Cisco Wireless :: 5508wlc Separate Guest And Company Wifi Access?
May 9, 2013
We have;
3 - 5508WLC
1 - 4402 WLC
Cisco Prime 1.3
25 - 3502i
We have 25 remote sites that use MPLS back to the company HQ that has one connection to the internet. Also at the HQ we have a seperate ISP connection. The remote sites and HQ have AP's which provide internal company access. We would like to have a seperate Guest WLAN at these remote sites to provide access to the ISP connection at the HQ's. Do we need to have an anchor controller? From documentation I have been reading it looks like anchor controllers are mostly used for networks that have a single connection to the internet and they use the FW to control/ secure the guest and company network from each other. Is there a differnt way of seperating the guest wireless and company wireless network securely from each other but use the same WLC's and AP's??

Currently the guest wireless users are maintained by WCS 7.0.172.0. I'm having a project to set up another 5508WLC in one location to replace the WLC in use in different location. My concern is regarding the guest user accounts. Can I use the feature of "Save Guest Accounts on Device" in WCS to save all the guest accounts on another WLC? I tried this feature and I got the message of "Successfully saved Guest users to the following respective controller(s) where they were applied". I don't know if it is because there is currently only one WLC in the WCS or the account can only be saved on the original controller where it was created.

how to setup a separate SSID for guests (without a password).
Basically, we have one SSID now called Mnet which has a WPA2 password. For guests coming in i want Mnet Guests where people can connect without needing a password. They should be able to use internet but not connect to LAN devices, how to accomplish this with this WAP321?

I been using my mechanics Wifi connection with my internal wireless adapter for at least 6 months. Living next door he has a guest Wifi connection for his customers that requires a password. I only had to use the password once and since then it has automatically connected. I recently purchased a usb wirless adapter with an antenna to get a better signal and it connects to the server but the login access page will not display nor will it connect to the internet. With this I get error 102.

I have the wireless guest access set up in my E4200 flash to the latest firmware. When I connect to the wireless guest network it comes up under the 192.168.33.xx IP address. I can connect fine but it never pops up the browser so that you can type in the guest password. I'm running Windows 7 but I've also noticed the exact same problem under XP.The only thing I can guess is the problem is that I have this acting like an access point and all DHCP requests go to my router. I've basically turned off DHCP on this and plugged the network connection into the switch on the back.

We are re-designing our wireless network and are navigating the security options. Are design will include a 5508 WLC and 3600 series APs. We plan on breaking our wireless out into four VLANS.Is 802.1x the standard for wireless authentication? What EAP flavor would you recommend for wireless? We will be supporting an environment with a variety of mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, HP tablets, Dell laptops, etc.). We will also be supporting wireless Cisco VoIP phones. Someone suggested choosing between EAP-Fast or EAP-PEAP, does this seem reasonable? Also, if we want to authenticate users using their AD account, we need to have NPS running on the AD server and use the radius protocol from client to server, is that right?

I have just moved and my ISP is the same ( Comcast) but I'm in a different region of the country. The former service (modem) was a cisco (1 port) that I connected my EA 2700 Cisco router to and it worked like a charm. My IP phones came right up as well. Now I have an modem/router combo (provided by my ISP) and when ever I attempt to connect to my VPN it will give me an error and not connect. I was told by my ISP that I could bridge the router and try that way.Do I need to set up all over again? or have the settings remained. Also I am unable to access my router with admin/password. How do I reset the password?

I am playing around with a WS-C2950-24 running IOS 12.1(22)EA13. I would like to separate guest clients from domain clients on the network (for a start) so that guest clients only get access to internet and i have created three vlans for this purpose. Vlan 10 - internet, vlan 20 - internal, vlan 40 - guest. I have also set up a trunk link on the internal network.since the 2950 does not offer routing capabilities i assume i need to to the routing between these networks on another box. I am planing to do this on a linux machine. I have set up the same vlans on the linux box.
My question is how do I configure the cisco correctly so i can reach all the networks on the linux box. The cable that runs between the cisco and the linux box is connected to vlan 20 - internal and is defined as a trunk port allowing all vlans ( switchport trunk allowed vlan all ) with vlan 20 as native.it looks like only vlan 20 is using the cable that reaches the linux machine. 2950 ----- unmanaged switch (not replaced yet) ---servers

I have registered here to clarify some things about VLAN's. There are so many (different) names and mentions that i found tat my vision gets blurry looking through all the info.I have a setup at a client where the Guest WiFi access needs to be separated from the normal LAN where all the normal devices are attached to. The guests are not allowed to reach the IP camera's and printer etc. etc. . I am trying to visualize how the traffic should flow but the Tagged, Untagged, PVID, Trunks and other names that i found make it difficult for me to see how it works together.

I have a ASA 5505 that I have been using to test run the IPSec VPN connection after studying the different configs and running through the ASDM I keep getting the same issue that I can't receive any traffic.
The company LAN is on a 10.8.0.0 255.255.0.0 network, I have placed the VPN clients in 192.168.10.0 255.255.255.0 network, the 192 clients can't talk to the 10.8 network.
On the Cisco VPN client I can see lots of sent packets but none received.
I think it could be to do with the NAT but from the examples I have seen I believe it should work.
I have attached the complete running-config, as I could well have missed something.
FWBKH(config)# show running-config
: Saved
:
ASA Version 8.2(2)

One of our customers wants to update the firmware of a 5508 wlc, but always gets the following error message: Error Message %UPDATE-3-INV_FILE_SIGN: Error! Invalid image signature!. Image may be corrupt.but the same image works fine on another 5508. The update was downloaded via a smartnet for the wlc, on which the update works fine. does the customer has to download another image for the second controller, or should the image work on both wlc?

We just got a new replacement router at our home. We had a 2wire 2701 HG-S (we got this for free when we signed up for our DSL service) and now replaced it with a Netgear N300 Work and Play model. I want to know if we can set up the 2wire router as another access point to improve our wireless signal range. Right now we have a good signal upstairs (where the Netgear router is located), but not the best signal downstairs. I am able to run an Ethernet cord from the Netgear router downstairs to the 2wire if necessary, if it will improve our WiFi signal. Both of these routers are router/modem combos that include the DSL modem, in addition to wireless access point btw. Is this even possible to do? Would it require me to install a custom firmware onto the 2wire router?

I have two SSIDs on an Autonomous Access Point, that goes to a 2960 switch, that connects to a L3 3560. I have a vlan for admin/private internal access that uses the native vlan (1) and guest vlan (50). I have configured both and I am trying to get both to go out the same Internet connection.
I cannot get the guest access to access the Internet. It looks like my computer will go, but it just comes up saying no Internet access. All interfaces are trunking this vlan properly. I can communicate from the laptop to the 3560 but I just can't get to the Internet.

We are looking to setup a guest WLAN, and I have a dedicated port connected to our backup cable modem. On our old 4400 WLC I had specific ports assigned to interfaces. We upgraded to a 5508, and for the life of me I cannot figure out where to do this. On the 5508, under interfaces, there is no option to list a port under Physical Information. Our 5508 is running 7.2.111.3 software.

I am trying to set up two routers so that I can offer free wireless connectivity via three AP's in three adjoining rooms on a first floor and secured wireless and wired network connectivity in upstairs offices. The setup is like this:
Verizon DSL connectivity..static IP
The gateway modem/router is a Verizon DLink DSL 2750B with three ports connecting to three wired Access Points in three first floor adjoining rooms, and the 4th port connecting to a Cisco E1200 (wireless and ethernet router) located next to the Verizon Dlink. I would like the Verizon DLink to give open wireless connectivity via the access points and also connect to the adjacent E1200 router.
I would like the Cisco E1200 to offer secured wireless and ethernet connectivity to the upstairs offices. (connecterd to the Cisco E1200 is a 24 port Netgear switch.)I have spent considerable time talking with Verizon and Cisco/Linksys but have not been successful in just how to set this up.A former tech actually did have this setup but for what ever reason the settings were reset to factory defaults with no written record as to the necessary settings.

I understand you can have a guest wireless setup on the newer Access Points, and trunk (cisco term) the 2 VLANs and seperate them out with Access Control Lists so they don't talk to each other, but I would rather just give the VLAN 480 it's own DHCP from the router.

Is it possible to route guest traffic back to the WLC then forward this traffic out to the internet? It's my intention optimize our business WiFi network.Actually we don't have a "Guest" access.Probably WAP321 should be the best solution for us.We will need 3 WAP321 to cover offices area.I have different questions/doubts about Captive Portal functionality.using 3 different WAP321 everyone has the "captive portal" feature, or you can configure only one of the three the feature of "captive portal"?if is possible to configure only one of three the feature of "captive portal", the others WAP321 trusting the authentication?what is the ip address released from the "Captive Portal"?all Guest user have the same username and password?

We have a 2106 that was configured by a former employee. No one left in the company is qualified to configure it. The wireless guest access used to work fine. We'd configure a guest user account. They would connect to the guest wireless, open a web browser and login. For some reason now there is no prompt for login. People can connect to it and get an IP address, but that's it. No login prompt or anything else from there.User Login Policies was set to 0 and I put it to 8. That didn't do anything. Under Web Auth > Web Login Page it's set to Internal (Default).
