Cisco Switching/Routing :: 1711 - Router Is Not Saving Configuration

I have a 1711 Catalyst router hooked up behind a cable modem. I configured the router, copied running-config to start up-config then wrote it to memory with "write mem". I unplugged router to move it and when I plugged it back in, I had to start from scratch.
Is this normal, or should router be able to save configuration if powered down?
BTW, I'm using Putty to access router console. Is that the hot setup for Windows 7 or is there something better?

I currently am trying to program the config for a 1720 router however i cannot get the config to stick. I boot up to the command prompt put in all the configurations use the "write mem" command and then hard reset the router but when it boots back up I get the initial system configuation dialog.
I have tried booting to the rommon prompt and typing "confreg" and following the prompts keeping all options set to no except for this setting
"enable "ignore system config info"? y/n [n]: Y"
Is set to yes. but when i get to the end of the config it just loops and starts over with
"you wish to change the configuration? y/n [n]: Y"
If i choose yes it loops if I choose no it goes back to the rommon prompt.

I have a Cisco 850 router that whas having problems getting an ip address via DHCP. I did some stuff on it but that didn't work, so I rebooted the router to go back to my last saved startup config. When I turned it back on and connected t othe CLI console I got the "Would you like to enter the initial configuration dialogue?" message. Thinikng I just forgot to save anything to the startup config I went through the initial set up again and made sure to save everything to the startup config. After going through the intial config and setting up a vlan to assign DHCP to clients I saved the config and rebooted, upon reboot and connecting to the CLI console I got the same "Would you like to enter the initial configuration dialogue?" message. Tryign the setup once more and making sure everything was saved to startup config I rebooted again just to make sure the changes would stick, and sure enough they didn't. Whay is the config not saving to the startup config?

Im new to cisco routes, Im traing to configure a 1711 routes with a dsl 2wire routes, my problem is that Im able to ping anywhere in the routes, but when Im on my computer I can only ping the interfaces on the router but no the 2wire route that gives me access to the internet.

f0 192.168.200.1(Inside NAT) e0 192.168.1.76( 2wire Nat) 192.168.1.254 (Internet)
My computer is getting ip addres 192.168.200.100 when I ping th 192.168.1.76 is fine, but when I try to ping the 192.168.1.254 does not work, Im assuming the cisco has activated a dinamic route from .76 to .254, but it is not working, why?

I was configuring a new Catalyst 2960 switch and had forgotten to set the speed back to 9600 after downloading the new IOS software image. I finished doing all of my configurations and went in to line con 0 to change the speed back to 9600. The change was accepted and I did a 'wr' to save the change, but when I reload the switch it is back to 115200.

I'm having 1841 Router, its configuration is not getting safed. If I reboot the router all my running-config is like default. But when I check my sh startup all the configuration which I did is displayed. Checked the config-registery too and its 0x2142 changed too 0x2102 still the same problem, when reloading the router all the running config is disappeared.

I have a couple of SF300-24 switches. When I made needed configurations using CLI or GUI and then saved all configurations. The problem is that switches do not save configurations after reboot.

I have a number of SFE2000 10/100 24 port POE switches. They are configured and running OK. I want to be able to save the configuration and be able to load that saved configuration into another new swich in the case of a failure.
I have logged in and gone to Admin-File Management-Save Configuration. I then select the 'Backup' radio button and TFTP the configuration to my TFTP server. All works OK and I have a readable text file with the switch configuration on my TFTP server.
I want to be able to restore that saved configuration on to a new switch. I have set the new switch back to factory defaults. I go to Admin-File Management-Save Configuration. I then select the 'Upgrade' radio button and try and uploade the file into the switch. If load to 'Running Configuration' the switch shows a status of 'Copy Finished' but says 'Copy completed with errors' If load to 'Startup Configuration' the switch shows a status of 'Copy Failed' and says 'Copy completed with errors'
I am guessing I should be able to load my saved Configuration back into a switch, shouldn't I??
And yes the switches are running the same firmware 3.0.0.17

I'm running LMS3.2 and RME 4.3.1. I deployed a netconfig job to our network which consisted of approximately 800 devices.The report said that the job completed successfully however some of the devices didn't save thier running config to startup.
Is it possible to add a command or issue another netconfig job just to save the running config, so I can identify if the job fails on some devices? Using the tick box in the netconfig job doesn't seem to alert you if its not successful.

Using the SGE 2010 for Microsoft NAP with 802.1x auth for switch access, which led to a few issues
What i have: An SGE 2010 48 port switch, firmware 3.0.0.17 Firmware upgrade: In order to ensure im not having problems due to old firmware, i tried to upgrade using ros_ls1_bp_ge_bx-3020.ros in order to move to 3.0.2, when uploading the file via TFTP, the upload completes and thats it, nothing happens.Restarting the device: As part of the upgrade process, i thought i might of had to reboot, so i rebooted, and found that all my settings were wiped clean, as if a factory reset had been performed.... and add further to pain, the backup of settings that i had taken do not seem to want to re-apply.NAP support: So i have tested my NPS (radius) server with NTRadping.exe and all is good, however i cannot get the SGE2010 to talk to it.... the authenticator state in the web interface is always listed as initialising.... im not sure if this is a simple incompatibility (hence the attempt at a firmware upgrade), a tag that needs to be set on the radius side or a switch misconfig.
1) how on earth do you upgrade the firmware?
2) why are none of my settings being saved when the device reboots ?

I found a Cisco 1711 router in our storage room and I want to factory restore it so we can mess around with it or use it as a backup.
I connected a console cable to it and in Hyperterminal on a Windows XP box I want to try the CTRL+BREAK sequence to clear it out. I'm not concerned with the current config or finding the password, I just want to wipe it like it's never been used before.

Since upgrading some of computers in my LAN to Windows 7 they all experience upload issues. I have narrowed it down to CBAC inspection on my Cisco 1711 router, I am running IOS 12.3 I have a simple CBAC inspection set for TCP/UDP only without any application-specific inspects. Download works fine however upload does not seem to work atl all- unless I disable the ip inspection. It is all working fine for any Windows XP but not for Windows 7 machines. Is this a known issue, I am not sure how I can go about this - I don't want to build ACLs now for outside interface and disable stateful inspection mechanisms because CBAC has been working fine for me until recently.

I am position to migrate from CatOS 6509 switch to native IOS 6509 switch. long time ago, there was some site to convert automatically based on copy and paste onto the tool, but i can not find.
Does anybody know how to convert CatOS configuration to Native IOS configuration ? It is not IOS change, but it is configuration convert.

I have recently configured a cisco 1921 router for internal routing on my network. Here is what i am trying to accomplish:
Main network 10.65.1.0 mask 255.255.255.0- all office devies and computers.
Second network 10.65.2.0 mask 255.255.255.0 - All plant equipment machinery and production lines
i have configure gig 0/0 for my company network and gig 0/1 for my plant network. I can ping the router from both networks but am unable to route traffic betwenn them. what am i missing?

my trouble is I have a cisco 857w and I have never configured a wireless config for a cisco router before. Ok so i have had a go through the web interface (i know, last resort) and still no joy
Basically what im looking for is to have a visible (broadcast ssid) network with a password (WEP/WPA/WPA2, not picky) and it to be joined to the same vlan as the ethernet ports (VLAN 1).

I have a Cisco 2811 Router. I have two VLANS on the router. The first one of course is VLAN 1 and the second one is one that I created from reading everything from this forum.. it is called VLAN 531
On VLAN one I have an IP address of 10.8.1.1 and on VLAN 531 I have an IP Address of 172.16.1.1, now what I can do is this... I can.. from a workstation on the 10.8.0.0 segment, ping 172.16.1.1 and one server on that segment that has an IP address of 172.16.1.50, which is fine, but what I really want to be able to do is ping our email server which is on a 10.21.0.0 segment and I cannot. Any commands on what I would need to do to make this work as I would like the 172.16.0.0 segment to ping any other part of my LAN of my choosing.

i have to configure 80 Cisco 876 routers, so i planned to copy config via tftp from one configured router to PC, edit it in text editor (change ip addresses, dhcp pools, vpn keys...) and then copy it via tftp to another router, etc... Configuration looks fine and it works when i paste it in cli, but when i copy it via tftp i'm getting strange problems like dhcp not working or snmp not accessible. Am I missing something.

I have not been able to figure out the resolution. The basic premise is to have 3 inside vlan networks controlled by a 1900 series router. Then have that primary LAN router connect to the inside of my ASA5505 Basic, then go out to my ISP Gateway. I have tried hundreds of different static route configurations on my router and asa. I've recently purchased a Cisco catalyst 2960S-24TS-L & setup 3 V LANS 10 (no current IP),20 (192.168.2.1) and 30 (192.168.3.1) to reflect the router V LAN configuration & ip information. When connecting my PC to the switch to test connectivity on (2.1 & 3.1) I'm unable to connect to the the net but can successfully ping GW (int FE0.20 & FE0.30) 192.168.2.1 & 3.1.
The router is an Cisco 1801 & it seems this is where the configuration issue is but I'm unable to figure out how to complete the setup. It has been quite awhile since I've configured a Cisco router.
Ive never had this router connected to a switch so all router switch ports are in the default VLAN1 (192.168.1.2), with FE0 disabled. In trying to get the switch to communicate with the router I made the following router config modifications.
FE0 enabled with subinterfaces configured
FE0.10-currently no ip
FE0.20-192.168.2.1/27
FE0.30-192.168.3.1/27
I have two issues I want to resolve:
1) I do not know what additional steps are required to allow 2.1.& 3.1 V LANs to access the net.
2) I want to disable VLAN1 if possible & use the network IP for VLAN10 (192.168.1.0). I'm unsure how to do this as any change on VLAN1 immediately breaks router access and the router reconfiguration becomes more complicated with changes to the FW ACL etc.

I have 3com router and it is working fine. The issue is that when I am taking the router out of the electricity and reenter it back it will not save my settings and I will have to log in again to change the settings.
