So I am trying to connect my desktop to my router via an Ethernet cable. When I plug the cable to my PC, it won't connect to my router. However when I plugged the cable to a laptop, it worked fine. On this Tuesday just gone, however, my brother took it upon himself to mess with the router whilst I was out. Apparently, his internet had been down since we'd had a power-cut on the Sunday, (My internet was fine, and always has been and was fully functional after said power-cut), and before then, it'd been going really slow, and sometimes cutting out. Okay, no problem. Now, the the thing is, that morning, I was on my internet, all happy, and when I returned home that evening, my PC wouldn't connect. My PC still refuses to connect, three days on. It's not even picking up that there's something plugged in.the router is actually flashing to say that my PC is plugged in and connected to the router. I know that there is nothing wrong with the modem or what have you, as I linked my laptop up to my PC via a cable earlier today to try and get it online. It's not a virus program problem, either. Like I said, it was working Tuesday morning, nine hours later, I come home, my brother restarted/unplugged the router, and now my PC won't connect. I should also note that he's now had to go wireless via a dongle, and everyone else in the house uses wireless laptops. I can't connect my PC to the internet with a dongle

I have a desktop computer for gaming and a laptop, but when I was assembling my desktop I didn't put in a wireless card thing so i've been able to get internet since by connecting my desktop and laptop (which has wireless) with an Ethernet cable and everything has been fine.Apart from a few days ago when it all stopped working, my laptop works fine as does my desktop but the desktop and laptop can't seem to connect anymore.

It worked fine this morning, however, when I turned my PC on a few hours ago it became very unstable. After it happens I have to reconnect to internet (it doesn't work all the time, I usually have to do it two times for it to work), and then again after a few minutes the connection dies. Tried restarting my computer, tried restarting the modem, tried the troubleshooting network thing (it keeps saying "Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration", but gives no solution). However, if i switch to a wireless adapter it sometimes works (like right now) even when my brother is not using the internet. Also, i tried to connect via wifi on my macbook pro to the same server and it used to work flawlessly 100% of the time, now i can only connect once in a while for short periods of times.

It is not detecting my ethernet cable, and thus leaving me without internet on my desktop, after i updated its driver. The cable is not the problem as I have tested the cable with my laptop. I tried rolling back drivers, doing system restore and removing drivers with driversweeper and letting windows install the drivers again. However, none of these worked for me. I doubt the NIC is faulty as it was working before i updated the drivers. I am using windows 7 home premium 64-bit.

Yesterday when i tried to power it on after a couple of seconds the power led was solid green and the Ethernet leds were blinking with no Ethernet cable attached to the router . The ethernet leds would keep blinking for minutes . I tried to use a screwdriver to do a hardware reset ( with power on ) and i noticed that the power led would start blinking green/red for minutes . I tried to use another wired router which i have for backup and it could connect to the internet normally without a problem.
What the green / red blinking power led means ( power led is green and then changes to red and then it starts over ) ?
I have a Dell XPS M1530 with Vista 32 bit. When i plug in a cable i get nothing, no error, and the comp does not recognize that a cable has been plugged in. I think that this started after my Hard drive failed and Dell replaced it but i'm not positive. No errors (? or !) in Device Manager and I can't find the Marvell 88E80XX 10/100 Ethernet Controller in device manager. I have attempted to Reinstall the drivers. The wireless is still working. I have one Light to the right of the port that is on all the time solid but no flashing with the cable in or out.

Yesterday I was on my computer when all of the sudden my internet stopped working. I am using windows 7 and at the bottom right I see a big "X" over the small computer icon. I already tried a computer reboot, a router+modem reboot, system restore, and I even reset the power to the room of the modem+router from the fuse box in my house. I tried everything.
I'm sure the problem must be from the actual cable or mother board itself. ( I hope it isn't ) I tried blowing out any dust from the ports and making sure that nothing was blocking the connection. I fell asleep last night with the internet not working, and woke up to it working. Every other computer in my house works except for mine. I tried all of the router ports as well. I did not attempt another ethernet cable though because my room is far and I would need to make a very long one.
I just reinstalled Windows 7 on my computer again and appear to be having trouble connecting to the internet with my ethernet cable. I've only ever used a wired connection on this computer, but am completely unable to do so at the moment.

I did this, and it tried to install the software on startup but it keeps failing when installing. I'm able to see other computers connected to the network, share printers and have access to shared files but have no internet access. I have a Asus g73jh computer running 64-bit windows 7 and i have an atheros ar8131 pci-e gigabit ethernet controller NDIS 6.20 for my network adaptor, that is fully updated and says is working properly but doesn't recognize when an ethernet cable is plugged in. At the moment I cant run an ethernet cable through my house from my router to my desktop PC (Which is where I use the internet/play games etc) and connect directly that way because my parents dont want cables going through the house etc etc.For the past 2 months or more I used my old laptop to pick up the wireless connection downstairs then I bridged the connection and used my ethernet cable from the laptop into my PC/Xbox or whatever, no problems until today, I wouldnt even have to log into the laptop, i would just turn it on and leave it at the login screen and I would have internet on my desktop/Xbox.Tried to do that today and was getting unidentified network on my desktop, i dont know what the problem is, I can connect directly to my router with the ethernet (I tried it) but not the old way anymore, i'm on the laptop now on the wireless internet.In network connections there LAN network isnt there anymore, its just the 'Unidentified Network' which is the bridged connection.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a computer that runs windows 7, and I run an ethernet cable from netgear router into my computer. It used to run fine, but all of a sudden it stopped recognizing the ethernet cable, and I can not access internet.
I know it is not the cable because I can plug in the same ethernet cable to my laptop (runs XP) and it recognizes and I can access internet.
Also, I know it's not the slot on the router because because I switched places with my other ethernet cable that plugs into Netgear Powerline Ethernet Adapter for my Xbox, and the slot recognizes the adapter just fine.
So I am thinking it has to do something with Win 7 or the computer. My computer does have the wireless capability, and I am running it on wireless right now.
