Moving Wireless Network Printer From One Host PC To Another?

Aug 27, 2012

I had a home network with 2 laptops (one XP and one Vista) and 1 desktop (XP) configured through a Lynksys wireless router. There was already a Canon wireless network printer (with the Vista laptop set up as the "host" pc). This Vista laptop had to be on in order to print from any of the other 2 computers on the network. I then added another laptop (this one with Windows 7 64-bit OS) to the same home network (using workgroup), and I can print wirelessly from it in the same way (the older Vista laptop has to be on). The Vista laptop is hardly ever used since adding the new Win 7, and I would like to be able to print without having the Vista laptop on. How would I go about this? Do I have to delete the printer from the Vista laptop and re-install on the Win 7? It seems like there should be a way to let the router be the "print server," but I have no idea how to accomplish this. The WLAN settings on the printer all indicate the proper router settings from the initial setup. The printer is a Canon MX860.

Printing To Network Printer While Connected Via VPN?

Oct 27, 2011

I am using Open-VPN to connect directly to our server at our office. We have a main network printer at the office that everyone uses. While hardwired, I added the printer to my laptop. When I am at the office, either wired or wirelessly, I can print to the printer. When I try to print from home, the printer never opens, it is unable to connect. Is there a way to access a network printer when logging in remotely through VPN?

Home Network :: Can't Print To Wireless Printer From Ethernet Connected PC

Mar 1, 2011

I am currently having a problem connecting a hardlined (ethernet connected) PC to a wireless printer. I want to know first of all if this is even possible. If so, how can I make this work? I know just enough about networking to be dangerous, but not enough to see what I am doing wrong. My network structure is as follows:
a 2Wire wireless modem/router provided by my ISP. a win xp laptop connected wirelessly a vista laptop connected wirelessly a win xp pc connected via the 2Wire ethernet port a Lexmark 4530 printer with wireless adapter connected wirelessly wireless config is WPA-personal (TKIP)

The laptops are able to print to the printer, but that is only because I used the CD for the printer to setup the wireless printing. When I look at the network neighborhood on both laptops, the printer does not appear. This leads me to believe that the printer is not connected to the network, the laptops have just created a printer connection (the port designation leads me to believe this as it just shows Lexmark 3500_4500 and not an actual address). The hardlined PC can connect to the internet, but is not visible to either of the PC's. When I try to type in the IP address listed on the printers config page, it doesn't see it. I can ping it, but can't connect. I think my problem is in the connection of the wireless printer. I can see it in the connection screen of the 2Wire status page, but I have a funny feeling it isn't configured properly. There appears to be no way to configure the printer outside of using their "wireless connection utility wizard" on the CD.

There is one other twist to this, I have a Dlink DGL4300 wireless gaming router that I use for my XBOX and to give me additional hardline ports for other things. I don't have it connected right now (my box is out of commission waiting on parts), but I did have it connected behind the 2Wire before without any problems. I would like for it to remain this way once I have the printing problem resolved. I am using DHCP right now with auto assigned IPs, but I can reconfigure the network to whatever will allow me to get this to work properly.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP121 Connected To Network Printer (fails)

Feb 24, 2013

Bought multiple WAP121s which are physically connected via CAT5 to the Ethernet NIC of a printer. Printer is in a warehouse with no Ethernet cabling -- but there is a wifi signal provided by  a Cisco wireless router -- which is why we got the WAPs -- so PCs could get their jobs sent to the printer via Wifi > WAP > printer NIC.

Problem is the printers only stay visible on for about 15 min or so -- then disappear. Only way to get them visible again is to do a powercycle on the printer (not the WAP121).  Then it stays visible for for another 15 minutes or so -- then disappears.  If a Workstation sends a continues (-t) ping to the printer IP -- the printer will stay online and get print jobs.... but if activity is idle for 10-15 minutes... it disappears (power-save is off on the printer).

Firmware on WAP121 is current.

What setting on the WAP could be enable to keep the printers alive?  have been trying to operate in bridge mode...  What is the "best practice" here for connecting a printer to a WIFI via these WAP121s?

Home Network :: Updating Mac Cache When Moving To Another Location?

Apr 4, 2011

I ve read, that Cisco routers/switches drop the entries of their ARP cache after 4 hours and of the MAC cache after 5 minutes (in the defaults).Question: What is the regular way, to update the MAC cache when moving to another location in the network?(Background: My device is a hand-held device, and we have problems to get access to it from a terminal server in another network, when connecting the hand-held device at different locations.) One approach is to send in a fix interval a arp-ping to the gateway, or trigger the ping by the interface-up.How do other devices handles this problem? (Or do they ignore it, because the most will stay on its location/port their whole live?

Canon MF8300 Printer - Unable To Locate Printer On Network

Mar 21, 2011

I have 2 desktops (running windows 7), a Canon MF8300 printer, and an outgoing ethernet line, all on a Netgear Advanced Cable Modem Gateway CGD24-CPR. I'm only concerned with having the 2 desktops set up with the Canon printer. Both computers have been connected to the printer before and I have the startup disk. But once the new offices were set up and both of the desktops were moved, I can no longer access or find the printer.

I can IPconfig the Desktops for their IPV4 addresses and both desktops recognize eachother on a Homegroup, but I can't find the printer. I printed off the print configuration page from the printer which gave me an IP address (printer is set for auto-obtain), but using an IP search won't bring up the printer. All of the devices are plugged into ethernet ports set up for the three different office they are in and the actual location of the Netgear cable modem/router is over 100 feet away. My primary concern is getting the printer for the desktops, but I also need to add a wireless router into one of those office in the future.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Xerox 5745 Printer Reboots At 75% When Connected To 2960

Nov 15, 2012

We are having a problem with our Xerox 5745 multifunction Printer. This problem had been forwarded to Xerox, but they claim that a problem was caused by a power surge on our Cisco router.

We are having a total of 8 CiscoCatalyst 2960 Series in our IT Communication rooms.
We are also having 2 Xerox 7120, 4 Xerox 5745, 6 HP5200 and 300 computers - PC (HP Desktop) and Laptop (Samsung). Network : all connected to CISCO Catalyst 2960 Series Printer Setup: IP Address: Manual IP Assignment (DHCP Disabled) PC Setup: TCP/IP –RAW on Port 9100 – SNMP Status ENABLED The two machines has same firmware software and configuration settings. one machine just been installed with latest firmware

Problem: On 3 Xerox 5745 display panel shows: "Network Controller booting"
at 75% the system restart and go on again and again.

This happens when cables are connected to CISCO Catalyst 2660.

Testing done: •1. No problem, Connecting directly to laptop using (crossover cable), accesss to printing is normal.•2. No Problem, Using other switch - dLink (not CISCO Catalyst 2960), the printing is normal.•3. Not work, changing ip address; disabling all protocol; changing speed to 10MBps.•4. Not work, Switching to other port on CISCO Catalyst 2960.•5. Not work, Re-starting the Cisco Catalyst 2960 s.•6. Not work, Changing cables.

Access Internet Using Wireless Network And Printer Using Separate Wired Network At Time?

Can't Connect Using WNA After Moving PC

Jan 4, 2012

I have recently moved, taking my PC (Windows Vista) from the UK to Norway. My Norwegian partner has a Wi-fi network set up in our new home via his cable TV service (Lyse) and I purchased a Netgear wireless network adaptor so I could get into this. It says I am connected to his network and I entered the correct network security key but I only get 'limited connectivity' which seems to not include internet access. 2 iPhones & 2 other laptops regularly network in so there is nothing wrong with the network per se. The trouble seems to be that mine is a desktop PC.

I had a LAN from home in my 'connections' so I deleted that (and deleted my UK broadband connection) and in the LAN settings box, I unchecked 'automatically detect' & and checked the proxy server box.

Cisco Firewall :: Moving From ASA 8.4(1) To 9.0(2)?

Mar 21, 2013

I need to move from ASA 8.4(1) to 9.0(2). Reading [URL] it seems to be a quite safe upgrade cause I do not have IPv6 ACL and I have only IKE v1. The following is not very understandable to me,No  Payload Encryption for export—You can purchase some models with No  Payload Encryption. For export to some countries, payload encryption  cannot be enabled on the Cisco ASA 5500 series. The ASA software senses a  No Payload Encryption model, and disables the following features:

#
–Unified Communications
  #
–VPN
  #

You can still install the Strong Encryption (3DES/AES) license for use  with management connections and encrypted route messages for OSPFv3. For  example, you can use ASDM HTTPS/SSL, SSHv2, Telnet and SNMPv3. You can  also download the dynamic database for the Botnet Traffic Filer (which  uses SSL) and redirect traffic to Cloud Web Security.  Reading [URL] under 'Limitations and Restrictions' I find this point moving to 8.4(2), which I also dont understand,Currently in 8.4(2) and later, the PAT pool feature is not available as a fallback method for dynamic NAT or PAT. You can only configure the PAT pool as the primary method for dynamic PAT. For example, if you enter the following twice NAT command that configures a PAT pool (object2) for fallback when the addresses in object1 are used up, you see the following error message:

hostname(config)# nat (inside,outside) source dynamic any object1 pat-pool object2
interface round-robin
ERROR: Same mapped parameter cannot be used to do both NAT and PAT.
 ERROR: NAT pool allocation failed.

You can alter this command to make it PAT-pool only by removing object1; the PAT pool is used as the primary method, instead of as a fallback method:

hostname(config)# nat (inside,outside) source dynamic any pat-pool object2 interface
round-robin
(CSCtq20634)

Is there any other point I need to consider moving from ASA 8.4(1) to 9.0(2)?

Moving From Comcast Gateway To Business

Jul 31, 2012

I have a 'Comcast Business Gateway' a friend gave me and I would like to use it instead of the regular gateway. The business gateway has extra Ethernet ports on the back where as the regular gateway just has one for your router. I plugged in the business gateway and I couldn't access the network. I used 10.1.10.1 which I thought was comcast's default but to no avail. I am not a tech so I am now stuck. The whole reason I am trying to do this is because the wireless routor is in the house, with a ethernet wire running to the shop. This distance is about 60 feet. I have the computer pluged into the wire but I can't get the printer or the other computer to connect to the wireless. I would like to connect the Business Gateway to the house wireless and then run the hard wire to the shop and connect another wireless router to the wire and run the shop on its own wireless. I tried one of the wireless extenders and it does not have enough juice.

Moving Linksys WRT54G Over To Windows 7?

Mar 12, 2011

Here's what I have so far which involves 3 computers:

PC1 has : Window XP w/ Linksys WRT54G w/ Linksys software installed
PC2 has : Windows 7 connected to router via cable
PC3 has : Windows XP connected to router via wireless

My goal is to make my new Windows 7 (PC2) the primary computer just like a server which handles the router and other stuff like printers, scanners, etc. I want to swap the Linksys WRT54G on PC1 to be on the new PC2 (Windows 7) so that the router can be configured and monitored on that machine.

My guess is that I just simply install the Linksys WRT54G's software to PC2 and make the necessary settings just like the XP machine (PC1) and I'm done. Do I need to UNinstall the router's software on the PC1 (XP) machine first? Do I disconnect my internet connection on my PC1 machine?....or do it really matter?
