View 5 RepliesI have a Linksys WRT54GL v. 1.1 that has been dropping connection speed (starts at 54mb, then drops to 48mbs, 36mbs, 28mbs, down to 1mbs) then disconnects, then reconnects at 54 mbs. After a short while, it will drop the speed again until it disconnects and reconnects again. This is the third Linksys WRT54GL that has done this. The first one was 5 years old before it started doing this in February, the second was 3 months old, and now the replacement Linksys sent to me is doing this?
What is going on with my router? I am able to connect fine with the Cat5 cable, but wireless seems to be the problem. Even my phone(s) get disconnected from the wireless router. This problem just recently started and I don't know why, no settings had been changed on any of the routers until after the problem had already ocurred, then the Linksys phone tech support had me make multiple changes.
We have 1 mpbs bandwidth line, but most of the time we are getting only 300-500 kpbs download speed, i want to send statistics report to our ISP, what will be best procedure to test the bandwidth report, i have checked in some websites like bandwidthplace and speedtest but these sites are not accurate, how to check the actual bandwidth we getting from ISP against 1 Mbps. We have solarwinds monitoring tool in this i have configured the WAN interface for 1 mbps
View 5 Replies View RelatedNoticed the last couple days that pages weren't loading on my laptop. Looked at the network status for the laptop and noticed that my network speeds would fluctuate from 54Mbps to 1Mbps, and various speeds in between. I had never had this happen before (I've had this router, a Linksys, for about 6 years). I thought maybe something was going on with the laptop. Grabbed my wife's laptop and she had the same issue. So, I checked the wired towers - their speeds are running at 100% all the time, no fluctuation. So, it has to be something with my router, but I'm not familiar with how to diagnose, etc. The router has a 3rd party firmware (DD-WRT) flashed on it, in case that matters. But I've had that on there about 4 years, nothing new. I've done a DHCP release and renew.

HOWEVER, the windows 7 laptop (on it now) is working perfectly OK!!

View 13 Replies View RelatedI recently moved to a new location and my wireless internet disconnects, literally every minute. My roommate never has any issues with his wireless connection, and this is the first time I've had connection issues with this laptop. The provider is Comcast and it runs through a hard wired/wireless modem (no antennas). Our connection is encrypted. My signal strength is always excellent, but still briefly disconnects with a continuous cycle, as it automatically reconnects.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have an issue whereby my Windows 7 (Professional 32bit) Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop is losing its ability to resolve DNS when connected wirelessly to my BT Homehub (combined ADSL modem/wireless router). I have had the same laptop and Homehub for over two years and this has only started happening in the last couple of weeks. I cannot pinpoint any h/w or s/w changes that have been made and could account for this behaviour. When the issue occurs (typically after 15-30 minutes of normal internet browsing) I can no longer view web sites or ping, for example, www.google.com. I can, however, ping the Homehub and localhost by ip address. Some other non DNS-reliant services such as Skype, email etc may continue to work also. The only way I have found to reliably regain working DNS is to restart the laptop. Other attempts, such as disabling/enabling the NIC releasing/renewing IP and flushing DNS cache have no effect.
- disabling all AV/firewall software - the problem remains.
- Several restarts and finally a full factory reset of the Homehub - no joy.
- uninstalled/reinstalled the wireless NIC (Realtek RTL8191SE) and made sure I have the latest drivers.
- Removed all other devices from the network to ensure there is no IP clash.
- Laptop rolled back to a known good restore point.
I have an XP laptop on the same wireless network that does not suffer from this issue, so I know the actual connection is not at fault. I use the Windows 7 laptop on another wirelsess network (at work) and it is rock solid for 8 hours +. So, it looks to be something specific to the combination of the BT Homehub and the Win 7 laptop.Worth noting, before anyone suggests doing so, the wired NIC on the Windows 7 laptop does not work so I am unable to connect directly to the Homehub with an Ethernet cable.By default the laptop is set to obtain its DNS servers and ip address from the Homehub via DHCP the resultant ipconfig looks like this:
C:Users
lennox>ipconfig /all
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : GLOWZ9297647K
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : internal.rmplc.net

I have att dsl and im using a linksys wireless router and lately my interenet keeps disconnecting. Specifically the little wireless icon in the bottom right of my windows 7 display gets a yellow exclamation mark for about 10-30 seconds then recconects. Its quite annoying and seems to be happening more often now. I have a strange setup on the router, i think its running in bridge mode or something and the modem is doing the actual routing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedISP : ShawPC >> SMC Modem/Router >> Netgear Router >> PS3 and Denon Stereo Receiver ( Both hardwired to Netgear Router), 2 Laptops and 2 Phones connected wireless- The reason I do not use the SMC as a router is because I was getting terrible wireless signal- When everything is working properly I am getting great speedsroblem : I keep losing internet connectivity. On the wireless devices I still have have great signal strength but no connectivity. I need to run netgear genie oripconfig/release/renew to get it back. It always comes back but this is annoying. It also does this on the PS3 and Denon which are hardwired to the router..as with the other ones if I reset the router or do a connection test on the PS3 it will fix it. Finds IP but no internet connectivity. My PC has also started to lose connectivity and I need to do a ip release/renew and it comes back fine. The fact that this is happeneing on my PC would lead me to believe that it may be an issue with the Modem/router. Are there some settings I need to change on it since I am only using it for modem purposes? I have disabled the wireless on it but I don't think that would be the issue anyways

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a HP G62 laptop and it randomly disconnects from the internet even though it still has full wireless signal. However if I turn the laptop 180 degrees or lift it above my head it will reconnect .The laptop will also only work in certain rooms of the house and not others even though it receives a similar strength signal in all of these rooms. For example it will work in my bedroom which is upstairs and on the opposite side of the house to the router but will not work in the living room (unless i hold it above my head) which is right next to the router.
A second HP laptop in the house has no problems and will remain connected no matter what room it is in and how is held. The two can be right next to each other both with full signal and one will be connected to the internet and the other wont.I have tried updating the drivers on the laptop but this has made no difference. The router is an echolife HG520b. The hp laptop which has the problem has a Broadcom 4313 network adaptor where as the laptop which works fine has a Realtek network adaptor.
I have had this problem for ages now. Every thing will be going fine for large periods of time then randomly i will stop being able to access the internet.
I have tried pinging various things such as google.com, when i do i get a range of reposnes from no packets lost, to no repsose atall. the results from the latest google ping;

My issue is that for as long as I can remember I lose connection temporarily while playing computer games online. It has plagued me through location changes, ISP changes, router changes, and modem changes. What seems to happen is the internet losing connection for a second, causing my computer to reconnect to the server, which takes a few more seconds. This happens at random, and at least twice every fourty-five minutes or so. It happens regardless of the game I'm playing (though I've only tried to recreate it with LoL and Dota 2). For those gamers out there, you can understand how frustrating this could be.I have tried both wired and wireless connection. I am running Windows 7 Studio XPS 435T/9000, and have recently replaced the graphics card

View 14 Replies View RelatedSo my boyfriend and I just moved and, after struggling with our old wireless router we haven't used in years (pretty sure it was dead), we bought a whole new one in the hopes that starting from scratch would be simpler. It's a Netgear and we were aiming to hook up three devices through it; my laptop, his computer, and our Xbox 360.
He hooked it up no problem and we were using wifi for our computers and one ethernet cable through the router into the Xbox, peach as pie... Except my Toshiba laptop decided to rebel and allow me to use the internet for about five minutes before claiming there's "no internet." The signal says excellent and the little alert symbol keeps appearing and disappearing, but no pages will load. I tried running troubleshooting, but it couldn't identify the problem. Shutting down my laptop and turning it back on seems to be the only way to get it going again for another five minutes until the cycle continues.
I've got a linksys router with two desktops running on it fulltime. One is hardwired (Win 7), the other is wireless (Vista). Normally, they have no problems with connecting. But I just got a laptop (Win 7) that is causing the whole network to go down for about 15-20 minutes then it will come back up for all my PCs but still drop out sporadically causing another 15-20 minute wait Both my desktops are unable to connect during this time. I also just got an old refurbished XP laptop from work, and it connects flawlessly. Then we had a friend come by and try to connect to our network and her laptop had the same problem.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy desktop is connected to the internet via cable modem, then to my laptop via network bridge between the LAN and wireless NIC, then through to the laptop via wireless ad hoc network.
The problem I'm having is that my laptop loses connectivity every 5 minutes, though it doesn't show a dropped connection. The desktop does not show any connections to the current network at anytime, however I still get connectivity on the laptop albeit only 5 minutes at a time.
I have, on both systems, disabled power saving for the wireless and wired connections; and also that they have the most current drivers.
It does not have to be idle to lose the connection either, I can be in the middle of something when it drops.
If have this weird problems that everytime that I try to connect on the wifi using my pc it crashes but in a weird manner.let's say i'm playing a game (heroes of newerth or dota) I can't input any command, i can't move my character and a disconnection icon is visible. However I still see everybit of action I see my teamates moves I see them die with no lag, I just can't input anything. [code]
View 13 Replies View RelatedWe have a newer linksys router supporting 4 laptops, 2 desktops, 3 iphones, an ipad, an apple tv (also a smart tv, two wifi blu-ray players, but I'm less concerned about those devices). Everything is relatively new (1-2 years old). Most everything is turned on during the day but only a few things may be in use at a time. Many of my devices are loosing connection multiple times per day, my ipad is losing connection every 15 minutes, my apple tv takes a lot of finagling to connect (my level of tech expertise is basically me power cycling everything and prayer). Once my laptops get online, they tend to stick. It seems my apple devices lose signal more frequently.I've updated the firmware on the router and played with wideband settings and channel selection and haven't noticed much difference. I do see a lot of other wifi signals around me. The constant disconnecting has been going on for a couple of months. We have Comcast/Xfinity as our cable provider on 20/MB internet.
