Router Drops Internet Connection
Apr 5, 2013
My router drops my internet connection at least once a day. When the router does this, my wireless network connection disappears from the network list. I have to disconnect router from plug and plug it back in to work again. If I hard-wire laptop to router or modem, I still do not get internet unless I unplug and re-plug router.

Ive had the WRT160Nv3 for a while and its all been great but recently ive had some issues.Im not sure if this is my ISP but the connection to the router drops out or i lose connection to the internet.I thought the firmware was out of date so i updated to 3.03 from 3.02 and it doesnt seem to fix the problem. what it did was create new problem. now when you edit settings it says >> JAVASCRIPT; true or if i try to edit port forwording it wont save the data i enter. This was all brought to my attention when I tried to connect to my wireless and my SSID was not what i set it as, the router had some way been reset. could something of happened to the router for it to be acting all crazy.

Wired computer runs XP sp3. Wireless runs Ubuntu 10.04. Hooked to Embarq DSL modem. Setup worked flawlessly for a year or more. Now the router is sporadically dropping the internet connection for both PCs. I haven't discovered how to guarantee an immediate reconnection so the desktop is now connected directly to the modem. The modem is apparently stable as I'm not losing the internet connection. When the router is in the circuit, the internet connection may or may not appear shortly.

I'm using a SMC2804WBRP-G router connected to my ADSL-modem. Usually there are two computers connected to this router: a win7 ultimate desktop(wired) and a macbook air (wireless). Both working absolutely fine and never caused any connection drops as far as I know.
A new room mate moved in last month and each time she starts up her win7 home laptop the router looses the internet connection. The laptop is on a wired connection.
The first time she connected to my router, the connection dropped every 2 mins. To find out whats wrong with her machine I disabled all unnecessary services etc. besides the anti virus software. That worked to eliminate almost all of those periodic connection drops. But the start up drop remained and I've got the feeling that the router is still loosing connection from time to time.

I have a brand new E4200 with two desktop computers using it with no problems. I also have a work Thinkpad laptop that I use a couple of times a week from home. Since day one of installing the new router, I have experienced the blue screen of death numerous times during the day (the number of times varies from 1 to 6 on a really bad day). I believe this is happening when I lose my connection to the router. I can see it trying to reestablish itself but the VPN will drop the connrection before it has a chance. I never lost my VPN connection until the day I installed the new router. Yesterday, at least one time it was unable to reestablish connectivity with the router and I had to reboot the laptop to get it connected. Could this have something to do with the IP address? I do not have any issues with the laptop when I am at work using a docking station.
So, I am wondering why I am constantly losing connectivity on the laptop only. The laptop has Windows XP and I am using AT&T Global Network Client to access the work network. Is there a setting somewhere that will fix this? Our IT folks rebuilt my laptop and I am still experiencing the same problem. I checked and I have the current version of the firmware for the router.

I have an E2500 with the latest firmware upgrade (1.0.03). My configuration is simple, I have a fixed IP from my ISP with fixed DNS servers. I have one computer connected via cable and one connected via wireless and a laptop that gets connected on occasion wirelessly as well. I also have an android phone that I sometimes have the networking turned on and sometimes not. That doesn't seem to be affecting the router either as I've lost connections under both circumstances. The only thing I have different is I clone the MAC address as the ISP has my IP linked to my old Linksys MAC.
The problem is I randomly lose connection to the internet, the home network is still up it's just the internet goes down. I could be on the computer or not, sometimes while browsing sometimes after I browse for a while sometimes before I get started. Fortunately its not happened during one of my online games but it has happened just after I log off the game. It usually happens a couple of times a day.

I'm using a refurbished E4200 that's connected to a SpeedStream 5360 modem to establish an Internet Connection over PPoE (ATT DSL). Connected to Ethernet ports I also have a NAS and an Airtport Express (with wireless off - it's only there for AirTunes/AirPlay).I'm getting Internet drop offs and then completely lose the WiFi, about every other day.E4200 drops Interaction Connection (PPoE)

my E2500 drops the internet connection randomly. I have no issues with wired or wireless access to the home network (sharing files, sharing printers etc...). To fix the problem I log into the router and do a soft reboot from the status page.
I posted this earlier and the only response I received was a cut and paste answer to make some changes to my wireless settings. Seriously doubting the relevance of the post I made the changes anyway and as expected nothing changed, the router still loses access to the internet without any warning. When I replied that I hadn't thought that that was the problem but that I HAD made the changes mentioned and as I expected it DIDN'T work I get no response.

Immediately after a power outage, my internet connection predictably drops after a set period of time or usage. It is either after about 30 min or 5-15 mins of watching Netflix. I have a modem hooked up to a wireless router and use the network on my iPhone, laptop and Roku. Since the problem, I have dropped to just having my laptop connected but this has not worked. The wireless network will disappear after the 5 - 20 mins, the light on the modem and router will show no internet (all other lights are normal). Internet connection will be reestablished if I either unplug both the modem and the router (not just one or the other) OR if I unplug the ethernet line from the modem to the router and plug it directly into my laptop (the internet light on the modem will go from "off" to "on"). Despite internet connection working from transferring from the router to the laptop if I connect it back to the router, the internet lights goes off again (resolves upon unplugging and plugging modem and router back in). The internet has not yet dropped when it is physically plugged into my laptop.
I have tried the following:
-Powercycling (temp fix until it crashes again)
-Plugging into a different outlet (I cannot connect it to a different phone line, only have 1 with DSL. Also, I do not have phone service or cable, just internet via DSL)
-Resetting modem
-Resetting 2 different routers
-Calling ISP, their test of the modem was inconclusive
Again, my wifi does not see my network whenever the internet is dropped or the ethernet cord is unplugged from the modem. The outlets I have it plugged into has some type of electrical issue, two electrical devices have shorted out in the room they are in. I do not think this issue is electrical, everything seems to have constant power (unless the power outage shorted out something in the modem). Below are some details of my modem and router. I will provide any additional info requested. I will gladly buy a new modem but I want to see if it can be fixed first.
My modem: Westell
WireSpeed Dual Connect
Model: A90-210030-04
DSL Statistics
Line State: Up
Modulation: G.DMT-Mode
Data Path: Interleaved
[code].....
Router: Linksys E2000 Internet Connection Type: Automatic Config - DHCP (I tried PPPoE and it never got a valid IP address from my ISP)

Just starting a couple of days ago my internet started dropping about every 10-20 minutes. The problem is only with this computer. I have a laptop right next to me and it works fine no problem and two other PCs that don't have any issues so I don't think it is the router. I have scanned my computer with different antivirus software and it's clean. The computer is always connected with a full 5 bars and says it has internet access but sometimes it drops and in order to get it up and running again I unplug the wireless adapter and plug it in again. At first I thought it might have been the adapter so I swapped it out for a new one and I'm still having the same problems. My wireless is unencrypted. This keeps happening over and over again and I am stumped on what to do.

My wired/wireless internet connection drops every 15-20 minutes for a few seconds at a time. I have a Cisco Linksys E2500 which is bridged to a actiontec mi424wr router (Verizon Fios router). My fiance's computer is wired while my laptop is wireless. When I originally set up the network I had 2 mi424wr bridged together but it dropped very frequently. Switching the router and upgrading the firmware has made in happen less but it is still frequent enough to warrant trouble.

New laptop, connected to my home network which is very stable and has no history of connection issues. After about 10 seconds the laptop drops the connection. Sometimes it'll come back for a while sometimes not, haven't observed any pattern in this yet, All I've done since starting the computer for the first time is installed all the junk that comes with it (Nero stuff mostly) and installed all windows updates (there were over 60 of them) and AVG Free edition. Before doing all that the connection was still not right but it did hold for a lot longer than 10 seconds. It held for over an hour downloading programs like Itunes, AVG and Firefox, Going to control panel > network sharing centre when the connection is down I see the yellow exclamation mark between my computer and my network. Troubleshooting this resets the network adapter, gives me the error 'The default gateway is not available' and says that it is fixed. The connection then works again for about 10 seconds and drops once more.

I just got a our internet going through our phone modem instead of a separate modem, a new router, and some new rewiring because lighting hit near my house and blew out everything, but now on the computer I built my internet connection drops really low randomly and nothing loads. It happens at random times and for a random periods of time. I ran malwarebytes and super antispyware and nothing showed up. I connect wirelessly with a asus usb adapter.I also tried a different usb adapter that I just bought and no change, and I tried changing channels on the router. Also we have three other laptops in the house and none of them are having problems. It shows me connected with five bars and good signal it just drops to almost nothing speeds.

no matter what device is used to connect to our Linksys WRY54G v2.0 Router, whether it be CAT6, internal wireless card (Intel Wireless LAN (802.11a/b/g/n), or USB wireless card (Linksys AE1000), she drops connections at random and frequent times and has to disconnect the device and reconnect to get internet back. She is still connected to the network though. The issue has been becoming more and more frequent the past few days and has been ongoing for a few months. We are at wits end with the issue. I looked on Linksys' website for updated firmware for the router AND the AE1000, no new firmware and same driver that is installed for the AE1000. We have tried to enable Multimedia Environment, Disable 802.11, unchecked "Automatically turn off device to save power", changed router channels from 6 to 1, have uninstalled ALL third party firewalls and AV/Spyware/Malware/Adware removal programs (but not before scanning the system), and lastly tried the DHCP Braodcast Flag Fix.

I have 2 routers the first is plugged into the telephone line and has a power-line adapter plugged into it the second router which is downstairs is just to extend the range, unfortunately I have a very poor connection (wireless) and internet often drops out. I want to reset the power-line adapter but but will this mean that the connection will be lost from the second router and it is just my computer that is wrong? My trouble is that I don't think the power-line adapter is working but it might be or... its just that the they both connect between each other wirelessly? Or do they both connect to each other wirelessly? both connections from each router are pretty poor. I have updated my wireless card as well. I am not resetting the power line adapter until I know the internet is going to be fine afterwards as my Dad needs it for his work

So I have a DIR-655 and my internet connection drops every day. I have replaced the DIR-655 with a linksys just to try it and it works fine. This has happened with more than 1 of these 655''s. Also I have clients calling saying the wireless drops and it will not let them reconnect until I reboot the router. I have updated to the newest firmware with the same issues. I know its not bad cause I have more than 1 655 doing the same thing at a different location as well.

Sothe Internet connection that we have in the office is 22 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up. So, when I connect my computer directly to the cable modem, I get exactly that! But, when I connect the router and connect to the router, the connection drops to 7 down and 4 up. Why?
We have an Adtran NetVanta ...Replace the router? Or, get a different LAN module for the back of the NetVanta?

For a long time now whenever my home phone is answered my internet connection drops, it happened on my lenovo z575 laptop and i recently built a pc and now use a netgear n-300 wireless adapter and it still happens. I have BT infinity fibre optic broadband and previously had aol broadband and the problem happened with both providers. I was told by bt that it was the wireless adapter in my laptop that was not compatible with the router but that was clearly not correct. The internet drops when the phone is answered and sometimes when it is put back in the holder and sometimes just when it is rung.

Not just for the game but for everything. When I used windows troubleshoot it had these errors."the connection between your access point router or cable modem and the internet is broken default gateway is not available: detected" and"the default gateway is not available:fixed"After I do that I have a connection again but the same thing happens when I play another game.I have tried updating my drivers, scanning for malware of all sorts, registry cleaning, and I even reformatted.

I upgraded then downgraded from 2.00 to 2.03 back down to 2.00, and whenever I'm doing about 600kB/s+ it resets itself. Drops connection drops wireless, wired, and the globe internet icon goes Lambert/orange. I've reset the router to default and it still does that. What could be the cause?
I've done a lot of changing around, disabling unicast, changing from WPA Auto to WPA2, etc etc, I just changed the router to Netgear WGR614 v7 and it works perfectly fine now.

From time to time, when I wake up an specific station from sleep mode, the router loses its connection with Internet. It still has the line synced, but there is no Internet connection.I still can access the router through browser though. If I hit "connect" to establish a manual connection, it does not work. I have to switch the router off and on and wait for the whole process of syncing and connection, then I have Internet again.
I thought this could be something on that PC (old XP) sending some weird packet to router when I wake it up, but I tried with a newer PC (Win 7 64 bits) and the same problem persists. Also, this only happens when I wake up the PC. If it is off and I turn on, or if I restart, the problem does not happen.
The router (WAG120N) has an old firmware version (V1.00.12) because the latest available is buggy and had some problem with my ISP (limiting the bandwidth). However, I have this firmware for like 6 months and the problem only started 2 months ago.

For eight months we have not had any problems with our new WRVS4400N (V2.0.2.1) connected to a Verizon/Westell 6500 to provide DSL internet for our network with DHCP on our server... No changes have been made to the router or modem since initial setup; but, then it started -- Our internet connection would drop intermittently. Sometimes every 5 or 10 minutes - sometimes every hour. Verizon has tested the lines which came up ok, then they sent a tech who changed the wire pair coming into the building for the DSL line and retested the lines which again came up ok, then they provided us with a new modem (now a Verizon/Westell 7500). After all that, the DSL still connects then disconnects intermittently. I am now wondering if the issue lies with the WRVS4400N.

Additionally, I cannot access my modem's status page [URL]. It's as if I'm trying to access a site that doesn't exist. Comcast sent a tech who replaced a splitter, but that didn't work.

ISP: RCN Type: Cable Security: None, had Microsoft Security Essentials running but uninstalled that to see if it was causing an error. Basic Windows Firewall is enabled (although have tested without)
The problem I'm having is the internet on my HP Pavilion Elite HPE-580t PC will drop for these short 10-30 second bursts. After the drop it will automatically start working again. This happens with all programs I'm running on the computer. The odd thing is that it's in a way random. Sometimes I won't get these drops for 30 minutes but then I'll get them every couple minutes.
I've been trying to pinpoint the problem but haven't come up with anything. I tried plugging the computer directly into the cable modem and still had a problem (which I assume ruled out the router as a problem). It also would seem to rule out this being strictly a wireless issue. I removed antivirus (Microsoft Security Essentials) and have tweaked with turning off the firewall completely. I've tweaked the power saving settings to make sure the adapters are not turning off. Even went as far as blanking the hard drive and re-installing the factory settings.
It's worth noting that I have no problems with other devices online. I have a laptop (uses XP) that uses both wireless and a direct connection to the router without issues. An iPad and Xbox 360 has had no drops when in use. This issue only happens with the desktop. The only difference in this device is it uses Windows 7.It doesn't appear to be the ISP (unless there is something they would do to cause issues with Windows 7) and the issue happens regardless of the router being used or not. It doesn't appear to be the wireless card since it still had issues plugged in. So I feel like it has to be either some setting on Windows 7 or some other hardware issue (Motherboard?).

I have a PC upstairs, let's call it (Peter-PC), my dad has a PC downstairs (Kris-PC) and I just setup a linux home server downstairs as well called (server). Now, Peter-PC is connected through Linksys powerline adapters to the router, and server and Kris-PC are connected directly to the router as well.Peter-PC stays constantly connected to the internet, only until Kris-PC is turned on, then Peter-PC connection goes mental and begins to disconnect, reconnect, can't ping the router. As soon as Kris-PC is turned off,Peter-PC is back to normal. However, if Kris-PC and server are both on, they both operate fine. Seems like Peter-PC is the only unfortunate one.I mean the powerline adapters have been working for over 3 years now, and the Powerline light is flashing meaning they are communicating, I highly doubt it's the adapters.
