Cisco announced EOL for ws-x6148A-GE-45AF line card and proposed WS-X6148E-GE-45AT. However this card seems not to be supported by the SUP2T-10G supervisor. Which alternative card should I take for this EOL line card, or can I use the proposed line card (use extra daughter card DFC4)?

I have implemented in my company network recommended by cisco scheme with MEC etherchannel from some segment distribution layer (VSS) to core switches (legacy 650x) exactly as on picture: Core switches have rather old IOS (Version 12.2(33)SRB4 and i have reasons not to upgrade it now) which dont support many functions - like BFD over Etherchannels and Enhanced PAgP. And we run a OSPF/MP-BGP/MPLS bunch over those links with OSPF reference bandwidth configured to such values that failure of one link in etherchannel will not lead to link cost changes (we dont have a lot of traffic for now on those links and 1 link can handle it easily) and consequently will not trigger changes to RIB and BGP topology table.
Problem is that i am afraid that in case of one of link of portchannel will fail (but without port down event - unidirectional link or smth else) it will take rather long time to converge - and im talking about L2, not L3 protocols. Cos i cant implement BFD and ePaGP over this link - best i can do that improve 30 seconds PAgP hello timer to 1 second. But at least 3 seconds of possible traffic blackholed - is rather big problem.First time i considered 2 possible solutions:
1) BFD - but even i can use it, it will not improve much recovery time cos 750 ms for BFD over etherchannel not much better that 1 second PaGP fast timer.
2) ePAgP - as i understand this protocol have enhancements to discover failed link faster and improve recovery time, but all information i can find about it - is how to use it for dual active detection and none about timers improvements. So i cant be sure that i should upgrade IOS on Core switches and it will improve my failure detection time. ( if it possible adduce some links to description of this protocol enhancements in comparison with PAGP)
For now im already thinking about using four L3 links (instead of 2 portchannels) and BFD over those links with 50 ms hello timer. But in case of link failure reconvergence of OSPF will take some time, and BGP will react to this no immediately, so i am afraid that even using aggressive timers for routing processes and hellos i will not win much time.
I urgently want to replace a faulty line card WS-X6748-SFP with a new one. The switch concern is a 5609-V-E operating in Virtual Switching System mode.How long do you suggest the down time will be?

If I mixed the 68xx and 69xx series line card, do I get 80Gbps for the 6900x and 40gbps for the 68xx line card? Or would the 69xx series line card be downgraded to 40Gbps?
From my understanding, the 68xx series has a DFC card and thus the fabric speed operates independently.

As a result we are not able to enable the VSS functionality. We are looking to replace the existing line cards with the following:
1. 1 x WS-X6716-10G-3C
2. 1 x WS-X6724-SFP
3. 4 x WS-X6724-GE-TX
What are the requirements in terms of IOS and Roman.

Is it possible to use a 10GE interface on a sup720 and an interface from a 671610GE line card and create a port channel. I haven't found specific documentation on CCO stating you can. I have found the QOS queuing is differnet between the sup and line card.

I am writing with regard to a high memory utilization that we have on a pair of line card WS-X6748-GE-TX and WS-X6724-SFP for a VSS 6500. I am enclosing a little part of the "show tech"of this VSS 6500 where is possible to see the high memory utilization of the line cards 1/1, 1/2, 2/1, and 2/2, in despite of having some ports in state connected. One of our cisco parnter engineers stated that cisco doenst recommend using same line card for multiple VDCs.The second VDC (Non-Default VDC) will be used four our Outside, and DMZ Segment, and to phyiscally segregate our Firewall from our Internal/Inside Core Switch without using a physical DMZ Switch.I know Cisco used the Nexus in this way in their PCI DSS 2.0 Compliance Document. I was configuring a new Catalyst 2960 switch and had forgotten to set the speed back to 9600 after downloading the new IOS software image. I finished doing all of my configurations and went in to line con 0 to change the speed back to 9600. The change was accepted and I did a 'wr' to save the change, but when I reload the switch it is back to 115200.

This is a new out of the box 4500 and I installed the Sup 6 Line card in Slot #1, And the two 48 port Fiber cards in Slots 2 and 3. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two data centres connected via a L2 DWDM, my manager wants to look into using OTV to get rid of the layer 2 broadcasting issues.
Problem is the DWDM is 1000BaseSX, which is only supported on the N7K-F132XP-15. (and the N7K-M148GS-11 but that doesn't support FCOE, so many bloody caveats). From what I can gather OTV is not supported on the N7K-F132XP-15.
Is it possible to terminate the DWDM on the F1 card & loop another port from the F1 to a port on the N7K-M148GT-11 & run OTV on the M1????
Either using VDCs or just an isolated VLAN on the F1. Is there any better way to do this? Hardware has not yet been purchased.
We need to move some line cards around on our 4510. The top slots have a 24Gbps backplane while the lower slots are limited to 6Gbps. Poor planning on our part has left us with installing a 10Gb line card in one of the bottom slots. I'd like to move a couple of the cards up top, to the bottom.
My question is simply will the switch magically preserve the configuration for those cards and change the slot number for me or will I need to reconfigure the interfaces for those cards I move?
NTP server When I setup NTP server to take time from [URL] everything is working fine but as soon as I reset my router during boot I can see that router is first trying to get time before it's even connected to ATM and when it can't get time from NTP server it's removing NTP line from configuration (ntp server uk.pool.ntp.org source Dialer0 ). How I setup to wait with sync and do it once ATM connection is up and established? Or How to get IOS to leave this line and sync with NTP every 10 min)?
