Security / Firewalls :: VPN To A Remote Office With An Existing VPN Tunnel?
May 23, 2011
I have an existing VPN tunnel from my branch office to corporate.I want to allow my employees to establish a VPN connection to our local branch office where we have a local server, and not go through the corporate office. Can I set up a direct VPN connection to my router/ firewall at the branch office, even when there is a VPN tunnel already connected between my office and corporate?

I can't seem to figure out which one I should go for. I'm thinking Kaspersky would have greater security but I'm not familiar with AVG's server level security.I don't need all the bells and whistles such as file encryption or password storage. I'm simply after a really strong AV for the server. Another one is VIPRE although I've heard it can take a while to configure it unlike Kaspersky which is pretty straight forward.

Seems the routing is not really working through the VPN Tunnel.

I have a customer with active/standby on a pair of 5510's with the CSC modules. They were inquiring about the AIP/ASA, and since this would NOT work in their current setup, would getting a pair of 5510/AIP configured for transparent failover work placed in front fo the existing units? Would I need to have a switch placed between the AIP and CSC ASA's? Or would I setup the ASA's for context based Active/Active failover to interconnect the ASA's to the existing units, but I still see a need for a switch.

I was at my computer when the desktop appearance and taskbar changed. I immediately opened task manager to see what program might have caused this and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Then about 2 minutes later my desktop changed back to what it normally is. I then went and disabled remote desktop connections... I think that someone may have accessed my pc remotely, buy I wasn't able to catch them at it. Is there any way to review incoming remote desktop connections historically?

I'm new to IT, and have been put in charge of managing our servers hile my boss is on vacation. We currently have a Sonicwall Network Security Appliance that handles our Firewall/VPN and have web content filtering set in place.I have a user who belongs to 2 CFS policy groups that we have set up. I've double checked with Active Directory, and he is a member of both groups.
This person SHOULD have access to Job searches/ and Restaurants, but receives a "content blocked" message on his browser. It appears to me that the settings in Sonicwall are correct, as well with AD member groups.

since a few days I'm trying to solve a problem. I've successfully established an IPSec tunnel between two local LANs. In the main office I'm working with a ASA5510 CLI 8.4 and a static public IP address. The branches are using different Cisco 8xx routers and dynamic public IP address. The following picture shows the current configuration:As I mentioned an IPSec Tunnel between the main office "Intern"-LAN 192.168.1.0/24 and an outside LAN 10.10.0.0/24 is successfully established. Now there is a new intern "Admin"-LAN 192.168.2.0/24 at the main office. The users from the outside LAN 10.10.0.0/24 need the possibility to reach this new intern "Admin"-LAN.Can I simply route the traffic from 10.10.0.0/24 to 192.168.2.0/24 via the existing IPSec-Tunnel? Or need I a new IPSec tunnel between the outside 10.10.0.0/24 LAN and the new "Admin"-LAN 192.168.2.0/24?

Where do we need to add the new vlan to in ASDM interface? Looking through using ASDM, I found 3 places.
Site-to-Site VPN:
1) Connection profiles
2) Advanced > crypto maps
3) ACL Manager

I have configured a site to site VPN tunnel using my Cisco ISR 891 router. The tunnel connects between my network 10.88.10.0 to the remote network 10.210.65.0. When I ping the remote nnetwork my VPN tunnel comes up and all is well.
I have recently connected a second network to my 10.88.... network. The new local network is 192.168.0.0. I have now managed to get the two local networks pinging each other. I can also carry out RDP sessions between systems on both networks. Hence I am happy that both networks are communicating.
I used the Fastethernet Port 8 on my ISR 891 to physically connect to the new 192.168 network and then entered the appropraite 'Static Routes' on the 192.168 exisiting router(Netgear Router). Hence certain traffic arriving at the netgear will now be forwarded to Port FE8 on the cisco ISR 891.. See FE8 Port config at the bottom of this post. I have used tracert to ensure that the traffic does arrive at Port FE8,(192.168.0.235).
I cannot seem to ping any device on the remote 10.210.65.0 network from the 192.168 network. However, as stated above I can sucessfully ping the same remote device from the local 10.88 network. I must be missing something that allows the 192.168 traffic to use the existing VPN tunnel. I have added the following command to the IpSec rules for the VPN tunnel using the Cisco Configuration Professionla tool.
Permit 192.168.0.0/0.0.0.255 10.210.0.0/0.0.255.255 ip

We have a Cisco 3845 router for Site 2 Site VPN tunnels to external business partners. The IOS is (C3845-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.4(15)T8.One of our partners is doing a DR test and needs to have us swing the VPN traffic to another peer in a test location temporarily. I plan on adding the test hosts to our existing encryption ACL, but instead of building another crypto map, I was wondering if I can add a secondary peer to the existing one?

I just joined this company and they already ad a VPN to one of their partners that provides them access to some resources. We have now added a 2nd location but the partner wouldnt allow a 2nd VPN tunnel so the decision was made to give the new location a ASA5505 to tunnel thru the main office to access the resources at the partners site.Using ASDM i believe i was able to setup the tunnel to the main office but there is no resource there to use. Now i'm stuck and i do not know what to do to get to the partner site

I'm using a RV082 with latest firmware v4.0.4.02tm in one of our branch offices. Sometimes the tunnel to the main office (IPCOP 1.4.21) fails.
Both sides display the status "tunnel connected" but IP traffic doesn't go through. If i try to ping the main office using the RV082 diagnostic feature, the RV082 seems to run into a loop...the window continues refreshing without any error message and i'm not able to cancel the test. If I restart the RV082 using the web interface, the "diagnose" and VPN problem still exists, even if the web interface told me that the device did a restart.
The only solution is to to a cold restart of the RV082. After that, the VPN tunnel works again....
This problem occurred 3 times in the last 3 weeks. I never hat this problem with previous firmware versions at this ot other sites.

Equipment Cisco1921, HWIC-1ADSL, 2 x GB Ethernet interfaces (Only one used for local LAN) Software IOS Version 15.1(1)T2..I have been asked to configure this router to provide an IPSEC tunnel back to our central office. We have been provided with an ADSL business class 7MB service from Telecom Italia, they have presented the circuit to our office with no terminating equipment (wires only). Telecom Italia have provided us with some IP addressing information as follows (I will not disclose the entire IP address) [code]
I can see that the packet count is increasing both inbound and outbound on the ATM interface. I have read many documents and tried many different way to try and get this resolved, I even logged a call with Cisco but no dice.

We have a WAP2000 that supports a few wireless users in a shop environment. Users authenticate using RADIUS. Users connect without issue and can browse the Internet.
The main local network uses a Cisco 800 router to connect to the Internet via DSL and there is an IPsec VPN tunnel to our main office.
When a user is connected to the network via a wired connection, all systems work as expected. If they are on wireless, they cannot connect to services at the main office. They must make a PPTP VPN connection for applications to function.
The WAP2000 has the latest firmware 2.0.4.0. It has a static IP on the local subnet.

I am attempting to get a solid setup for a remote office we have going up and I am running into little issues that I cant seem to get around.
Basically, we have a remote office that will have dual ISPs, one hard wired circuit from a local carrier and the other will be a Verizon 4G router that plugs in via Ethernet and hands out DHCP to my Cisco router. The Cisco router is a 2911 with IP SLA configured. I have it setup to ping my DC out one interface and if that fails, it removes the default route and injects a new default route from the other ISP,
The problem I am having is with the VPN. I figured using EZVPN would be the only solution because the Verizon 4G only supports DHCP so I have to be able to connect from a dynamic remote host. The other caveat is that failover needs to be seamless as we have no person onsite that can troubleshoot. Its fine if it takes a few minutes, but the VPN just needs to come back up on its own without any intervention.
I attempted to setup two different EZVPN crypto maps on the router but realized you can only have one inside cryptomap per interface, which would cause a problem with the internal network. I thought I could just create subinterfaces off the router to have two inside interfaces to work with but that wouldnt have supported because they would now be on different subnets.
I decided that adding an ASA5505 behind the router may be the simplest solution. Use the router only for the purpose of handling routing between the two ISPs and performing NAT out the interfaces. Then use the ASA to do EZVPN from. This works well but there are some issues I am trying to work through.
First, when the ISP fails over to the backup, the NAT translations have to timeout before things start working again. For a constant ping, this is fine, I have the timers set down to 15 seconds for NAT timeouts and after 15 seconds the ping picks right back up again. However, this breaks the EZVPN. The ASA keeps trying to bring up the ISAKMP nearly every second, which keeps resetting the countdown on the NAT timeout for the remote EZVPN server. Because of this, the VPN will never come up until I manually clear the NAT translations on the router. So my first question is this; is there a way to adjust the timer that the VPN uses to try to bring the tunnel up? I tried the crypto isakmp keepalive command but that didnt work, it looks like it doesnt work with EZVPN.
The second issue is really with the IP SLA and is only an issue because of the first issue I mentioned. When the router first comes up after a reboot, both the primary and secondary interfaces come up. However, since the primary default route is only injected into the routing table once IP SLA is up and can reach its destination, the secondary route gets injected initially and the VPN comes up over the secondary ISP. In a few seconds, the primary default route is injected, changes the path and because of the NAT translation, breaks the tunnel and never comes up again because of the first issue with the VPN tunnel renewing the NAT translation continuously.
I could easily go out and purchase a $100 Linksys router that will do the failover and clear its NATs and everything, but I need better reliability out of the hardware than that. There has got to be a way to do this on a Cisco device since consumer level equipment can.

I opened my iTunes program today and noticed a roommate's MP3 files were picked up on my network. I think the name of the program is Rocket Tube MP3. Anyway, I came on here because our computers use a Wi-Fi internet connection and I was wondering how much of my web activity (history, cookies, temporary files, etc) he could see from my laptop if his computer was a desktop downstairs. He's very tech-savvy (a former IT guy) and I don't want him snooping through my personal records.

We are a non-profit organization that is heavily reliant on interns that use their own laptops a lot here. My concern is they come in and connect to our wireless network with no supervision or anything else. I am worried they will introduce a virus, trojan, or something to our network. What the best way to keep them from introducing unwanted malware from a thumb drive, virus in email, or something to that effect shy of standing over them while they install and run an antivirus software?

I am looking for some resources on what steps would be involved in configuring a Cisco ASA 5500 when obtaining a new ISP. Since our static IP will be changing with the new ISP, just need to know what configurations changes will need to take place. We currently have a working config with DSL, but are switching to cable. We are using a DMZ configuration, and are going to try using ASDM first since that should be easier
