E4200v2 Router Assigning Arbitrary Ip Addresses To Wired Peripherals?
Feb 13, 2012problem I have encountered with a Cisco E4200v2 router (with current firmware update) which is just over three months old. The other day my internet connection (cable "always on") hiccuped a couple of time (which is not unusual for this area). However, when the service finally restored itself, I lost a PC and printer from my home network, and the ability to connect to the internet with the wired PC. Outages like this are normal in this area and have not had an issue like this before. Both were "wired" via (CAT 5e) cables. The three PC's that were connected via wi-fi were not affected. We switched CAT 5e cables several times with not changed in status. The wired printer and PC were assigned arbitrary ip addresses in the 16X.XXX etc. range. I think that has to do with not being able to communicate with the DHCP server? However, we connected one of the laptops via a CAT 5e cable directly to the router, and it too was assigned an arbitrary ip address. I finally reverted to my old router (LINKSYS WRT160N), and the issue went away. Is this a known E4200v2 issue? Is there a fix or workaround for this? The "wired" PC and two laptops are Windows 7, and the all-in-one is running Vista.I can continue using my WRT16N. But hate to think I wasted good money on this new dual band. Have never had any issues before with Linksy/Cisco before.

When I try to sign on to my school internet service it says CANNOT CONNECT TO DNS SERVER 10.85.1.10. I have tried to diagnose and everything and still have same problem. Jun 4, 2012I have a weird problem with my home network that I'm unable to fix:I have 2 laptops (Lenovo and HP) both connect to the wireless network and show up as Local & Internet connected on the Windows 7 OS. Both can ping to an outside network with domain names but no pages open on the browser. There's no error displayed on the browser, the page just tries to keep loading. When I connect both these laptops over the wire, I'm able to browse through all pages easily. I also have 2 phones connected to the same wireless network and I can browse over internet without any problems.

I want to be able to use my computer wireless without any usbs since it goes faster and I also use plenty of usb so I dont have the ability to always use a usb for my wireless adapter. Nov 28, 2011I have a netgear router and an win xp desktop connected to each other through the ISP modem. The internet works great. Xbox live connected via through the netgear router(access point), works great. Now i just recently bought a power cord for an old laptop, charged it, working fine. Its a Compaq laptop, with a vista OS. My problem is not finding the router and/or connecting to it. I just cant seem to access the internet. It shows local connection only with an unidentified network, but it shows my routers name(LOTUS). There is alittle red X in-between the unidentified network and the internet. I pulled off the ip config/all on the vista laptop.

Since it has been replaced we have been having problems with our connection.We have 1 desktop and 2 laptops the desktop is connected to the modem.
