I was configuring a new Catalyst 2960 switch and had forgotten to set the speed back to 9600 after downloading the new IOS software image. I finished doing all of my configurations and went in to line con 0 to change the speed back to 9600. The change was accepted and I did a 'wr' to save the change, but when I reload the switch it is back to 115200.

I have a Cisco 850 router that whas having problems getting an ip address via DHCP. I did some stuff on it but that didn't work, so I rebooted the router to go back to my last saved startup config. When I turned it back on and connected t othe CLI console I got the "Would you like to enter the initial configuration dialogue?" message. Thinikng I just forgot to save anything to the startup config I went through the initial set up again and made sure to save everything to the startup config. After going through the intial config and setting up a vlan to assign DHCP to clients I saved the config and rebooted, upon reboot and connecting to the CLI console I got the same "Would you like to enter the initial configuration dialogue?" message. Tryign the setup once more and making sure everything was saved to startup config I rebooted again just to make sure the changes would stick, and sure enough they didn't. Whay is the config not saving to the startup config?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 1711 Catalyst router hooked up behind a cable modem. I configured the router, copied running-config to start up-config then wrote it to memory with "write mem". I unplugged router to move it and when I plugged it back in, I had to start from scratch.
Is this normal, or should router be able to save configuration if powered down?
BTW, I'm using Putty to access router console. Is that the hot setup for Windows 7 or is there something better?
I currently am trying to program the config for a 1720 router however i cannot get the config to stick. I boot up to the command prompt put in all the configurations use the "write mem" command and then hard reset the router but when it boots back up I get the initial system configuation dialog.
I have tried booting to the rommon prompt and typing "confreg" and following the prompts keeping all options set to no except for this setting
"enable "ignore system config info"? y/n [n]: Y"
Is set to yes. but when i get to the end of the config it just loops and starts over with
"you wish to change the configuration? y/n [n]: Y"
If i choose yes it loops if I choose no it goes back to the rommon prompt.

This is a new out of the box 4500 and I installed the Sup 6 Line card in Slot #1, And the two 48 port Fiber cards in Slots 2 and 3. Am I missing something, is there a command or set up procidure for the line cards. I just assumed they were plug and play
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two data centres connected via a L2 DWDM, my manager wants to look into using OTV to get rid of the layer 2 broadcasting issues.
Problem is the DWDM is 1000BaseSX, which is only supported on the N7K-F132XP-15. (and the N7K-M148GS-11 but that doesn't support FCOE, so many bloody caveats). From what I can gather OTV is not supported on the N7K-F132XP-15.
Is it possible to terminate the DWDM on the F1 card & loop another port from the F1 to a port on the N7K-M148GT-11 & run OTV on the M1????
Either using VDCs or just an isolated VLAN on the F1. Is there any better way to do this? Hardware has not yet been purchased.
We need to move some line cards around on our 4510. The top slots have a 24Gbps backplane while the lower slots are limited to 6Gbps. Poor planning on our part has left us with installing a 10Gb line card in one of the bottom slots. I'd like to move a couple of the cards up top, to the bottom.
My question is simply will the switch magically preserve the configuration for those cards and change the slot number for me or will I need to reconfigure the interfaces for those cards I move?
NTP server When I setup NTP server to take time from [URL] everything is working fine but as soon as I reset my router during boot I can see that router is first trying to get time before it's even connected to ATM and when it can't get time from NTP server it's removing NTP line from configuration (ntp server uk.pool.ntp.org source Dialer0 ). How I setup to wait with sync and do it once ATM connection is up and established? Or How to get IOS to leave this line and sync with NTP every 10 min)?

At the moment my plan is to upgrade three cards from WS-X4548-GB-RJ45 to X4648 to get the 24Gbps per card.

1. Is this a viable plan?
2. If so can the cards be hot-swapped?
3. Would the new cards retain the existing interface settings of the previous cards?
4. Any gotchas to look out for?
Cisco Catalyst 6509 Chassis.We have moved a line card from slot 8 to slot 6, but config remains for the line card in slot 8 and nothing is seen in slot 6.

when replacing a line card on a 6500, i gather there is no config stored on the card, its all held on the sup, so when i put in another card the config will be the same?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI work for a Wireless ISP and the device impacted is the back haul radio into the site. I have swapped from a 2950T to a 3550. Replaced the radio, PoE, patch lead. We have re ran the cable up the tower using shielded outdoor cable with a drain wire which has been earthed to an earthing block in the cabinet. We have other devices on the tower not experiencing the issue. We suspect cable interference however am now at a loss to diagnose further.

The bug details is not disclosed. So I further search what the default memory size of the WS-F6700-CFC is, then I found here says it is only supported by Sup720 and no memory upgrade option, which means must upgrade to DFC4, in another words, it is not compatible with Sup-2T

If I mixed the 68xx and 69xx series line card, do I get 80Gbps for the 6900x and 40gbps for the 68xx line card? Or would the 69xx series line card be downgraded to 40Gbps?
From my understanding, the 68xx series has a DFC card and thus the fabric speed operates independently.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIs the ADSL line interface on Cisco 877W not initialising a known issue? This interface on my router has been in this state for more than one month, with the rest of the router seemingly operational. The interface was connected directly to my ADSL broadband and worked well for two years. But then, about a month ago, the interface went down. I saw the exact moment this happened recorded as a syslog message. The only information was that the interface status had changed to down.
Initially I thought this was a matter of reload the router and all will be well. Did not happen. Then I thought my broadband connection was to blame. However, this option was quickly ruled out. So I went on to exhaust all troubleshooting options, including reflashing the router with the saved image and totally changing the configuration. Still no change. I have had to go back to my old BT home hub for internet access. In terms of speed this actually works a lot better than the Cisco router. But I would still rather have the router connected to my broadband line. What can I do to bring the ADSL interface back to life?
I have 2 x WS-X4548-GB-RJ45 Catalyst 4500 Enhanced 48-Port 10/100/1000 Base-T (RJ-45) line cards in a 4500 chassis with 2 x WS-C4507R-E E-Series Super visor engines. We would like to create a layer 3 ether channel from a access layer switch terminating on our 4500 chassis. Can we configure the ether channel from the access layer switch such that one port on the ether channel is on one line card and the other one is on the other line card?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently changed the entire configuration on two 6509 switches, and the fibre modules on slot 7 and 8 have gone down on BOTH switches. It would be easy to say that its a hardware fault but I cannot understand how module 7 and 8 can go down on both switches. Initially I thought it maybe due to IOS bug 22-33.SXI2a.bin" so I upgraded it to s72033-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF12a.bin but it still down.These are the actions I have carrried out to try resolve the issue:
- Reverted back to orginal configs but no luck
- Tried to use "power enable" command but the status light on both modules seems to turn red and then go off again.
- I have also tried to put one of the fibre modules into a different slot but no joy
- Upgraded the IOS from 22-33.SXI2a. to 122-18.SXF12a
I am sure that hardware fault cannot occur on BOTH modules 7 & 8 on BOTH switches after config change.The error in the log shows that modules "failed to bring online because of registration timer event". I understand this means that it is unable to download the image within the allocated time. [code]
We are planning to replace a few line cards in the existing 6509-E chassis. The sup installed is a VS-S720-10G-3C but the line cards are legacy. As a result we are not able to enable the VSS functionality. We are looking to replace the existing line cards with the following:
1. 1 x WS-X6716-10G-3C
2. 1 x WS-X6724-SFP
3. 4 x WS-X6724-GE-TX
What are the requirements in terms of IOS and Roman.
