Random Connection Loss On Desktop?
Oct 25, 2011
While I am connected to the internet, whether surfing the web or playing a game, I randomly get disconnected with a "No Network Connection" error on the network access icon on my toolbar. However, other computers that are networked (both wireless and wired) do not receive a disturbance in the connection. When I refresh or look for a new connection, I continue to get the same error and the troubleshooting tools fails to find a fix. The only way this seems to fix is rebooting the computer. Sometimes it happens multiple times in a row, but consistently happens between 1-2 times a day.I don't know if this is a coincidence or not, but it seems to happen when I'm doing stuff that could "stress" the connection, like downloading something or running a game while also browsing the web[CODE]

I have recently switch internet to Time Warner. Since the day I got it, i have experienced random packet losses of 100%. I have called time warner and they are going to send a tech out. But i would like to know more about this before he comes. I have replaced the modem with a brand new one. Surfboard SB5101N from the one i was leasing from them. They both do the same thing. I have made sure all my Drivers are up to date. I have replaced the coax cable and Ethernet cable and ran my Anti Virus and Spyware program. It does it more during online game, I have reinstalled the game and was having no problems with the ATT Dsl i had before this.

For about 7/24th of the day it'll be fine. But the rest of the day it will be riddled with burst packet loss. For example when I'm pinging. It'll go "Done

Done
Done
Done
Request timed out
Timed out

Due to how it's only certain times it happens and other times it's perfect leads me to believe it's my ISP.

I have a Dell XPS 410 desktop PC purchased in 2006 now running Windows 7 (32-bit) that is hard-wired to D-Link 825 dual band N router.
The Problem- The desktop, when actively using the internet, will randomly lose connection to the Internet, then by just waiting, it re-acquires a connection. When it does this it sometimes also disconnects other laptops that are wirelessly connected through the same router, or at least slows them way down. Also similarly effects a hard-wired X-Box 360 (either loses connection all together or, the games start to severely lag) much to the disdain of my game playing kids.

I have a Windows 7 desktop (so it's NOT wireless) that is having problems with packet loss. Now, the modem is fine, I've tested 'pingtest' on some laptops and the packet loss is very minimal. I've tried reinstalling the drivers for the LAN controller, using a different ethernet cable, using the 'winsock' reset command, and I have no luck. This does effect upload times on YouTube, to where a minute long video takes an hour.

Network running about 60 computers, most of which are running windows 7 professional. Some are on a domain, some are not.At (seemingly) random times, some computer on the network will lose the ability to browse websites (including the web interfaces of networked devices). I can't identify what circumstances cause this to occur. I only find out about it when someone calls me.From the affected computer:I can ping sites I can ping our Cyberoam UTM (which acts as our DNS, DHCP, and firewall)disabling/enabling connection doesn't fix the problem releasing/renewing ip doesn't fix the problem flushing dns doesnt fix the problem uninstalled antivirus on two test machines, problem still randomly manifests.replaced the Cyberoam with newer model users have claimed that if they wait a long period of time (40+ minutes) the problem sometimes resolves.rebooting the computer resolves the issue until it randomly occurs again changing the computer's mac address also resolves the issue until it randomly occurs again.

My DIR 651 randomly drops connection, is not set for IP fragments (error on PS3 even though I set MTU), and has a flashing green globe compared to my other DLink router which has a solid green globe (replaced with DIR 651). I have BHN Road Runner Turbo (Speeds of 30mb/2mb) and my modem (supplied by ISP) is a Motorola SB5100.

I support a small business with 6 computers(XP) wired networked to a Cisco router and connected to an ADSL WAN. For over a year now they have experienced an overnight loss of Internet connectivity requiring the router to be rebooted almost every morning. We thought it was a fault router so we replaced this with a good Cisco router, but the problem persisted. We got Cisco involved and they monitored it without finding fault, but they replaced it anyway. We also replaced our ISP but all without avail. I use a combination of pc.Any where and Log mein to support them over the web. The strange thing is that I am always able to connect to their system, but when the fault is apparent, I can't get web access to their router internally or externally and they can't get Internet or e-mail access. The router is my DHCP server and each PC is DHCP mapped in it. Cisco have looked at all the settings of the router and they say they are good.

I have fiber optic Internet with static ip and keeps disconnecting at very random times. It started 3 weeks ago, before it worked perfect. Most of times dcing 3 times per hour. But sometimes working for hours without dcs. Usually disconnects only for half minutes then reconnect, it can be very annoying. The provider keep saying that need change router. I'm tried three different of routers already, but keeps disconnecting. I'm tried connect the net directly into my cpu, without router, but not worked, dc-ing too. I tried ping the default gateway when its disconnected, and its saying: request timed out. What else can i try? It should be, that the provider has too many clients, and their router collapsing?

This has been a problem for quite a while now, jumping from Shaw to Telus,I have completely exhausted, and I have no idea what's wrong.I live in a household with another family, and we share internet connections, Telus Fiber Optik, as of now. Me and my brother both have our own computer and are connected via wireless adapter, and the other family has one laptop with wireless connection.
The problem would be that randomly, the internet would slow down considerably, with pings going insanely high, like over 9000ms (not joking). At first,I thought I was just too far away from the router. So I moved to a room directly under the router, and the internet was completely fine for around 1 week, then the random ping spikes started to happen again. Now, I've tried tweaking wireless settings, and checking to make sure its just not my wireless adapter, however my brother's adapter is new, but it has the same problem too, so I doubt its the adapters fault.

We recently moved and upgraded our internet service from 1.5 Mbps to 4Mbps with CenturyLink. However, since our service was activated last Thursday, the internet connection intermittently drops and will not recover unless I reboot the modem. The period of up-time will last anywhere between fifteen seconds to several hours, usually falling along the five-to-ten minute range. No difference when using ethernet/wifi. The DSL light stays on, and the Internet light remains on as well.

I should start by saying I am no novice when it comes to networks but this router has been nothing but a issue since day one.
*The Setup - 2 wired PCS, 2 Wired Macs, 1 Wireless Iphone, 1 Wireless Ipad.
WPA2 Only / AES key, Channel 6, G/N only, Hidden SSID.
*The Problem - 95% of the time the wireless and wired is running fine. However, Sometimes randomly webpages on the computer will stop loading... but heres the kicker... other internet connected programs like Ventrilo, or torrents, or games will still be working and running from the net like there is no problem. When this happens the internet browsers on the macs and PCs will say page cannot be displayed instantly. Happens to all computers at the same time. After about 10min the webpages will load again. I have 16mbs internet and while this is happening my games and voice chat programs do not go up in ping at all.
I have turned off QoS since that made the most sence... but other then that I have no been able to figure it out. I even turned off wireless while it was happening and it still didnt fix it. A sure fire way to fix it is to restart the router.
I am 100% stumped. Do I just have a bad out of the box router? it is only 2 weeks old.

While playing the online game League of legends i suddenly lost internet connection. when loading pages some will not connect and I'll get a message saying I'm not connected and should try reloading, refreshing the page usually fixes the problem, occasionally multiple refreshes are necessary. I've never had this problem before and it's rather inconvenient for me as I need internet access for university.

I keep losing connections to the internet and getting a couple of different messages that the Gateway IP address is invalid. There are times it happens every few minutes and other times I can go for a couple of days without it. Also, we have to have satellite internet which has such an inconsistent speed. Is it the internet speed inconsistency or the 4 year old Belkin N Router?OK, so I tried to copy the information from the CMD window, but I can't get it to work. After I got the information and right clicked and clicked "select all" then what. I couldn't copy it. I can't find my way back to the instructions.

For the past day or so I have been having problems with my internet connection to my PC. It has been working fine for a few hours, then it suddenly goes down for up to 30 minutes, with sporadic (lasting about 30 seconds) reconnection during that 30 minute period.I am pretty certain this is a computer related issue (as opposed to a problem with the modem), as none of the other computers in the household. (Ihave been affected, and neither has the wifi (I have browsed on my phone while the internet on my computer was down, in fact am currently writing this post on the wifi while my computer has no access)My computers specs (Taken from the sys info program when I regained connection for a short while) [code] Steps I have already taken in an attempt to solve this problem
1. Reset modem (turned it off and back on again)
2. Ran most of a virus scan in both macafee and avg (they both got to about 85% and by that point were just scanning steam stuff
3. Talked to a verizon tech, confirmed it is most likely not a modem problem (he didnt know what the problem was however)
4. Changed out the ethernet cable, the new one works no better than the original
Additional note: Earlier today (after these problems had begun) I was downloading the latest version of hamachi from a site soft32.com when I recieved a trojan warning from macafee. I immediatly stopped the download, restarted my computer and began scanning with both AVG and Macafee, neither found anything of note (AVG found something it labeled a hidden directly, I looked it up and it seems harmless)

I've been having a number of issues with performance on my DIR-655 with streaming media, internet connection being dropped and random reboots. Over the last couple of weeks it has been getting worse, to the point where I'm about to act out the printer scene from Office Space but with my DIR-655! It has been rebooting, completely killing WiFi networks and Internet Connection, almost every 20 minutes when I'm watching DivX over the network. The relevent information about my network is as follows:
-Hardware:
-D-Link DIR-655
-Hardware Version: A3 (US) , Firmware Version: 1.34NA
As an experiment I reconfigured the DSL-380T into PPPOE mode and set the DIR-655 into DHCP Client. This was over 2 hrs ago. So far - no random reboots, no jittering on the Media Center Extender playing videos, no internet drop outs..It seems to me that the DIR-655 doesn't cope well when it has to do the PPPOE network protocol as well as the routing, WiFi and other basic functionality that it should be able to cope with.I'll leave it running as it now is and report back later, but from the dramatic change in behavior I'm hoping that I've finally cracked my perf issues with the DIR-655.

I've been having a problem for a while now wherein my internet connection seems to randomly drop for anywhere from ten seconds to a minute, then come back online. It's been doing this over the lifespan of one router, and continued into the life of this new one I have, which is a WNDR3700v3 Netgear.
I called my ISP and they fiddled around with things on my computer, but the issue is still going on. Rather than slog through another three hours with them, does anyone here have any tips for what I might look into for the cause?

I'm having some rather odd issues with my wireless connectivity. Running a draytek 2830n router. The wireless connection drops out at random sometimes, at other times it connects (shows full reception) but does allow any kind of internet connection. Plugging in by lan cable allows normal function.I have no clue whats going on but I did just notice that shutting down one of the laptops connected to the network (Dell lx502) appears to have solved the problem for the moment. I've not had a chance to test this as a long term solution. However I believe this is the only laptop with a dual band wifi card. This problem was also occurring on our previous router, a draytek 2820vn but the symptoms were a bit different and this laptop was not there at the time.Is it possible for one machine to knock out an entire wireless network? The other change I made yesterday was to activate the bind ip to mac function on the router for our new NAS as I was messing around with ftp configurations.

I have a Motorola surfboard sb5101. Provider is comcast.I have never had any problem with my equipment until now. Here is whats going on. I bought a used sb5101 a week ago so that I would not have to pay the rental fee anymore. Comcast activated it, and it worked fine for a week or two. The other night I got disconnected from XBOX live randomly in the middle of a game. Thought maybe just a hickup, no biggie. Well it happened 3 more times in a few hours, then again the next day.So thinking maybe this used modem is bad, I plugged back in the rental from comcast which I still had. Worked fine for a while, then the same thing, random dissconnects after 10 min, 30 min, 2 hrs into a game...etcOn both modems, the 1st and 4th green light are solid, the 2nd and 3rd green light are flashing when the connection from LIVE drops. So I'm starting to think know that neither of the modems are bad. I then try going directly to the modem instead of the router, never had any problems with the router but figured I try.I even went into the attic and got rid of the 4 way splitter that feeds cable into all the bedrooms and put in a 2 way instead hooking up only the cable line im using for xbox. Thought maybe the signal is getting degraded to bad, eventhough never had a problem before. So now I'm practically hooked up right to the line coming off the street, ethernet cord plugged directly into the modem, no router. Still dropping connections randomly with same 2nd and 3rd light flashing. The connection needs to be completely stable for multiple hours. Also, I called comcast when I had to reactivate the rental modem, so they did refreshed that modem and reactivate it, but still had the disconnects the next day.

Several times a day our router will lose its connection to the internet (the internet light goes off, while the wireless signal stays on). All the computers in the house lose connection to the network while this happens. It will usually happen two or more times right after each other, so the computers can re-connect for a few seconds and then the connection will drop again. Eventually, after this repeats a few times, everything returns to normal. We've tried swapping cables, microfilters and 3 different routers (though all the same model). We tried the test socket, but the same problem happens. An engineer came to test the line but said he couldn't detect any problems. We have good download/upload speeds while the router stays connected and no noise on the phone line. I'm fed up of going in circles with the ISP tech support so I came here instead...One other thing I tried was OpenDNS, but that made no difference either...
Info: The router is a ZyXEL P-660HW-T1 v3... I've tried updating the firmware on it, but it wouldn't let me... If I remember correctly the Router Configuration Interface told me I don't have permission to do that. There are four computers connected.. mine is Windows 7, I'm pretty sure 2 others are as well, and also a Macbook... There's also various stuff like an Ipad, Kindle etc., which all lose connection at the same time.

Desktop PC: Hardwired Ethernet
Laptop: Wireless
Xbox 360 (1): Ethernet
Xbox360 (2): Wireless
Networked Printer: Wireless
The hardwired connections are fine, but at random the Printer, laptop and wireless Xbox connections will drop out and i'll have to reboot the router to get it working again. Yesterday (Friday, September 21, 2012), my Internet connection started acting up. After some testing, I confirmed a very specific and baffling set of symptoms: Internet connection goes away every 25-35 minutes (I did not confirm the exact interval, but it seems to be about 30 mins.)Only some protocols are affected; HTTP*, P2P, etc. stop working; FTP, etc. continue to work When it’s stopped, cannot even ping router or cable-modem IPs or view their firmware pages Domain-names and IPs are irrelevant (for protocols that stop working, neither work, for those that still work, both work)Resetting router fixes it for another 30 minutes Keeping the connection idle or active doesn’t seem to make a difference (nor the bandwidth usage in that period)Connecting directly to cable-modem allows it to work indefinitely Disconnecting the router from the cable-modem works indefinitely (no Internet connection obviously, but can still access router IP and firmware page)Connecting the router to the cable-modem, but putting the modem on standby also works indefinitelySame problem with both a wireless laptop and wired (on any port) desktop (both Windows 7; will try to test Windows XP when possible)Nothing had changed in the days leading up to the issue. No modifications to the networking configuration or the router; there were not even any Windows updates except for an MSSE definition update.Waiting does not fix it, nor does any amount of fiddling with anything; only resetting the router fixes it for 30 minutes (resetting the cable-modem doesn't work either)if I keep pressing the standby button on the cablemodem after browsing some pages, the connection works indefinitely (If I press the button to restore the connection, browse some pages, press the button again to cut the connection, it works fine for hours and hours without issue. Only when I leave it active for a while does it finally stop. I repeated this for three days with the same results.)I tried cleaning the pins in the router’s plugs, but that didn’t work, which was not really a surprise since I was not getting a lost connection error.
Obviously my first thought was that the router was having a problem, and this is borne out by some tests. The problem is that when it drops, it is not a full drop since I can still do things like ftp ftp.mcafee.com and such which means that the connection and DNS are still working. Moreover, if it were the router, then why does it stay alive indefinitely when not connected to the cable-modem (i.e., no outside influence)?
The problem doesn't seem to be either the cable-modem nor the router, but rather an interaction between the two, like something from the outside (port scan? hacker? ISP?) that is triggering a problem in the router. I see that there have been a couple of vulnerabilities for the DI-524, but those were a while back and should be fixed since I have the last firmware for it.
I don’t think it’s my ISP (Rogers) since I have been using the router for several years without problem and can connect indefinitely when bypassing it. But I can’t rule them out since that is one of the only possible things that could have suddenly changed.
(I note that when I opened the router, I heard a very high-pitched noise from somewhere near the capacitors/ferrite ring which I don’t think I heard the last time I opened it a few years ago, but then if it were that, then why would it affect only a very small, specific set of functions?)
Update:Last week, my Internet connection dropped out for two days. I called the ISP and they had me bring the cable-modem in to be replaced. I exchanged the SB5100 for a new cable-modem that has a built-in router with wireless AP and firewall. (I left it in gateway mode instead of bridge mode.)This morning it started behaving just like the old router. Most protocols continued to work (mail, P2P, NTP, etc.) but web-browsing (HTTP) was dead; I could not even connect to the cable-router’s web-interface. I rebooted the cable-router and HTTP functionality was restored; exactly like the previous router.
I find it highly unlikely that this could be a coincidence or related to the router itself since the new one is literally brand-spanking-new (bagged, twist-ties, in a box, with that new-plastic smell, etc.), and completely different from the old one (the new one is an ISP-branded model labeled “Hitron” while the old one was a D-Link DI-524).

Region : UnitedStates
Model : TL-WR941ND
Hardware Version : V3
Firmware Version : 3.13.9 Build 120201 Rel.54965n
ISP : TDS
Currently I am using 2 WA5210Gs and a WR941ND to send my wireless connection from one home to another. The original home utilizes a TDS DSL modem/router combo. Everything works great, but then generally withing 24 hours I will randomly drop my internet connection in the second home, but the network is still up and running strong. The modem is not the problem, because I am able to grab a faint signal from the WA5210G AP connected to the modem and access the internet, and the client WA5210G AP is running at full signal. If I power down the router and restart it, the problem is fixed, but happens again within 24 hours. Originally I changed the IP on the WR941 thinking it was an IP conflict with the modem/router, but the problem occurred again. I also tried switching to unicast DHCP, but the problem still persisted. I looked for a firmware update, but couldn't find a newer version..

Having several issues w my E1200. For quite some time I have had intermittent loss of internet connection. This was somewhat true even before I got a wifi router. & it has continued. Recently it has been even worse & I'm not sure if it is my isp, my cable modem or the router. ISP came out & checked & said signals looked ok, although modem is old.Now i find out that the version of Cisco Connect that i had been using is incompatible w Mountain Lion so it won't work now. & newly downloaded dmg files say they are damaged (or that app has been modified or damaged--I'm not in a position to tell which but same results after I downloaded a 2nd time).
I have been having more frequent loss of internet connection at home. & when I click on the wifi icon to check, it shows it looking for networks. Also it has not been uncommon to see that it has switched to my guest network. Why would it switch to my guest network? What is the difference between the 2 besides the fact that I guess the guest network doesn't have access to everything on my regular network (which right now is only my iPhone, but may get wireless printer). Also when it shows the lists of networks that it "sees" my guest network does not show a padlock icon so what does that mean? It does have the default password.
Also because I had no idea that Cisco Connect was not compatible w Mountain Lion I didn't even think to check for upgrades before I upgraded to Mountain Lion & now I can't open Cisco Connect. Shows unsupoprted OS. & I'm also stalled trying to update the firmware for the router.I'm really beginning to see why it was cheaper than an Apple Airport Express. Even at a very low hourly rate, the lost time spent when this has not been working right has not been worth what I saved on the purchase price.
