Use Old Linksys WRT54g Ver 2 As A Bridge?
Aug 1, 2011
I have a bluray player that I want to get internet to that is downstairs. I would like to use my old Linksys WRT54g ver 2 router to do this. I just put DD-WRT firmware on it. I have a Linksys E1000 as my primary router. All I want to do is be able to to put the Secondary router (WRT54G) downstairs near the bluray player and run an ethernet cable from the lan port on the router to the ethernet port on the bluray player to get internet access. What is the best way to do this? Client bridge or Client mode?

According to the information on the bottom of the WAP54G setup screen it can connect to the WRT54G without another WAP54G. What I want to do is use the WAP54G as a bridge to connect my DVD player with an Ethernet connection to the internet via the WRT54G. Both units have the latest firmware updates. When I set it up as I believe it should be the WAP54G has all the lights on but the DVD player cannot connect to the internet.

These questions are only in relation to the above Wireless Router (v6, FW-v1.02 [2010]) :
1. What is an Ethernet Bridge (the basic authoritative definition), and besides gaming, what are they generally used for in a business setting?
2. What are VPN settings in a Router used for, and can a VPN be configured on a remote PC without them?
3. Utilizing bridging, etc., can I utilize my WRT54G as a makeshift Range Expander as long as the primary router doesnt have WEP key requirements? The current WIFI doesnt reach my PC, so I thought I could configure my router midway in hopes of extending the other routers' signal, via some kind of bridging if necessary. Naturally, there would only be a wireless connection between routers.
4. How can I setup a simple Captive Portal on this router?

I have an SMCD3GN (from Rogers) that is both a Modem and a Router. I also have a Linksys WRT54G router that I used to use before. The SMC is giving me a lot of problems. The connection is really bad often and my internet speed drops for no reason all of a sudden. I'm getting fed up and want my old router back.
I know it's possible to change the SMC into a modem (put it in bridge mode) and then connect my router and use the Linksys router instead of the SMC. The problem is, I don't know exactly how to set it up and would really like an explanation. I already know how to get into the SMC and Linksys settings as an admin.

I need to configure a WAG 120 N as a bridge, so I can have my public IP as an output of an Ethernet port. I need this configuration because I have a non ADSL router managing VPNs and needs the public IP on the WAN port of this router.

I tried to set my WAG200G as a wireless bridge, but I encountered some problems doing so.
First I reseted the router to factory default settings, then I put it in "bridge mode only" disabled DHCP and UPnP (this was required for the college network I want to use on it to work). Then I put the UTP cable in one of the LAN ports.
When I try to acces this network though a wire everything works fine, I can see the other devices connected to the network and I can acces the internet. When I try to use the network wirelessly, I still see the other devices on the network but I can't connect to the internet. (The acces to the internet is gained by logging in inside the browser, like with wifi hotspots)

In my apartment, I can receive the wireless signal of free scholl wireless, which is accessable without user name and password. Although the signal is not good, but we used to use a router EA3000 to relay the signal. Now my roommate is leaving with this this router. So I bought EA4500 and try to do the similar job. However, I find that the configurations on 192.168.1.1 are different between EA3000 and EA4500. Many options cannot be found in the EA4500 page, such as the wireless client.

I have a small home network using a Linksys WAG320N which acts as the modem (to connect to BT using PPPoA for ADSL) and provides 4 wired 100Mbs network connections along with a wireless N connections. I use WPA2 (personal) to secure the network and have a white list for allowed wireless devices. Everything works fine.In another part of the house (where I can get a good wireless signal) we have the main TV in the house. Here I have a SKY HD box and a small media player. What I would like to do is connect these two devices to the network and running a network cable is not practical, so I thought I would setup a wireless bridge.I tried a TP-Link bridge borrowed from a friend by this failed to work. I now know this to be because the WAG320N does not support WDS.Will a Linksys WES610N connect to my WAG320N to provide me with what I want?

I currently have service with AT&T DSL. I have their Motorola Netopia 3347 modem that is set to Bridged mode and going to a Linksys WRT54GL router, which then goes out to a Cisco 24 port switch.AT&T has given us a Static IP to use, which was set up and working just fine when the modem was NOT in Bridged mode. Now that I have it set to bridge mode (as per a request by our VoIP provider), our IP address is no longer static at WhatismyIP.com...instead it changes frequently. However, I have a back up server here that needs to have a static IP so offsite back ups can find our modem/router and then the back up server.I am running Tomato software on the Linksys admin. When I go to the Basic->Network section, the WAN/Internet is set to PPPoE with the AT&T username and password that was originally used in the Netopia modem entered in. If I set this option to Static, it removes the username/password fields, so I do not think that my internet would work that way. Or, would the Netopia use the username/password to authenticate, and then just pass it through to the Linksys in bridge mode and THEN it would use the static IP? what I need to do to make the Linksys grab our Static IP instead of changing? Neither AT&T or the VoIP company can figure it out...

I am trying to bridge a Verizon MiFi4510L to my Sonicwall network router via a Linksys WET610N wireless Internet Bridge. I have successfully gotten the the MiFi4510L to connect to the WET610N and can use the Ethernet connection connected directly to my laptop. I am assigned a DHCP of 192.168.1.6 from the DHCP of the MiFi.I then connected the WET610N connection to the WAN input on the Sonicwall device and connected my laptop to the Sonicwall controlled network. I configured the WAN connection as NAT with DHCP and it connected to the 192.168.1.6 address. However, I can not get to the internet, nor even ping 192.168.1.6 or 192.168.1.1. Something is being blocked (I assume by the Verizon MiFi4510)

I have a E4200 with 1.0.04 firmware that I've used for a while as a router in front of a cable modem. I have upgraded the modem to a Virgin Media SuperHub. I have connected my E4200's WAN port to one of the SuperHub's LAN ports and changed the E4200's mode to Bridged Mode.I can connect to the Internet wirelessly and wired on the SuperHub, but I can only connect to the Internet via the E4200 if I'm wired to it. The wireless will connect to the E4200, it gets allocated and IP address in the correct range and the gateway is shown as the SuperHub's IP address, and I can see the E4200's management website via wireless, but I cannot connect to anything beyond the E4200.

I want to setup the following:
Internet through DSL-Thompson TG 789 VN router ---> several yards --> Linksys WRT320N --> wired computer netwerk | |with printer
| |
---> Wireless Netwerk --> laptops / phones <--- (WAN depending on strongest signal)
|
---> several servers
The Thompson does the DHCP and routing. It is the gateway through the internet, IP 192.168.2.254 (mask 255.255.255.0).I can't replace the thompson since it is delivered by my provider. SSID = BertB I want to achieve that all the compuers / laptops / phone and printer are in one network and can communicate with each other So the only possibility, as far as I can see, is to set up the Linksys as a bridge.
I have to do the following at the Linksys but have some questions as mentioned below:
SSID = BertB (the same)
channel = different from the channel used by Thompson
DHCP = off
IP = fixed (192.168.2.253)
gateway = 192.168.2.254
[code]....
how the thompson and the Linksys will build a connection with each other, or will this happen automatically through the above setup?Do I have to put the mac address of the thompson in the Linksys and/or vice versa?

I bought the EA3500 nine months ago mainly for the USB port (for a NAS). I recently replaced Comcast Cable with Verizon FIOS. So I now have the FIOS router as my main router (its' IP address is 192.168.1.1). I put the EA3500 in bridge mode to extend the (wired) network. I could get: After going in to bridge mode (with DHCP), I can not log in to the EA3500 (IP address 192.168.1.5 assigned by the FIOS router). I connect my computer directly to one of the EA3500 numbered ports (after various combinations of rebooting EA3500 and rebooting PC). It just continues to say "waiting" and never logs in. Tried choosing a static route (tried both 192.168.1.43 and 192.168.1.5 with 255.255.255.0, gateway and DNS1 = 192.168.1.1) with no luck.Since I can't log in, I cannot set up my NAS on the USB port of the EA3500 (so I haven't gotten far enough to determine if the USB port will even work in bridge mode).Thought about ensuring the latest firmware but since I can't log in I can't do that. (And after a hard reset EA3500 IP address is 192.168.1.1 which creates conflict with FIOS)

After getting informed that I cannot use the AP I bought yesterday as a bridge, I decided to get another linksys E2000, as the guy in the shop informed me that I can run it in bridge mode for sure.Now, as I am doing this for the first time, and my english is not the best, I was not able to find some instructions, or even better a step-by-step manual that can assist me. I searched the forum, but I did not find anything about the E2000 in bridge mode.

As I understand, the latest FW for the E4200 makes it possible to put he router into bridge mode. In this mode, I can use it as an access point. In bridge mode, should I then connect my router to the WAN port at the E4200?The other way to make the E4200 into an AP, is to disable DHCP and NAT and give the E4200 an IP address out of range for the DHCP range in my preferred router.
Choosing between this two option to make the E4200 into an AP, which is considered to be the best solution?And to be sure; using this option, then the Ethernet cable should be connected to the LAN port of the E4200? is the performance of an E4200 in AP mode the same as a dedicated AP like the WAP610N?

I have an ADSL Modem WAG200G Annex A, with latest firmware. I recently purchased a Linksys E2000 to upgrade my wireless to N, plus to get 4 gigabit Ethernet Ports for my NAS.
The problem is, I set WAG200G to "Bridge mode only", and from within E2000, I provided PPPoE credentials (user name and password), it does not work, no Internet connection!
Normally, with the WAG200G, PPPoE credential is set as followings (and it works)
Type: PPPoE Multiplexing: LLC Virtual Circuit: "0" for VPI (0~255) and "33" for VCI (0~65535) "Keep Alive" option
on E2000 Router, PPPoE does not have the above option for me to select. Only User Name and Password field
