Wireless Connection Drops Constantly On Second Laptop?
Nov 4, 2012
Been searching threads here and all over google. I have DSL thru Century Link.Router is Zyxel pk5001z. 2 laptops being used. ( well, they were until my MB fried out.) My laptop has Win 7, my girlfriends has Vista.- Dell inspiron 1525. Only had the service for about 2 mo's. My laptop was working fine wirelessly. Hers drops constantly.Currently hers is the only one being used.Sometimes shows the red x, other times just local only.- Drops and reconnects within seconds. I have set channel to 6 and 11. disabled IPC 6 in laptop adapter, uninstalled/reinstalled wireless card in device manager, checked for newer driver, checked for firmware upgrade in modem, set to g/n only, ( no option for G only) connection strenth is full. No wirless phones, no close neighbors, etc. I have read posts indicating the routers are junk, other posts saying Vista has issues with certian routers, but nothing that pinpoints my exact problem. Also, just re-loaded Vista the other day.

My computer is a Toshiba Sattelite o/s win 7. My wi fi signal is excellent, yet my signal keeps dropping or saying limited access.I have tried resetting the router and resetting my default windows settings on the computer. All other lap tops and wireless devices in the house do not have an issue.I discovered the other day as long as the laptop ( not the router) is plugged in and not running on batter power that i do not have a problem staying connected. For fun i wondered if it had something to do with the power cord making some kind of connection when plugged into the lap top, (since everything is more compact in them)I tried having the power cord plugged into the lap top but not into a power source but I still lost signal.

I just recently purchased a Lenovo Ideapad U310. I'm very satisfied with everything about it... except for one little problem. It constantly drops the wireless connection, unless I'm in the same room as the router. If I'm in the same room, everything runs super fast, however, if I'm across the house or upstairs (the router is downstairs), it'll drop connection every 20-30 minutes. The weird thing is, other devices (4 laptops & 3 iPhones) work just fine. Even my old HP laptop has fine connection upstairs, so I'm starting to think it's a problem with my laptop's wireless card.Another thing that makes me think it's the laptop's problem... I was with my dad at a public library using their wifi the other day. The card is Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200. I've updated the driver directly from the Intel website, but no luck. I've tried changing channels, no luck. I'm not sure what else I can do. Is it just simply because the laptop has a weak wireless network card? It can't be the router's problem right? Since all other devices work?I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel Core i5, and since the laptop is new, I haven't downloaded/installed anything that may have brought in a virus.

DLink 655 Fully Upgraded Firmware Multiple Laptops have the same issue, each has a different O/S from OSX to xp, vista and win 7. As soon as any laptop tries to download files, youtube, even web pages... There is nothing wrong with my wired connection. The thing is, each laptop gets disconnected then almost instantly reconnected. It is very annoying. The only thing I have found to fix it is turning off my wireless security completely. This is unacceptable! I am a computer scientist and in the security field. Ive tried WEP with both key sizes, WPA-Personal is what I originally was using before I started changed settings.

I have the WRT400N router and using windows 7 (on this computer). It works perfectly with any computer I use in the house (there's 3). As soon as I open a laptop, its connected. My iPhone (we have 2) and an iTouch, are a different story. They connect, stay connected sometimes for 5 minutes, sometimes 5 hours, then will drop the connection out of nowhere. It doesn't matter how close or far I am from the router. Sometimes I'll get a message that I have an incorrect password (which it's not, which is why it DOES work). Sometimes I don't get a message at all (on the phones I'll just notice its on E/3G). Now, looking through the database I noticed there is a program for the valet routers that lets you add the phones, yet this doesn't apply to mine.
The tech in live chat told me it was the phones. I know its not as I had a wireless modem before this, and I never once lost a signal or had it ask me for an incorrect password.

Often my router drops connection to all my devices. Multiple times a day. It's only for a minute or so, but it's annoying. I'm using a Linksys Wireless-N router (WRT160N) with WEP encryption. I'm running two Windows 7 laptops, LG BluRay player, Apple TV, Xbox 360 (Wired) iPhone 4, and a iPad 2. It doesn't matter if I'm browsing the web, watching Netflix, or playing a game, the connection gets lost. As we speak it happened again. I have no clue on what to do. I've reconfigured it multiple times. Firmware has been updated months ago.

I have recently purchased a Belkin n300 wireless N router. The problem is, I have to reboot the thing numerous times throughout the day to allow a client to connect to it via wireless. One client will be connected and then drop, or a client will be connected, and I cannot connect another device. I also had an issue with streaming over wireless for netflix on my devices and the only way I could get it to work was to turn off the firewall, what the hek.... This is crap. I knew I should not have bought a belkin router again. Had one years ago and it constantly gave me issues. Had my Linksys Wrt54G for years with no problems until it finally crapped out. Anyways, my firmware version is the latest version according o the website.

My laptop loses connection to the router.... constantly. When it disconnects I check my available networks and the laptop will not pick up any... neighbors or my own, I refresh they show up ...I have my network set as the preferred so it will always attempt to reconnect when available; Sometimes it starts to reconnect then drops off and cannot see available networks again! If I am able to reconnect... Sometimes I don't even have time to refresh my browser before it disconnects again; however sometimes I stay connected for hours at a time, other times/days just can't stay connected very long and becomes so frustrating that I just shut down the laptop and say "Fahgetaboutit"
I thought it was the network driver and a intel has an update(even though my LT doesn't show that I need it), I downloaded the update first knowing that I would be with out internet service after removing the old driver software but the new software installation always gives an error that it cannot install with older version present even after I'm sure I've removed it ... Not sure what to do... I ran cmd: ipconfig /all>network.txt&network.txt and here is the result of that straight from the activated notepad:

I set up my new E2500 last week, and it works fantastic with every device (iPad, 2 iPhones, iMac, DLink usb, ...) EXCEPT my iMac. That connects, but loses the connection very frequently (say at least every half hour) and I need to turn wifi off and on to get it to reconnect.
I've ensured that the iMac has all system updates, and I've checked that the E2500 is the latest firmware.
I've reverted to my old WRT54G for now, I'll have to return the E2500 if it won't work consistently with the iMac.

My E4200 seems to be dropping connections throughout the day. For wireless it'll still show full signal and connection, but there will be no internet activity for about a minute. Then after a minute things will work just fine again. For wired I notice it in my XBox mainly when I get dropped from games as constant as the wireless drops.I believe my modem isn't the problem since the old router never dropped connections on the hard wired devices. Occasionally my old D-Link router would drop wireless, but never this frequent,I am running 1.0.02. I've rebooted the router/modem several times. I even reinstalled the entire setup with the current version of Cisco Connect as the tech person suggested, but still no luck. The first week or so using this router was flawless, but ever since then it's been dropping connections several times throughout the day to any device connected (wireless or wired). The problem seems that the router just hiccups the connection very quickly, so quickly that Windows doesn't even recognize the connection has been lost, but long enough to drop a multiplayer game on XBox or to have me mashing refresh on my internet browsers.

I have a problem with my Lenovo y560. One of the members here had the same prob. but his thread is closed,so i can't write him anymore. PM also doesn't work.[URL]"...I have a Lenovo Y560 that worked fine up excepting a keyboard issue that I fixed based on a youtube posting. The fix was to tape a small piece of antistatic tape under the keyboard over a screwlike piece of metal. Apparently that metal was causing static by rubbing against the keyboard data cable. It fixed the problem. Previous to the fix, various keyboard keys prompted shortcut keys (maddening and couldn't type). After assembling the keyboard and the top of the keyboard pad (was very careful to not bring static and assemble properly), the wireless connection began to drop. I have another laptop (Asus) with a similar set-up but a Centrino wifi card (vs. Intel 1000 bgn for the Lenovo) and it was connecting to the wifi no problem. Often, I'll see a yellow sun symbol over the wifi bars or a blue animated circle or a red x. Changing the standard settings does not work. Attaching an ethernet cable brings up a perfect connection.
1) I've covered an antenna of some sort with the anti-static plastic (pea-sized piece).
2) My wifi card is bad and coincidentally went out when I fixed the other problem above.
3) When the keyboard problem existed, I hit a shortcut that reconfigured the wifi somehow (but it worked fine before I opened up the keyboard.

I have a brand new E4200 with two desktop computers using it with no problems. I also have a work Thinkpad laptop that I use a couple of times a week from home. Since day one of installing the new router, I have experienced the blue screen of death numerous times during the day (the number of times varies from 1 to 6 on a really bad day). I believe this is happening when I lose my connection to the router. I can see it trying to reestablish itself but the VPN will drop the connrection before it has a chance. I never lost my VPN connection until the day I installed the new router. Yesterday, at least one time it was unable to reestablish connectivity with the router and I had to reboot the laptop to get it connected. Could this have something to do with the IP address? I do not have any issues with the laptop when I am at work using a docking station.
So, I am wondering why I am constantly losing connectivity on the laptop only. The laptop has Windows XP and I am using AT&T Global Network Client to access the work network. Is there a setting somewhere that will fix this? Our IT folks rebuilt my laptop and I am still experiencing the same problem. I checked and I have the current version of the firmware for the router.

so upstairs is where my 2wire router is, with a steady 54 mbps signal speed and a excellent signal strength for any computer upstairs, BUT any computer downstairs will have the signal strength goes from 1 through 24 mbps alot. Now, I do have other computers connected to the router, none are taking up the speed, and all have the same signal strength. All of these computers are upstairs as well.I know for a fact it isn't the computer, since when my computer was upstairs it would work fine, but with everything exactly the same it'll be horrible downstairs.Only things I have thought of might be interference... but have zero idea how to find what would be causing the interference if any exist.

New laptop, connected to my home network which is very stable and has no history of connection issues. After about 10 seconds the laptop drops the connection. Sometimes it'll come back for a while sometimes not, haven't observed any pattern in this yet, All I've done since starting the computer for the first time is installed all the junk that comes with it (Nero stuff mostly) and installed all windows updates (there were over 60 of them) and AVG Free edition. Before doing all that the connection was still not right but it did hold for a lot longer than 10 seconds. It held for over an hour downloading programs like Itunes, AVG and Firefox, Going to control panel > network sharing centre when the connection is down I see the yellow exclamation mark between my computer and my network. Troubleshooting this resets the network adapter, gives me the error 'The default gateway is not available' and says that it is fixed. The connection then works again for about 10 seconds and drops once more.

my laptop, which connects fine to all other wireless networks, has trouble on this one. It can browse the web all day, but the second a large file begins to transfer (video, a file download, etc.) it will drop the connection randomly, usually rather quickly. The computer does not need to be restarted to reconnect, it often reconnects on its own near-immediately, though sometimes I have to go to the system tray and reconnect manually.I thought it was too far from the router, but my tower in the same room connects flawlessly, and going in to the same room as the router doesn't work. This same laptop has been fine on every other network, and every other computer is fine on this network. I've web crawled off and on about this for months, but no one's problem is limited to one computer/network combination.

I've been having this problem for several months now and I've tried most of the "solutions" on this forum and many others to no success. This casually varies from day to day and even over the course of a day, sometimes I can go a week at a time without any problem and then other times I'll spend an entire weekend not getting any luck. Essentially my wireless connection will randomly cut out with severely different periods of time inbetween, can happen every few hours or every 10 minutes and as said on different days. Most of the time I have to restart my PC or power cycle to get it to start to work again but also some times It'll automatically reconnect after 5-10 seconds or a few minutes.
As I'm sure you've heard a thousand times this is extremely frustrating when browsing the web or trying to download a large file and constantly being interrupted. My kids who live downstairs and have their own PC's in their room don't have this problem, one is using a wired connection and the other a wireless. As I've stated it only started a few months ago and I've had this PC for a year and a half and the router nor the PC have not changed position in the house or had any drastic changes to either of them.

Im currently living downstairs from the router. Its in a "secure location." Long story short, the person I live with is very private about the particular room its located in. I know the router is a "N" model Linkys.I installed the software that came with the PCI adapter (NETGEAR N300) and everything seemed smooth, then I constantly kept dropping connection. I then assumed the driver needed updating so I uninstalled the driver and re-downloaded the recommended driver from the netgear website,Things to know:
-I don't do any heavy gaming
-When I disable and reable the PCI adapter driver from device manager I can reconnect to the internet rather quickly.
-When uploading a video to youtube I found the connection to be more stable, but slower. (could of been a coincidence)
Currently I've been running "TCP view" to try to find something in the background taking bandwidth. I searched all the applications that it lists and nothing seems to be abnormal.

Ok, I have a huge problem with my wireless connection. It will constantly lose connection to the internet from my PC, IPod, Laptop etc. What will happen is a yellow warning triangle appears which tells me I've lost internet access. I have had the modem checked and replaced by the ISP with no success so it's likely that it's not a problem on their end. I've changed the wireless channel to move it away from my neighbours with no success.
Here is a copy of my ipconfig /all when the connection dropped out:

I'm using a Sierra wireless 4g aircard for internet access, the ISP is Clearwire. Normally it works fine with no problems, but a few days ago I started getting a connectivity issue. When playing games, even games that don't use the internet connection at all, and ONLY playing games (it's fine as I type this, I'm even dling something in the background), the connection will be lost, and the thing will immediately reaquire the signal and reconnect, the whole process takes like 20 seconds. The result is it's impossible to play games, I get 10k ms lag spikes every couple minutes that last for about 30 seconds, and if I'm playing most server based games (Steam Source games) I just get disconnected outright.

I purchased this computer earlier today and was excited to get it home and get it up and running. It seemed to run fairly well for the first hour or so but a little while after i began to download League of Legends and games through Steam, the wireless connection became nigh un-usable. It cuts out constantly, and when it is online the speeds are ridiculously slow.
I am typing this from my 4 year old laptop, which is having no issue at all with my connection, roughly 6 inches from where my brand new Dell is, so location surely isn't the issue. I tried closing Steam and just letting LoL finish downloading, but that had no effect. I have turned my laptop off but it made no difference. I have of course tried restarting the router - nothing. I'm very disappointed, since online gaming is the number one reason I chose this PC.

I have a Linksys WRT120N wireless router that I have had for almost three years now. It recently has started dropping all internet connections very randomly, sometime multiple times in an hour. I will lose my connection to the internet and connection locally to other laptops then it will reconnect. It is also disconnecting when wired as well as I have a playstation using a wired connection out of the router and it loses connection all the time as well. What is causing this, I am pretty sure it is the router and not my internet service.

Even when connected via an Ethernet cable the problem persists.I have kinda contained the problem to his laptop or the router they are using because the other laptop they have never disconnects and works perfectly fiine.

After years of my laptop running flawlessly, I've started having major problems connecting to my router/the internet.I noticed the problems started happening after I did a huge 14gb download.. My computer constantly but randomly disconnects for random intervals of time. If I'm lucky it'll connect just fine, but once it disconnects, it'll most likely not work for quite some time. The other computers/cellphones/etc aren't having any problems with connecting, and it's only my laptop.Sometimes it seems to go on a "Identifying...(Name) No internet access" loop, or it connects to the router, but I get no internet access. And whenever I troubleshoot it, I never get a consistent reason as to why it isn't working. The laptop is an Asus running Windows 7..

I setup a D-Link DIR-825, VB1, Firmware V2.00NA about a month ago. We have 3 Macs here at home - 1 brand new iMac, a G4 Powerbook, and an old G4 / 933 Tower. The G4 tower is connected via ethernet. The other two through Wi-Fi. My problem is that I can barely use the internet for even a few minutes on the G4 tower, connected via Ethernet, without losing my connection. I can be in the middle of loading a page or an image, and suddenly it will say "Waiting for xxx.com". Then if I try to go to Google.com or something I will invariably get "Looking up xxx.com". The connection usually returns on it's own, but it can take up to 3 or 5 minutes. When I get this message on the ethernet G4 tower, I will also have lost connection on the wireless Macs. For the first couple of weeks the tower was not connected and we were just using the two wireless Macs, and they were working well. It seems that as soon as I hooked up the G4 tower via ethernet, connections became very flaky and intermittent all of a sudden. All the Macs are configured for DHCP. We have a Time Warner cable modem. The G4 tower had previously been used at my office with it's own dedicated DSL modem / router, and it worked flawlessly for months at a time without dropping a connection. I've tried rebooting the modem, then the router, then turning all the Macs back on, several times. Same result. I just tried loading the new firmware but it didn't work. Said the Gateway was too crowded or something.

We have a wireless router with about 8 devices connecting to it at any one time. For some reason, 1 laptop constantly loses internet service, it's still connected to the network but it's "local only" connection. Restarting the laptop doesn't solve the problem, only restarting the router. Now, I know very little about this kind of stuff, but to me it seems like an issue with IP addresses? It currently happens at least once a day.
