Cisco Catalyst 6509 Chassis.We have moved a line card from slot 8 to slot 6, but config remains for the line card in slot 8 and nothing is seen in slot 6.
We are running on IOS Verison 12.2 (33SXH2A) i.e. VSS.Blade model number is WS-X6748.
I recently changed the entire configuration on two 6509 switches, and the fibre modules on slot 7 and 8 have gone down on BOTH switches. It would be easy to say that its a hardware fault but I cannot understand how module 7 and 8 can go down on both switches. Initially I thought it maybe due to IOS bug 22-33.SXI2a.bin" so I upgraded it to s72033-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF12a.bin but it still down.These are the actions I have carrried out to try resolve the issue:
- Reverted back to orginal configs but no luck
- Tried to use "power enable" command but the status light on both modules seems to turn red and then go off again.
- I have also tried to put one of the fibre modules into a different slot but no joy
- Upgraded the IOS from 22-33.SXI2a. to 122-18.SXF12a
I am sure that hardware fault cannot occur on BOTH modules 7 & 8 on BOTH switches after config change.The error in the log shows that modules "failed to bring online because of registration timer event". I understand this means that it is unable to download the image within the allocated time. [code]
I urgently want to replace a faulty line card WS-X6748-SFP with a new one. The switch concern is a 5609-V-E operating in Virtual Switching System mode.How long do you suggest the down time will be?

I have L3- Vlans also configured on them with which one switch in primary and the other is secondary. All of sudden last night I got this message on my core switch 2 this for VLAN 1 which is my users LAN, how can I check as to what would have caused the core switch 2 HSRP to be active and then in standby

Also last night i got call from office saying that we are getting huge delay in pinging the default gateway of the user LAN which is the same vlan as the above and it was just for few minutes and then it was back to normal and now when I came to office and check there were no logs in both the core switches. When I checked the cpu utlization it was showing me high on both the switches how can I check as to what would have caused the CPU utilisation to go high all of suddedn?

I previously put this is the 'Video over IP' discussions group, which is not getting any response.I have a 6509 and need to configure QoS on gig line cards that have 1P3Q8T queue structure. I've already got the mls qos configured, and have the correct class maps built for Voice, Video, and Signalling.(I'm not doing autoqos). I have only four classes; voice, video, signalling, and default (best effort).I need to configure the commands on the individual gig ports for the appropriate bandwidths as shown below:
1. 300 VoIP G711 calls x 100kbs/call = 30mbs of priority queue DSCP = EF (46) CoS = 5
2. 150 Video conference calls x 1.5mbs/call = 225mbs DSCP = CS4 (32) CoS = 4
3. 450 Signalling x 13kps/call = 5.8mbs (round to 6mbs) DSCP = CS3 (24) CoS = 3
4. Default class is not marked DSCP & CoS = 0
direct me to a document detailing the order that line cards are supposed to boot in a 6500? I'm noticing random boot sequences in some of my chassis,?Note: We currently run Sup720 3CXL for the most part.

If I mixed the 68xx and 69xx series line card, do I get 80Gbps for the 6900x and 40gbps for the 68xx line card? Or would the 69xx series line card be downgraded to 40Gbps?
From my understanding, the 68xx series has a DFC card and thus the fabric speed operates independently.
We currently have a WS-C6506 chassis with a line-card WS-X6408A-GBIC. Currently we need to replace the chassis by a Ws-6504-E and also the line-card. My question is: What must buy line-card and meets the same specifications of WS-X6408A-GBIC?.

As a result we are not able to enable the VSS functionality. We are looking to replace the existing line cards with the following:
1. 1 x WS-X6716-10G-3C
2. 1 x WS-X6724-SFP
3. 4 x WS-X6724-GE-TX
What are the requirements in terms of IOS and Roman.

Is it possible to use a 10GE interface on a sup720 and an interface from a 671610GE line card and create a port channel. I haven't found specific documentation on CCO stating you can. I have found the QOS queuing is differnet between the sup and line card.

On a number of 6500 chassis it appears that linecard 3 did exist at somepoint, but was removed.Problem is that when issuing the 'show int desc' or 'show ip int brie' the ports for the still appear, and indeed same with 'show run' and 'show conf'.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've 4500 Core Switch with 4507R chassis, Sup V-10GE(WS-X4516-10GE) along with 2 WS-X4306-GB line Cards, but now I require a line card for 14 more fiber up links and I cannot go with 3 of 4306 as there are only 2 slots left. I've checked and found that E series line cards does not work with Sup V Engine.

I am writing with regard to a high memory utilization that we have on a pair of line card WS-X6748-GE-TX and WS-X6724-SFP for a VSS 6500. I am enclosing a little part of the "show tech"of this VSS 6500 where is possible to see the high memory utilization of the line cards 1/1, 1/2, 2/1, and 2/2, in despite of having some ports in state connected. In addition of this, the IOS installed on VSS 6500 is s72033-ipservicesk9_wan-vz.122-33.SXI6.bin for checking if there are some bugs affecting the behaviour of the Switch for this case.

Does Nexus 7K support Multiple VDCs sharing ports on a single line card. One of our cisco parnter engineers stated that cisco doenst recommend using same line card for multiple VDCs.The second VDC (Non-Default VDC) will be used four our Outside, and DMZ Segment, and to phyiscally segregate our Firewall from our Internal/Inside Core Switch without using a physical DMZ Switch.I know Cisco used the Nexus in this way in their PCI DSS 2.0 Compliance Document. Problem I have encountered when upgrading a Cisco 6509 chassis with a new supervisor card from Sup2 to Sup 720b. The 6509 loads and then crashes completely, and when rebooted reloads into rommon.The same upgrade was performed on a similar switch with no apparent problems.

I was configuring a new Catalyst 2960 switch and had forgotten to set the speed back to 9600 after downloading the new IOS software image. I finished doing all of my configurations and went in to line con 0 to change the speed back to 9600. The change was accepted and I did a 'wr' to save the change, but when I reload the switch it is back to 115200.

This is a new out of the box 4500 and I installed the Sup 6 Line card in Slot #1, And the two 48 port Fiber cards in Slots 2 and 3. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two data centres connected via a L2 DWDM, my manager wants to look into using OTV to get rid of the layer 2 broadcasting issues.
Problem is the DWDM is 1000BaseSX, which is only supported on the N7K-F132XP-15. (and the N7K-M148GS-11 but that doesn't support FCOE, so many bloody caveats). From what I can gather OTV is not supported on the N7K-F132XP-15.
Is it possible to terminate the DWDM on the F1 card & loop another port from the F1 to a port on the N7K-M148GT-11 & run OTV on the M1????
Either using VDCs or just an isolated VLAN on the F1. Is there any better way to do this? Hardware has not yet been purchased.
