Registering A FQDN And DNS For Home Use To Connect To Server?
Mar 26, 2011
I have a video hosting server on vmware and I need to be able to connect to it through it's domain name. It needs a FQDN. On it's network config it has spaces to enter in FQDN, IP, Subnet, and two DNS. It must use FQDN to connect through http.I was told I can just open up the system32/driver/etc/host file and edit in the info, ex: 1.1.1.2 [URL] I tried to ping 1.1.1.2 and it does ping, and I even tried to ping [URL] and it pings (not connected to the web). But I can't get the web interface to connect when i put in server.com:8080 (needs 8080) into my web browser. FYI, I have no idea about the DNS space on the server, I just put in some random number. Why does this server need a DNS anyways? This computer is not connected to the web or any other computer. It's just this computer and the vmware server on it.
My users on 571 need to access a web server on the 469 interface. However, the requirements are that the 571 users can only access the Website using the public FQDN which there is a static NAT from outside to 469. [code] Here is also the Packet-Tracer and it shows what I expect that the traffic is source from 571 and exits 469. However, the users are not able to access the website.[code]
I may have phrased the topic not too clearly, but I have an external domain name of mail.company.com , I want my users INSIDE the company be able to also get to url..., currently they cannot (nothing loads, looks to me as if firewall simply drops it) and I'm drawing a blank on how to get this done. Externally this works fine so if you're outside the company you can load up OWA just fine since my NAT rule translates the external IP to internal IP, but something is blocking this from the inside.
I have an ASA 5510. If you can just sent me on the right path with theory I'll figure it out on my own, I don't need exact steps, but I must be thinking of this wrong as I'm not getting anywhere.
I installed some Nexus 5k to replace there 3750 and added dynamic routing. Well after working out most of the issues with most of the stuff, there is one issue that still remains. From what i understand (I have not made it abck to the site yet) when there users connect to VPN with IPSEC (they only use the thick client) they register there local ip address to DNS and thier VPN assigned IP address. At this time I dont have access to the configurations.
I have an issue on the Cat 3750 on the voice vlan; IP Phone not registering with PBX & Signaling Server. The ip phone hits dhcp and gets an ip address from a data scope. Data scope does have dhcp options for voice, same as voice scope so it should work but it doesnt. We removed the switchport access vlan 50 command, and left the switchport access voice vlan 51, and now the phone registers.Anything I can check on the switch to make sure voice vlan is working? Any debug voice vlan commands? The switch doesnt seem to distinguish voice and data traffic.I check dhcp and both scopes vlan 50 and vlan 51 have the same configuration. Defautl GW is different of course Catalyst 3750 is running 12.2(25)SEE2 [code]
How do you access an application that is in the server? Like what extra steps you gotta make? Are they software related or do I have to do some configuration on the router or switch? Heres a little example:
Assume you have a group of computer connecter to a switch, this switch is connected to a router which has the connection to your ISP. On the router, you also have connected a server farm for your network and all the apps are stored there, say MS Word, Excel and such. Now, you have your network running, every ping comes out successful, so you know you did that part right, so the next part is to get the host use the MS Word or any other app in that server. How do you do that? Is there something that need to be configured on router/switch or is it with a software on your host? If its a software, whats the name of it and how you make it work?
I have setup a webserver on my home PC and I have forwarded port 80 on my router to the IP adress of the PC that is running the web server. The web server is working great; I can get to my web pages from outside of my home by going to http://MyIpAddress/Anyway, the problem is with the Windows Media Player plugin I'm using. I want to embed 6GB MPEG-2 videos into my web pages. I have some videos on my PC and I want to be able to watch them remotely by connecting into my web page. It works fine when I'm at home; other PCs can connect and play the videos no problem. The problem is when I'm at work. When I'm at work, I go to my web page (via my IP address in a web browser) and the Media Player plugin says "Connecting" for a minute, then it says Ready, but the video will not play. I tried using a smaller, AVI file (680 MB) instead to see if the problem was streaming such a large file, but the video still would not play.Do I need to foward more ports on my router so that Windows Media Player can connect back and get the information it needs?
trying to remove a MAC address or FQDN from my router. Lexmark printer was installed and died. Lexmark replaced, but old MAC is still embedded in router and my laptop only sees the old, no matter how many times I reinstall.
I have a Wireless-G broadband router WRT54GS and have figured out how to enable logging. This gives me the IP addresses, but I would like to be able to easily see the FQDN so I can see what my kids are looking at on the web.Is there a way to get that information via the built in logging feature? If not is there a way to take the log file and run this through sometype of program that will generate the FQDN's?
I am trying to setup time service on two devices. Once is a UC520, the second an 1840 router. I would like to use the FQDN of the time server which is north-america.pool.ntp.org. This is the recommended procedure as per ntp.org due to changes of IP addresses of time servers.
On the UC520 this is not a problem. I type in "ntp server north-america.pool.ntp.org" and this is how the command stays in the config. On the 1800 the FQDN is resolved and inserted into the config as an IP address. This works for now but kinda defeats the purpose of using a FQDN.
I recently upgraded my modem and before then my internet connection was working. I was able to connect to websites and all. But once i upgraded it wouldn't allow me to connect. my other computers are able to but not my main one. My ISP told me to bring it in to the shop cause they said something was blocking my connection. I ran some basic things i saw on the internet. i am able to get to web pages through ip address but not through the [URL] type ones.
I have an ACE4710 with a few basic farms running and it works great however I now need to implement an SSL proxy service for the first time. The requirement is that clients who are already using FQDN's need to be sent to diffent real server IP addresses as each client will have their own VM. All the clients will use the same global IP address with different A records.
We have dns server(only Internal IP) inside our network, right now we have configured Remote Access VPN using Public IP and we connect it using the same Public IP. I need to use FQDN instead using Public IP.

My Wifi network has a wpa2 password that is a random string of characters and numbers and yet last month a rogue IP Address kept popping up on my DNS list. It has to be coming from my neighbor who's bedroom is about 15 feet away from my router. So unless someone is sitting out on my front lawn to do this then it must be him.I've been looking for software that will notify me when a connection my router is attempted and kudos if it also asks my permission first would be great. There are wifi packet sniffers out there like Cain&Abel, Airsnort, that sort of thing but I am not quite savvy enough nor do I want to turn this into a complicated hobby but just need a basic warningin case something gets past my passwords again
I'm trying to add an access-list rule to allow internal servers to connect an outside host on a asa 5540. The hostname translates to multiple ip's. Normally I just lookup the ip address or one of the ip's the hostname translates too and use that in the access-list as the host. For some reason the actual ip's, which are a few, are not always available so using a specific ip sometimes does not work, thus the reason I have to use the hostname instead of the ip. I have 2 hostnames. www.hostname.com and subdomain.hostname.com.
This is how I normally add these rules (the ip addresses are fictive): access-list internet_access extended permit tcp host 192.168.50.5 host 84.115.57.121 eq www log
When I try to add this using the hostname on our asa I get an error: access-list internet_access extended permit tcp host 192.168.50.5 host www.hostname.com ?ERROR: % Unrecognized command
I've tried it without the 'www', so hostname.com but same error.
I am trying to connect my RV110W from my home office to our office IPSec router. I have a dynamic IP address and am using DDNS, therefore the RV110W local endpoint needs to be configured with my FQDN, not the IP address as this will change.
On page 100 the manual states
Step 4 -
• Local WAN (Internet) IP Address—Enter the public IP address or domain name of the local endpoint (Cisco RV110W).
This option is not available in my router - I am running firmware 1.2.0.9
All the other switches / routers on quering for SNMP sysName.0 returns their FQDN in our network. The Nexus 7010 and 5020 switches in the network return only their name. "hostname xx" and "ip domain-name xx" defined on all the devices. The SNMP MIB is matching. There are no other SNMP related issues. How can I get the FQDN for these devices ?
$ snmpget -v 2c -c public m-65k-00.core sysName.0 SNMPv2-MIB::sysName.0 = STRING: m-65k-00.core.abcd.com $ snmpget -v 2c -c public m-N7K-00.core sysName.0
Anyone gotten 7985g's to register with CME 4.0(3)? I have seen confilicting information, some say CME wont support 7985g's but some have posted configs and say its working....anyone have personal experience? Also with the "video" option configured in telephony service, will video automatically transfer when a session is started?
I tried to get this working last night, only had 30 minutes, they didnt register, but may be a seperate issue I overlooked. I have a 3845 with c3845-adventerprisek9-mz.151-4.M.bin. I just tried to throw together a quick ephone with the mac and type 7985g but no-go.
I have a CME on the other end of my MPLS network. When troubleshooting phone issues i setup a phone on the CME system in question and point its TFTP server to the address of the CME router. Now, i need to point this phone to another CME but it keeps registering with the previous one no matter what i do (the TFTP server is pointed to the new CME). I have tried turning off the auto register, and i have deleted the ephone and its mac address all together but it always registers with the wrong CME.
register Panasonic Cordless phone - model - KX-TGP500.While configuring in CME - ephone - type (the list available is for only cisco models).how can i register this new model which the CME.
I am moving an IP Phone from one subnet to another subnet.I have deleted the IP Phone configuration in call manager(System version: 7.0.1.11000-2); however, when adding the same device (same MAC address) again in the call manager, the call manager associates the phone with the old IPv4 address (even though the phone is turned off). The phone is booting up and getting a different IP address on the new subnet, and is always in the "Registering" state. The phone has the right CM IP, TFTP IP, etc. the only difference is the phone IP address and the IP address that the CM is showing in the phone device configuration. I also tried resetting/rebooting and restore phone to default factory setting but it doesn't work, i have few more devices on this new subnet that are working fine.
I have a Cisco Wireless LAN Controller AIR-CT5508-K9 running Software Version 7.0.98.218. This WLC has registered ten AP model 1240.Now I have configured fiive CAP3502 with static capwapp commands, when I connect the CAP-3502 in the network, in the WLC I see the status "downloading" then the CAP restart, and the console show the message *Mar 1 00:15:39.033: %CAPWAP-3-ERRORLOG: Could Not resolve CISCO-CAPWAP-CONTROLLER, and never the CAP3502 is registered in the WLC. [code]
Currently have a WLC4402 installed with 21 AP's reporting to it. The controller is running at LWAPP3 with version 3.2.116.21. The WLC was purchased prior to Cisco buying Air-e-space, and has a 36 AP license. When attempting to install additional 1242AG-A-K9 ap's, the controller will not acknowledge them. I have verified the LAN confiuration as correct, and working properly.
A couple of our remote users are saying that during the day, suddenly their 7965 that hangs off their 881 will start registering for 3 to 5 seconds, then it will be fine.
I have 2106WLC and 1522AP. when i connect AP wih controller it gets the IP from DHCP pool define in controller and then start downloading the image then comes in registerd statebut problem is that when i click on the Ap to configure then suddenly its disappear and message comes the device is not available currently. at that time i check the CLI of AP and AP again becomes in Discovery state. and start process forever again of discovery.
I know what the problemis i need to tell the AP what the mac of the switchport is but i can not figure it out because it is a CATos Switch?on a IOS I would just use the Show interface command and use the bia but i dont know how to figure out the bia on a CATos?
I have a problem with my Cisco 7961 phones not registering on my CUCM 8.6 install on ESXi 5. Weird because I have Cisco IP communicator phones that register with no problem. You guys know what I can be missing. I have restarted the CUCM and services multiple times. The phone log on my phones say it can't find dhcp and DNS unknown host but my CUCM is configured by IP address. I also attached some screenshots
We have a 2504 on version 7.2.103.0 and 15 of the 1131 AG's.In short we cannot get the access points to register against the WLC, they seem to be caught up in a boot loop. They are seen on the WLC with a status of downloading, then once they have downloaded (Seen via CLI) I get an error message things I can confirm are The Country code is set to GB All ports are in Native VLAN Access points are ETSI type. It stops and restarts at syslog output DTLS-3-BAD-RECORD: Erroneous record recieved from x.x.x.x: Duplicate (replayed) record.
I can not get our 3602i AP's to register with our 5508 controller which is running 7.2.103.0 code. We keep seeing an error in the log on the WLC "AAA Authentication Failure for UserName:c46413c08e92 User Type: WLAN USER" and on the Access Point we are seeing [code]
I entered the CAPWAP ap controller ip address directly into the AP so it shouldn't be an option 43 DHCP issue
how an AP 3500 get to be registered in a controller 5508??, so, i have seen a lot of information of wireles deployment guide but i haven't understood yet how the process or flow is for getting the AP to be registered in a controller 5508, what exactly basic configuration must be done in a controller for doing it?
