Vista Cannot Get Wireless Internet

Just installed Vista and cannot seem to get the wireless card up. It keeps saying local only and when I diagnose and repair it says Cannot communicate with primary DNS server(192.168.2.1) When I run Ipconfig /all this is what I get:

I subscribe to Comcast internet service, at 10 mb/s. When connected wirelessly on my HP laptop, my internet is painfully slow, around 490 kb/s. However on my other laptop (a Sony VAIO) the internet speeds (wireless as well) are fine. Also, when I connect the HP by ethernet, the internet motors along at full speed. My specs are below[CODE]

I have an HP Pavilion PC and am running Windows Vista. My browser is IE. Recently, I have noticed a RED X over the wireless icon on the lower right section indicating that I am not connected to the internet however, I am. In the last couple days my connection has actually started dropping off while in use.

My old HP Pavillion worked fine with the Comcast wireless router, but won't work with my new Qwest Q1000Z (top of the line) router. We tried to manually switch everything over with the Century Link people, but they say it must be a program problem with laptop

I just set up a linksys n900. On one of the laptops that have vista it doesn't connect to the internet. The odd thing is when I first hooked up up it seemed to work fine than a day later it just stopped. All other computers are fine and if I try to connect to another network it works fine. Just when I try my home network it has issues.

I am not able to connect my HP laptop (Windows Vista) to the internet via a wireless router/high speed internet.My internet service provider confirmed that it is a problem with my HP laptop.I have a Linksys router. My other laptop (Sony) connects fine.I have tried two browsers on my HP laptop to access the internet with no luck.My HP laptop does say that I am connected to the wireless network.

I am connected to my network wirelessly and I have Internet acces (according to the symbol at the bottom right) bu the Internet doesn't work. At the moment it keeps fluctuating between giving me interne and not I am using Skype to tell me if I have Internet ( when it's green I do when it's grey I don't) I have tried many things on forums like obtaining ip automatically or obtaining a fixed ip. I've tried renewing the ip and all this doesnt work.

I have a vista laptop connected to internet and a desktop running window XP. I want to make the laptop share its internet connection to the XP desktop but I haven't succeeded. The desktop has 3 Ethernet ports with one showing 3 computer connected together(same on the laptop except has 2 ports). I've tried connecting on all the ports but nothing happened. I googled a lot but the results I found always involved the XP having Internet but not the laptop. The computers cannnot even ping each other.
I did this before but both computer ran Windows XP, so I think it has to do with Vista.

i have a vista laptop and has connected to my old home network no problem i have now connected it to my new home router and connects to it fine but cannot get internet through it? other pcs can fine. i have looked over settings best i can and dont see why it should be able to recieve internet. it sends and recieves data to the router. and others get internet from it?

I've been having connecting my other desktop pc (with windows vista) to the internet. I am connecting it via ethernet/cat 5 and every time I continue to get a message that says unidentified network and it wont connect me to the net. From a previous post, I tryed going in and working with the tcp/ip stacks thru the command prompt and had no luck. So what I did was copy all the information from the command ipconfig.

So my Dad got a new Windows 7 computer, and gave me his old windows vista. When we got his computer all hooked up, and hooked up the windows Vista next to it. My mom wanted to use it to check her email. she didnt download anything, but after she turned it off, and i turned it back on, the computer would not detect any type of internet activity. i put in a new ethernet card, and it still would not work. The sound on the computer has also stopped working. i checked windows audio service, and it says its running, and there is no detected problem with any of the hardware.

I have a program Eric's Movie Data Base. It needs to go to IMDB to update very often.On my XP there is no problem, it connects quickly every timeHowever I need to run it on my laptop with vista with a wireless connection.Using Vista the program EMDB runs ok but cannot connect to the IMDB site via the program.I have checked and firewall is off, and UAC also.As xp has no problem ( both are usin the same router) I can only assume Vista is blocking it.The request is reaching my modem, and the router is not using any port forwarding.Error message in log isFIREWALL replay check (1 of 24): Protocol: ICMP Src ip: 94.64.148.77 Dst ip: 58.166.25.196 Type: Destination Unreachable Code: Port UnreacheableI have contacted the developer who says the program is using the IE engine.

error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start. The router is Cisco Linksys E2000. No problems before and not with apple products going online, this hp is about 7 years old. Seemed to suddenly stop accessing internet.

I just reinstalled vista and put my disc with drivers in and may have chosen the wrong network adapter. Does windows automatically locate my adapter? My computer receipt lists "integrated 10/100 network card" and "intel 4965AGN wireless-N mini card".I can't access the Internet.When I ran the setup from the drivers disk, I chose intel 8255x-based PCI ethernet adapter (10/100). My other devices have issues too. There are 3 base system devices an Ethernet controller device and video controller that have the yellow exclamation points by them, as well as the network adapter.

my moms computer had vista on it an it crashed, so i installed xp pro and now the internet wont connect. in cmd prompt it says that the media is disconnected but everything is fine becuz both of my wireless laptops r connected fine...ive already tried to repair the local ac an it didnt do anything. also have tried reassigning the ip address and unplugging/ restarting the modem.

My girlfriend has just had Virgin Media installed in her house. She has a vista laptop which she is trying to connect wirelessly to the network. She can connect to the network (she says) but cannot use the internet.She has made sure she is typing in the security key correctly.I got her to try different encryption methods and she says these did not work.Tried resetting the network stack.Tried flushing DNS.Made sure Obtain IP and DNS automatically are checked.Tried setting up a wireless connection manually.There may be other things i've suggested but cant remember at the moment as well.Connecting via an ethernet cable works so its definitely a wireless problem. Her phone works using the wireless network ok, its just the laptop.

This is strange. I have a client who owns the DIR-601 router. It connects to a COX cable modem.
The wireless side works fine. I can access the internet using wireless connection with no problem. I can connect my Linux laptop both wired and wireless no problem.
However, and this is the puzzle, I cannot connect his Vista computer to the internet. It worked for a while then just stopped. From the Network and Sharing screen we can see a good connection to the router, but a big red X from the router to the internet.
I can ping the router with no problems, but I can't ping anything on the net either using a name (www....) or an ip address.
We changed from dhcp to static ip but that didn't work either. Changed the DNS to the ip address of the COX DNS just in case that was the problem. Still the same.
I have had COX over to check everything out and everything is fine on their side.
I have Googled all over the place and not found anything that's useful. I did find one post about a 625 that said to change the WAN speed from auto to 10 or 100, but from what I see the 601 doesn't have this capability.

The problem I was having was my laptop wouldn't connect to my new router provided by them, it would say it was connected but 'Local Only'. Turned out in the end all I needed to do was update my Atheros and Realtek drivers. Months down the line, now having the same symptoms, I decide to update my drivers only to find out there are no updates available and my drivers are up to date and working. The only other thing that may be the root to the this problem is the fact last night I connected to my girlfriends router at her house with this same laptop. Now I come back to my router this evening and I'm having these symptoms I had months ago. It's also saying the network is 'Undentified' eventhough it SAYS it's connected. It doesnt allow me to access the internet at all. I removed the history of my girlfriends connection on manage wireless networks, including my own.

I have a Vista Workstation that out of the blue today stopped connecting to the internet after applying the windows updates. I have gone back and rolled them out but it still will not connect.It is hardwired (Ethernet) to a cisco e4200 router that gets its internet from a motorola surfboard cable modem. I tried it with a wireless connection and had the same issue.Other computers on the network work fine both connected with ethernet and wireless. It won't assign an IP even though dhcp is enabled on the router, so I assigned a static one and it sees the local network just fine, I'm copying files from it to my NAS server without a problem.

My Computer has been working perfectly fine, the connection super and the network perfect. But for some reason I go to sleep everything's fine and now zilch. It say's im connected to my network but that it's unidentified and I can't get on to my Internet. It's just that computer though, everything else like this laptop can connect to the network and the internet. No changes were made so i'm really not sure what has caused this. Nothings new either. My signal strength is excellent as well. Password Protected sharing has been off, has this compromised me?

I have just turned my PC on to find that i have lost connection to the internet through my desktop PC. I am using the wired connection to my router, and i also have my xbox connected to the router which is working ok too. My laptop also works when connecting to the router both wired and wirelesly.
My network adaptor on my desktop is a Nvidia nForce, i have tried updating the driver on this to no avail. Next i tried to ping the router but i get PING Transmit faild, error code 1231. I ran IPCONFIG /all and found that i had no default gateway set, and also it was saying that the ethernet adaptor was : Media Unoperational, but since i rebooted both the pc and router the media unoperational tag has gone.
On the network and sharing page it shows i am connected to an unidenfied network but there is a cross through the internet. It also says the access and Connection for the unitentified network are Local only.

Was able to connect to my network fine a couple of days ago. Now It doesn't want to work.
Everytime I try it seems like I connected (the little blue globe symbol displays) but when I try and go to a webpage, the connection times out or moves slow. When I run diagnose and repair it tells me that this computer has "limited or no connectivity" even though I'm able to connect to other networks. Selecting the "automatically get new IP settings" and "reset network adapter" options don't work. After selecting these earlier it was telling me "unable to connect to primary DNS server", then it was telling me "windows has confirmed this computer is currently experiencing a network connectivity problem". Now it's telling me there is no problem in spite of the slow connection.
I don't think my wireless adapter is the issue, I'm able to connect to other networks fine. I don't think the router/modem is the issue, there's another computer in the house (that I don't own) as well as my xbox hooked up wireless to it with no problem.

I am having trouble connecting to the internet in Windows Vista Sp2. I have looked in device manager for any type of ethernet device, and I don't see one. I do not have a wireless adapter installed, but when I plug in an Ethernet cord I don't see any type of bubble saying I have new connections. So, i just got a new computer from a friend of mine.It is a couple years old running Vista, but i keep having this problem.I can connect to either of my routers, and i will be fine for about 5-10 mins before it disconnects me from Skype or Yahoo or whatever webpage i am on.The connection icon in the corner doesn't say it is disconnected, but everything disconnects.

I installed windows 7. The internet worked, I was able to access any website. But the keyboard did not work in windows 7. I again installed windows vista, now my keyboard works fine. I had to do a system restore on my laptop and as i tried to restore it a message kept coming up saying Windows failed to start. I read in another forum to reinstall Windows Vista and I did that which restored my laptop to factory settings.
