How To Determine The DHCP And MAC Settings
Dec 13, 2012
J've just bought an Asus RT-N66U router and I'm setting up a broadband credit card machine to go into it (rather than transmitting data over the phone line).I need to know what the status of DHCP and MAC are on the router but I'm not sure how to find it.DHCP needs to be on and MAC needs to be off.

problem is my brother has been playing with its config page. he changed the IP Address of the modem and disabled DHCP. he forgot what IP Address he inputted on the config page. I tried resetting the router with the small button on its side. Nothing happens. all the lights blink when i pushed the reset button for 10 sec. but nothing happens. i still can't access its default IP which is 192.168.1.1 IS there anyway to determine its IP Address even if DHCP is disabled ?

I recently reset my Quidway WA1003A modem from Huawei and ever since, the radio button for the server settings under DHCP configuration is at OFF whenever I start up my computer. So if I try accessing the internet via wi-fi on my phone, I'll have to manually change the radio button by opening up 192.168.1.1 through the browser on my computer each time. I never faced this issue prior to the reset. It used to somehow always be saved as ON.

I am actually more of a 3Com guy than Cisco but I like to think I know my stuff and having just discovered this site I hope to join in as it looks a good place.I have a question about the general theroy underneath DHCP relay (IP Helper in the Cisco world I believe!)I've always put the DHCP server in VLAN1 only. A few weeks ago, I repatched the DHCP server in one of our offices (small site, single switch) into a different port by mistake. A few days ago I noticed (when doing something entirely unrelated) that I had left it in a port on both VLANs meant for PC's/phones. So, untagged on VLAN1, tagged on the voice VLAN. It had continued to work properly all that time however.By contrast, at a larger site, a new DHCP server came online and was put on a switch elsewhere in the building and was also put into a port on both VLANs - however things didn't work at all - of course we noticed immediately and changed the port setting to VLAN1 only, and it came back.In the second example, the server was on a different switch to where the main L3 switch for the Voice VLAN was (which also does the DHCP relay), and was connected over a fibre trunk link.Is there any reason why it should work on a single switch on a port on both VLANs, but not when connected over a trunk link? The server does not understand tagging. In the case where it worked, the phones were getting an IP from the correct scope; so the relay obviously must have been working with the server issuing an address based on the GIADDR field.

I've got a DIR-655 that I use as a wireless access point/switch (dhcp off) behind my Actiontec Verizon Fios router. The DIR-655 is in the basement and has my PS3 and Xbox hard wired to it.I've got playon server setup on my pc upstairs which is connected wireless to the Actiontec router. If I connect my ps3 wirelessly to the Actiontec, it immediately sees the playon server and streams movies without issue. However, when I hardwire the PS3 to the DIR-655, it will not pickup the playon server connected to the Actiontec router.I've got dhcp turned off and multicasting turned on under advanced settings of the Dlink.

I own a Nanostation5 Loco, and I have a router behind it.I would like to add a DHCP Lease to that router and do a port forward to the router.I can not find the DHCP Lease option in Nanostation settings, but if I choose to see DHCP Leases in "Extra info" on main page I can see some MAC and IP addresses there. When it comes to port forwarding, I fill the form slots with info, and when I press OK to save it a pop-up comes saying "Please fill out this field", a field for another forward rule.

I have a problem with RV042. My ISP gives me automaticly IP address and i had no problems using different types of routers, including linksys routers. With RV042 i just can't get the IP. It says, the port is up, i see the packets/traffic, front control light is blinking but it never receives the dhcp settings, doesn't matter if i use wan1, wan2, dual wan mode or single wan. I have the newest firmare 1.3.12.19tm. System statistics says "disconnected" but the packets come in and go out. Log shows absolutely nothing. I also disabled firewall but it didn't work. I can't seem to find the older 1.3.12.6 firmware.

I'm the sole IT worker at this company and I specialize in everything but big, corporate networking so here's a dumb question. How do I determine the IP address of one of our two switches? I need a list of MAC addresses of connected devices so I can relabel all the cables that were mislabeled (and this is a managed switch). For the other switch, which was put in by someone who knew what they were doing, you just type ss3900 into a browser and tada, 3com Superstack 3900 login so apparently someone did some fancy DNS stuff or whatever.
For this HP Procurve, the idiot before me who got fired for completely screwing up everything didn't leave any documentation or labeling and didn't use the same IP address as the Cisco switch that was pulled out. Obviously the switch is invisible to my PC from an IP standpoint

I have a site with a 1700 router connected to a 2960 switch. For some of the computers on site I want to determine how much traffic is local to the LAN and how much is going across the WAN.
One strategy I've come up with is to reset the interface counters on the switch ports to the machines in question and after some time compare the total bytes in and out of the interface with netflow data from the router. My only concern is that netflow is not completely accurate about the amount of data that has passed through an interface.
Is there a better or more accurate way to accomplish my goal?

Do you know an easy way to determine the physical location of the device were an IP address is attached? IP Geo location doesn't work well.Is something like this possible? I know it could be if you are the network administrator and know the location of your equipment and stuff.

I was attempting to troubleshoot a logon problem with some machines, when it was finally revealed that there was a managed switch between the host and the target preventing this.
How would I detect this in the future? (A tracert showed nothing between host and target.) Would Wireshark show me this info, with reduced TTLs?
getting a picture of all devices between a host and a target?

Should the DIR-655 list all devices that are accessing either my WAN or another device on the LAN, assuming there are no other switches on the network, and all traffic is going through the DIR-655?
I was trying to determine the IP, and MAC address of an AT&T Microcell connected to my network. I have no physical access to Microcell. I have been able to find the IP address, in the logs of the DIR-655, but nowhere else. Shouldn't it be listed under SETUP -> NETWORK SETTINGS -> NUMBER OF DYNAMIC DHCP CLIENTS?

I am new to Cisco Nexus and recently my company auditor flagged out that IPv6 is enabled on our Cisco Nexus 7000 device when we are not IPv6 ready.
The auditors have flagged this out due to the following default CoPP configuration:
ipv6 access-list copp-system-acl-bgp6
ipv6 access-list copp-system-acl-hsrp6
ipv6 access-list copp-system-acl-icmp6
ipv6 access-list copp-system-acl-icmp6-msgs
ipv6 access-list copp-system-acl-ntp6
ipv6 access-list copp-system-acl-ospf6
ipv6 access-list copp-system-acl-pim6
ipv6 access-list copp-system-acl-radius6
ipv6 access-list copp-system-acl-ssh6
ipv6 access-list copp-system-acl-tacacs6
ipv6 access-list copp-system-acl-telnet6
ipv6 access-list copp-system-acl-tftp6
Does the default CoPP enable IPv6?

The support and registration pages for the E4200 wireless router ask whether I have a V1 or V2 router. There is no place on the actual router that identifies it as V1 or V2, and the Cisco Connect application doesn't display this infomation either. What I do know is the following:
Model name: Linksys E4200
Model number: E4200
Serial number: 01C10C18104423
Firmware version: 1.0.03 build 14
Software version: 1.4.12005.2
How do I determine if this is a V1 or V2 router? The software updates are version specific.

To make this work, I need to assign vlan tags values for the vlans I create on the BigIP box and these must match the tags on the cisco switches (3550's) How do I find this information on the switch?

I am not very computer literate, so this will seem like a stupid question. How do I determine whether a computer has wireless connectivity?
I have a Dell Dimension 9200 running Windows Vista that I bought in 2007. Previously, I have connected it to the internet using an ethernet cable to my router, but this is no longer possible now that my new computer is using the ethernet connection. I want to establish a wireless connection between my older Dell Dimension 9200 and my router, but I don't know how to find out whether the computer is capable of wireless connectivity.
