Linksys Wireless Adapters :: AE2500 Only Gives 39Mbit Usable

Jul 6, 2011

I recently upgraded my router to the Linksys E4200 and setup a 40MHz connection using Channels 44+48 of the 5Ghz spectrum.  This works really well on my wife's Lenovo T420 w/Centrino 2x2 and Windows 7.  I get over 100Mbit sustained performing CIFS file transfers from my file server.  My SSID for 5Ghz is different from 2.4 so I can easily verify which one I'm connected to.

I wanted to do the same on my laptop which is a bit older (Lenovo T410) and only supported 2.4Ghz.  So I bought the new Cisco AE2500 802.11n USB adapter and plugged it into a USB2.0 slot (I believe all slots are USB 2.0 on this laptop).  I'm using the latest driver from the Cisco website.

Windows XP reports a connection speed of "300Mbit" just like on the my wife's laptop -- but when I do the same CIFS file transfer my transfer rate is "stuck" at 39mbit download (13% of 300) and for uploads I'm getting 16-17% of 300 (approx 48Mbit).

I've tried fiddling with all manner of advanced settings in the Windows driver for the NIC with no avail.  No matter what, it's like I'm capped at exactly 39 Mbit.

I tried reviewing the specs of the AE2500 and it says it has two antenna's per band.  I assumed this meant it was 2x2?  Is this not the case.  Is it 1x1?  Could this explain it?  Or, does it matter which 5Ghz channels I use -- from the AE2500 spec sheet it seemed like it might not support all 5Ghz frequencies?

While 39Mbit is better than the 17-20Mbit I was getting on 802.11g, given how well my wife's laptop works using the Intel NIC it seems something is lacking with the AE2500 or its driver.

Cisco Wireless :: 2106 Network Ports Not Usable

Oct 15, 2008

basic question regarding the switchports on the rear of the 2106 controller. How do I configure them for use? I'm using port 1 as my uplink to a trunk port on an ASA and my network traffic to the management interface and guest vlans is all working as expected, but when I plug anything into any of the other ports, they get no addresses from my dhcp server (the ASA). I see nowhere to configure which vlan to tie the ports to or anything. I suppose I'm more used to a catalyst or ASA where I can just pick the ports and vlans (or trunks) I want to attach them to. [code] Again, all of the existing network functionality (private and guest network) is all functioning fine so I'm pretty confident I have the above configured correctly, I just cant make any progress on the WLC ports 2 - 8.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Unable To Establish Usable Internet Connection

Jan 22, 2012

Purchased E2500 1 week ago.  I do not have a problem communicating with the router itself (either hard wired or wireless) but I have been unable to establish a usable internet connection from the router.I live in building that is wired by Restech Services - Ethernet jack in wall - no modem.  Connection works just fine if I bypass router and connect directly to PC (windows XP SP3 desktop or windows 7 laptop.),Very difficult to establish any internet connection at all.  I have to renew IP address many times or go through re-boot sequence multiple times.  Once I get a connection it is unusable.  If I attempt to ping a URL (either from PC or from router admin page) it is unable to resolve host.  If I ping an IP directly (either from PC or router administrator page) I typically get 60 to 80% packet loss.  As noted, if I bypass router and make internet connection directly to PC - no problems - no packet loss.Used Cisco Connect software to set up.  On advice of ISP changed MTU from 1500 to 1300.  Also registered MAC id with ISP and changed from cloning PC MAC to using the router MAC.  Downloaded and installed latest firmware version.  Did factory reset and re-configured the whole thing.  Double checked and swapped wiring.

Cisco Firewall :: Routing To Internal Subnets From ASA 5510

May 17, 2012

Having trouble with a couple items.  First of all, should I be able to ping the inside interface of the ASA from all internal subnets assuming all of these subnets/vlans are directly connected to the same L3 switch?  I can ping the ASA inside interface from our L3 switch, but I cannot ping the inside interface from a host on a different internal subnet.  I have setup static routing on the ASA [

route inside 10.10.96.0 255.255.248.0 10.30.1.1 1]and verified that I can ping the host [10.10.96.212] from the ASA inside interface [10.30.1.5].  The inside interface is on the 10.30.1.x/24 subnet.  My host is on the 10.10.96.x/21 subnet.  From the ASA I can ping 10.10.96.212, but I cannot ping 10.30.1.5 from 10.10.96.212.  I can however ping 10.30.1.1 from 10.10.96.212.

This leads to my next issue, which is trying to setup the ASA to work concurrently with our current firewall.  I'm doing this in order to transition to the ASA.  I'd much prefer to cutover inbound NAT a little at a time vs. doing it all at once.  Our current firewall is setup at 10.30.1.2 and this is the default route on our L3 switch (0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.30.1.2).  So my question is, if I setup an inbound NAT to one of our web servers on the 10.10.96.x subnet, will I be able to get it to route back to the ASA as opposed to ending up in asymmetric routing **** since the default route points back to our other firewall?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Isolating Two Different VLANs With Subnets On 6509E Sup 2T

Oct 1, 2012

I have a pair of Core VSS 6509E SUP 2T. Two different LANs, two diff. Subnets. larger LAN has been connected to the VSS pair usng normal SVI and Post-Channles (has lots of closets 3750 stacks) and no problem. Second LAN, two closets, stacked and connected to each other via Port channel and trunk + SVI interfaces. Now, I have SVI interfaces for both LANs on teh VSS pair and that is causing traffic from one LAN to jump over to the other VLAN and rightly so because the VSS pair see both subnets as directly connected subnets. I was wondring if I delete the SVI for the second LAN and only keep the L2 VLAN this will be resolved> The reason for the second LAN to connect to the VSs pair is only that It has to go through the VSS pair to get to the WAN router (both LANs will go out through this Same WAN router) but WAN router is not my concern at this time. I need to isolate these two LANs/subnets traffic so no one VLAM traffic jumps over the other.I have also thought about VRF but at this point I am not sure if teh 3750 stacks supports VRF and if it does how to implement VRF on the second and samller LAN to just allow it go through the VSS pair in order to get to the WAn router.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2901 - Multiple Subnets On Same Vlan Switchport?

Jun 29, 2012

I have a Cisco 2901 with the 4port gigabit ethernet switch module that I'm trying to get configured to have a seperate subnet for each port.  So far I have it set up so each subnet is a vlan, then on each port I use the switchport access vlan command to tell it which subnet I want that port to be on.  However, there is one port that I need to have 2 subnets on.  The way I found to do that was to use switchport trunking on that port, but it doesn't seem to be working properly. how they would configure this?  Right now I have vlan 101 as x.x.x.17/28 and vlan 103 as x.x.x.53/30.  I think where I'm getting hung up is the proper association between the physical port and the vlan subnets.

Cisco WAN :: Management And BITS Ports On ASR1002

Aug 30, 2011

We recently purchased a Cisco ASR1002 router with four on-board Gigabit SFP-style Ethernet ports. However, when I do a "show ip interface brief", I see that there's an extra Gigabit Ethernet port. See the last interface in the following output:

ASR_1002_router#sh ip int b
Interface                         IP-Address       OK?     Method Status          Protocol
GigabitEthernet0/0/0       unassigned      YES  manual     down                down

[Code].....

On the router itself, in addition to the four Ethernet SFP ports, there are four additional RJ-45 ports. They're labeled "BITS", "MGMT", "CON", and "AUX". I know what the Con and Aux ports are, but what are the Bits and Mgmt ports? And is one of them the Gigabit Ethernet interface that I see listed at the bottom of the output? And if it is, is there anything special about it, or is it just another routed Ethernet port? Can I do something special with it, like out-of-line managment?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 7206VXR - WCCP Redirection Of Non-directly Connected Subnets

Jul 18, 2012

I have a Cisco 7206VXR running 12.4(24)T3 IOS. It is configured with WCCPv2 using L2 mask redirection. I am using service groups and associated extended ACLs to select which subnets I want to redirect port 80 traffic from.

It is working fine for the subnet 192.168.1.0/24....

int gi0/2
ip wccp 10 redirect in
ip address 192.168.1.99 255.255.255.0

... however, there is OSPF running between the router and a Mikrotik device directly connected to this interface. The gateway addresses for all the client subnets are on the Mikrotik. Traffic from other subnets, e.g. 192.168.2.0/24, 192.168.3.0/24 come in on this interface and I want to redirect those too. But it appears that the redirection doesn't work for those subnets (I don't see any hits on the relevant ACL for any subnet except 192.168.1.0/24).

It seems like the router only wants to redirect traffic for subnets that it has an IP address in itself. Admittedly, all of the example configs i've found on cisco.com are for redirecting traffic from directly connected subnets but I can't find anything that denies thie possibility of redirecting any traffic that comes in on a given interface.

The question is, is this how WCCPv2 redirection works? i.e., the router must have an IP address in the subnet to be redirected?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Connecting 3570 Switches To Nexus 2232 To Migrate Server Subnets

Nov 17, 2011

I am in the process of migrating our existing server farm subnets to our new Nexus server farm and I discovered something I wasn’t expecting. My intention is to migrate our existing legacy server farm which is comprised of for paired 3750 switches off of our core 6509s and onto the Nexus and connect them to the 2232s via multi gig port-channel connections, two port channels per switch stack.

NOTE this is expected to be a temporary move as next year we intend to install additional N2Ks and move servers over to these directly. But to minimize the outage/downtime it will be better to move the subnets and switchs all at once.

These connections would be grouped 1 gig connections as port channels, one from each switch into one of the two 2232s.

Problem I discovered is Cisco does not intend to have switches connected to the Nexus and it immediately disables the ports when they see BPDUs.

I found a config that does work and it does fail over from one port-channel connection to the other but with the limitation that when the original port channel comes back online it does not fail back over to the original one, an acceptable situation for us. But I am wondering if Cisco would support this design if we did experience issues down the road.

The only issue I really see is to get it to work the config is different on the two N5Ks, see the pert config below for the connections. Both are running the same OS

Protocols / Routing :: Hosted VPN / IP Forwarding / Routing And Bridging?

Apr 5, 2011

I have got a PC at work (Windows XP Pro SP3) that is on two networks with the IPs 10.20.30.167, subnet 255.255.255.0 (internet enabled) and 10.0.0.20, subnet 255.255.255.0 (no internet). On the 10.0.0.X network there is a gateway with the IP 10.0.0.200 allowing access to another network; 192.168.60.X, subnet 255.255.255.0 (no internet). I have added the route on my work PC to access the 192.168.60.X network via this gateway and I can access all PCs on all three networks from this PC.Now, I am using LogMeIn Hamachi so that I can access the networks at work from home. The PC at work is the 'gateway' PC on the Hamachi network. When installing Hamachi it created a new network connection and bridged this connection with my 10.20.30.167 network adapter to allow access to the 10.20.30.X network from an external PC when connected using the Hamachi VPN connection. I have manually configured my Hamachi connection on my PC at home to the IP 10.20.30.169, subnet 255.255.255.0, with the default gateway set to 10.20.30.167. I can ping all computers on the 10.20.30.X network from my PC at home.

I then added a route on my PC at home for 10.0.0.X to go via 10.20.30.167 (the 'gateway' on the Hamachi network). I also enabled IP forwarding on the 'gateway' PC (my PC at work). I can not ping any PC on the 10.0.0.X network from my PC at home apart from 10.0.0.20 (the other NIC in the Hamachi gateway PC) and 10.0.0.30 (another PC on the 10.20.30.X network that is also on the 10.0.0.X network). Now, with IP forwarding enabled on the Hamachi gateway PC I would assume after adding the route on my PC at home for 10.0.0.X traffic to go via 10.20.30.167 that I would be able to ping all PCs on the 10.0.0.X network...I also tried adding a route on my home PC to send all traffic for the 192.168.60.X network via 10.20.30.167 which has a route via 10.0.0.200 to the 192.168.60.X network, but this also did not work.I then tried adding the 10.0.0.20 network adapter into the network bridge that the Hamachi connection made, also keeping both IPs (10.20.30.167 and 10.0.0.20) on this network bridge by adding them into the 'IP Settings' in the 'Advanced TCI/IP Settings'. I also added the 10.0.0.200 gateway for good measure. I still cannot ping any PC on the 10.0.0.X or 192.168.60.X networks from my PC at home.

I have also added the route to the 10.20.30.X network on a PC on the 10.0.0.X network to go via 10.0.0.20 and tried pinging a PC on the 10.20.30.X network but this also has not worked. Also setting the default gateway on a PC on the 10.0.0.X network to 10.0.0.20 does not allow this...Surely bridging the networks 10.20.30.167 and 10.0.0.20 on my work PC would allow another PC on the 10.0.0.X network to access the 10.20.30.X network after adding the route or setting 10.0.0.20 as the default gateway?

Linksys Wireless Adapters :: WMP300N Fixed Drivers Windows 7 32 / 64 Bits

Aug 3, 2012

who had a WMP300N with the Broadcom 4329 chip (PCIVEN_14E4&DEV_4329&SUBSYS_00601737&REV_01)Since i got my WMP300N all that i got is a really a big headache, since the drivers DOESN'T are meant for Win 7 (x86/x64), and the guys at Cisco/Linksys really are so kind to bring an unstable driver (v6.100) that they claim is for win 7.

i, as same as a ton of users, really get dissapointed because the driver in the cd does not work on win 7 and the 'official updated driver' is useless as well, and in the end lost a lot of time searching almost in the entire internet for a solution, that some pages claim to have, but the info is oudated, or the links are gone.so in a insurmountable-almost-titanic search, i somehow managed to gather all the required files that i'll put at disposition of those like me have a bad time with a supposed to be a pretty good wireless card.

1- bmc 4329 v4.100, this one is the most 'stable' and works pretty well in 32/64bits, it had a modded .inf wich enables a few features that various users will find pretty useful, when the installer prompts a warning about an unsigned driver, you had to allow the installation

2- bmc 4329 5.100, this one is working too on 32/64 bits, i'm posting it because some people got problems with the 4.100 version, however, the 5.100 is a stock unmodded driver, so maybe it will give connection issues.
