Dec 12, 2011My etherenet connection dropped out of my network sharing center and i can not get it to come back. I dont know where to look or how to reactivate it.

IBM Desktop / Network Connection Dropped Several Times A Day
May 20, 2011The computer in question is one of 30 computers in the same office that is not currently experiencing this same thing. All connected though the same switch, patch panel, etc. Testing has proven that the switch and line is fine.We have a server set up for all of the multifunction printers on property and we simply map the printers through this unit.We have an exchange server for email.File server... for... files. Okay, here is the situation. This IBM desktop will be connected to everything, able to print, email, connect to files, etc etc.Then, or so it seem, will just lose its connection. no email printing etc. She is asked to put in her network credentials again. and usually this works. (it seems that the network dropping out may take up to 3 minuets to fully restore and she tries to put in her credentials too soon).After each event she is able to restart her computer or type in her credentials and get back to work.. after mapping the printer again.

Jan 25, 2011I use my desktop for streaming media throughout the house. I found it was causing lag for gaming most likely because it was taking up all the bandwidth for the router. We had a 2nd router laying around as well as a 2nd wireless adapter so we set up a 2nd network that was not connected to the internet for strictly media streaming.I attempted to change the network settings so the internet connection appeared as a public network so that streaming of media was hopefully diverted to the non internet wireless adapter.I want a faster way of transferring large video files from my laptop to my desktop. I recently bought a crossover cable to do this through direct connection.Both use the same user name and password as well as run the same win 7 pro however the desktop is the 64 bit version. I set up both ipv4 with the same addresses.When it has worked I am only getting a connection speed of just over 10mb and once I connect the crossover cable between the computers it knocks out my internet connection on the wireless card.

Is there anyway we can create a new network and still have internet access with out being in the property's own network? Is it as simple as just creating a new network?

I have read it is possible to share it with ONE other PC via a crossover cable.I would like to share this to a router so that the PCs connected to the router can use this connection. Is this possible?If so, what would I need?(Other than a crossover cable and router)Side note: I'll be sharing this connection to a wireless router - so I'm hoping to basically relay the connection that way.I know it is possible to buy extenders that extend the range of wireless connections, but this is where the restrictions come into play...-We are not able to network these computers on the wireless network, as we do not manage it and have some quite strict privileges.-The router will also be used to share a hard drive via USB.

Aug 11, 2012I'm sure this may appear to have been asked before but I've scoured the Internet and can't find anything exactly applicable to the setup I'm trying to achieve. I had a sky ADSL connection in my living room that had my tv, ps3, NAS and netbook wired in. I've since changed to a sky fibre connection but this had to be installed in the master phone line which is upstairs. This obviously isn't a problem for all of the wireless devices around the house including the netbook and ps3 in the living room. The NAS and TV are still wired to the old router so can see each other with no problems. Any pc trying to connect to the NAS can just switch to the old router via wifi if desired. The only problem I have is that the TV can no longer access the Internet.
I initially tried to use ICS on the netbook (it's left on permanently) - it's wired to the old router and wirelessly connected to the new one. This appeared to be working for a while but is no longer playing ball. I've tried bridging the connections and the tv and NAS both had Internet access but it's very sporadic.Is this a reasonable setup or should I be looking for another solution? I can specify a manual ip, subnet and default gateway on the tv if necessary - I was going to point it towards the bridge's gateway but I don't know about IP?
Home Network :: Sharing An Apartment Internet Connection?
May 29, 2011I live in an apartment and I am forced to only use the apartment's internet service to go online. There are two ways to access the apartments network; via ethernet port or wifi. Once im connected and try to browse, I will first be taken an http login page to enter my username and password. The problem with this is I can only use the username and password for one computer at a time. Trying to get my second laptop to access the web using the same user and password will give me an error saying it is currently being used. As I have two laptops (work and personal), I would like to share the internet connection using a device that will allow either or both machines to connect simutaneously. What device will I need?

Jan 4, 2013I am connected to a public wifi in my building thru built-in adapter of my laptop. I am running Windows 7 Home Basic. The connection allows only one device to run on one login name. I need to share this connection with my other device by turning my laptop into hotspot or thru ethernet. I have tried using Virtual Wifi Miniport and Connectify. I have tried LAN also. But I encounter the same problem in all the cases. As soon as I turn on internet sharing thru the properties of my public wifi connection, the Virtual Wifi or the LAN turn "Unidentified" and there is no internet on my other device. I even tried using a usb wifi adapter to connect to public wifi and sharing the internet over my laptop's adapter and vice versa but to no avail.

Recently I changed it from a domain to a workgroup and now the internet connection drops after about 5 - 10 minutes.When I say "drops", I am referring to the browser can no longer display the webpage. The internet connection still shows to be "Excellent". I even tried pinging www.google.com and it can still ping the website but the browser just stops working. I have tried Firefox and IE.I updated the DNS to use the default primary DNS suffix. The only way to get the browser to re-establish a connection is by rebooting the laptop.[CODE]

Sep 1, 2011we got a Sonicwall router and we have been having stability issues. Every 1 minute the TCP connectio is dropped as well as UDP packets. This router is connected to a T1 connection and its requesting a DHCP lease every couple minutes as well. We originally had two WAN connections, and we have disabled the second one because someone thought it was that, but obviously it has to do with the internal network. This is a dual WAN router.

Sharing :: Prompted To Enter Network Password After Turning Off Sharing?
Aug 9, 2011Trying to create a network for file sharing, as have upgraded the 'server' (part of a Workgroup, not a Domain) from WinXP to Win7 and experienced problems ever since. Ironically the problems haven't mainly been with sharing files between Win7 and WinXP systems, but between 2 Win7 systems. I bought a new Win7 laptop and tried to connect it to the server, but it hasn't had Read/Write privileges over the files in the Win7 server. Entering a username and password to gain access to the servers folders has not been a problem, and as far as I know, opening files such as documents has not been a problem either. However, when trying to save an edited document, access is denied, and if I try to open an executable file (this is necessary for a node installation), it prompts me for a network password. Every combination possible of username and password from the 2 systems (including '' or 'SYSTEMNAME' before the username) has not worked. I tried syncing the times which was apparently a previous problem, but to no avail. I am unable to access Local Security Policy, as the server is running off Home Premium. I have tried creating a new workgroup, removing and changing passwords, enabling guest access to the network through the Windows Resource Kit Command Shell, creating identical users on both computers, but nothing appears to have worked.

I am not too sure what other info I need to put here.My connection used to drop frequently (around every 5 min) and I would have really slow speeds (10ish kb/s). Recently, for some unknown reason, the dropping has stopped, but now I am getting speeds of around 9-15 kb/s.
The thing that has me COMPLETELY stumped is when I plug my laptop into the router, the wireless speed on my PC speeds up to, according to speedtest.net, 5.8 Mbps. If I unplug the laptop from the router,the speed on my PC slows down to .25 Mbps, yes - POINT .25 Mbps.I have attached the tester .

Mar 30, 2011I've been having a number of issues with performance on my DIR-655 with streaming media, internet connection being dropped and random reboots. Over the last couple of weeks it has been getting worse, to the point where I'm about to act out the printer scene from Office Space but with my DIR-655! It has been rebooting, completely killing WiFi networks and Internet Connection, almost every 20 minutes when I'm watching DivX over the network. The relevent information about my network is as follows:
-Hardware:
-D-Link DIR-655
-Hardware Version: A3 (US) , Firmware Version: 1.34NA
As an experiment I reconfigured the DSL-380T into PPPOE mode and set the DIR-655 into DHCP Client. This was over 2 hrs ago. So far - no random reboots, no jittering on the Media Center Extender playing videos, no internet drop outs..It seems to me that the DIR-655 doesn't cope well when it has to do the PPPOE network protocol as well as the routing, WiFi and other basic functionality that it should be able to cope with.I'll leave it running as it now is and report back later, but from the dramatic change in behavior I'm hoping that I've finally cracked my perf issues with the DIR-655.

May 30, 2013We are working with an ASA 5520 and it seems there is an issue with some email messages sent throught it. When there are many recipients in the emails the email messages are not sent, and I have revised the server an the only thing I see is connecting dropped. When I went to see ASA log and see this log report: ESMTP Classification: Dropped connection for ESMTP Request from 'interface': servername/portnumber to outside: IP address/25; matched Class 2: cmd RCPT count gt 100 tcp flow from interface:servername/portnumber to outside: IP address/25 terminated by inspection engine, reason - inspector disconnected, dropped packet. So I think there should be an inspection of ESMTP packets and if they detect an email message sent to over 100 addresses, then the packet is dropped, am I right? if so, what should I do to let those email messages be sent?

I say freezes as the nework icon (i'm using ubuntu' still show a connection. In addtion, there are not error in any of the logs. The solution works quite well but exactly every 120 minutes the connection drops and people have to reconnect. Is there any setting to change? In the PPTP server I haven't found any setting to change.
Lan Network Speed Dropped To Very Low?
Jan 31, 20122 pcs connected with a TPlink modem/switch. wired connection.One pc running win7 64, other xp sp3. Both home pcs..Used to get about 10mbs transfer speed. ( I know its low, but was more than happy with it as I never use it to transfer large files.But suddenly transfer speed changed to just 8kbps. Its kind of a speed limit activated.I can just browse files and folders but cannot copy at 8kbps.

I changed the configuration on my laptop to use WPA instead of WEP. My router is configured with fixed channels (not auto). My internet connection is continuously being dropped and I have to re-logon to everything (very annoying with vpn tunnels). All my other desktops/laptops in the house work without problems.

May 4, 2011I'm trying to set up a website filter on my DIR-601. I created a policy for 2 MAC addresses, with a schedule from 10AM-6PM, selected "Block some websites", and disabled logging. Under website filter, I added some entries, and selected "DENY computers access to ONLY these sites". When the policy is enabled, and I try to access one of the blocked websites, it gets blocked correctly ("The URL access was denied by administrator.") However, for all other websites, I get "server unexpectedly dropped the connection" errors, eg "Safari can�t open the page [URL] because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again." or in Chrome "No data received. Unable to load the webpage because the server sent no data." This happens with ALL non-blocked websites. I'm using hardware version A1, firmware version 1.01NA.
