Use 2 Wireless Routers From One Desktop?
Feb 17, 2011
I currently have one router hooked up to my desktop with one network and it is fine. But we are moving soon. I wont have an issue using the existing network that is in the house, but i figured that since we are moving somewhere where there is already a network, i will have an extra router, and i would love to be able to have that router upstairs in my room so that i can connect my xbox 360 directly to the network instead of buying the wireless adapter. We will have 2 desktops (as we are taking ours with us and there is already one in the house), but i dont know how to go about doing this the easiest way. can i hook my router directly to the existing one and run the cable upstairs? Do i have to set it up so that they are both directly connected to the main computer?

I have a Vostro 460 desktop, recently bought, and then realized it would be better to add wireless router. Bought router and a PCIe wireless mini card that was suggested for my PC on Dell order site. The card arrived and am trying to install. The end plate with the aerial socket is not compatible with the removable access blanks in rear of case. Have I been sent an incorrect or unsuitable card, or is there some trick or adapting needed to install this card?

I have a desktop connected to our work network. It's running XP Pro. I also have a laptop running vista home. Is there a way to hardwire that laptop to the desktop, so i can share files between those two computers, while ALSO keeping my desktop connected to my office network?Since it's vista home, I can't connect the laptop to our network, since it can only connect in workgroups, not networks. But if I'm just able to just use the laptop, create files, and then either save them to a shared folder with my desktop or just save them to the desktop with a switch or something, it wouldn't be a problem that my laptop can't connect to the network.

We have a WRSV4400N installed as our primary NAT Firewall. It is configured to allow Windows VPN connections to our server residing on the Internal Network Domain - this works fine.Problem is that even though the remote VPN client can open shares, browse the internal network, and resolve computer names fine with DNS, but... Remote Desktop will not connect using the VPN tunnel. We need this to work... I spent several hours with your support people when installing this router a year ago and got nowhere. And everythung else works fine.I am using Windows server-based VPN because your VPN Clint didn't work ata ll either. Can you perhaps give me a list of configuration settings to check?

Although we have a moderately wired house with cat6 cables runs in many of the rooms that all end in the basement, I am currently having trouble since I cat stream audio and video files from my desktop in the den to the netbook and receiver in the family room. All computers are hooked up by cable.I have tried a friends advice to plug in the exact IP address of the desktop (and vice versa on the netbook) but still the netbook cat find the desktop nor can the desktop find the netbook. I have tried home sharing in Windows 7 to no avail as I have been prompted to initiate a home network both on the netbook and the desktop when I think it is suppose to be initiated on one machine and same home network joined by the other.DSL Modem --> Linksys WRTGL router running Tomato --> switch -->various rooms (cont.)Family room (one of the various rooms) has a Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH AirStation (with one USB port) --> 1) netbook and 2) Denon AVR receiver (with network capabilities)I have a switch in the den and the desktop and laptop computers can read off each other through folder/drive sharing even with Kaspersky Internet Security running in the background so I'm sure it's not Kaspersky meddling with my network sharing. If both are on the wireless network, the netbook can access the desktop and vice versa. Is it possible for the netbook to read off the desktop based on my current set up? I can't bring the desktop down as we use them in the den and will not have room for it in the family room. I am not inclined to purchase a stand-alone HTPC at the moment if there is a network sharing

I use RDP extensively on my LAN to use and manage 4 PCs running Win XP or Win7. My consumer-grade Cisco Linksys WRT610n crapped out after less than 2 years, so I thought I'd try the Cisco WRVS4400N to gain extra features like VPN. I have not enabled anything new on the router except for adding a second wireless SSID for guest use, although no bandwidth management or VLANs have been set up yet. Firmware version is 2.0.0.8.Since installing this router I have been unable to use Windows RDP on ANY of my computers on the LAN, whether I use the machine name or the IP address. I can ping every device on my network - print servers, NAS boxes, PCs, but no RDP. WHAT'S GOING ON?

All settings look good. Upgraded from 1.0.3.5. Prior to upgrade, this was not problem.

My computer is not consistent at all with it's wireless speed currently i have a wireless n router running at 300mpbs but it is quite old, i was wondering what was a good wireless card to upgrade my desktop to. I built my own desktop so i'm installing a pcie card won't be too much of a problem, money isn't a concern at this moment. i want something with relatively low ping speeds as well as something that can take advantage of my bandwidth so i'm able to stream hd video
At the moment i have a cable modem hooked up to my router

My desktop has always been connected via ethernet cable but I'm about to move to the Middle of Nowhere, Alberta and will be mooching off a school's wireless internet that's about 400m away apparently. Not sure if that's door-to-door or not...so it may not actually be 400m away. Anyway, the principal said other people get the internet from the same distance but it's "inconsistent".

A computer in my house is as said a desktop PC, Phenom X4 965 BE, MSI board, HD5670.It is currently on opposite side of the house as the router and connects via Netgear USB adapter, cheap one but got it free. When connected out of 5 or 6 bars, it gets one. If i were to upgrade it to a PCI or PCI-E slot, would i see better connection? Web pages load fine, and i am not sure about DL speeds. I am connected with cable and it is just as fast it seems. I would just rather something a but more reliable.

I recently got a (new) Dell Inspiron 570 desktop. It didn't come with a wireless adapter, so I picked up a (new) TP-Link TL-WN781ND Wireless N PCIe adapter. Easy installation, worked immediately. Connection's not perfect, but I get 3 bars from across a house so it's about what I expected.Unfortunately, every little bit the connection drops. Sometimes it comes back within seconds, sometimes it lasts for several minutes; sometimes I won't notice it happening for hours, sometimes it drops every few seconds. There are two other computers on the network that don't suffer connection issues, and I've been able to test with my iPod that it's still connected at the same moment as my Dell is not.I tried updating the driver automatically, which oddly enough installed the driver for an Atheros AR9285, a different wireless adapter; and although everything seemed to still be working I gave it long enough to make sure the problem was still there and downloaded the correct driver from TP-Link's site, which didn't fix it either.

I got a modem installed and was planning on using ethernet cables for my desktop as well as laptop. The laptop works fine (as I'm using it). The desktop on the other had a wireless adapter installed. I tried using the cable with the desktop and it would'nt pick up the connection. I took the wireless adapter out of the desktop and still nothing. I tried creating a new connection but it would only allow me to make a dial up connection. Not sure what to do.

Or some reason my desktop can't connect to my wireless network at all. Every other device in the house will connect just fine but this desktop either won't connect or will only connect with a very slow, intermittent speed. I don't know how I would be able to post an IP Config because I'm having to post this on an iPad. I've tried just about everything.
I've Tried: Power cycling the system Power cycling the router Disabling the wireless adapter and re-enabling it Running a diagnose and repair Telling my system to forget the network Going between static and dynamic IP addresses
Connecting through wires isn't an option because my desktop is too far away from the nearest wired connection.don dry recently reset the router to stock settings and reset the security so that could be related. I haven't had time for a firmware update though or messing with the firewall.

We just recently signed up with Time Warner Cable for internet access. The modem they gave us is also a wireless router. So we set up our wireless network like we should but for some reason my desktop computer won't stay connected to the new wireless network. We have a laptop downstairs that doesn't have any problem staying connected. I can connect to the neighbors wireless network and I have no problems staying connected. I can't figure out why my desktop won't stay connected to our network

1) TP link wireless adapter
2) Netgear N600 wireless dual band usb adapter.
The netgear one I'm using right now just says, "scanning" constantly. Here's diagnostics:
Host Name: MININT-SNNBPV2
OS Name: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
OS Version: 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
