Lately the internet connection to all the computers would just stop. All the computers are connected to the router and the router is connected to the cable modem and their is no indication of a problem. The lights are all on and the router status shows the cable status as connected and the network status as established. I can't open any webpages, or all the ping would time out. It happens on all device, Windows Vista/7 PC, Mac computer, Linux laptop, and iPhone/ iPad. The problem gets fixed when I reset the router or just wait about 5-10 minutes and the problem goes away. That normally isn't a problem, but it's starting to happen twice a day now and it is really really annoying when I'm playing games. I tried the FAQ and searching the forums, but in vain.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just installed the X2000 and managed to get my Win7 Home Premium to connected to the Internet and also one wireless device. I previously had just a modem. Sometimes, when my PC is up and running, I want to disconnect it from the Internet and later connect again. There is an icon on the lower right of my toolbar which, with my old modem, allowed me to connect and disconnect but it seems to know only about the old modem. Basically it operated by starting the sequence: All Control Panel Items>Network Connections>Broadband Connection. Now this function does work; it tries to connect (through "WAN Miniport (PPPOE)") and gets "Error 651: The modem (or other connecting device) has reported an error". Can you tell me what where is the program that seems to start the Internet connection for the X2000 and if I can change parameters for the Win7 "Broadband Connection" to use the X2000? Perhaps the parameter "Connect on Demand" in the "Basic Setup" of the X2000 is involved?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just did a fresh install of windows 7 x64 on a 2tb hd. the only drivers I have installed are the chipset, the onboard audio, usb 3.0, onboard HD GFX, marvell raid controller, and the intel management engine. The only other program installed is intel desktop utility. my onboard NIC is not working. i get an error saying the Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration. I've tried setting the IP's and DNS addresses manually. I've tried disabling flow control. I've tried disabling IPV6. I've tried restarting the computer numerous times. The cable is fine, it was working yesterday. This also happened a couple days ago when I uninstalled my BigFoot 2100NIC, so I just said screw it and reinstalled it and internet worked great after that. I've tried pinging two adresses and it failed to ping 192.168.1.1 (the router address). I'm considering just installing the BigFoot I have right next to me, but i'm hesitant because the whole point of the clean OS install was to diagnose a stop 124 BSOD. I guess the question is would I rather have internets or GPU (the hardware I was planning on installing next), but its puzzling me why my onboard NIC is not working.
Here's my IPconfig/all. I've already reset ipv4,ipv6 and winsock through cmd with admin.

I recently switched from a DSL ISP (Earthlink, Zyxel modem configured as a bridge, pppoE connect) to a cable ISP (Comcast, Arris cable modem, dhcp connect). Basically PC --> DIR615-->Cable modem-->Internets. With the old DSL the Internet activity LED (green, looks triangular) on the DIR615 blinked only when internet activity occurred. With the new Comcast connection it blinks non-stop about 5 times a second! Even if the PC is turned off it blinks. It stops blinking if I disconnect the ethernet cable between router and modem. The connection itself is fine, but if the DIR615 is doing something it should not be doing it might slow the connection down a bit, (or burn something out prematurely?)FYI, the Arris cable modem does not seem to be a router. It takes a cable connection from outside and provides a single ethernet cable and 2 (voice) telephone cables to the house.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFew days ago the wireless in my son's Dell Inspiron 620 went bad. It does connect to my old router (WEP), but speed is terrible and connection goes bad after some time. I can also see my modern router and enter the key successfully (WPA2), but it won't connect. Connection to both routers went well for months before, and still goes well from all other devices in the house.
I read the issue with McAfee that was posted late August and followed the steps. Connection in safe mode didn't work. Then I removed McAfee from the PC, no difference. Then I restored the PC to a couple of days before the issues began, removed McAfee again (as it came back through the restore), no difference.
I reinstalled the drivers of the Dell wireless card, no difference.
I'm having problems connecting to the Internet using the wireless adaptor - it will connect initially but the connection is very very slow and then will eventually drop out and stop working. When I connect using an Ethernet cable, there are no problems whatsoever so I know it is not a service provider issue.I have updated the BIOS to A11 and all drivers are up to date. The wireless adaptor is Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030. [code]

There is a computer at a job location that MUST have internet access, but the property manager at that location does not want the computer to be in their network for security reasons. Is there anyway we can create a new network and still have internet access with out being in the property's own network? Is it as simple as just creating a new network?

Ive already tried to use PPPOE with the above setup and im able to share the internet over the entire network using routing and remote access in server 2008 but installing forefront on top of this configuration isnt supported as forefront takes over routing and remote access with no demand dial support.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI newly installed win 7 in 2 pc's. I had used the internet connection sharing when I had Win xp installed in them before. So I gave the static IP address,192.168.0.1 to the pc with the internet connection, and had the other pc obtained the IP address automatically. File sharing works fine, but somehow the 2nd PC could not be connected to the internet. When I checked its connection details, the Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address was 169.254.224.63. I think this IP address should be something like 192.168.0.xxx, but it's configured to auto, so I can't really do anything right now

View 1 Replies View RelatedI, like OP, use my PC to sign into Xbox LiveI've never had problems with it before, not ones that I couldn't solve, and have set it up a number of times after reformats or new installations of Windows, so I usually am able to figure out the problem on my own without necroing old threads. But this time my luck seems to have run out. All of a sudden a few days ago, my Xbox refused to sign into Xbox Live. There seems to be a problem with my Xbox recognizing my PC's internet connection, because when I do tests they never get beyond the 'Xbox 360 to Network' stage. I did the usual steps that are given in the troubleshooting section but to no avail.
I looked at my network connections in the control panel, and it seemed my Xbox connection was set up for ICS, rather than my computer. It dawned on me when I figured out that the reason the 'Sharing' tab wasn't showing up for my PC's connection (in the Properties tab) was perhaps because the other connection had it enabled. Sure enough when I disabled it for the Xbox, the Sharing tab showed up in the Properties for my PC's connection. Only, when I go to click it to enable it and press OK, it gives me a message: "An error occured while ICS was being enabled. The dependency service or group failed to start." I thought perhaps it meant my Xbox connection but that doesn't seem to be the case, as the message appears whether its turned on or off.
At this time I'm also awaiting a new video card, as my current one died on me yesterday, which was a day or two after this Xbox connection problem arose...great timing, right? I'm currently operating in safe mode with networking, and I know that certain windows operations don't work in safe mode. Perhaps this error message I'm receiving is due to me being in safe mode? I have no other options until the new card arrives, as starting Windows up normally went from being a really fubar screen to being a completely black screen upon start up. So I guess my question is...am I unable to enable ICS while in safe mode? And if so, why was I able to disable it while in safe mode for my Xbox's connection? That's really annoying.
Some of the things I've seen while looking foXbox ethernet can go bad, i.e. through static shock frying it. I've had some problems with my surge protector that are quite strange. Sometimes it will start to beep continuously really loudly until I disconnect it. And then I have to unplug everything from it, plug the protector back in, and reconnect everything, in that order otherwise it beeps at me in disgust. But there's no pattern to this. It once did it twice within a week, then the next time it did it there was about 3 weeks in between. Perhaps this is partially to blame for the video card crapping out...perhaps it did something to xbox? But one would think it would cause something like a RROD, rather than something so specific as the ethernet port.
I use my phone as a modem with PdaNet for my computer to have an internet connection. I play Xbox Live with it all the time, but recently when I try to share the connection, it says Error 765 : Cannot Enable Shared Access".
