I have a HP G62 laptop and it randomly disconnects from the internet even though it still has full wireless signal. However if I turn the laptop 180 degrees or lift it above my head it will reconnect .The laptop will also only work in certain rooms of the house and not others even though it receives a similar strength signal in all of these rooms. For example it will work in my bedroom which is upstairs and on the opposite side of the house to the router but will not work in the living room (unless i hold it above my head) which is right next to the router.
A second HP laptop in the house has no problems and will remain connected no matter what room it is in and how is held. The two can be right next to each other both with full signal and one will be connected to the internet and the other wont.I have tried updating the drivers on the laptop but this has made no difference. The router is an echolife HG520b. The hp laptop which has the problem has a Broadcom 4313 network adaptor where as the laptop which works fine has a Realtek network adaptor.

I've been having a problem with my wifi connection.I give my neighbor $15 a month to use his connection, so I have no control over the router.I'll be surfing along or just checking mail or whatever and out of the blue my connection stops. A little yellow triangle "warning" sign covers the signal strength meter in the lower right corner. If I click on the signal meter, up pops the list of wireless connections available to me and says that I'm connected, (but I'm not). So I go to the network and sharing center and sometimes this alone will restart the signal but usually I have to run the troubleshooter and the signal will come back with no explanation of what the problem is.While in the network and sharing center, my connection to the router looks clear and connected but shows a red X over the connection between the router and Internet.

dell 1520w-win7 64 bit pro version - installed new hd. Internet connection via wireless losing signal regularly since new hard drive install.."DELL 1520 oem Broadcom Wireless not working. Tested using Win7 onboard system. Says everything was ok. Yet the wireless is not "on" on the 1520 laptop. Purchased a new one; had no OEM software. Purchased Win764 bit Pro version. Installed it; finally found the original OEM resource disk from Dell and installed it. I downloaded a later version of the driver and yet it is not working. Is there a problem created by Win7 installation? How can I wake up the wireless so it can wirelessly receive and send items to my Smart Phone."

I have an issue whereby my Windows 7 (Professional 32bit) Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop is losing its ability to resolve DNS when connected wirelessly to my BT Homehub (combined ADSL modem/wireless router). I have had the same laptop and Homehub for over two years and this has only started happening in the last couple of weeks. I cannot pinpoint any h/w or s/w changes that have been made and could account for this behaviour. When the issue occurs (typically after 15-30 minutes of normal internet browsing) I can no longer view web sites or ping, for example, www.google.com. I can, however, ping the Homehub and localhost by ip address. Some other non DNS-reliant services such as Skype, email etc may continue to work also. The only way I have found to reliably regain working DNS is to restart the laptop. Other attempts, such as disabling/enabling the NIC releasing/renewing IP and flushing DNS cache have no effect.
- disabling all AV/firewall software - the problem remains.
- Several restarts and finally a full factory reset of the Homehub - no joy.
- uninstalled/reinstalled the wireless NIC (Realtek RTL8191SE) and made sure I have the latest drivers.
- Removed all other devices from the network to ensure there is no IP clash.
- Laptop rolled back to a known good restore point.
I have an XP laptop on the same wireless network that does not suffer from this issue, so I know the actual connection is not at fault. I use the Windows 7 laptop on another wirelsess network (at work) and it is rock solid for 8 hours +. So, it looks to be something specific to the combination of the BT Homehub and the Win 7 laptop.Worth noting, before anyone suggests doing so, the wired NIC on the Windows 7 laptop does not work so I am unable to connect directly to the Homehub with an Ethernet cable.By default the laptop is set to obtain its DNS servers and ip address from the Homehub via DHCP the resultant ipconfig looks like this:
C:Users
lennox>ipconfig /all
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : GLOWZ9297647K
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : internal.rmplc.net
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid

So my boyfriend and I just moved and, after struggling with our old wireless router we haven't used in years (pretty sure it was dead), we bought a whole new one in the hopes that starting from scratch would be simpler. It's a Netgear and we were aiming to hook up three devices through it; my laptop, his computer, and our Xbox 360.
He hooked it up no problem and we were using wifi for our computers and one ethernet cable through the router into the Xbox, peach as pie... Except my Toshiba laptop decided to rebel and allow me to use the internet for about five minutes before claiming there's "no internet." The signal says excellent and the little alert symbol keeps appearing and disappearing, but no pages will load. I tried running troubleshooting, but it couldn't identify the problem. Shutting down my laptop and turning it back on seems to be the only way to get it going again for another five minutes until the cycle continues.

I'm having a problem with my wireless connection. Every so often my wireless signal, showing a red cross next to the wireless bar, or it will lose the original connection on the available network lists after disconnecting. Every time it does so I've found that sending my computer to sleep and waking it up again solves the problem (I can reconnect to my original network). However, this is very annoying, as it some times happens every 5 minutes, and some times only every 2 hours.I have tried unticking the box on my network adapter with 'Turn off to save power', but this hasn't worked.

They all connect and the signal never gets interupted, but when I use my gateway laptop with in a few minutes the I start losing signal randomly. It does lock back on but usually continues to in and out.

when I log onto the PC, I have to reset the local network adapter in order to go online - it solves the problem every time. The real issue is with the laptop. It keeps dropping connection and, even when it shows up with a full signal, it can't connect to the internet and, when it does, it's really, really slow. I've tried resetting the IP address, I've gone in to make sure the network isn't hidden, I've checked the WEP key, I've even had it right next to the pc (which works only marginally, occasionally). We can't afford to buy another new laptop and I can't work out what the problem is.

For some reason the laptop my friend brought over is not connecting to the internet and has had a problem connecting to the internet for awhile apparently. At first i thought it was just because his mom accidently hit the hotkey to turn off the wifi so i turned it back on and it still will not connect to the internet. The Mac and the PC i am using to write in this forum work just fine as well as the xbox.

Only I have encountered this problem with my Philips 6356 router. I have spent 2.5 hours on the phone to Samsung and to the tech support from the store I bought it from and no one seems to be able to give me a definitive resolution! I can only assume the router is not compatible with the wifi connector in the laptop.

I have an older Inspiron 8200 with XP I'm trying to fix up. I added an internal 802.11g card and it connects to my wireless network just fine. For some reason the connection only stays open for about 10 minutes or less and then it disconnects. If I try to reconnect to my network it works, and then the same thing happens again.
It doesn't do this when I plug it into a wired LAN. It does do the same thing when I try to use a wireless USB or PC card adapter.
why it keeps dropping the connection? And why it won't automatically re-connect? The laptop is very near to my router so I know I'm getting a good signal. Other laptops work fine with the router.

My router was unpluged twice and then when I plugged it in the third time my laptop won't connect the the wireless network. I could see the network with great signal on the connection list, but when I tried connect to it, it said: "Windows was unable to connect to XXX. My WRT120N drops signal to Laptop occasionally and I do not understand why. I tried to update the firmware, version 1.0 to 1.0.04, is that a newer version? My next step is to try to update the drivers in the laptop. The dropped signal seems random and only happens with the laptop. Other devices connected work fine.

it might be good to point out first that this was never a problem before i began fixing a completely irrelevant problem (screen broke) with my laptop, which took around three weeks. i could at that time use the internet a couple of rooms away from the router just fine, but now it's a no-go. .
the model is WRT54G, and the serial number is CDFD1F9CJ507.

A few days ago I received my DIR-655 I ordered off Amazon and hooked it up. There were no problems the first day after initial setup. The next day I noticed that I was losing internet connection even though the wifi indicator on my laptop said otherwise. This happens for about 5 minutes at a time and on other devices such as my desktop and my iPad. And I hopped on Call of Duty last night and played a competition with some friends and gave everyone 4bar connection. Later that night, I was playing some more and people that connected to me received 1bar connection and I got that in return on their connection. I feel that the router isn't working with my devices right?

I checked the properties of the network connected it remains on the same channel when it reconnects so I figure it's not a channel issue.I have reviewed this forum for hours and have made many changes to my settings, but nothing seems to keep the wireless signal from stopping.

I've just bought a new Samsung 3 series laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit). I have two braodband lines at my home (1: Sky with standard Sky wireless router. 2: BT with Netgear wireless router). The Netgear router is primarily used for business but I also use it to connect with my old Dell laptop and my iPad. However I cant seem to connect with my new Samsung laptop to the Netgear router. I want to get rid of the Sky broadband line but neet to get the Netgear line working correctly first. If i turn the Netgear router off and then on again the laptop can see the router and picks up the wireless signal and connects for a few minutes before it drops off and then it can find it again. The laptop does similar with the Sky router except that the connection seems to last longer before it drops off and at least it can always see the Sky wireless signal for me to reconnect again.
