Cisco :: Draw A Diagram For Network?

Nov 13, 2012

I was trying to draw a diagram for my network, when the following problem occurs. When using "show cdp neighbor" command on my primary core switch i see the proper name and interface # of the attached secondary core switch. However, upon using the "show cdp neigh fa1/1 detail" command (fa1/1 is the port i get that is attached directly to the secondary core switch and is the correct int that is connected to it) i get the wrong ip!!! The ip it gives me is not that of the secondary core switch but is that of the asa firewall!! When i go on the secondary core switch and do the same thing i get the same result but it gives me the ip of the 2nd asa firewall instead.

Notes: I am logged in to the management vlan. Firewall vlan is separate as well. asa is also connected to the switches but on different ports.

I have a problem where clients cannot roam between Cisco 1231g-e-k9 and recently installed cisco 1242g-e-k9 access points..  On looking at the CDP option on the 1231 and 1242 access points they are all aware of each other.  However if I use the Network View option I see a different picture.  All the 1231 access points can see each other but not see the 1242's.  Network View on the1242 shows all the 1231's but none of the 1242's.  The 1231 are running ver. 12.3(8)JEB and the 1242's are running ver. 12.4(21a)JA1.

Access Internet Using Wireless Network And Printer Using Separate Wired Network At Time?

Apr 4, 2012

I have 4 computers (3 laptops, 1 desktop) in a shared office. We get internet access using their wireless network. All works fine. However, I need to share a printer amongst all of the computers. The printer is LAN enabled and I would normally just put all the PCs on a hub, together with the printer and share it that way. BUT my question is can we access the internet using the wireless network and the printer using a separate wired network at the same time?

Windows 7 Laptop With Atheros AR9285 Network Card Can't Connect To Wireless Network?

Aug 21, 2012

This past weekend I went out of town and took my Windows 7 laptop with me -- since I returned home, it has been unable to connect to my wireless network. Other devices in my home connect to the network just fine, and the problem laptop has always been fine until now. My network card is an Atheros AR9285, and I'm attempting to connect to a Medialink router with WPA password protection and AES encryption. My wireless network icon in the task bar has a yellow sign with an exclamation point in it. It says "No Internet access."

Home Network :: Add Printers To Local Wireless Network Without Sharing From Computer

Mar 3, 2012

I have a home network running all Mac computers (though can run Windows VM if necessary) and a pair of USB printers. The wireless router and cable modem are in one room, but the printers are in another. I'd like to find the most practical way to add the printers to the local wireless network without sharing them from a computer. I've tried that for a while, but don't want to leave a laptop connected 24/7 just to enable wireless printing (rather defeats the purpose of a portable computer). I don't have any wired network lines in the home, and am not excited by the idea of running any cables.

Home Network :: Cisco Linksys E1500 - Wireless Security Protocol For Guest Network?

Oct 29, 2012

Having an issue with a Cisco Linksys E1500 on a home network. The device has a feature to provide a guest wireless network but the guest network can't get to the internet. A wired connection is fine, as is the normal wireless network but not the guest. The cheesy thing is, that it doesn't list an option for what type of wireless security protocol you want on the guest network. I'm assuming that it uses the same security protocol that the normal wireless network uses, but who knowsEspecially weird is that it asks you what password you want on the guest network but then the guest network show to be insecure when you try to connectthought maybe it was something funky with some of my configurations so I went ahead and factory defaulted it and just set it up with an insecure network for both the normal and guest networks. This didn't solve it. The guest network still couldn't get to the internet. In fact, the guest network can't even ping the router.

Wireless Network Stuck On Acquiring Network Address And Cannot Renew IP

Jul 5, 2011

A few days ago the internet on my desktop was working fine. now it has the 'limited or no connectivity' sign on it and i have done a few things to try and fix this. I started by trying a simple repair. it comes up with 'the following action can not be completed: Renewing your IP address' This lead me to try and restart my PC and router with no luck.

I then decided to look a bit further into it and went ito CMD and flushed the DNS. i then did 'ipconfig /release' which generated the response 'IP address for adapter wireless connection 9 has allready been released'. I then did 'ipconfig /renew' to which it generated an interestin response:

'An error occurred while renewing interface wireless network connection 9 : The RPC server is unavailable'

I have made sure my DNS client is on automatic, alont with my RPC (this was uneditable). Its not a router problem as i have had multiple devices connected before and my laptop is working just fine connecting wirelessly.

Creating A Secure Wired Network Alongside A Wireless Network?

Oct 10, 2011

I have been involved in the Networking of a museum with a set of "Show" computers which display video, and for this reason cannot have anti virus installed becuase of the performace hit, and also the risk of pop-ups on the videos. They do however need to be connected to the internet as some are interactive and allow people to send simple emails, and they all need to allow remote support when things go wrong. It seems the networking was not thought out very well initially, and there is a single wireless router which serves the staff and public on a secured wireless network, but also serves the "Show" machines via a wired connection from one of its ports, which then connects to a master switch which serves the show machines. Now the wired and wireless is on the same network, and everything shares the same IP subnet (192.168.1.xxx), and this is not a good situation in terms of the securuty of the show machines on the wired network. So I need to work out a way to totally separate the wireless network (which will be very prone to people opening viruses in their emails etc), from the wired network (which will be the show machines which wont be touched by anyone).

I want to achieve this in the simplest and easiest way, and have been reading about the possibility of setting up a second wired router behind the current wireless one, with a different subnet IP address, to which the "Show" machines could be connected. The WAN port on this second router would connect to a LAN port on the wireless router, and thus the show machines could get their internet, but separated from the dangerous wireless network.Does this sound like a sensible start? Will the fact that the wired router (and show machines) are on a completely different subnet to the wireless router (and wireless devices), mean that the wired network will be protected? Or do I need to do more? And is this likely to work?

Routers / Switches :: Unable To Recognize Wireless Network Router On Wireless Laptop?

Jan 15, 2012

One moment the laptop was using the wireless connection from the router in our house and the next it lost internet access and then wasn't able to recognize the SSID or connection at all on the available wireless connections. We have reset the router and restarted the laptop countless times yet the only internet access we have is on the computer the router is hooked up to.The wireless connection works neither on the laptop nor the Wii, both previously works merely hours ago and with no problems until now.We assume there is an issue with the router itself, whether it be a loose ethernet cord (which only faintly can be moved in its place). It's almost as if the router is stopping them (Wii, and laptop) from having access. When we explore the wireless internet properties on the laptop, it shows the wireless connection, yet only there and doesn't give access to it. Could it be the router, or could the company have restricted WiFi only to the computer it is hooked up to?

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Setup On Corporate Network For Wireless Access?

Cisco Wireless :: WAP321 Setting Up Wireless Network For Small Office

Jan 13, 2013

I'm setting up a wireless network for a small office with 25 people with approx. 15 on wireless at any time. The office is very long and skinny so I'm looking at a cluster of WAP321's. I'm hoping these will save a ton of money versus buying a controller and more expensive access points.

How do these work for roaming? I tried a search but I've found descriptions of them not roaming at all and descriptions of them roaming but you have to do some kind of pre-authorization right up to they roam with no user interaction, they just roam.

I need the users to be able to roam around the office with no interruption. I don't want to install these and have to rip them out later and put in new ones and a controller. How to find out if the WAP321's will work for roaming.

Cisco Wireless :: RV180W / WAP121 / SR2016T - Wireless Network Setup

Jul 25, 2012

I recently purchase my first Cisco products for a network for our church. I have a RV180W router, WAP 121 Access Point and a SR2016T switch for our network, which is just pier-to-pier at this point. We have 5 computers connected with ether net through the switch and all see the Internet and work fine. The wireless connection through the router is working fine with our wireless devices (laptops and i Pads). Where I am having issues is with the AP. It is in different area away from the router being powered through POE instead of the regular power connection.

My problem is this: it takes FOREVER to connect to the AP and to the Internet, even when sitting directly under the AP with full signal. Once connected, it appears to allow Internet connection just fine, but getting to that point takes 15-20 minutes sometimes. Also, when I come back the next day, I have NO signal at all, as it seems the AP has "timed out" due to inactivity or something. I have to reboot the AP and the router to get it all back up and running again. I need for the signal to stay up all the time or at least come on when someone connects.

So, what am I doing wrong here? I have recognized and authorized the AP through the router config, security is set up fine and I can see it once it comes up. I have the AP set up as a completely different SSID, although I would prefer to have the AP as merely an extension of the router's wireless network if possible.

Cisco Wireless :: Configure A Wired Guest Network With A Combination Of 5508 And 2504 Wireless Controllers?

Apr 7, 2013

Is there any way to configure a wired guest network with a combination of 5508 and 2504 wireless controllers? I am aware that the 2504 does not have wired guest functionality, however is it possible to set up a wired guest on the 5508 and using mobility anchors, transmit the l2 information through eoip to communicate with the remote vlan?Home built NAC solution, using 802.1x authentication on switchports for public areas. If user is an employee, communicates with the supplicant on their machine, and places them on an internal vlan.If user is a guest, user fails 802.1x check and is placed on a "guest" vlan with an ACL and external DNS.If placed on the guest vlan, the user has to accept a terms of use form. This is working currently with our 5508s without any issue, however we have some remote offices we'd like to roll this out to that are using 2504 controllers. I'm hoping there's a way that I can use the 5508 as an anchor or vice versa to make this work.

Wireless :: Network Settings Do Not Match With Wireless Router Setup

Dec 24, 2011

even though I have successfully added the network manually, using the same settings as my other laptop which has no trouble connecting. So now, the network appears in my "Connect to a wireless network" box, but whenever I try to connect, it says "Windows cannot connect to *name of network*" So when I troubleshoot the problems, it states "Check your wireless settings. Make sure your computer is in range of *Network* and that the network settings match the wireless router or access point settings." I KNOW it's in range because my other computer is connected properly right next to this one. So it must be a problem with my network settings. Though I don't see how that can be because my settings on both computers are exactly the same, but one's connected and one's not. Could the problem simply be that I haven't logged on to my router online to add this computer to the network?

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G Connecting To Wireless Network?

Jul 30, 2009

I've been having a ton of problems with fixing my connection with my wireless network.  A few months ago, I lost connection on my desktop computer and I reconnected... however, it didn't actually connect.  When I hovered my cursor over the Wireless Network Connection icon, it just said "Acquiring Network Address" and never connected.  I got onto my laptop and did a quick search on the problem.  A few wrong moves later, and I couldn't even find my wireless network.

Despite all of my attempts at creating a connection, I still have no internet.  I've even tried plugging my computer into my WRT54G router via cable, and still no connection.  It's not the router that's the problem, though, as my two other computers and xbox have perfect internet connection.

I use Windows XP, I use a WRT54G router, I have Mediacom high speed internet, and that's about all I know.
