what do i need to do to have my laptop access an Iomega EZ networked external hard drive? It is not my firewall on computer so Norton said it is the router.

The router is not showing my external hard drive in the usb settings. The Hard drive is a seagate 7200rpm 1.5tb. The hard drive works just fine when plugged into my computer. I have tried NTFS and EXFAT. My 2gb usb drive in FAT32 shows up just fine. The external has its own power supply. Is there anything I am missing that would cause it to not work?
I have a Windows 7 lap top and an Iomega eGo external hard drive. When I plug the hard drive into my computer via a USB, it works fine, but when i plug the hard drive in to the wireless router, I can not access it, and I would like access the hard drive wirelessly
I am looking to get access to an external hard drive that I have set up on my wireless network. When I try to do an automated Windows backup (off my Vista based laptop files) on to an external hard drive which is connected to my wireless network (through a Belkin router) I am being asked for a user name and password to access the connected hard drive on the network. The thing is that I don't remember setting up a username and password for the hard drive at all. I can paste single files mannually onto the external hard drive without being asked for a username and password. I did perform an automated Windows backup off my other Windows 7 laptop and was not ask for a username and password. where to find the username and password information ?

I've plugged a 3tb seagate backup plus external hard drive into the routers USB port and its not being recognised my other wd 1tb has no problem being picked up.
I have a Samsung TV, which I can use to stream media from my computer. I also have a Western Digital My Book Essential external hard drive connected via my router. I was wondering if it was possible to access media on that drive, even when the computer is off (that's the goal here).
I'm looking to be able to access (read and write) a networked external hard drive which is connected to a home router - specifically the Netgear WNDR3400, which has a USB port explicitly for this purpose - from outside the network, via the internet. This is for work purposes (specifically for a small business that I design for). Is this doable? I've been using Dropbox but that's proving too problematic as more and more files need to be managed. I would prefer it not be through software that has to be running on a computer, as there is no "machine" running 24/7 here besides the router itself.
I have a BELKIN F5D8235-4 V2 wireless router and I am trying to hook up my Western Digital My Book Essentials 2.0 1 TB hard drive to gain access wirelessly through the router. I have it connected to the router via USB but do not know how to access the drive. I have tried mapping a new network drive, but it is not listed as a connection. how can I access the drive.
I have a new techni colour wifi router TG582n which has a usb cobnnection in the side. I also have a new Samsung 400 gig external hard drive can these be linked to make a wifi hard disc store.
I'm currently in college, and do most things with my laptop, and I have wifi just about everywhere. It has a generous 500 GB of storage, but I'd like to store non-essential files on, an external hard drive. However, lugging around 3 TB of storage isn't exactly feasible, and with my experience with my current 1.5 TB portable drive, me running around everywhere with it bouncing in my bag is just going to abuse it until it stops functioning (which it has...)[URL]

I have two(2) WR941ND routers working at my home. The primary has IP : 192.168.1.2 , this primary router is working as an Acess Point, DHCP is OFF, and no wireless security activated. This primary router is connected to a DSL modem+router and DHCP is activated on it.For the secondary router I configred 192.168.1.100 . On the secondary router I have activated WDS function as well as Wireless Security (WPA2) , DHCP is Off on it. This secondary router is to work as wireless bridge + Access Point. You will understand that this secondary router is wirelessly connected to the primary one.I am able to configure all, and all things work correctly for few days at a time. But if at any time the secondary router is switched OFF, and then again switched ON, it seems to have lost al the settings and its IPs, and thus unable to connect to primary router. At such time I am unable to locate /connect my laptop to this secondary router, and it keeps on searching & searching.

This wireless router keeps freezing. It might stay up for 6 hours at the most, then I have to reset it or unplug for 10 seconds to get it to reset. I updated the firmware a few months ago thinking this would solve the problem. It hasn't.

Does TL-WR941ND provide support for 802.1x? (It is not mentioned in the product data sheet, but I found here: [URL] that it is supported on the above device.)

Currently I am using 2 WA5210Gs and a WR941ND to send my wireless connection from one home to another. The original home utilizes a TDS DSL modem/router combo. Everything works great, but then generally withing 24 hours I will randomly drop my internet connection in the second home, but the network is still up and running strong. The modem is not the problem, because I am able to grab a faint signal from the WA5210G AP connected to the modem and access the internet, and the client WA5210G AP is running at full signal. If I power down the router and restart it, the problem is fixed, but happens again within 24 hours. Originally I changed the IP on the WR941 thinking it was an IP conflict with the modem/router, but the problem occurred again. I also tried switching to unicast DHCP, but the problem still persisted. I looked for a firmware update, but couldn't find a newer version..

I updated my firmware due to connection issues, now it gets stuck when trying to load the console. I can see the grey pipe separators on the screen, but nothing else. I've tried chrome, firefox, and IE, but still nothing. The wireless AP is active, and i can connect wirelessly, and i can ping it. just cant get the console to show.

I have two routers, a TP-Link TD-W8968 (main & connected to ADSL) and a TL-WR841N (client) and I'm trying to get WDS working over them in order to use my PS3/media player etc at the tv.
1) are these 2 pieces of hardware compatible for WDS? Status of both hardware seems to indicate yes 2) if compatible, what am I missing so devices behind the client router can access the internet connection.

This is already my second model of the router, which got under warranty. The first model had a problem because it brokes off Internet connections. This second model also breaks the connection. I'm going to give it to complain. Before I do it I would like to ask if there are any ways to improve the router without the need to dispose of the device.

We need to configure the AP in such a way, only 1 antenna to be used & not other two, to meet some mounting requirements/limitations. Will I be able to do this using any test/debug commands?
Essentially I want this AP to be operating in 1x1 spatial stream, & with no antenna diversity, so that I can connect only 1 antenna & be deterministic about AP using only connected Antenna RF port & not others
With out configuring anything, when I connect only 1 Antenna, I observed that signal is fluctuating on Client Application & causing the applications traffic stream disconnect.

I would like to connect a device (dataloger that sends data to a remote server via internet) which only has LAN port to a wireless network on the location. I managed to do this once with WA901ND configured in Client mode (WA901ND acts like a wireless card for this data loger).Does WR941ND support this feature (which feature should I use?) or should I buy WA901ND again?
I have a simple wireless network in my home run through a Linksys WRT54G Router connected to a cable modem. I set up a Western Digital 1TB external hard drive as a network drive through use of a Seagate FreeAgent DockStar. (The HD connects to the DockStar by a USB cable, which in turn connects to the router by an Ethernet cable.)
The hard drive functions as a network drive and I've configured Windows 7 Home Premium on my laptop computer to recognize it at start-up so it can essentially be used read and written to like a local drive.
Is there a way to make Windows 7, either by built-in software or third party software, automatically backup certain files or directories when changes are detected?
For example, I have a folder on my internal HD where I organize the vast amount of photos that I take so that I can easily find them through the operating system instead of having to go through a photo manager. In my ideal situation, something would be monitoring to see if I have made changes in only that folder (either adding new folders, deleting photos, or modifying files) and simultaneously make the changes to the network hard drive. Effectively, I want something to mirror the changes on my local hard drive on the fly and update the network hard drive accordingly. I do this all manually at the moment and it sucks up a lot of time that could probably be done automatically.
I have realized that E4200 V1 I have, with 1.03 firmware, seems to be dying when I reboot it and it tries to load the USB HD I have connected to it. By die I mean the web server does not work anymore (http://192.168.1.1), and new computers can't connect to the router. I suspect it is due to the amount of files I have in the External Disk Drive -I used to have Media Server enabled, but I disabled it because this problem was happening, and I only left File Server enabled. Now since I moved many of my pictures to it, it seems even File Server is causing problems, and if neither one work for me, then this router does not justify its money, since that was the only reason I bought this E4200 hardware. These problems are solved in V2? Since it is still under warranty, I could try to exchange my V1 for a V2 version.
I just bought a Linksys E4200 from bestbuy tonight, mostly for the feature of plugging my hard drive into it to use it as a media server, and being able to read & write to it from any computer on my network. I have searched for hours on end trying to fix my problem. I login to my router (at 192.168.1.1), I go to the storage tab, I then click the "Create Share" button next to my WD hard drive in the list and nothing happens. Ive tried this on four different computers, and three different browsers now to no avail.

We are trying to use a TL-WR941ND purchased about a month ago, but it keeps hanging, usually within a day or so of operation. To be clear: by "hanging" I mean the device stops providing wireless services (its SSID is no longer visible in WiFi clients) and becomes nonresponsive to pings or control access attempts (via settings web page) from the internal network connections. The device is used in a very simple scenario, where it's being employed as a simple access point, not as a router. As such, the device's configuration is as follows:
* WAN interface is configured with a dummy static IP (10.10.10.10/24) with gateway and DNS set to the internal IP address of the actual routing device connected to the external world. * LAN interface is configured with an IP address inside the actual internal IP subnet (192.168.1.0/24). * DHCP is also disabled as this service is already provided. * Wireless settings: radio enabled, SSID broadcast enabled, WDS disabled, 11bgn mixed mode, auto channel width, max TX rate, channel 7 (manually set). Using WPA-PSK security.
Rest of the settings are unchanged from their default values, as the device isn't being used as an IP router by any client - just as a WiFi/Ethernet layer 2 bridge. We're using what appears to be TP-Link's latest stock firmware for the device. The settings described above appear to provide the connectivity required by the WiFi clients. However, the device continuously hangs within a day or so of operation, requiring someone to physically attend to the device and cold-restarting it (disconnecting it from power and reconnecting it) to regain an operational state.
After performing a cold restart, the system log shows nothing beyond the startup entries: "System started" entry followed by security info entries regarding enabled protocols. Then the device appears to work well for a while, until it hangs again, forcing again someone to attend to the device, etc.

I have a problem with files sharing via wi-fi. I can not share files over the network using wi-fi connections. While the network is the cable connection sharing is available. The network also acts as one computer is connected by a cable to the router and the other via wifi. But if the two computers are working through wifi network does not work. Are there any settings in the router, which can cause blocking calls via wifi?
I had an Iomega 1TB External Hard Drive connected to my E4200 router. I had shares confgured and they were properly running on the network.
As of yesterday, this all stopped working. The router does not see the drive; it is as though it is not plugged in.
I rebooted the router and it still does not work. I've connected the hard drive directly to my PC to verify that it works there, and it does. The router is running Ver.1.0.03 (Build 14) of firmware (the latest).
I have both a laptop and a brand new Mac. I have a 1tb external hard drive on my network that I use for storing my music. Why can I access this hard drive from my Mac? Is there a way to formatt the external hard drive so I can share the music files between my laptop and Mac?
I have an external hard drive that I used with my oldest laptop, windows XP. I have a newer desktop and laptop that are both running windows 7. I hooked my external drive to the desktop via USB port and want to be able to access from the other 2 laptops as well.
