Cisco WAN :: 1921 Provide IPSEC Tunnel Back To Central Office
May 5, 2011
Equipment Cisco1921, HWIC-1ADSL, 2 x GB Ethernet interfaces (Only one used for local LAN) Software IOS Version 15.1(1)T2..I have been asked to configure this router to provide an IPSEC tunnel back to our central office. We have been provided with an ADSL business class 7MB service from Telecom Italia, they have presented the circuit to our office with no terminating equipment (wires only). Telecom Italia have provided us with some IP addressing information as follows (I will not disclose the entire IP address) [code]
I can see that the packet count is increasing both inbound and outbound on the ATM interface. I have read many documents and tried many different way to try and get this resolved, I even logged a call with Cisco but no dice.
I've been trying to set up my new Cisco 1921 Router to provide internet access to my local network but with no success. I've been reading guides and looking at videos and I have to be missing something becaouse I can't access internet (ping/tracert) from my local network.
The DHCP server works fine and the clients on my local network gets ip-adresses from the router but can't ping or tracert outside the local network.
I have a 1921 router with two wan interface configured, one is primary and the other is standby or backup in case the primary goes down, I was able to configure links to failover from primary to backup once there primary is down, but how do I configure to make sure when primary is up it failbak to to it. [code]
I have a couple a questions answers on which i cant google for a period. BTW maybe i simly use wrong aproach to choose keywords.
1) Is it possible to assign same ip address to the same client each time it authenticated, preferably without using DHCP? Im definely sure that it possible but cant find corresponded configuration examples (my device is Cisco 1921 with IOS 15.0.1).
2) Is it possible to assign dynamic crypto map to loopback interface (the purpose to make EASY VPN Server accessible through two interfaces - maybe you recommend other approach instead?) - as i move workingcrypto map from phy int to loopback - i cant connect with reason "Phace1 SA policy proposal not accepted"
I'm in process of purchasing a new Cisco routers for our branches that will be used primary to enable IPSec virtual tunnel interfce with "tunnel mode ipsec ipv4". does the default IOS IP Base supports this feature? or i need to purchase DATA license or SECURITY license?
I am trying to configure an IPSEC tunnel on a 1921 router. What I hope to accomplish is that using a IP SLA that the IPSEC tunnel will only be brought up IF the normal WAN connection is not responding. My thoughts were to route the traffic that needed to come back to corporate through a loopback interface but I havent found a way to do that.
I just joined this company and they already ad a VPN to one of their partners that provides them access to some resources. We have now added a 2nd location but the partner wouldnt allow a 2nd VPN tunnel so the decision was made to give the new location a ASA5505 to tunnel thru the main office to access the resources at the partners site.Using ASDM i believe i was able to setup the tunnel to the main office but there is no resource there to use. Now i'm stuck and i do not know what to do to get to the partner site
I have two ASA 5520 units, both running version 8.3(2) code. Among many other uses, they have an IPSec tunnel between them to link office 1 and office 3 together. Office 2 does exist, and is connected to a different port on the ASA in office 3; there is no IPSec involved with office 3.
we use the Cisco VPN-Client to connect to our CISCO1921 Router and want to go out again on the same interface to the internet. We configured the connection with the IOS scurity package, have no split tunneling - so the client is forced with it's default gateway to our router - we also have pushed our local dns-server to the client and he gets dns results. Now I think we have to got out with some kind of NAT, because our client has a private IP from the IPSec Client pool. At the moment we have no NAT inside/outside, bacause we only use official IP addres in- and ouside (data-room usage).
- Is it possible to get the NAT function going in and out on the same interface with crypto_map IPSec user comming in and going out to the internet ? - Is it more secure to configure this with vrf ? - Has some a link to example configurations for this ?
I am testing a EasyVPN IPsec server set up on a cisco 891. Here is how I have it set up right now- the 891 is connected to our backup internet connection (different ISP from our main line) and we have a cisco 1921 as our production router.
I am experiencing a problem where when I am on our internal network off the 1921 and I connect to the VPN on the 891 I lose all local network connectivity. Nothing works, can't ping, can't telnet to the 1921, can't browse the internet, its not just DNS either.
I believe the issue lies in the configuration of the IPSec server on the 891 because when I connect to our client's cisco IPSec VPN I experience full local connectivity with no issues whatsoever. It seems to me that ALL traffic is being routed through the tunnel.
Other than the local issues the VPN is working fine and I can remote desktop to the PC I have set up off the 891 and telnet to the 891 from there.

I'm having problem establish l2tp/ipsec vpn connection from Windows vista/7 vpn client to cisco 1921 ( ios 15.2 ) C1 --------> (internet cloud) ---------> (cisco 1921)----->LAN
Error that I'm retrieving is always the same: Error 789: "The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer encountered a processing error during initial negotiations with the remote computer"
But I'm able to establish l2tp/ipsec vpn connection to the same vpn server with my iPhone 4.
Below is isakmp debug log from lns router(cisco 1921) when I've tried to establish vpn with windows client. Anything useful from these logs to point me on the right direction to finally solve this problem with windows clients.

We have to configure our firewall cisco Asa 505 (ASA Version 8.3(1)) in order to establish a ipsec vpn between our office site and another external site. Vpn has been established successfully between our ip site 172.16.69.24 and other vpn ip site 172.16.23.23.Our server (192.168.100.25) behind firewall cisco (sk lan 192.168.100.254) manages to ping server 172.16.23.23 on other site through a static route add on windows so server (route add 172.16.23.0 MAK 255.255.255.0 192.168.100.254).On the other site, server with ip 172.16.23.23 doesn't ping our vpn ip site (172.16.69.24) which has to be natted to our server 192.168.100.25.
I have an existing VPN tunnel from my branch office to corporate.I want to allow my employees to establish a VPN connection to our local branch office where we have a local server, and not go through the corporate office. Can I set up a direct VPN connection to my router/ firewall at the branch office, even when there is a VPN tunnel already connected between my office and corporate?
Is it possible to configure Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) over IPsec on a cisco router like 1921 ISR? This link shows basically what i want to achieve but instead of an ASA, i would like to use just a router with sec..
I am having a hard time trying to configure DMVPN with the tunnel being sourced via a loopback interface. All routers are Cisco 886 routers which don't have L3 ports. That is why I used SVI interfaces, and have configured the L2 ports (Fa0, Fa1, etc.) with the command switchport access vlan. The problem is that I am receiving Invalid SPI error's only on the Hub router and I have no clue what could be the problem, because they use exactly the same parameters for IPsec. [code]
I'm using a RV082 with latest firmware v4.0.4.02tm in one of our branch offices. Sometimes the tunnel to the main office (IPCOP 1.4.21) fails. Both sides display the status "tunnel connected" but IP traffic doesn't go through. If i try to ping the main office using the RV082 diagnostic feature, the RV082 seems to run into a loop...the window continues refreshing without any error message and i'm not able to cancel the test. If I restart the RV082 using the web interface, the "diagnose" and VPN problem still exists, even if the web interface told me that the device did a restart.
The only solution is to to a cold restart of the RV082. After that, the VPN tunnel works again....
This problem occurred 3 times in the last 3 weeks. I never hat this problem with previous firmware versions at this ot other sites.
We are using a CISCO1921-SEC Router. On the "WAN" side we have 1 public IP Adress assigned by DHCP. At the moment we are using the WAN Interface with a crypto-map as endpoint of some IPSec connections. We set up a zone-based-firewall with "WAN" and "LAN" zone. In this setup all IPSec Endpoints are on one Interface - connections to the "LAN" zone can be managed by rulesets. What about connections between IPSec connections and the zone "self".We like to terminate each IPSec connection in a separated zone. How can this be configured ?Each one on a "tunnel inetface" with "tunnel source ..." binding ?
I'm trying to setup a GDOI based IPsec connection between a cisco AS901 (advanced Metro lic - asr901-universalk9-mz.152-2.SNI ) and a 7606-S.What I see is that the ASR901 is capable of decrypting the IPsec packet but I cannot encrypt the ICMP packet back, so the question is if the AS901 can support IPsec in software. What I could not find in the docs on CCO. [code]
We have used two Cisco RVS4000 to create the IPSec VPN between the main office and the branch office. The main office has SBS 2008. There is a Windows Server 2008 as the domain controller in the branch office. One branch office user has a laptop which is not in the domain, but his exchange account is set up in the Outlook. When he connects the laptop to the branch office network, he cannot connect to the exchange server and get the emails. Is there any configuration to set up in the router, server or Outlook?
- Ipsec tunnell between two 881's - An Aruba access point trying to set up a tunnell back to controller through the ipsec tunnell, on udp 4500 - Even though traffic shouldn't be NAT'ed (and other traffic is not), udp 4500 is NAT'ed
I guess this might be default behaviour, thing is that it used to work when it was set up as a route based easy vpn.
We have a Cisco 2820 that serves as a hub and our spokes are Cisco 871s. Its been working for a while and for some reason last week. Http and https traffic over the tunnel is having connection issues. I can Remote desktop or PCanywhere into the remote PCs. From that PC I can ping internal IP address or IP of the webmail server or internal webserver with no issue. But if I access it over the browser it times out or it will work and stop working again. Basically ica, icmp, pcanythere, rdp traffic works over the tunnel but not http or https.
can I force an IPSEC L2L tunnel to use NAT-T encapsulation no matter what? Automatic detection says none of the endpoints are behind NAT. I know I can disable it by the "crypto map XXX set nat-t-disable" command, but I want the exact opposite.
I have a very strange issue where asynchronos routing is making my life as a technician very hard.
A side question; Can I do something about an ISP that is policy-base-routing its ESP traffic (and/or translating it)?
I'm attempting to configure a tunnel on a PIX-501 version 6.3. It's an old device that's due to be replaced soon, but unfortunately we need a tunnel now... I have been using this document as a reference (6211): URL ,The remote end is a sonicwall.
The problem seems to be that the pix never sees the interesting traffic for the tunnel, and never tries to initiate a connection. I have enabled crypto ipsec and crypto isakmp debugs, but no data is ever displayed, even when attempting to access a device on the remote side of the tunnel! Someone had tried to set up this device with some tunnels in the past, but was never successful, so I'm thinking there might be remaining commands in the running-config causing problems.
configuring some static NAT entries on a remote site 887 router which also has a IPSec tunnel configured back to our main office.
I have been asked to configure some mobile phone "boost" boxes, which will take a mobile phone and send the traffic over the Internet - this is required because of the poor signal at the branch. These boxes connect via Ethernet to the local network and need a direct connection to the Internet and also certain UDP and TCP ports opening up.
There is only one local subnet on site and the ACL for the crypto map dictates that all traffic from this network to our head office go over the tunnel. What I wanted to do was create another vlan, give this a different subnet. Assign these mobile boost boxes DHCP reservations (there is no interface to them so they cannot be configured) and then allow them to break out to the Internet locally rather than send the traffic back to our head office and have to open up ports on our main ASA firewall.
So I went ahead and created a separate vlan and DHCP reservation and then also followed the guidelines outlined above about using a route-map to stop the traffic being sent down the tunnel and then configured static NAT statements for each of the four ports these boost boxes need to work. I configure the ip nat inside/outside on the relevant ports (vlan 3 for inside, dialer 1 for outside) The configuration can be seen below for the NAT part;
! Denies vpn interesting traffic but permits all otherip access-list extended NAT-Trafficdeny ip 172.19.191.0 0.0.0.255 172.16.0.0 0.3.255.255deny ip 172.19.191.0 0.0.0.255 10.0.0.0 0.255.255.255deny ip 172.19.191.0 0.0.0.255 192.168.128.0
