Using Public Access Network - Slow?

Nov 13, 2011

I brought my desktop PC thinking their would be an ethernet port in the room but there isn't. I went out and bought a Belkin USB Wireless N150 network adapter and I download things at roughly 25kbps which just... sucks. I tried to ask the "tech guy" here what type of router they are using and he said "W-E-P" so I just said "okay" and walked away knowing that he barely speaks english. What can I do to get any more speed out of this? I don't know if it's a B, G, or N. If it's a G, would buying the N300 (i think it's "N+") or the N600 Dual Band work at all? What settings can I change? What can I buy?I've also got my Xbox 360 hooked into my PC via the ethernet port and shared the network connection with it to play Xbox Live, it's slow, but not unplayable.

MY PC SPECS:

3.2 intel core 2 duo (conroe)
asus p5q mobo
4gigs kingston
Windows Vista 64bit Ultimate

Cisco Wireless :: AP1232AG-E-K9 / Setting Up Access Point To Public Network?

Nov 9, 2012

I want to use one (or two) AP1232AG-E-K9 access points for Internet connection through a public wireless network (BTFON), where wire broadband is not an option. I've downloaded what I think is the correct manual for the APs and I'm now scratching my head as to where and how to start setting them up. I want to use these Cisco APs in the hope they will give me better wireless performance than I'm currently getting, which is frequently flakey. I've tried to reset the APs to the factory default but there seem to be different ways of doing this depending on what you want and what you've got. I made up a console cable  to access the console but there even appear to be different versions of  this so I'm not sure if the cable I have is the correct one. I have setup and used lower end wireless devices in the past but these Cisco units seem real complicated.

Cisco WAN :: ASA 5510 - Allow Local Network To Access Public Internet Address On DMZ

Mar 14, 2013

I have a Cisco ASA 5510 I am using ASDM 6.1

I have a LAN and a DMZ and an internet connection. I am using one of the internet connection IPs to host a HTTP service on a server in my DMZ.  (its the same interface as my internet connenction but a different IP to the one used for internet connectivity)

so say my LAN is 192.168.1.x
and my DMZ is 172.168.1.x

I can access DMZ from Lan and vice versa. when i try to access the public IP (or URL) from a pc in my LAN i get nothing.

I have enabled DNS rewrite (doctoring) but it is still not working. the HTTP service is available from other sites.

Linksys Access Point :: WRVS4400N Broadcasts Two Different SSIDs - Public / Private Network

Aug 11, 2011

I have a WRVS4400N that brocasts two different SSIDs.  One is a public network and the second is a private network.  Right now, both SSIDs are pulling from the same DHCP server, but I would like to seperate the public from the private.  How can I seperate these SSIDs by vlans?  I can't seem to get the vlans to route to sperate ports.

This is my vlan settings.  I have two DHCP servers right now.  One is in an isolated network plugged into Port 3 of the WRVS4400N.  The other is on the production network, plugged into port 1 of the WRVS4400N. For some reason, whenever I connect to SSID Public, it won't pull an IP from the DHCP on port 1, it only pulls it from the one on port 2.I know there is three SSIDs here, the Static one is going to be the same network as the EMS one.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5550 - Direct Access To Public IP Address From Inside Network?

Jan 23, 2012

We have ASA 5550, I have a portal server in the dmz which is natted statically to a public ip address for port 443. The application works fine from outside world. The server is also nated with a dynamic nat from inside to dmz and when I hit on the dmz ip from my inside it works fine.

The requirement for us is that the users sitting behind the inside (i.e. LAN) should access the server on the public ip address and not thru the dmz.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Wrt160n Can Access Work Network From Multiple Public Locations From IPad

May 17, 2010

home router is a wrt160n v3 With my iPad I set up the built in IPSec VPN to my office's cisco gateway. I successfully get the VPN logo. With an RDP app, i can access my work network from multiple public locations from my iPad. At home, on my laptop, I start the cisco client then use the windows rdp, presto i'm in my work network. At home on my iPad I can activate the VPN, but I can not connect with rdp. I spoke with linksys support tonight they had me add port 3389 to port range triggering and disable the firewall on the home router. This didn't solve the problem. To recap: 1) I can connect to my work network with rdp from multiple public locations, but not at home with the iPad 2) I can connect to my work network at home with my laptop with the cisco client ant the windows rdp

Sharing :: Change Network Settings So Internet Connection Appeared As Public Network

Jan 25, 2011

I use my desktop for streaming media throughout the house. I found it was causing lag for gaming most likely because it was taking up all the bandwidth for the router. We had a 2nd router laying around as well as a 2nd wireless adapter so we set up a 2nd network that was not connected to the internet for strictly media streaming.I attempted to change the network settings so the internet connection appeared as a public network so that streaming of media was hopefully diverted to the non internet wireless adapter.I want a faster way of transferring large video files from my laptop to my desktop. I recently bought a crossover cable to do this through direct connection. Both use the same user name and password as well as run the same win 7 pro however the desktop is the 64 bit version. I set up both ipv4 with the same addresses. When it has worked I am only getting a connection speed of just over 10mb and once I connect the crossover cable between the computers it knocks out my internet connection on the wireless card.

Why Can't Access Public Folders

Apr 6, 2011

am running 2 PCs (one desktop and one laptop) both with windows vista home premium, both are in a home group, are connected by a DIR-615 D-link router/wireless access point, and have file sharing and network discovery enabled, but when I try to access the public folder on either PC from the other I get "The network path could not be found".When I try to troubleshoot this it tells me my modem is having connectivity issues and attempts to find out "why I can't connect to the internet" which is extremely bizarre, as this has nothing to do with the internet connection, I simply wish to access the public folder on a private network

Cannot Connect To Public Wireless Access Points?

Apr 6, 2012

At home, I use my laptop to connect to my wireless router without any trouble. But at: public libraries, Starbucks, hotel rooms... any free public wifi? All attempts to connect meets with the same error: "unable to connect to network" (preceded by the system hanging for a lengthy amount of time). Windows advises me to unplug the router and plug it back in, which obviously isn't an option. It's annoying to troubleshoot, because I'm only having the problem at times where I have no wired access (hence: no way to get to forums like these and look for an answer, update drivers, whatever).

Cisco VPN :: ASA Version 8.2(5) - Public-to-Public L2L / No Return Traffic?

Apr 2, 2013

One of our vendors requires using a public ip address to setup a site-to-site IPSEC vpn. We only have one public ip address and that will be used for the vpn endpoint and for internet access for the local network. I've setup policy NAT from our local network to the outside interface. I'm also using the outside ip address for the crypto map. The tunnel setups successfully and the Tx count increases anytime I try to ping the remote network, but the ping fails and the Rx count does not increase. According to our vendor, we should be able to ping the remote network and connect using port 443. When trying to connect using port 443, I see a SYN timeout in the logs. I'm not sure if the problem is on their end and they're rejecting our traffic, or if something is misconfigured on our end. I'd like to make sure that I have everything configured correctly before I go and point fingers at them.

Public / Private IP And Port Number For Remote Access?

Dec 23, 2012

I would like to understand how public IP works in remote access. I do have belkin router and when I access it remote I type my public IP and after it the port number for example xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:80 and if I would like to access an IP cam remotely in the same network i would do the same thing xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5656 (public IP). I do know my Public IP is unique. Thus, its quite logical I can access my devices remotely. my understanding of the port number is application specific that addresses packets in different applications in the same computer. For example port 80 is for HTTP connection used browsing the web, for chatting in MSN i will use different port number specifically for MSN...etc. my question is how I can access my belkin router remotely by typing the public IP and the port number knowing that the port number is application specific not device specific? My second question is, is it possible to access two routers in the same network remotely?

Cisco WAN :: 2821 Cannot Access Inside Server By Its Public IP

Jul 5, 2011

The router is 2821 and is setup to perform static NAT from one internal ip address mapping to one external ip address for each of our servers (inside the LAN): [code] Servers all have internal ip addresses and each of them represented to the outside world by their public ip address with above command on the router. Here is the problem. When I'm in a server (for example 192.168.0.210) and try to access other servers by their public ip addresses (i..e. *.*.*.211) the connection fails. However, When i try to access the same server by it's private IP address (i.e. 192.168.0.211) it works!

My issue is i don't want to modify windows host file for a manual mapping (for example mail.mydomian.com goes to 192.168.0.211 rather than *.*.*.211) because we host many domains and just doesn't make sense to do it one by one.So we must be able to access our servers by their public IP addresses in order for us our applications works correctly.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 8.4(3) - Access To Public IP Address From Inside

May 22, 2012

I need to connect from an inside host to a host located in the DMZ zone for DNS queries. The host in the DMZ zone has a static NAT to the outside. The point now is that I would like to connect from inside to the NATed outside address, means to the public Internet address.

Inside host: 10.0.0.1 -> PAT for 10.0.0.0/8 to 20.0.0.254 (Outside Interface)
DMZ host: 192.168.1.1 -> NAT to outside to 20.0.0.1

The traffic should be 10.0.0.1 udp>1024 to 20.0.0.1 udp=53. The source IP address on the outside interface now is 20.0.0.254 (according to the PAT), the destination IP address 20.0.0.1. The DNS reply from 20.0.0.1 should go back now to 20.0.0.254 and then to the inside host 10.0.0.1.

I know that on the PIX it was not possible, to have outgoing traffic on the outside interface which immediately enters again the same interface. Can I realize this scenario with the ASA 8.4(3) release now?

Cisco WAN :: RV082 Setting Up Public Access To Web Server

Jan 13, 2011

I have a new (linksys/cisco) RV082 Router that I have just set up and everything is working except that I can't configure it to allow public access to our web server.    I have tried configuring port forwarding under the Forwarding and UPnP menus and still no access from the outside.  I have tried accessing it from the outside using both the URL and the IP address and still no access.  I have checked with my ISP and no ports are being blocked from their end.  I can ping my public static IP from the outside with no problem.   The documentation that I've found for this router refers to a menu that is different from the menu of this router and refers to an Applications & Gaming menu which isn't there, but it seems like the port forwarding should handle this.

I have a static public IP, a static internal IP for the server.   I have set the port forwarding and UpNP to point to the IP of the server using port 80 and a secondary forward to port 8080.  There are no issues accessing the website from within the LAN.

Cisco Firewall :: PIX 515e Allow LAN Users To Access ISP Assigned Public IPs

Dec 16, 2012

Pix 515e 6.3.4..A web server on our DMZ is exposed for external access. There is an "A" record (webserver.yyy) on a public DNS for this public IP.This works fine for external users. url..Now I have been asked to allowed our LAN user to access the same link and I CANNOT CREATE AN INTERNAL DNS RECORD TO TAKE CARE OF THIS, which means when our internal users access that link, the request goes out of OUTSIDE interface with a NAT overloaded address(111.111.111.2) that is in the same subnet as the URL is trying to resolve. Once it knows the IP address thru DNS resolution tries to comes back in thru the same Interface(OUTSIDE) to hit the web server in the DMZ and is not able to.

1- Where does the request from an internal user to hit url is dropped?

2- what can be done to allow this type of connectivity in the PIX 515e device?

Cisco Wireless :: E4200 - Small Business / Wi-Fi Access In Public Areas

Oct 5, 2011

We are looking into the possibility of putting in some public wireless access in the public areas of our organization. Its a fairly small building in terms of public access and it needs to span 3 rooms in total. We have a spare BT line into the building - ADSL 2+ - and so will utilize that instead of putting them on our network. We would like to run some router based content filtering on the router - but would use open dns if this isn't possible.I could do to find a good wireless router that will cover the 3 areas . Its not a large budget project as there isn't going to be very highly utilized. We are looking Cisco kit - and have drawn up a few options. Initially we were going to go with the 1140's - but these are access points and as per my understanding aren't going to work with the phone line - as it needs to be a wireless router.

The next area was the Linksys E series (E4200) - they do look really good, and they have the content filtering which we like. What the power and range of the E series is? The only issue we might have is its a fairly old building and so some of the walls are pretty thick - one of which is wooden lined. It has the 3x3 mimo antennas and so guess it would provide some pretty good range/power. If the hardware is cheap enough then we may be able to setup the routers in repeater mode - however I'm not sure if the home devices can work that way? - I think max would be £300 - but that will be decided when I have some better numbers.
