Jan 12, 2012
I've recently just moved house and we got Virgin Media 50mgs broadband installed with their wireless super hub which is also a Netgear product. However I first noticed up in my room I have weak signal on my wireless devices I have my Dell laptop, xbox 360 and desktop pc with wifi card.I researched this and went out and bought a Netgear wireless extender:
[code]...
Now this does work it gives me excellent signal but it keeps dropping the connection which is extremely frustrating when playing the xbox or on an online game on the pc.I contacted Netgear and all they suggested was updating the firmware

Ok, I have a huge problem with my wireless connection. It will constantly lose connection to the internet from my PC, IPod, Laptop etc. What will happen is a yellow warning triangle appears which tells me I've lost internet access. I have had the modem checked and replaced by the ISP with no success so it's likely that it's not a problem on their end. I've changed the wireless channel to move it away from my neighbours with no success.
Here is a copy of my ipconfig /all when the connection dropped out:

I´m working with the WLC 8500 and 7 AP 1550; we already setup this equipments since last year, working without a problem, because there was not much traffic (This WLAN is working on a university). a few months ago we began to experiment a few drop connections from one AP, but 2 days ago, all AP are having drop connection all the time, with latency of more than one thousand miliseconds.
We checked the setup again, and all seens fine, the only thing that we are not sure is about the "load profile" from the 2.4Ghz frecuency, is changing continiously from passed to failed.
All the AP are working as root (no mesh network), all of them are in local mode, they are working at 2.4Ghz, all AP are using the same VLAN (just one).

I’ve bought a router, and a wireless antenna for my laptop, since I have a high-speed internet outlet in the living room, but I use my laptop in the kitchen (I don’t have any other pc). So I’ve configured my Linksys WRT120N router in the living room, unplugged the ethernet cable from my laptop, plugged the wireless antenna in the kitchen, and everything was working fine with the wireless network. After about one month I was not able anymore to enter my network with the security key, there was actually no prompt for the security key, just a message “Cannot connect to the network”. I then had to reconfigure the router, going to the router IP address (I used the default settings, a blank for username, and “admin” as a password, as per instructions), use another network name, security key and password, and was able to start again a wireless network with the wireless antenna as before. This problem represented other 3 times (in the last 3 months), and was working fine, but now I cannot reconfigure the router anymore, since the IP address doesn’t accept BLANK/ADMIN anymore, and if I go ahead and reconfigure the router a message says I have to use the default settings in the IP address…

I see a lots of problem associated with wirless connectivity with WRVS4400N, with following config
Firmware version - Firmware Version: V1.1.13
Wireless connectivity - G/N Mixed
Auth - WPA2 AES
Everything else default and AUTO,
Problem:The end devices suddenly drop connection. Wired connection works just fine. The DROPPED device can not be reconnected. On MAC I get AUTH time out. I see the SSID being broadcasted from my HTC wireless analyster so radio may not be the problem. I changed to set the speed to G only or N only but not avail. ONLY way to recover from this is rebooting the router.

Ok so I have a Netgear dg834gb v2 and I have a disconnecting problem on a wireless connection for my laptop. When I am using my laptop, my connection will drop at random moments mostly when I'm playing League of Legends. If I'm not playing it rarely disconnects. It drops for about 10 seconds and comes back up usually, but sometimes I have to reset the router. It only recently started happening and I have no idea why. Maybe it can't handle when I'm playing?

I purchased a WRT110 router about a 18 months ago. I am currently experiencing an issue where the wireless connection to the router will become randomly erratic. My internet connection will slow down or drop entirely. Sometimes my laptop will disconnect from the router entirely. I don't think it's the wireless card in my laptop since I have seen the issue on my desktop using a wireless N USB adapter, my Nintendo Wii, and my wife's Macbook, all within the last week.
I am positive it is the router. I set up a coninuous ping command to the router accross my laptop's wireless using "ping -t 192.168.2.1" in a command prompt. Most of the time, the round trip is 1 to 3 ms or <1 ms. When I am experiencing the connection issues, the ping time will rise significantly, sometimes going as high as 2000 - 3000 ms. About 25% of time, the ping will just time out. When this starts happening, the only way I have been able to restore proper connectivity is to manually reboot the router. The issue eventually re-appears. Sometimes in a few days, sometimes in as little as five minutes. I've gone so far as to restore the router to factory defaults and reconfigure it, but that has not made a difference.

I currently have an issue with the wireless internet at home whilst watching videos, playing online games, completing homework etc... On the computers working over the wireless network there seems to be a randomly occurring drop out of the internet. My home network connection looks to be solid, but the internet drops out for around 5-10 seconds and then comes back. Here is a screenshot from Xirrus the wifi inspector program from the pc in my room connected via the network:[URL]The home network (Munasinghe and family) had a signal of -78 dBm.The second signal, Optus (name of ISP) wifi had a signal of -85 dBm. This signal value often decreases or disappears altogether.

I have experienced some strange behavior of WiFi connection using WRT320N router. ISP provides me the internet in 2 modes (day and night). During day mode max speed is 24 Mb/s and during night 60 MB/s. Modem ADSL (Cisco EPC3010) is connected to Linksys WRT320N and on router is configured WiFi.Now issue. In the day mode everything is perfect. Cable connection gives me 24 MB/s and WiFi connection around 22 MB/s so not so bad. However when my internet speeds up to 60 Mb/s (cable connection via router gives exactly 60), WiFi connection instead speed up as well, just drop to max 17 Mb/s. I have tied several different settings on the router including changes in WiFi band, channel width, different channels (now channel is setup to 1 which is maybe not totally free but no so occupied) and others but unfortunately without significant improvement (in many cases connection just slowed down more).
And some details:
Wireless configuration (now)
Band: 2.4GHz
Mode: Wireless-N only
Channel Width: Auto (20MHz or 40 MHz)
Channel: 1
Wireless adaptor: Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 (I know that this doesn’t mean anything but Win7 shows that connection is established with speed 144MB/s)Router firmware and WiFi card updated to the newest version.

After an upgrade of the WRT120N to firmware Ver.1.0.06 (Build 01) every device I have tried to use WPA authentication with will authenticate / associate with the device then drop the connection just prior to recieving a DHCP address.I have tried a Dell latitude laptop with the broadcom chipset, an iPhone 3GS as well as an motorola with google pad device and all experience the same problems.I have removed all mac address filtering, and re-enabled the essid broadcasting only to have the same problem persist despite stripping everything down to just WPA.

Up until recently (4 months ago) my network was fine. However, all of a sudden the network began to drop randomly. Now, the network drops about every 30 mins. Its quite an inconvenience, especially as there are two laptops, a desktop and 2 games consoles running off of the network (not all at once though). I have a Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO router.

I have several E4200 routers deployed in our library district. In one branch, we have been having sporadic problems with computers not being able to maintain a connection. Typically the computer will connect and then the connection will drop and Windows will display the yellow error triangle on the wifi signal strength display.I have swapped the router with another brand new E4200 with the latest firmware but am still having this problem.

I have a Lenovo T420 with a Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 wireless network card that causes me some headache. It randomly gets disconnected from my router (Zyxel P-2601HN-F1) and home network, works fine though if i using cable. Right after it gets disconnected it reconnects and works fine until it gets disconnected again. I have an HP laptop connected at the same time and no problems there. It works fine in the network in our office (work laptop). I tried our IT dept but they were clueless and told me I had to figure it out by myself, as it works in the office..

I am looking for a wireless router with the following features for less than $80.
Gigabit Ethernet
802.11n 300Mbps
Open source firmware support (optional)
I found a few of these on newegg but all of them have reviews which claim that these routers drop the wireless signal every so often and need to be reset. I have a router that has the exact same problem but it is very old now and so I understand. But a new router with this problem is not acceptable.

A lot of times our users will have a bad connection from where they are connecting in from. Their Internet connection will drop and the VPN Client disconnects but on our Cisco ASA5520, the connection will still be connected and when their Internet connections comes back, they are not able to connect as the session is still up on the 5520. Is there a way to make the connection clear quicker? I have IKE Keepalives on the RA Profile (Confidence 300 seconds, Retry Interval 2 seconds) but it seems to keep the session longer than that. Is there anything I can do to make the connection clear quicker?

We've had Cisco 1252 APs running on PoE (3750E gives the port 20W of power) for well over 3 years with no problems. These have not been touched, moved or configured since they went in.
All of sudden we're seeing these APs drop off the network and investigations reveal that they show as IEEE PD when you do a show power inline.
Some of these are slated to be replaced after the ports were changed, the cables replaced and port reset (also an old spare 1252 was inserted in to one of these ports and it came up fine, indicating an issue with these APs).
If it was one or two then maybe I could believe that the APs are at fault, but with so many (10 so far) I'm struggling to believe it. Could it be the code we are running on the switches? We are running 12.2(50)SE3.

I have been having a lot of trouble lately with my wireless network. Basically, under certain situations it will constantly drop out, by which I mean all computers will lose connection with the wireless network for about 30 seconds and then reconnect. This is happening with two different wireless routers so I don't exactly know what is happening. I usually use a Linksys WRT54GS v7 but after this started happening I borrowed a friend's Linksys WRT54G2 v1 router to test it out with no change. I also updated both router's firmware last week, and changed both router's channels to 1 in case that was a part of the problem. To clarify, only one router is being used at a time, I have just tried different steps with each one.The other day when it was happening repeatedly, I connected one of the computers directly to the modem and had no problems so I do not think it has anything to do with my modem. On the network, depending on the time of day, there will be any combination of three macbooks running the latest version of snow leopard and one older PC running Windows XP. The network can drop out with only the PC, no PC, or any combo of macs. There can also be two iPhones and a Blackberry using the wireless depending on who is home. The most consistent problems seem to occur whenever something is being uploaded. We seem to get major issues when my wife is sending relatively large files (5MB+) using her macbook's mail program (either sending through gmail or her work address). However, yesterday it was happening every 30 seconds when someone was talking on skype on her macbook while there were two other macbooks connected to the network but doing nothing more than using a browser for basics like google.I have also noticed that this will often happen, though usually only once rather than repeatedly, when a computer that hasn't been on is turned on.

Wireless clients drop off Netgear router - Running a Netgear router in home. Have one desktop PC, 2 printers, 1 Mac and 3 Windows laptop connected. The devices that connect wirelessly will drop of the router in a random way. One printer, an HP all in one, will no longer function and I have to pull the plug to de-energize and restart it. My wireless network is a mess. I have called Netgear and for the first two months they had me change channels and adjust other settings which seemed to work at first but then these symptoms all came back.

There are three RT-N56U routers in my family. I have one as does my dad and uncle. Bought all 3 about a year ago. They've been rock solid since.
However, my dad has been complaining of network issues, mainly lag and slow response. During Christmas yesterday, I took some time to troubleshoot it which ended in disaster. He was on an older firmware so I had updated it. After the update, the wireless would drop every 5-10 minutes after the router rebooted. I tried rolling back the firmware and there is still the same issue.I reboot the router, wireless comes up and within 10 minutes, the wireless is down.
Most of the clients on the network are iDevices. There are two iPod Touches, 4 iPad Mini's and iPad, two iPhones and an Apple TV, all wireless. Other than that, there is a PS3 and a bunch of wired clients. Looking in the routers logs, it appears that at least one device keeps requesting a DHCP request even though it has an address. Then at some point, the router spits out this error in the log: [code]
That error just keeps counting up, starting at 1 -- Based on google info it's related to wireless drops due to ASUS firmware issue with certain wireless cards. My guess is one of the new devices has a card that they don't support, causing this issue. I was stating to think, since he has so many iDevices on his network, an Airport Extreme?

I have had an e4200 for about a month now and its been pretty good. But I have noticed that it completely locks up when I go to copy mass amounts of data through it. I have a NAS drive plugged into it and my laptop is on the 2.4 spectrum. I went to transfer 8gigs of data from laptop to NAS drive and the entire wireless portion of the router locks up. All my wireless clients drop and I have to unplug the router and plug it back in. Even the 5ghz clients drop as well. I have not tried hardwire, but the main reason I got this was for its throughput.

I purchased this router a few months ago(wrt54g2 v1.0) when I moved into st louis missouri. My ISP is charter communications. I am using windows 7 64 bit.I had no problems with this router with wired connections, however my wireless devices would drop repeatedly. I updated the firmware to the latest linksys version, but still same issue. After much research online and trying everything I could through linksys, I found a page that someone with the same problem said it could be solved by upgrading to dd-wrt freeware firmware. After much trials and problems, I finally got it installed. However I did not like dd-wrt because it would not allow FTP access no matter what i tried, and would lead to dropouts of wired connetions even though it did fix the wireless.I then decided to revert back to the previous firmware - this is where i think i messed up..I downloaded tftp and a firmware called vxworkskiller, this was supposed to be able to break the dd-wrt firmware which it did, and removed it. I continued to follow the instructions provied to me and was able to then install the linksys firmware but I accidentally upgraded the firmware for the router WRT54GS with the firmware version 7.50.2. This is now dropping both wired and wireless connections VERY frequently. My roomate is not happy as we have to power cycle the modem, router and pc's every couple of hours and sometimes that doesn't even work.I am unable to flash firmware of any version or type anymore, every upgrade fails weither I use the linksys gui, or tftp or any previously working firmware. All fail.

I have 3 devices connected to the e4200v2 via etherent, out of the 3, only my Xbox has drop about every 15-30 minutes. I have tried Cisco customer service 4 times and Xbox customer service 3 times with absolutely no luck. They both tell me that all of my setting are correct and there is nothing more that can be done.
I have tried everything that I can think of: Port triggering, port forwarding, DMZ, UPnP enabled/disable, power cycling everything, putting Xbox as Qos high priority, designating a static IP for the Xbox, clear the Xbox's cache twice, I even formatted my Xbox's hard drive in case of corrupt data. The Xbox does not disconnect when connected directly to the modem, making the router the common denominator. I am on the verge of returning the router.

I'm pretty new to networking. Purchased a E4200 for my home line. When i connect directly through the modem i see speeds of about 600mbps but when i connect through the router via an ethernet cable on an empty port on the back of my e4200 my speeds drop to about 180mbps. I expected a speed loss going through wireless but why i am experiencing a speed loss by using the ethernet as a passthrough? I thought the ethernet ports on the e4200 were gigabit and support up to 1000mbps?

We have a number of 1552e's deployed as RAP / MAPs, using a 5508 WLC. All those are working fine.I have a few requirements for an outdoor access point... not a RAP or MAP, but just a simple outdoor AP. I assume that if I use a 1552e for that requirement, I would place the mode in local, rather than in bridge mode, correct ? Also, a question on mac filtering. When setting up the mac filter, there is a drop down selection for "interface name". The radios seem to work fine with "none" selected, so I'm confused about what exactly that selection is doing. Is it simply a reference lable, or does it actually have a purpose?

So here's my issue, I just bought this EA4500 so I could use the 5.0 Ghz and get a new 2.4Ghz as my old Netgear would drop the signal on a fairly regular basis. I've set the channel on 2.4 to 1, 20 Mhz Channel, and my neighbors are for the most part using channels 6 and 11 (one guy is using channel 2 at 40Mhz but has a very low signal strength). The signal drops out sometimes as often as every 5 minutes, and now it is doing it on my new router. Here's the kicker, the 2.4 band falls out from my router and some of my neighbor's routers, no new signal seems to come up, but the 5.0 band on the EA4500 is just fine, as is the wired route. Is the 2.4 band just being assaulted at my home and I'll have to deal with it, or is it that my new router, old router, and my neighbor's routers, all suck, and we should all get refunds? Any solutions to troubleshoot this beyond running a netstumbler like software, setting hard channels (including width), and long hours of trial and error? I am running this all from my macbook air, the 5.0Ghz is at 40Mhz, is the only signal, and is on a fixed channel.
