Cisco Wireless :: Aironet 1262N - Access Point Behind Non-Root Bridge?
Apr 9, 2012
I want to connect two buildings. Let's call them Building A (main) and Building B.
„A“ is the main building and provides a wired LAN to an AAA server (192.168.1.2) and the WAN gateway (192.168.1.1). There I placed a 1262N with the IP 192.168.1.3 connected to the wired LAN and configured it as Root-Bridge. Let's call it AP01.
„B“ is a pretty large building and has a wired LAN from one end to the other end.
So I placed two 1262N there, each at one end.
The first 1262N is configured as non-root Bridge (AP02) and connects to the Root Bridge (AP01). The IP address of AP02 is 192.168.1.4.
The second 1262N is configured as Access Point (AP03) and connects to the non-root Bridge (AP02) via the wired LAN. The IP adress of AP03 is 192.168.1.5
My Questions:
1. Do I need tell AP02 about the AAA Server in Building A or acts AP01 like a AAA Proxy for AP02 because of it Root Bridge functionality?
2. How Do I tell AP03 that it should use AP02 as a gateway to building A?

I have two 1262N access points with 5Ghz antennas, and I have configured one of them as a root bridge and the other as a non-root bridge; both using the same ssid. I have enble both dott11Radio interfaces on each access point. The problem I am having is that they do not associate. I have not configured them for any encryption or security. I just want to make sure the connect before I add any other configuration. Is there anything else that I need to configure to make them associate.

We have a problem with a Cisco 1400 Bridge. This equipment can not bridge to the other root or not root mode. I can see a message "Interface Dot11Radio0 Radio transmit power out of range" and the MAC Address of Dot11Radio0 appears with 0000.0000.0000.I set the local power to 18 but the MAC Address is still in 0000.0000.0000.

why my AIR-AP1262N-A-K9 will not boot all the way. It will get all the way to initiating the interfaces and stop. I can never get to controlling the cli. This is my first time with a cisco ap but from everything that I read it seamed very easy.
This unit from what I understand will work all on its own with no controller. Hence it is called a "standalone" model. Yet it seems to be looking for something to finish during the boot. Below is the out put during boot. The last line is where it stops.

I am trying to enable the workgroup bridge mode on the 5ghz 802.11N radio of a Aironet 1262N, but when I select the workgroup bridge mode from the GUI the radio becomes disabled. If I select the Access Point role from the GUI then the radio instantly becomes enabled. The same thing happens if I attempt the same procedure with the 2.4ghz radio as well. I can get the radios from both bands enabled if I select the Access Point role. I made sure to check that both radios were not set to workgroup bridge as well. I am running 12.4(25d)JA1 code on the AP. This is my first time working with this type of AP.

I have a pair of Aironet 1310's I am needing to bridge. I have used the CLI to configure the BVI1 with the ip address and verified it. I then tried to access the GUI to configure the device via Internet Explorer and it would not provide access. I read that it had to be older versions of IE but my OS will not support older versions. I then downloaded Netsace Navigator 7.01 as indicated, but still did not get access.
Then I thought maybe if I can access the GUIvia the IPSU tool but I have Googled the Cisco IPSU and cannot find a downloadable link.

I have setup a WiFi bridge using two Cisco 1262n AP. I was able to get the bridge up and running for a little while. But soon after I plugged in a switch on the non root side of the bridge, the LAN on the root side started slowing and user were getting disconnected from the network. I suspect the Spanning Tree issue with the Bridge.
Couple questions:
I am using both the 2.4 and the 5Ghz bands for the Bridge. I assume that this was OK and was needed to get the highest throughput, right?
I was making an assumption that the AP would take into account the possible spanning tree issues automatically when both bands are used in the same bridge. Is assumption correct? If not what is the correct configuration for spanning tree on a wireless bridge that uses 2.4 and 5 bands?

I just picked up a Cisco Aironet AIR-AP1252G-A-K9 Wireless Access Point to mess around with at home and learn IOS.
The unit didn't come with a power adapter or any accessories. Just the bare AP. Does this AP need a controller to work? Can I use it as a standalone AP?

I am trying to find a way to login to our wirless access point. I have a Aironet 1130AG series wireless router. I have the ip address. It is a POE device so i dont have a power supply for this device. When it is on I can see the Wireless Network but the passcode has been lost and no one knows it. Is there a default IP address for this equipment? There is an Ethernet port for a console but without the power supply i cannot access it.

We are currently using several AP's in our organization. And in this one AP i want to give a user the power to change the password of the wireless network to prevent miss use. I was wondering if it was possible to create an account who only has the privilege to change the WPA key?? I want to prevent that he will accidently change other settings.

I am looking at outdoor access points, I want to stick with Cisco aironet, we currently have 6 of them that are 6 years old and running great, one has had a problem because of humidity, dried it out and relocated and we are good again.
I was looking at the Aironet 1310 Outdoor access point, but I can't find much information on it. I am looking to see how many SSIDs can be setup, we currently have 2 one private, and one public, this is done with VLANS. I am also looking at finding out about the power injector, it converts to coaxial cable, it has 2 RJ-45 and 2 Coaxial, does this mean if we get 2 access points, then I only need 1 power injector?

I'm working on setting up an Aironet 1040 Wireless Access Point for my company. It's my first time setting up something like this, and I've run into a bit of trouble.
I created my first SSID easily enough, following the manual and guides online. I set up VLAN 1 as my native VLAN and linked it to my SSID with the encryption and security that I was told to use and it works great. However, my boss asked me to set up a second connection as well for guests at the office, and this is where my trouble starts.
I created VLAN 2, and then another SSID which I linked here. I set up encryption and security the same way, and I can see the network when I open up my network and sharing manager. I can connect to the network as well, but I either get a spinning blue icon where my signal strength indicator is or a few bars with a yellow caution sign, and Windows says 'Identifying...'. I've compared the two SSIDs using the console and the GUI and I can't seem to spot any obvious differences between them.

A customer has a wireless PTP bridge using a pair of 1410 bridges. The non-root bridge event log shows the RSSI polling information message indicating the link's signal strength; ie. -42 dBm. It updates every few seconds or so. The root bridge does not show this information in the event log. Both bridges have the event log configuration options set identically, all messages types are enabled. I can't find any reference to this in the documents. Is this by design? I thought that maybe a root bridge if it was set up as a multi-point might be overwhelmed if it was showing/scrolling RSSI from multiple non-roots.

I have a very special application where I need to connect as much as possible end devices to a single access point. The required data throughput per end device is very small - around 1 to 5 kbit/sec.I am using the Access Point Aironet 1242AG.
Questions :
1. What is the maximum number of simultaneous users that can be connected to a Cisco Access point, is it 255 or can be more ?
2. If I define multiple SSID’s, what if the total numbers of users that can be connected to a Cisco Access point
3. I there a simulator tool that can be used to simulate multiple wireless connections to an AP
4. Have anyone tested so many users connected to 1 Access point ?

I must configure an Aironet 2602e Access Point, as a standalone access point (without WLC), but I can not find Configuration Guides for that. I have only found the "getting started guide" but there is described an installation combined with a WLC, which I have not. Is it provided no real guidance from Cisco? I did something never done before.

We are in need to perform a site survey with the Aironet 1041N Access Point.
Upon reviewing the site survey software, it seems you need to use an Aironet adapter. However from what i can tell, all the Aironet adapters are PCMICA cards, which most modern laptops do not have, and the PCMICA cards that do exist don't have drivers for windows 7.
Are there USB adapters w/ Windows 7 drivers that can be used to perform a site survey?

We have 2 aironet 1310 aps setup as infrastructure access points between 2 buildings. One went south on us & we placed it. Before the bad one went down, we were able to manage both remotely & could see them from the next device via CDP. Now, we can't connect or even ping either AP. And the weird part is that the switches that connected to each can see each other via CDP, but not the access points between them. I'm attaching the configuration. Before I make the 2.5 hour drive back to the site, what I may have misconfigured on either or both access points?

I wonder if I can join via the WAP 4410n Bridge and also work as Access-point at a time. The idea is that you can connect to a router that provides Internet service that makes access-point bridge and connect to another WAP 4410n which would be another single access point for wireless bridge.

I have recently purchase Aironet Access Point. I'm pretty new to Cisco systems and what i'm try to do is have the access point broadcast multiple SSIDs lets call them Guest and Admin. My problems is when i config router to have a DHCP address it works perfectly fine but when i assign a static IP it shows all the any connected device as unkown with IP 0.0.0.0. So i'm guessing i will need to setup a dhcp server. Is there a way access point can have its own DHCP server and IP address ( i don't want to use any from my STATIC ip subnet as i dont know alot of empty ones left) like home wifi router where they assign each device an IP like 192.168.0.1. Is this possible?

I have spent most of the weekend trying to get this router to act as a proper Access Point.
When it does work (Stay connected) speeds and latency are rotten. If I go back to Routing Mode this thing kicks butt, but I isolate all devices attached to a different subnet and trying to set up proper routes has proved imposable. Firmware 1.0.2 r 13
The online help stated to connect to the "internet interface" when in Bridge Mode DHCP Server Is not broadcasting to on the wireless or wired interfaces.
If I used the wired interface as the uplink I can broadcast the DHCP to any device on wired but again nothing to the Wireless. When I "Show Routing Table" I see two static routes pointing to the ATT router for the Wired/Wireless Interfaces.. 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 (my Gateway) Wired/Wireless (my Gateway) 255.255.255.0 0.0.0. Wired/Wireless
AP mode should only be working in Broadcast. By connecting the Wired Interfaces alone up to my switched network should not use the router at all. If you force all traffic to my router all traffic has to be inspected by the firewall You create a bottleneck my router interface is 10/100.
ATT 2 Wire Gateway/Router with pinholes. 10/100/1000 Non managed 24 port Switch Network. Server infrastructure serving DNS/DHCP.
I decided to buy this after reading it offered Bridge/Access Point mode instead of getting the WAP610 because I wanted to have the option to change to routing mode or AP mode. Since my ATT Uverse Router Wireless is “g” it takes forever to transfer files to and from my servers.

I have a Cisco 880 (supplied by my company and as such I have little access to the control panel). I have a Linksys (Cisco) E1200 to use as an access point. Cisco setup (love it!) but the simple setup gives the E1200 an ip range starting at 192.168.1.1 while the Cisco 880 range is 192.168.185.113. I need to have all connections in the same ip rage (192.168.185.xxx) for remote monitoring. What is the best way to accomplish this? Bridge mode (I don't need Guest Mode which I read is not possible in bridge mode)? Disable DHCP on the E1200?
