New Router Signal Slower Than Old One?

Jul 27, 2012

I previously had a Linksys WRT54G, before I upgraded to my new router I was getting quite good signals and my internet speed on my pc was ranging from 3.7 - 4.5 Mbpsfter upgrading to a Cisco Linksys E4200 based on the great Cnet ratings, my internet speed has plumetted to a range of 2.5 - 3.1 Mbps and the Signal Strength on my wireless connection has gone to "Very Low"I have checked the channels of the surrounding routers (using a software called network stumbler). I am using channel 1 which is not being used by anyone else.I am just surprised, I thought my speed and connection strength would sky rocket after getting such a good router.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2000 Slower Than ISP (even When Wired)

Sep 7, 2012

I have a Cisco E2000. When i connect to my cable modem directly, I get 30-35 MBps down and about 10 up. When I plug in to my E2000 it does that at first... but slowly over time, the speed degrades, usually down to about 5-6 down and 3-4 up. If I unplug the router, it typically restores full speed, but not for long (a few days maybe). Also, when I unplug the router, it is pretty hot.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Slower Internet When Using The E2500?

Jan 31, 2012

I seem to have an issue when with my new E2500 router Version 1 (upgraded to the new fireware - today to elimate issues with that).I had RCN installed a 50MB connection today. When I connect directly to the Modem, I get almost the 50MB of the server, see link from the speedtest. [URL]. However, when i plug the ethernet cable from my Cable Modem to my Wireless Router I get around 15-20MB. Here is an example:[URL]. I know speeds can vary, but if i unplugged and rest within seconds i get my expected 50MB.The cable modem is in the living room, right next to the Wireless Router. I am situated less than 2 metres from the devices when I get results and have full bars.I've tried varying the MTU on manual and also enabled it to adjust as required.

Linksys WRT160N Router - Download Speed Slower Than Upload?

Dec 30, 2011

I am getting very slow download speeds on my wireless router (Linksys model#WRT160N). I measured it on with my ASUS laptop, ASUS Transformer Prime tablet, and 2 Ipod touches. All similar speeds.

Download avg: 1.30 Mbps
upload avg: 6.20 Mbps

I measured my desktop speed that is hardwired through the router to the modem.

Download avg: 30.00 Mbps
upload ave: 6.20 Mbps

I have scanned all the wireless connection in my area and found them to occupy channels 1, 6, 11. I tried changing my channels one at a time for all 11 channels. Some did a little better than others but not a lot. Also, if I by a dual channel router, can all wireless devices pick up on the 5GHz spectrim and if some, could this alleviate some interference? Is it possible that my router is going bad and a new single channel 2.4 GHz router will be fine?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E1000 Slower On Wifi Than Ethernet?

Mar 26, 2013

my linksys e1000 router compares pretty well to my modem when the Ethernet cable is hooked up.  I get fast DL speeds above 50Mbps either way when the Ethernet cable is plugged into my computer.  However, when I connect wirelessly, regardless of range I can't seem to DL any faster than 20Mbps.  I went ahead and restored my factory defaults so that I could use Cicsco Connect and upgrade the firmware, but beyond that I don't know what settings to tweak.

TP-Link 3G/3.75G Router :: TL-MR3420 / Dual-Cell Radio Surf Sticks 50% Slower Than On PC?

May 1, 2013

Region : Ireland
Model : TL-MR3420
Hardware Version : V2
Firmware Version :
ISP : Vodafone

I have a Vodafone K4605 surf stick (same as Huawei E372). It is a dual-cell radio modem so in normal conditions it will have throughput speeds twice that of a normal single radio, such as a phone or older previous gen stick. When I connect it to my PC and install the software that comes with it I can get 18Mb/s downstream. But when I connect it to my current router (draytek 2830np) I only get 9Mb/s so I'm guessing it is not using the two radios and aggregating the connection. So I have two questions. My main one is if the K4605/E372 needs a special modem string for it to work properly, and my second is does the TL-MR3420 have this issue or could I get the full 18Mb. Also I might be getting a K5006 soon which has three radios. Would the TL-MR3420 support that also and give me 27Mb?

Slower DSL Speed After Splice?

May 5, 2011

I have ATT DSL Extreme service and I actually get about 8.0 service. There is a POTS splitter in my box that splits this line out to my office about 75 feet away. I recently moved the office back into the main residence and rather than move the 8 pair wire ATT put in, I jumped it with a new wire back to my new office. At the POTS, I didn't see where I could add a line so I spliced the pair I needed. Now it essentially feeds either building. But, now my speed tops out at just over 7.0. I have to believe the splice affected the speed but I don't understand why.

Speeds (Mbps) obtained:
Write Read Connection
8.5 8.9 wifi
0.2 13.8 ethernet & wifi
0.2 14.5 ethernet

I have tried upgrading firmware (currently 2.040) but the NAS seems unwilling to do this. I have also reset the router -- all to no avail.

New PC Has Much Slower Internet Connection Than An Old Laptop?

Nov 12, 2012

I recently built my first PC:

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 58 Stepping 9 (overlcocked to 4.1)
Processor Count: 8
RAM: 16339 Mb
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670, -2048 Mb
Antivirus: avast! Antivirus, Updated and Enabled

But I have been having major issues with internet speed. I browsed through the forums and, as a result, updated my LAN driver with the latest driver for the Intel LAN Driver V17.3.0.0

I have the virgin media super hub with up to 60mbps download but rarely get over 20 and even then the download of webpages seems glitchy... on evenings it is terrible with 0.5 to 1.5mbps being the norm. The problem is also affecting Chrome which struggles to render maps and stream videos such as 720p videos on youtube even when I have a tested connection of 30ish. I usually resort to using Explorer, reducing videos to 360p or even 240p.I've reinstalled Chrome a few times but still no change.

What is going on??I also have an old Dell Inspiron laptop which works brilliantly with the fast internet - where the speed of the hardware is the only limiting factor.

Internet Got Slower Download But Upload Is Fine?

Oct 8, 2012

I am facing with internet download speed reduced to 1/4th (500kbps) of promised speed (2Mbps).

ISP: Tikona India Type: Wireless unit at roof connected to PoE and ethernet cable
OS:Win7 and ASUS Express Gate I am using the ISP for over a year and was happy but for past 1 month got issues.

The first service engineer came and changed the poer adapter, clipped the ethernet LAN cable. The AI NET 2 utility in BIOS showed the pair 1-2 and 3-4 are short. So second service engineer changed the cable, power adapter and router.

I hoped that things will get resolved but still the speed was slower so the enginner unplugged the LAN cable from my desktop and checked the speed in his laptop. He was getting 2.5Mbps. Then I checked in safe mode with networking and asus express gate but still got reduced speed from 500 to 600kbps.

I had a NIC replacement so tested with that also and got same reduced speed.

WRT54GS Computers Connected To Switch Much Slower

Feb 15, 2012

Basically, my home network is comprised of a WRT54GS Router which the cable modem and my main computer are plugged into (as well as vonage, networked printer). That leaves one port open which is used to connect a Dlink DES-1105 10/100 switch. I am connecting it using a crossover cable, though that was not necessary.I just noticed that a computer connected to that switch gets MUCH less download speeds at, and it gets STUCK on the upload test (doesn't even start).I unplugged it and plugged it directly into the router for testing. I get 20-30 megs down (like I should), rather than 5-11 like the switch gave me (ONCE the switch gave me over 20, not sure why..)The upload test NEVER runs though. I've tried different computers as well. I tried setting the computer to "100 full duplex" manually and no luck.

Cisco VPN :: 5510 Slower Internet Speeds While On VPN

Oct 9, 2011

I have installed a new ASA 5510 on our internal network as a termination point for our VPN connections. This ASA replaces the VPN termination on our outside ASA. I have setup a VPN group profile and enabled DTLS on the interface on this ASA. The only interface on this ASA is the inside interface. We have done speed tests while on the VPN from both devices. When connecting to the VPN on the outside ASA speed tests show download speeds between 5-8 Mbps and upload speeds of .80-.96 Mbps. When connecting to the VPN on the inside ASA speed tests show download speeds between 2-3 Mbps and .76 Mbps. When I run the "show web-session svc" command on both instances I see that the connection to the firewall on the outside shows that the protocol being used is DTLS however on the inside it doesn't show DTLS.
I think that part of the problem is that DTLS isn't being used. What can I do to improve my download speeds? Will the ASA use DTLS if the interface that is being used is the inside interface?

Cisco WAN :: 2651XM - Slower Network Routing Only With OS X

Aug 4, 2012

We have a Cisco 2651XM at the edge of our network, which routes our public IP block. This sits on a 100 Mbit/s ethernet pipe (full duplex) up in the datacenter.  We are also running 100mb full duplex on our our side of the network.  We have several public servers behind the router.
We have recently set-up a new Apple OS X Lion Server to serve a few websites.  However, when downloading some files from the server the from a remote location, I noticed I can only get a maximum of 15 Mbit/s out of the connection.
When downloading a large file over HTTP (Apache) from this OS X Lion  server from another server on the same internal network (behind the  router), we get a full 100 Mbit/s transfer speed.
However,  when we download the same file from anywhere on the internet (external  side of the router), we can only manage to get 15 Mbit/s out of the  transfer.
However,  we also have other Linux & Windows servers that we can achieve a  full 50 Mbit/s (our office connection speed) externally under the same  network conditions.
So it  also appears it's only for a single connection - not a limitation for  the whole server.  If I open two HTTP connections, I can get say 15  Mbit/s out of each transfer - totalling 30 Mbit/s... if that makes  sense.
Update: I also notice slower ping latency when pinging from outside the network. Most of the servers reply in 15ms while the new OS X server usually takes over 40ms on average.
Router show ver:

IOS (tm) C2600 Software (C2600-IS-M), Version 12.2(11)YT2, EARLY DEPLOYMENT RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

D-Link DAP-1522 :: Wireless Connection Usually Much Slower Than Other AP

Jan 22, 2009

I have a defective DAP-1522, or what. First off, I have never been able to access the unit at http://DLINKAP when my computer is connected directly to the 1522 via ethernet, only works to bring up the web interface.

Second, I have more than one AP at my house, but the DAP-1522 is the only networking device I have have problems with (I am using the unit in AP mode). Basically, the problem is the wireless connection usually is much slower than my other APs (both N and G), even when the computer is physically right next to the DAP-1522. And that's when the unit is at it's best. At it's worst, I can't connect to the internet at all, even though my laptop shows full signal strength. The 1522 just seems really finicky. The problem doesn't seem to be a networking issue, because a 2nd AP that is connected through the wired portion of the DAP-1522 works perfectly, implying the 1522 is having no networking issues when using the ethernet ports. But since the problems persist with full signal strength and with the computer right next to the 1522, it doesn't seem to be a wireless connection issue either. And I have no problems connecting to any other wireless APs I own (and I own about 5 others, not that I use them all at the same time).

If I could, I would return my 1522, but I've been tinkering with it for too long now to return it. It has caused me a ton of frustration. I had a wired-only router for a long time (hence the purchase of the 1522), but just bought a new wireless-N router that is performing perfectly (as a router, and as an N AP). I hoped the old router might have not been playing nice with the 1522, but have seen no improvement with the 1522 wired to the new router (on opposite ends of my home).

Note that I use Macs only, no Windows machines. I started with the 1.02 firmware for the 1522, now have 1.20 firmware, but have noticed no improvements with my issues.

WRT54GS / Slower Internet Speeds On Wireless Connection?

Aug 17, 2011

I have two computers in the house both HP desktops, both run Windows XP SP3. The first one is connected to the internet by ethernet cable through a WRT160N router to a cable modem, the other is in another room ( about 20 feet away from the router with only one wall). The wired computer averages around 15-20mbps download speed while the wireless only gets about 7-9mbps. I've checked them both using and the results are always about the same, the wireless has about half the download speed of the wired connection. They both have .95-.98 mbps upload speeds. When my old router (WRT54GS) finally gave up I bought the WRT160N which is an N router, I haven't upgraded the network adapter in the wireless computer to N yet. My question is should I lose this much speed through the wireless connection or do I need to change the settings on the router or the wireless adapter?

Cisco Firewall :: PIX 515e 2 ISPs Max Speed Is Slower With ISP

Apr 19, 2012

have a PIC 515e connected to two ISPs via 2 interfaces.  ISP1 is a 3.5Mbps aDSL line, and ISP2 is a 30Mbps business cable.  I've confirmed the speeds by connecting the cabled directly into a laptop and using wget to download very large files from known-fast sites.
For admin reasons, I need to access two specific subnets using the slower ISP1.  The rest of internet traffic should go to the much faster ISP2.
So I configure ISP2 as the default gateway, static routes for the two subnets to ISP1, set up NAT (PAT) and it all works like a charm.  I've confirmed that ISP1 is used for only the two subnets, and ISP2 for everything else.  CAPTUREs on the pix also confirm this.  So far, it all works great.
But for reasons I don't understand, my max. download speed is 3.5 Mbps (the slow DSL).  Using various speed tests and wget, I simply cannot get a download speed faster than my 3.5 Mbps DSL line.
Here is my config:
interface ethernet0 100full
interface ethernet1 100full
interface ethernet2 100full
