Block Torrent Programs In WRT120N Router?
Jul 24, 2011
I have the linksys WRT120N router and I want to block torrent programs, so that everybody can enjoy fast browsing with the modest but expensive package we are using in our remote location. How can I make certain that no one will be able to use them and abuse the internet?
It has to do with page of the router:
[URL]
But don't torrent programs use random ports?

I want to block all program from accessing internet except one. I can do it using Windows Firewall but some programs doesn't get blocked!
And the list is too big to block them one by one (some programs doesn't get unchecked to block them).
I play online game (Counter Strike:CZ) that lags after some intervals (that lag is my actual problem) so i want to stop every app to access internet except my game.

If I try to set a torrent download to write directly to the USB drive on my E3000, it only works for a few minutes (at low speeds) and then I lose access to the drive and the torrent stops. I can access the drive again less than a minute afterwards.
It'd be handy to be able to write torrents straight to the USB drive instead of having to move the completed files to it after the torrent is finished.

I'm not entirely sure what's going on. I run 4 computers on this network, 2 Windows Xp, 1 Windows 7, and 1 Linux. All of which cannot access AIM, Gchat, and Minecraft(lol). I have no idea what would cause this, I run DD-WRT on my router(Linksys WRT-54G). I've checked all ports and I don't have anything blocked. I seriously need to fix this because I use AIM for my work. I can't even get into AIM Express which is web-based(tells me to check my network connection.

I'm using DIR-655 A5 (A4 in configuration page), with firmware 1.35W. My Internet connection is about 100/100 Mbps, through fiber optic. The problem is that when I'm downloading torrents, sometimes DIR-655 becomes unanswerable, no Internet connection and I can't access the config page. The only way to solve this, is to restart the router.

My problem is that whenever I leave a torrent downloading for a few hours (using a wireless connection), my internet connection drops, both wired and wireless. I have to power cycle the modem and router to get things working again. When I plug my computer in with an ethernet cord and leave a torrent downloading, the connection doesn't drop.

I buy this model is QOS, I just read a lot of DIR-655 streamengine article, it's hardware-base QOS router, can operate under heavy p2p application, it's why I am here. The wireless Client is ACER AS1810TZ laptop, the wireless card is Intel wifi link 1000, I have already disable power saving option. AS1810TZ worked fine with my old 802.11G router linksys WRT54GS and Buffalo WRH-HP-54G.The dir 655 seems fine when I just surfing web and download some files with IE, but when I check the statistics, I see a lot of wireless error and tx packet/ rx packet dropped, the percent I calculate is about 0.5%, I am wondering if it's normal phenomenal? When I download several bit torrent files With XUNLEI simultaneously, total 6 files, after 3 minutes, lot of session be created, the router slow down the download and finally crashed, wan be reset and wireless connection lost. router can recover after 1 minutes and try to continue the BT download again, but failed again. I can connect to the internet through the browser (firefox, ie). i can also perform updates or connect through utorrent. Still, there are many programs that cannot connect and i don't think they need any kind of port forwarding. For example, avast cannot update, BS player and media player classic cannot connect to the subtitles database etc. I tried uninstalling any security related software:comodo firewall, avast antivirus, adaware, spybot and the problem persists. obviously, there is something blocking their access.

I have internet access, but some programs, like Eve online (an internet based game) and Steam (a game download platform) cannot connect. They aren't being blocked by the firewall because i took the firewall down and they still could not connect.

I've noticed the modem becomes unresponsive under use with torrents and only thing that works is to turn it off & on from power button then works for a few more minutes then crashes again on the latest firmware.

I've changed nothing between the time these programs connected perfectly fine to the time they stopped working which was about 9 hours or so, got home from college and everything was messed... The list of prgrams that won't connect properly are: Skype, World of warcraft, Steam The ones that do work are: firefox, Curse, Teamspeak, MSN
I've run malware bytes and spybot S&D twice and 1 time for each in safe mode, they found 2 files which were not even much fo a threat, after removing them this problem still happens
My step dad can run steam and skype fine on his machine which is on the same connection as me and we both use Ethernet cables in the same router I've disabled my firewall to see if that makes a change, and nothing did

Can't connect to sites such as this GamersFirst Forums -> International APB Reloaded Forums, unless I use a proxy site.Nor does connecting to the game works, either. But it works for my friends, apparently.I checked the router settings, no go. Turn the firewall and Norton on and off, and still the same. I even tried accessing on my sister's computer which is also connected to the same router, and it connects. Only my computer doesn't connect to some certain sites.

None of the programs on my laptop that require an internet connection are able to connect . The only browser that works is Internet Explorer 64-bit. I have tried using my parents' and school's wireless but the problem still exists which suggests that the problem is within my laptop. I checked my firewalls, proxy settings and I tried unplugging myy router and modem. I would like to get this fixed because I am tired of dealing with IE and there are a bunch of games I've got to get to. My OS is Windows 7.

Looking it up and doing all sorts of things to attempt to resolve it but so far I've had no luck. Programs such as World of Warcraft Downloader, iTunes, Spybot S&D Updater are unable to connect to the internet, saying there is no connection or that they are unable to initialize streaming. Other programs such as Mozilla, Z/CMUD, Malaware Bytes Updater all can connect without any sort of problem. I've got Microsoft Security Suite on my computer as well as a number of other antimalware programs, running them pretty religiously

We have a machine that I want to use as a file server. Somehow a previous user managed to share the Program Files folder on c: and there doesn't appear to be any way to un-share it.Bringing up the Sharing tab, everything is greyed out and there's a message at the bottom stating "Äll the options on this tab are disabled because this folder is used by the operating system." (Which makes me wonder how it got shared in the first place...?)(including trying to turn off the share via "Manage Computer") but had no luck. Is this a Registry job?

For over a month I am trying to find a way that makes me able to use two internet connections at the same time, and assign certain programs to one connection. This is because me and my brother do game on the ADSL cause of the low latency of it, when one of us do surf the whole connection lags. I do have 2 internet connections at home, one is ADSL(1.5MB Connection) and one is WiMAX(10MB Connection). Both of these routers/modems are connected to the same network. I want to use the ADSL for gaming(light usage) and the WiMAX one for browsing and downloading(heavy usage).
I came up with three ways:
1) ForceBindIP - (1) (2) - Didn't work for me with Windows 7 64bit on Firefox 12.0
2) Using VMWare - Which I do not want to.
3) Using Astaro Security Gateway Home Edition - Which is a bit complicated and I have to run a dedicated PC for it with special setup in order to make it work (Live Demo)
ADSL:
IP Address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
WiMAX:
IP: 192.168.1.2
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
