Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750G / How To Measure Respond Time

Jan 29, 2012

How can I measure a respond time from a switchport to another? What I intend to do is to measure packets transmission from a server. I have a Cisco 3750G in stack, and the server is connecting to it with a 1GE NIC. How do I measure from Cisco prospective? Any tools available from Cisco to measure such respond time? I have a PRTG on bandwidth management on this particular server switchport and it is around 45-70Mbps, which is less than 10% of 1GE interface.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4900M WS-X4908-10G-RJ45 Port Startup Delay

Mar 4, 2013

We have recently purchased 2 x 4900M switches with the following configuration:

2 x X2-10GB-SR installed in port te1/1, 1/2 (optical)

1 x 20 x 1GB RJ45 installed in the top left of chasis ge2/1 - 2/20

1 x WS-X4908-10G-RJ45 8 port 1/2 card in the top right of chassis te3/1 - 3/8

We have te1/1 connecting the 2 switches, and various vlan's and connections on the 1GB RJ45's with no problems.

However, we have a number of 10Gbps BaseT connections te3/1 - te3/5 which are causing us issues. On a reload of the switch or removal / re-install of the cable it can take anywhere up to an hour for the port to become active again. So when we reload the switch, we may get a connection come up after say 3 mins, but the port next to it may not come up for 15-60 min. The cabling is all the same (CAT6 and has been tested/verified) and all connections go to Broadcom 10Gb cards in Dell 820 servers running vmware. We have the following set on the ports:

switchport mode access
spanning-tree portfast

No speed or duplex can be set on these ports - these options are not available in the config.

Once a link is finally established, it will hold the link solid with no problems, but this is a problem for us, we can't have a reboot take an undetermined amount of time for the link to come back.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 Switch - ICMP Delay To Default Gateway

Aug 25, 2012

I had setup a lan infrastructure with 5 3750 stack swithes. In these 3 of them are in one stack which is acting as access switch, 2 of them in another stack which is as core switch where all the SVI is configured. Now, when i tried to ping from our edge pc which is connected in access switch to default gaeway, which is configured in core switch, the ICMP is getting delayed . But when try to ping from the same edge pc to another user PC, it is getting less tahn 1 millisecond icmp replies.

why icmp is delaying to default gateway , but working with another edge to edge pcs without any delays?

Protocols / Routing :: Measure Network Occupation Per VLANs

Jan 7, 2013

The question is apparently simple. A network is given, consisting of

- 1 network core switch: HP 5500-EI (Layer3)

- 4 access switches: HP 5120-EI (Layer2)

They are connected in the shape of a star (the core switch in the center)The task is to measure the occupation rate of this network on a per-VLAN basis.

For example : To be able to generate statistics like: During the last week - Monday to Sunday - the netowork occupation with VLAN 10 traffic was 30% and VLAN 60 traffic was 70%.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 7000 OTV With F1 Line Cards?

Jul 17, 2012

I have two data centres connected via a L2 DWDM, my manager wants to look into using OTV to get rid of the layer 2 broadcasting issues.

Problem is the DWDM is 1000BaseSX, which is only supported on the N7K-F132XP-15.   (and the N7K-M148GS-11 but that doesn't support FCOE, so many bloody caveats). From what I can gather OTV is not supported on the N7K-F132XP-15.

Is it possible to terminate the DWDM on the F1 card & loop another port from the F1 to a port on the N7K-M148GT-11 & run OTV on the M1????

Either using VDCs or just an isolated VLAN on the F1. Is there any better way to do this? Hardware has not yet been purchased.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Moving Line Cards On 4510R-E?

Apr 2, 2013

We need to move some line cards around on our 4510.  The top slots have a 24Gbps backplane while the lower slots are limited to 6Gbps.  Poor planning on our part has left us with installing a 10Gb line card in one of the bottom slots.  I'd like to move a couple of the cards up top, to the bottom.

My question is simply will the switch magically preserve the configuration for those cards and change the slot number for me or will I need to reconfigure the interfaces for those cards I move?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Upgrading Line Cards - 4510R-E

Feb 4, 2013

At the moment my plan is to upgrade three cards from WS-X4548-GB-RJ45 to X4648 to get the 24Gbps per card.

Supervisors are 6-E

1. Is this a viable plan?

2. If so can the cards be hot-swapped?

3. Would the new cards retain the existing interface settings of the previous cards?

4. Any gotchas to look out for?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Does WS-X67XX Line Cards Support By Sup-2T VSS

Aug 29, 2012

I read the document,  [URL]

[
Q.I have Cisco 6700 Series line cards today with Centralized Forwarding Cards (CFCs). Are these line cards supported in a Cisco Supervisor Engine 2T system?
#
A. A Cisco Supervisor Engine 2T system will support all Cisco 6700 Series line cards with CFCs.
]

So, As long as the 67XX line card is using CFC, it is compatible with Sup-2T.

I also find the IOS release note indicate the 6704-10G with CFC is supported by Sup-2T, but it require 512M memory.

[URL]

The bug details is not disclosed.  So I further search what the default memory size of the WS-F6700-CFC is, then I found here says it is only supported by Sup720 and no memory upgrade option, which means must upgrade to DFC4, in another words, it is not compatible with Sup-2T

[URL]

WS-F6700-CFC:
Centralized Forwarding Card (CFC) for use on WS-X67xx Ethernet modules. This daughter card is supported only by the Supervisor Engine 720. There are no memory options for this daughter card. default memory: 256M

So my question is: whether “WS-X6724-SFP with CFC” and “WS-X6704-10G with CFC” compatible with Sup-2T without upgrading to DFC4 daughter card, and do they support in VSS-2T?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Line Card Speed With 6800 And 6900?

Jan 26, 2013

The WS-X68xx series line card has a fabric of 40Gbps and a 16 Port 10GE has a 4:1 oversubscription rate. The WS-X6908-10G has a fabric speed of 80Gbps and has a 1:1 oversubscription rate.

If I mixed the 68xx and 69xx series line card, do I get 80Gbps for the 6900x and 40gbps for the 68xx line card? Or would the 69xx series line card be downgraded to 40Gbps?

From my understanding, the 68xx series has a DFC card and thus the fabric speed operates independently.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 877W ADSL Line Interface Not Initializing?

Jan 19, 2012

Is the ADSL line interface on Cisco 877W not initialising a known issue? This interface on my router has been in this state for more than one month, with the rest of the router seemingly operational. The interface was connected directly to my ADSL broadband and worked well for two years. But then, about a month ago, the interface went down. I saw the exact moment this happened recorded as a syslog message. The only information was that the interface status had changed to down.

Initially I thought this was a matter of reload the router and all will be well. Did not happen. Then I thought my broadband connection was to blame. However, this option was quickly ruled out. So I went on to exhaust all troubleshooting options, including reflashing the router with the saved image and totally changing the configuration. Still no change. I have had to go back to my old BT home hub for internet access. In terms of speed this actually works a lot better than the Cisco router. But I would still rather have the router connected to my broadband line. What can I do to bring the ADSL interface back to life?
