.  I set up encryption and security the same way, and I can see the network when I open up my network and sharing manager.  I can connect to the network as well, but I either get a spinning blue icon where my signal strength indicator is or a few bars with a yellow caution sign, and Windows says 'Identifying...'.  I've compared the two SSIDs using the console and the GUI and I can't seem to spot any obvious differences between them.

We are currently using several AP's in our organization. And in this one AP i want to give a user the power to change the password of the wireless network to prevent miss use. Cisco Wireless :: Aironet AP-1041N Setting To Have Access Point Broadcast Multiple SSIDs

Jan 17, 2013

I have recently purchase Aironet Access Point. I'm pretty new to Cisco systems and what i'm try to do is have the access point broadcast multiple SSIDs lets call them Guest and Admin. My problems is when i config router to have a DHCP address it works perfectly fine but when i assign a static IP it shows all the any connected device as unkown with IP 0.0.0.0. So i'm guessing i will need to setup a dhcp server. Is there a way access point can have its own DHCP server and IP address ( i don't want to use any from my STATIC ip subnet as i dont know alot of empty ones left) like home wifi router where they assign each device an IP like 192.168.0.1. Is this possible?

Cisco Wireless :: Slow Connection With Aironet 1040?

Nov 15, 2012

I have been racking my brain for a while and cannot figure out why I am not getting 144Mbps out of my Aironet 1040. I was reading a previous thread ([URL]) and set it up exactly like it said. I have set the encryption to Cipher AES CCMP and set the SSID to open authentication. I also set the SSID's key management to enable WPA (WPAv2).

I was reading that WMM has to be set. I have 3 options: Disabled, Legacy, and dot11d. If i chose dot11d I have to put in a coutry code. Problem is there are no options in the country code pull down. I cannot even manually type it in.

Another problem is that cell phones cannot connect. It keeps saying authentication fails in the log.

Cisco Wireless :: Configuring Aironet 1040 With WPA2-PSK?

May 24, 2012

I am attempting to configure two Aironet 1040 series wireless access points for the first time and am having some difficulty. This office does not have a RADIUS server so I would like to set them up to use WPA2 with a pre-shared key. However just how this is accomplished is not immediately apparent. I have attempted using both the command line interface and the web interface, but I get errors in both places. It doesn't seem like it is all that difficult, we're just talking about a few lines in the configuration file.

This is what I have so far:

I am looking at outdoor access points, I want to stick with Cisco aironet, we currently have 6 of them that are 6 years old and running great, one has had a problem because of humidity, dried it out and relocated and we are good again.

I was looking at the Aironet 1310 Outdoor access point, but I can't find much information on it.  I am looking to see how many SSIDs can be setup, we currently have 2 one private, and one public, this is done with VLANS.  I am also looking at finding out about the power injector, it converts to coaxial cable, it has 2 RJ-45 and 2 Coaxial, does this mean if we get 2 access points, then I only need 1 power injector?

Cisco :: Samsung Android Phones Cannot Connect To Aironet 1040 Network

Dec 26, 2012

Every device I've tried to connect to my WiFi network have no issues connecting at all, except for, as far as I can tell, Samsung Android phones. My sample set is very small, but both a Samsung Galaxy S3 (both before and after custom ROM install) and a stock Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

I've tried setting a vlan up with no encryption and open authentication, and the phones just halt on "connecting". This issue is both on the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Radios.

What is working is various computers with both intel and broadcom adapters, a Brother printer, and a Motorola Droid 3 and Motorola Photon Q. I'm starting to think that it's an issue with the radio in the Samsung phones, but the S3 is 5ghz compatible and the Nexus is only 2.4, so they must have different radios. I'm also pretty sure that it's not software on the phones since the S3 had the same problem with stock ROM and CM 10, and the Nexus is Vanilla Google ROM.

I'm waiting to get a chance to upgrade to the new FW for my aironet 1040, and I'm going to fire up an old 1130AG as well as test with an iphone or ipod when I get the chance; I'd just really like to find out what the heck is going on with these samsung phones.

Cisco Wireless :: Aironet 1262N - Access Point Behind Non-Root Bridge?

Apr 9, 2012

I want to connect two buildings. Let's call them Building A (main) and Building B.

„A“ is the main building and provides a wired LAN to an AAA server (192.168.1.2) and the WAN gateway (192.168.1.1). There I placed a 1262N with the IP 192.168.1.3 connected to the wired LAN and configured it as Root-Bridge. Let's call it AP01.

„B“ is a pretty large building and has a wired LAN from one end to the other end.
So I placed two 1262N there, each at one end.

The first 1262N is configured as non-root Bridge (AP02) and connects to the Root Bridge (AP01). The IP address of AP02 is 192.168.1.4.

The second 1262N is configured as Access Point (AP03) and connects to the non-root Bridge (AP02) via the wired LAN. The IP adress of AP03 is 192.168.1.5

My Questions:

1. Do I need tell AP02 about the AAA Server in Building A or acts AP01 like a AAA Proxy for AP02 because of it Root Bridge functionality?

2. How Do I tell AP03 that it should use AP02 as a gateway to building A?

Questions :

1.    What is the maximum number of simultaneous users that can be connected to a Cisco Access point, is it 255 or can be more ?

2.       If I define multiple SSID’s, what if the total numbers of users that can be connected to a Cisco Access point

3.       I there a simulator tool that can be used to simulate multiple wireless connections to an AP

4.       Have anyone tested so many users connected to 1 Access point ?

Cisco Wireless :: Aironet 1310 - Infrastructure Access Point Unreachable For Management

Setting Up A Wireless Access Point?

May 29, 2011

I have a slightly confusing set up on my home network and can't figure out how to set up a wireless access point. Here is my setup:I have an Apple airport extreme N set up in the main house. We also have a converted garage in the back yard that is barely within the range of the main router. I have an ethernet cable running from the router in the main house to the back house. I then have that plugged into a switch, which then feeds ethernet to several components. The wireless signal in the back house is very weak, which can be frustrating, so I wanted to set up a separate wireless network in the back. I have an Apple airport express that I am currently using to stream music to a home theater in the back house and would love to use that as a wireless access point. It is hooked up to the switch. I also have a Netgear N router that I could possible use as an access point as well. The problem that I am having is with IP address assignment. I would guess that this is because the main router assigns IP addresses and then the switch also assigns IP addresses

Setting Up Windows XP Desktop As Wireless Access Point?

Jan 30, 2012

I have set up a home network some time ago, using a 4-port wired router. All four ports are in use, one of which by my own desktop computer running Windows XP Home, SP3.I recently received a new laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). Because I can't afford a wireless router at the moment, I've been trying to set up my Windows XP computer as a wireless access point (using a Wireless LAN PCI card), so I can connect my laptop to it and share my internet connection. However, when I try to set up an ad hoc network on my XP computer, it doesn't show up in the list of available networks on my laptop, though it does show up on the XP computer, with the message that it's waiting for other computers to join. The same thing happens the other way around. When I try setting up an ad hoc network on my laptop, it doesn't show up on my desktop computer.

Cisco Wireless :: Setting Up Embedded Access Point In 1941w ISR

Jun 20, 2010

I've done quite a bit of work with Cisco kit before (it isn't my speciality, however) and am currently working on setting up the embedded Access Point in a Cisco 1941w ISR.

The primary router is working fine, but I'm getting no where with the embedded Access Point. The whole IOS within an IOS just doesn't compute for me.
Our requirements are really simple.

We have a 10.0.0.0/24 internal network. We want users to be able to access this via the 1941w Wireless Access Point, in the same way that wired users access this via the Ethernet port.

The manual re. setting up the AP gives an example where IP addresses are applied to the AP, which doesn't make sense to me, as we simple want the AP to sit on the same VLAN as the ethernet port.

How the AP is supposed to interface with the primary router? Also, we want to use a WPA secret key to authenticate to AP. Is this possible? The Cisco docs seem to suggest that WPA is only possible through some 3rd party server.
