We have an SG300 managed switch located in a small business of less than 10 PCs. There has been an ongoing issue with Internet speed. Is there any way that I can monitor the router for traffic so that I can see what might be causing the problem? I would like to focus on the WAN port and Internet activity particularly.

I've tried every "break" option i could find, and this thing does not seem to let me get in. I asked the seller for the password, and they refused (though i cant even get to a prompt to enter a password) or ROMMON. The unit comes up and reports its trying to connect to "Translating "stipp.srv.hcvlny.cv.net"...domain server" once it comes up, and thats it. [code]
View 34 Replies View RelatedRecently I bought RV220W router and found out that PPPoE connection option or profile do no have service name field at all. Unfortunately, my ISP requires this to be able to connect. I had done some research before buying this router by going through online device manager demos on cisco website. RV220's interface is not available, but RV215 is and I checked out some of the common features between both routers. Surprisingly RV215's PPPoE connection settings has service name option.
I suppose, unless there is new firmware update (my current router is already running the latest available firmware), this option cannot be added in the interface. What I want to know is, is there any way to configure the router to use the service name in PPPoE option or in PPPoE profiles? I don't think RV220W can be accessed via terminal/SSH or maybe even terminal.
I am in need of a Static IP alternative (My ISP chooses not to offer the service). I do not need the Static IP to access my own devices. I need to access other networks as a "trusted" user.

I am working with a company who uses an Access database that checks members in and out of a gym. 6-8 people work in the database at any given time. Several times a day the users will get a network error and they have to force the database to close. Sometimes this happens to all of the users and sometimes to just certain ones. I believe the problem lies with the database (due to poor programming) but I want to monitor the network connectivity to see if and when the network connection is dropped and determine if that corresponds with when users begin seeing network errors in the database.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am working with a friend who has a home office that is not in a location where DSL or Cable is available. His only option for internet is using a hotspot - in this case, the Elevate Hot Spot from AT&T.
He needs to network two computers so that he can enable QuickBooks Pro in multi user mode - i.e., data file shared on Computer A, accessed by Computer B.
I thought at first that perhaps I could just setup a wireless connection for the office network - however, whenever that connection is on, then obviously neither computer can access the hotspot.
Trying to keep this at *minimal* cost.
My best idea is to old school network - i.e., connect the two computers via crossover ethernet. Am I correct that this will work? Seems to me that then both computers *should* still be able to access the hotspot via their wifi, yet also be networked for file sharing.
My questions are:
1.) Is this a correct assessment?
2.) Are there any road blocks I should be thinking about?
3.) Any reason not to do a direct connection (i.e., any reason I should entertain connecting to a switch instead?)
4.) Is there a certain order I should do things?
I recently bought dell n5110. It is not giving me wireless option. I go to Network and sharing center -> set up a new connection -> connect to the internet.. and it shows me only dial up and broadband option.
I did Fn+F2 to switch on my wireless.
EMC replication between two NS-120 devices is much slower then the WAN link should preform at. In fact doing a simply CIFS transfer off between same EMC hardware over same network results in much better preformance on par with expectations. EMC engineers believe the issue is due to the TCP Sack option being removed somewhere in the network layer between the two units resulting in data flow issues.
Site 1: EMC NS-120 connected to 1GB interfaces on Cisco 3750 switches. Traffic crosses IPSec Site-To-Site Tunnel over WAN link (20MB Internet connection) between Cisco ASA 5510 - 5540.
Site 2: EMC NS-120 connected to 10GB interfaces on Dell PowerConnect 8024 Switches
From what I understand TCP Sack option should be passed by default on all current Cisco switches / ASA equipment. Is that a correct assumption. For the most part we have not modified the standard features on any of the switches or firewalls. Would it potentially be removed in the IPSec Tunnel?
I live in a shared flat. And all 20 rooms are connected to this switch I believe. Is there any method to prevent the landlord/tech guy monitoring our internet activity (e.g. bandwidith activity, websites we looked at, etc.

My parent's have rented out my room, since I'm going to college, and I was wondering if there was a way to monitor the traffic that is going on in my network. Once the guy moved in, the wireless connection speed drastically decreased. I was barely able to sure the internet on my laptop. I currently have about 8 devices connected to my network. I am running a wired connection for my desktop so I don't feel any lag, but everything else runs on wifi.

I would like to track available bandwidth continuously (or every 5, 10, 15 minutes) and log that data so I can show them the results. I'm on a Mac 10.7 but can use Windows XP also.
My ISP provide me with Thomson TG799vn (Gateway). The modem can be used with LAN cable and wifi function on it too.
The only computer that's directly connected to it is mine and I am currently using Ubuntu Oneiric and Windows 7. Is there anyway that I could monitor user (disconnect / ban any unwanted connection) connected to my modem.

Here's the basic set up of my problem:We have 40 medical facilities in five Western States, each with up to 30+ pieces of hardware including thin clients, PCs, laptop computers and wall mounted touch screen kiosks operating on a variety of OS including primarily XP pro, then Linux and transitioning into Win 7.We have installed Aruba wireless network in each building on which our mobile medical cart laptops connect. Each facility has a different mix of primary and backup/failover ISP from DSL, Cable, T1 to Bonded T. All are at or exceed 22MB down, 5MB up save the T1s at their dedicated 1.5 and we monitor speeds and network stats trhough our gateway device. PfSense.All employees connect through an RDP (Remote Connection) to our hosting company in Atlanta, GA where the farm of about 28 servers reside hosting our medical, email and office applications.We regularly are contacted by nursing and clinical office staff complaining that "the network is slow". We review connection speeds, loads, ping times and confirm that there are no ISP Speed issues that are causing the "Slowness". However when we review exactly what the nurses mean by "slow" it invariably turns to how long it takes to log in to the RDP sessions and access then run their medical applications in the RDP. They often sit and wait for the RDP to load for five minutes or more and complain of waiting for their typing to catch up in the applications they work in.
We believe the slowness occurs once they are connected in the RDP and that their problems are occurring at the hosting company's facility, getting through their firewall, through profile management and server hardware/software but we can not prove this is the case because the hosting company always claims they see perfectly acceptable speeds and access on their side and we are locked out from access to monitor tehir environment. Changing hosting companies is probelmatic because they are specialised in our industry and leaving would be diffcult. I need some software that I can install on a few machines in a select few of our facilities that will track and record the actual user experience so that we can watch and review exactly what is happening, what the network stats look like and precisely where the user is experiencing "slowness".
Is there any way to hide my activity on the network? My network administrator monitors our network activity, specifically chat.

We have an ASA5510 with a backup ISP connection protecting our corporate network. I also have a mail server and I would like to route SMTP traffic over the backup network. I realize that the ASA5510 does not support PBR, but I also know that I can use static NAT rules as a workaround to direct specific types of traffic over a particular interface (e.g. "static (outside,inside) tcp 0.0.0.0 www 0.0.0.0 www netmask 0.0.0.0" and "static (backup,inside) tcp 0.0.0.0 smtp 0.0.0.0 smtp netmask 0.0.0.0"). is it possible to use something similar to force a particular host to use a specific interface? I have tried to make this work on my own without success. Is it even possible?

We run a call center in house so I am trying to determine at the very least how much of this traffic is from voice data compared to everything else.Was running through our networking configuration and it just seems off to me. The following is the flow.

Everything up to the first switch is a single line. The first switch has all ports running out except 1 which goes to the second switch. The second switch runs out to machines as well.
I am at the networking level where I understand a switch but have no idea what the IAD really does between the etherloop modem and the wireless router.
For some reason I feel like the router should not be setup in that manner and should be off of the switch. With the cisco IAD running directly to the first switch. So my 2 big questions are.
1. Does this setup even make sense.
2. Whats the easiest way to monitor traffic, at the very least it would be nice to see real time up/down and be able to log in. Then I guess using ports figure out what is being used by voice. My first guess was just putting a machine between the IAD and first switch and monitor and log the traffic.

This means that in order for the channel between two routers to be active, you must disable signaling on switches (such as the Cisco 6500/7600 Series) in the channel, and configure the switches in ON mode."
So, my question is, if lacp isn't supported, is there another way to mimic its functionality on a 12000 series router? I want to connect 2 routers together with a port channel that will pass through our layer 2 network, and I want to make sure that any failures in the path will shut down the affected link on both routers.
