Cisco WAN :: Lacp Alternative For Port Channel On 12000 Series Router?

Jan 23, 2012

I found the following on the link bundling page for the 12000 series router:"In both EtherChannel and POS channel link bundles, the Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) for signalling and the 802.3ad protocol for automatic negotiation of the channel are not supported. This means that in order for the channel between two routers to be active, you must disable signaling on switches (such as the Cisco 6500/7600 Series) in the channel, and configure the switches in ON mode."

So, my question is, if lacp isn't supported, is there another way to mimic its functionality on a 12000 series router?  I want to connect 2 routers together with a port channel that will pass through our layer 2 network, and I want to make sure that any failures in the path will shut down the affected link on both routers.

Cisco Firewall :: Alternative To PBR On ASA5510

Mar 30, 2011

We have an ASA5510 with a backup ISP connection protecting our corporate network.  I also have a mail server and I would like to route SMTP traffic over the backup network.  I realize that the ASA5510 does not support PBR, but I also know that I can use static NAT rules as a workaround to direct specific types of traffic over a particular interface (e.g. "static (outside,inside) tcp 0.0.0.0 www 0.0.0.0 www netmask 0.0.0.0" and "static (backup,inside) tcp 0.0.0.0 smtp 0.0.0.0 smtp netmask 0.0.0.0"). is it possible to use something similar to force a particular host to use a specific interface? I have tried to make this work on my own without success.  Is it even possible?

Cisco :: Inexpensive Alternative For Small Mpls Sites?

Our company is starting to open a lot of small mpls sites across the nation. By small I mean less than 10 users, voip, 1 dc, that's it. Instead of getting the usual 2901+2960 combo, I'm interested in finding less expensive solutions. Maybe an L3 switch like a 3750? These are temporary sites so management is fine with looking into used, non smartnet covered gear?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: ASA 5510 Routing Specific Traffic To Inside Router

Nov 7, 2012

I have an ASA 5510, with Ethernet0 connected to Internet via a T1 line, Ethernet1 connected to LAN1, and Ethernet2 connected to LAN2.  LAN1 & LAN2 are independant, but share the Internet connection, via the T1 line.  On LAN2, I have another router that connects to the Internet, via a Comcast line.  I wish to route some of the traffic on LAN2 (10.38.77.0) to the other Router, on LAN2 (10.38.77.12) (connected to the Comcast line).  I have entered the following lines:

route inside2 10.11.0.0 255.255.0.0 10.38.77.12 1
route inside2 10.252.0.0 255.255.0.0 10.38.77.12 1
route inside2 172.22.6.0 255.255.255.0 10.38.77.12 1

I can trace the routes from the ASA 5510 (1st hop is to 10.38.77.12), but not from anything else on LAN2.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 VLAN Routing Between Switch And Router

May 8, 2012

I have an environment of 3 X 3560G of which I have 1st switch-CORE(f0/10) connecting to the VPN router(CE) interface-f0/0. Remaining 2 Cisco 3560's(Access) are connected to Gi0/1 and Gi0/2 on the 1st switch-CORE via gi0/1 . On all three switches I have created multiple VLANs and assigned ports to these VLAN. The switch to switch connection is trunk allowing all VLANs created on all these 3 switches. Now the issue is how I am going to have all these VLANs routed through single interface on the routeri-e f0/0, as all these subnets will communicating to remote site over VPN. What should be default gateway on the 2 Access switches and the CORE switch, also what static route should be on router to reach all subnets(VLANs) created on these 3 switches.

I have read inter-VLAN routing i-e creating sub interfaces on router but dont want to proceed with that and looking for any other way to have my VLANs talk on all three switches and then are accessible to remote site ove VPN?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Moving Routing From Perimeter Router To 3750x?

All the routing is handled by the 1811 via secondary interfaces on vlan1?

I have 192 ports, and subnets show up on almost all of them.  None of the ports are assigned to any specific vlans.  Most ports have several subnets on them.

What is the best approach to getting the 3750x to handle the routing?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: GNS3 - Stub Router Not Updating Routing Table - EIGRP

Nov 14, 2012

We have small which I'm looking to implement and have built this on GNS3.

We have:

Router A in site 1
Router B in site 2
Router C in site 3

Router A and B are connection via a point to point 100M link and from Router C we have a 2 point to point one of which is 5Mpbs and going to Router A and Router B.

For Router C to reach Router A network it will go via Router B and these are 100M connection. When the link between Router A and B goes down. Router C should update and start using the 5m route.

For some reson, the routes are not updating. I have to do 'clea ip eigrp ne' for the routes to update and if I reload the routers all works well, it seems the problem is intermittent.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: How To Add SSL VPN To 891 IS Router

Jun 26, 2012

I have an 891 router setup to support 4 VLANS with 4 DHCP pools. The router is in place at a charity HQ and I have been asked to setup remote access for around 8 users who will need to be able to connect to a NAS drive via IP on one of the VLANS. I have had some experience with SonicWall devices that use SSL VPN's and would like to do similar here.Can someone start me on the right track to get this working.

- Presumably I need an SSL-VPN license for the router.
- What sort of client will my Windows and Mac based clients need? (with sonicwall it was a proprietary cilent called NetExtender)
- Any other pointers or comments?

I'm not a Cisco engineer, but did manage to set the network up thus far. Everything about this charity is non-profit / cost including the support staff like myself

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Router 101 For Dummies?

Jun 19, 2012

I am a service provider, with the task of installing a systech device at a site, and was told all I needed was DHCP enabled and dynamic IP for the internet.  The site just put in broadband and their router has a single port.  I picked up a linksys dsl router to use as a router/switch to enable more ports for the internet.  If I hook the broadband router into the internet port of the linksys, I can not get internet access on my laptop through it.  If I hook the broadband to port 1 and my laptop to port 2, I have internet access.  If I hook the systech device to port 3, the support team says they cannot see the device.  But, if I hook the broadband directly to the systech box, they can find the mac address and download to it.  I have set the linksys to default settings, but will not work.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Can 876 ISR Act As Router On Stick

Nov 30, 2012

It doesn't seem like I can set up trunking (dot1q) on this device. Isn't it supported on this device? Can I still set up VLANs with the router-on-a-stick concept working internal in the device, i.e no external interfaces/subinterfaces being configured? If so, can I then connect VLANs to other switches? I have:

-876 ISR
-Catalyst 2960
-SLM2008

I know the small biz switch supports VLANs and I think trunking as well--obviously the 2960 supports it. Is there a way with these devices to configure one VLAN for servers/net devices and another for regular end-user computers so that they still talk to one another, or do I need a different router in the mix?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 888 And 878 Router Unreachable?

Dec 13, 2012

The problem is that that the routers are not reachable form the corporate LAN after some time. Pinging the routers IP is not working anymore. When the network cable is unplugged and plugged in again the routers are responding again. The same applies when I connect my Laptop to the router. The interface is responsive right after I connect the cable. Also other devices on the network can ping the router. But after a few hours or sometimes 1,5 day the router is unreachable form the corporate network.

The problem first started a few weeks ago. The configuration did not change. The router 878 was not responsing and after changing all the cables and conncting it to another swith the problem remained. So I suspected a hardware failure and bought a replacement 888. After configuring the 888 it showed the same behaviour as the 878 router. The DSL connection is working all the time. I can even set up a vpn connection to the router and start a telnet session. than I can ping the internap IP of the router but pinging another device is not working.

What I noticed after the command sh int vlan1 is that the last input counter keeps increasing.whats causing this or how to debug?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: C800 - Connection Using DSL To Router / Hub?

The bt router is on 192.168.1.x. When I connect a pc to the cisco router, and assign an ip address e.g. 192.168.3.123 it doesn't have any internet connectivity, but when I set it to get the ip automatically, it gets the ip address.
