3x3 Wi-Fi Antenna For 802.11n 5GHz Band?
Apr 30, 2012
find a 3x3 (450mbps) WiFi antenna for the 802.11n 5GHz band? I'm pretty much looking for something similar to this, which works at 2.4GHz:
[URL]
I've done a considerable amount of searching and have not been able to come up with anything. Individual 5GHz dipole antennas can be bought online, but these would be a sub-optimal solution for me, as I would like the antenna to have a solid base so it can sit on the desk/bookshelf.Edit: Found a Proxim antenna that claims to be dual-band, but it's pricey. Also claims to use reverse SMA connectors, so should work with desktop WiFi cards or mini PCIe cards with pigtails.[URL]

I have the new XBOX 360 black N wireless adapter and the Linksys E3000 dual band router as I want to upgrade the network range and speed to N. I set up a unique SSID and passphrase (WPA2) for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. My XBOX could connect to the 2.4GHz band network and could connect to XBOX Live. But when I configured all the settings and tried to connect to the 5GHz band network, but no luck. My XBOX just said it failed to connect. I was sure that I did type in the SSID and passphrase correctly. I still cannot figure out what went wrong. I even suspected either the wireless adapter or the router malfunctioned.

What is the 5GHz antenna orientation in the DAP-1522? If I want to get the best signal for streaming to a DSM-750 how should I orient the the DAP-1522? Horizontal? Vertical? and which edge towards the media player?
It's working but the access point only reports about 50% signal strength over 20 feet (and only 1 wall) so I would have expected better. I've tried turning the box a couple of different ways but didn't see any big difference in the reported signal strength.

Currently have access points located throughout our warehouse that use the AIR ANT5160V-R antenna's from Cisco. These AP's are 25' in the air. However we have a lot of voice quality issues off of the 5Ghz band, we do no other services on this band as we keep data on the 2.4Ghz.This was all installed by a vendor but from what I am seeing on the documentation [URL] the cover is extremely poor for these antennas despite AP's everywhere. They cover side to side but aren't a well rounded AP at all.it seems like the AIR-ANT5145V-R would be better suited even though this is a warehouse.

I've had the DIR-825 router for more than a year now and I've never once been able to see the second SSID that broadcasts at 5Ghz. I've set up both bands with identical settings and I have a wireless N network adapter in my laptop, but it only ever sees the 2 Ghz SSID, never the 5 Ghz one. Shouldn't I be able to see it?

Have hooked up a DIR-825 to an iMac and it works well on 2.4GHz band. Having issues seeing 5GHz band as it comes and goes. Just today bought a DWA-160 USB adapter hoping it would connect the kid's PS3 to the 5GHz band but the PS3 wont accept or recognize either the DWA-160 or the 5GHz band.
Can't find any solutions in the manuals.Desperate for a fix as the wife and I want to be able to work on the 2.4GHz without being constantly kicked off by the kids on the PS3.

Until recently I used the 2.4GHZ band for my pc and my son used 5GHZ for his laptop on our D-link router.A couple of weeks ago our provider installed a new Cisco modem/router-in-one (the old modem didn't work any more). We use the D-link as a second router. The 2.5Ghz band is no problem but my son doesn't get internet access with 5Ghz

Wednesday, November 23, 2011I have an Airport Extreme dual-band 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. Each network is has a different name and different password so I know exactly which one I am connected to.On a MacBook Pro, it sees both networks. On a Dell E5520 it will see both networks. On an iPhone 4 it will see both networks. I can connect any of these devices to either network.Just got the Linksys E3000 dual-band 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. On an iPhone 4 it will only see the 2.4Ghz network. The Airport Extreme is powered off when using the E3000 so I know there is no interference from this router.E3000 Firmware Version 1.0.04. It's the latest.5Ghz Wireless Settings

Network Mode: Mixed
Channel Width: Auto (20Mhz or 40Mhz)

I have rebooted the computer, cycled the router and modem 3-4 times.Nothing works. My question is since both laptops and phone can see the 5Ghz network when running the Airport Extreme, why doesn't the 5Ghz network show up on the Dell and iPhone when running the E3000.

Why I cannot go to the 5Ghz band to utilize the superior speeds to transfer files over wireless connection between my computers? I am sure that I am still on the default 2.4 Ghz because
1) The file transfer speeds are pathetic
2) In Wireless Security, if I set the Wireless Mode to disabled for the 2.4Ghz band, Windows shows me "Unsecured Network" even with 2.4Ghz disabled.

The product literature for the AE1000 says that you can select which band to use. However there doesn't seem to be an option to do that. I have an E4200 and when I set it up, it assigned my 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands the same SSID. If I configure the AE1000 to connect to that SSID, it seems to connect to the 2.4GHz band. Do I have to change the SSID for 5GHz and initiate a connection to it manually?

I'm using a Linksys E3200 router with a Motorola modem and an elite xbox 360 with a wireless N networking adapter. (Black with two antennas.) I just recently bought this router because I wanted some faster gaming. I wanted to put my xbox on the 5ghz so it would have it all to itself, and have the two laptops share the 2.4ghz. But it won't let me onto the 5ghz band... I can see it on my xbox but it won't connect to it at all. I can get onto the 2.4 band but its at 802.11G, so its not even giving me N there, when it should be. I'm not sure if this is an issue with my adapter or router...I tried finding stuff about it, and it looked like people were blaming it on linksys, but that was almost a year ago. And there was never an update on what happened.I can see the 5Ghz band on my xbox (but only if the channel width is on 20Mhz only), but I can't find it on my computer. Which I find weird. I've been trying a lot of things and I just can't get my laptop to find it. So nothing is using the 5 band, and all my devices are crowded onto the 2.4...Is there some step in setting up the 5Ghz band that I'm missing maybe?

I have an E4200 V2. The 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands are both enabled and named differently. From what I've read they should both show up in the list of networks when I'm connecting other computers etc? All I'm getting is the 2.4ghz.Everything on the router is working fine as far as I can tell, just can't seem to access the 5ghz band. Maybe I recently upgraded to the Smart WiFi firmware but it's the same situation. The two bands have the same password with two of the first three letters switched on one.

I've had the wireless G adapter for a year now, and connections work with both 2.4GHz and 5GHz G connections. I just bought a wireless N adapter (2.4GHz and 5GHz capable), and cannot get an N connection.. On 2.4GHz it connects to G only. And on 5GHz, I don't even see the whole band to connect to it.
I've tried disabling the 5GHz band on the E3000, then even setting the 2.4GHz band to no security. I still get a G only connection. My laptop can connect to 2.4GHz and get 144Mbps N speeds.Router is at latest firmware.I've researched this online, but can't find anything concrete.

I bought this router to replace my WNDR3700v1 (by Netgear).Although on short distance the Netgear is outperformed, on the other site of the house the 2,4GHz signal is lost often (where the Netgear would still work). Both routers are located on the same location (not simultaneously) and settings are identical (channel, band, security, etc.).
I was wondering if I could get more performance out of the TP-Link by positioning the antennas in different angles. All antennas were positioned vertically and I also tried having the outer antennas under 30 degrees.

I set up my new EA4500 last night, and configured the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz bands with separate SSIDs (as recommended). While I can see the 2.4Ghz band with all of my devices, I cannot see the 5Ghz band with any of them.I followed the advice given (including the settings shown) on the EA4500 FAQ.Title: Personalizing and connecting to the 5 GHz wireless band on a Linksys Wireless-N routerArticle ID: 21466.Did that *multiple* times, and still nothing. I do have a dual-band capable adapter (Netgear RangeMax WNDA3100 Dual Band Wireless-N Adapter) that I know works on 5Ghz (because I had it working on my old dual-band WDNR3700v1). Similarly, I have PCs sitting less than 20 feet away that were previously able to see the 5Ghz band on my old router, but are now unable to see it on the EA4500.

I'm using a WDR3600 router, and I'm having difficulty with getting internet access on the 5 GHz band. Right now the router is broadcasting in both 2.4 and 5 GHz as two separate APs. The 2.4 GHz band works perfectly fine, but when I connect to the 5 GHz band my device is not assigned an IP address and cannot connect to the internet (or even the router configuration page). Unfortunately, I don't have another device capable of accessing the 5 GHz band, so I can't check to see if the computer is at fault, but both the computer and the router have worked together with no problems before, and this computer has done fine in accessing other 5 GHz bands.

I have been using the Asus RT-n53 for about a year now and had little to no problems with it. Lately, my wife's iPhone has been dropping its connection to the RT-n53. It was probably a problem with her piece of apple crap, but I thought I would update the firmware on the RT-n53. I found that my firmware was way out of date, so I updated to the latest version.
With the newest firmware installed, I can no longer detect the 5Ghz band with my PlayBook. Before the update, all of the other devices in the house were not 5Ghz capable, so my PlayBook was the only device that used the 5Ghz radio on the RT-n53. Now, the SSID for the 5Ghz band just isn't there any more. In the configuration settings for the RT-n53, everything points to "it should be working"... 5Ghz radio is enabled, SSID broadcast is enabled. I have tried changing the wireless mode from "N Only" to "Auto" to "Legacy". I have fiddled with channel settings, encryption settings, etc. Even tried changing the SSID a few times. Multiple reboot, and still, the 5Ghz SSID just doesn't appear on any devices.

We've been using an 655 in an NGO office that has grown to 20+ computers in two buildings (next to each other). The 655 doesn't seem to be handling that many clients very well so I want to get another one (perhaps a more powerful unit). We will stay operating on 2.5Ghz, have one of the units act as an AP in the other building (too bad we can't bridge with these). Most of the router activity is LAN based (server, etc). Our Internet connection is only 256kbps satellite (and is proxied first through the server). But the LAN performance is not good when many clients are active and some services on the router will freeze and require reboot several times a week, assuming b/c it's overtaxed.
1. know if the 825 will perform better in in 2.5ghz only mode than the 655? Seems that it has more RAM. Newer processor too? The tests I saw online showed that the 655 outperformed the 825 in simultaneously connections, but I assume that was probably in dual mode. I want to know if the 825 will be better in 2.5ghz only mode. We won't need 5ghz mode.
2. Is there another newer DLink I should consider that would provide better capacity and throughput on 2.5ghz only? However, it is ciritical that we keep the same feature set for security (IP based access control rules to various IP ranges on the Internet).
3. It would be awesome if some DLink supported even more sources and/or destinations per access control rule. We use these extensively and the 655 B1 2.01 build has several bugs for access control rules. Is there any DLink that has more robust access control or is it about the same for all?
