View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm going to be moving into a place in the next couple months where I'll have to go wireless on my desktop (until now I've just done Ethernet so I don't even have a wifi card on my desktop). The router/modem aren't anywhere near my bedroom so my gear will be going wireless from now on All my devices are built-in wifi ready but not my desktop.
I would like recommendations as to a rock-solid, reliable, fast and well performing card as I can to make up for no hardwired connection. Especially with BF3 coming out I'm not all that thrilled with being forced into this situation but you gotta do what you gotta do. Anyhow, I'll be bringing my router (Netgear WNDR3700) so I'll have the range and speed from there about as good as I can get, so I'd like a card of equal merit.
One side note...probably not really feasible considering I want speed and performance as a priority, but I would love a card (if possible) without bullshit antennas sticking out of the case, or with external antennas you have to set up on your desk. I will go that route if I have to but man that is an aesthetic nightmare, IMO. The ones that stick out of the back of the case are the worst looking for me just as a caveat.
Have just acquired new used HP desktop running Windows Vista. System has a Broadcom NeXtreme Gigabit Ethernet card installed, which gets me to the internet OK when using a LAN cable from wireless router. But I can't make wireless connection. Vista tells me that I need a wireless network adapter.Am I missing something? Is it possible to change some settings to get the Broadcom card to go wireless? If not, what sort of adapter is needed, and is such adapter external or will it have to be installed in the system box?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been having some issues with an ACS express joining a domain. This device previously had joined and after a weekend we received a notice that users were not authenticating to the domain. This in turn let us to find out the the device was unable to join the domain. Further research led us to find that the account the device was using to join the domain had been disabled. However, after re-enabling the account we would only recieve domain timeouts when tried to join. I opened a case with cisco and we have tried everything under the sun to no avail. I can ping the AD server (name & ip) from the ACS express. Cisco apply a root patch that allowed us to create hosts file entries on the device. I checked the system time and made sure it was within 5 minutes of the Domain controller time. In the logs of the ACS express the only thing I can really find is:
-"Checking remote join status: SMB connectivity failed"
-"Timeout reached in getting AD Diag info"
"acsxp/server Warning Server 0 is DisconnectedMode, IOException for reason, ipc socket connect; No such file or directory:
Recently we re-imaged the ACS and tried to join the domain without the old config on it and just received the same error. I reloaded the backup after that which also resulted in no change. I am starting to think that there is more of a domain issue rather than networking but am having issues finding a way to prove this via the logs. The are other ACS's configured in the network and the settings on this device match the settings on the other device in the network which are working correctly.
I want install a wireless card--dual band, N, -- in my Studio XPS 9000 desktop. I have a dual band router.My questions:
1. Are the expansion slots PCI or PCI Express?
2. What card is recommended?
I've got an older desktop that needs a dual band upgrade and would like to know if a PCIe adapter w/ external antennas for desktop wireless is better/faster than the USB variety? They cost about the same. The router is a dual band WNDR3700 v1.
I've heard salespeople at retailers say, for desktop, go w/ the USB as they offer better performance than PCIe adapters even w/ external antennas... Does anyone know if the extra noise within the desktop case kills whatever benefits that the extra power and external antennas that a PCIe card has over a USB adapter?
