I have an 877W router that I would like to have a 2nd pre-configured backup for. I was thinking of getting another 870 series (probably an 877) router, as the more expensive wireless option is not actually required. Am I right to assume that I could simply copy the contents of my current config.txt file onto the second router?

We were having a discussion in my group about startup vs running configs, and how often some network managers forget to "click save" when they configure a switch. Is there a way to configure Ciscoworks to copy the running config to the startup?
View 2 Replies View RelatedNTP server When I setup NTP server to take time from [URL] everything is working fine but as soon as I reset my router during boot I can see that router is first trying to get time before it's even connected to ATM and when it can't get time from NTP server it's removing NTP line from configuration (ntp server uk.pool.ntp.org source Dialer0 ). How I setup to wait with sync and do it once ATM connection is up and established? Or How to get IOS to leave this line and sync with NTP every 10 min)?
View 9 Replies View Relatedi have major problem with two new Small Business 300 Series switches.Everytime i try to save the running config i get a GUI error message: "Another copy process is active, please try again later."It's also not possible to re-flash the firmware because the GUI stops responding.I have also tried to do this via console access and this produces a "the copy utility is occupied by another user" error message.-> so this is not a browser based problem.My first thought was that the switch (SG 300-28) is faulty so i unpacked the next new one (SF 300)and got the same error messages!Then i had a 2 hour webex support session with the Cisco Small Business Support and they did not found a reason for this behavior.Both switches are working normally, you can configure them, but after a reboot they are back to factory default again There is no possibilty for copy running config to startup config and it's also not possible to flash the firmware.(Web GUI & Console). tell me if this is a fundamental problem of the 300 Series?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Cisco 850 router that whas having problems getting an ip address via DHCP. I did some stuff on it but that didn't work, so I rebooted the router to go back to my last saved startup config. When I turned it back on and connected t othe CLI console I got the "Would you like to enter the initial configuration dialogue?" message. Thinikng I just forgot to save anything to the startup config I went through the initial set up again and made sure to save everything to the startup config. After going through the intial config and setting up a vlan to assign DHCP to clients I saved the config and rebooted, upon reboot and connecting to the CLI console I got the same "Would you like to enter the initial configuration dialogue?" message. Tryign the setup once more and making sure everything was saved to startup config I rebooted again just to make sure the changes would stick, and sure enough they didn't. Whay is the config not saving to the startup config?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI messed up the IOS on the flash of CISCO881-SEC-K9. On reboot it booted to ROMMON which allowed me to tftp up a working IOS c880data-universalk9-mz.151-4.M3.bin. Unfortunately somewhere in my playing around the default startup configuration factory loaded on the routerhas been erased. I can load a new a config on the device but as I'm using the router to learn its useful to have the original config load when I factory reset the device. What is the factory start up config?

But if I do show startup-config the old Fex interfaces still shows up. I did try write erase then saved the running-config and its still there.

I've created a BVI2 where I bridged dot11 0.2 and vlan2 in order to have wired and wireless clients in the same vlan.Some wired client are not reachable from the lan. Wireless clients have no pbl in reaching each other.Monitoring a MAC address that is supposed to be behind the FA2 I have noticed that it moves to vlan2 when in fact it should be behind the FA2.Of course when "show mac-address-table" says it is behind Fa2 the ping to that MAC address works whereas when the TCAM reports it is behind vlan2 it doesn't. Once the MAC address is behind the vlan2 if I clear the mac-address-table and that mac-address is still put behinf Fa2 then the pings works again, sometime I have to perform twice the clear command before the MAC address goes back to the right location.I'd like to understand why the router moves that MAC address from Fa2 to vlan2 and that's the reason for my question in the subject.I don't have any problems for port Fa0 and Fa1."Show int fa2" doesn't show any problem/errors or the likes.BTW even if I force that MAC address to be statically behind FA2 the ping works fine but then stops and if I do "show mac-add" the static entry for it is still there... so looks like there us something that overrides that static entry. If clear everything and I have the mac-address be behind Fa2 then everything starts to work again. I used Fa3 instead of Fa2 and I get the same results.

Is the ADSL line interface on Cisco 877W not initialising a known issue? This interface on my router has been in this state for more than one month, with the rest of the router seemingly operational. The interface was connected directly to my ADSL broadband and worked well for two years. But then, about a month ago, the interface went down. I saw the exact moment this happened recorded as a syslog message. The only information was that the interface status had changed to down.
Initially I thought this was a matter of reload the router and all will be well. Did not happen. Then I thought my broadband connection was to blame. However, this option was quickly ruled out. So I went on to exhaust all troubleshooting options, including reflashing the router with the saved image and totally changing the configuration. Still no change. I have had to go back to my old BT home hub for internet access. In terms of speed this actually works a lot better than the Cisco router. But I would still rather have the router connected to my broadband line. What can I do to bring the ADSL interface back to life?
How do I save/copy all of the router configuration entries onto a memory/flash usb drive? I did not configure the router myself (out of town when purchased). I have already downloaded the manual for that router and I want to understand exactly what she (person who configured router) did and identify any mistakes she might have made. Once downloaded, I assume I can print out all configuration settings.

It scrolls constantly and I am unable to enter ROMMON mode or stop it from scrolling. I've read of a possible problem with the IOS version but I'm unable to verify due to not being able to stop the scrolling.

Looking to setup a backup router for our disaster recovery plan. We currently have a Cisco 877W that was setup by our ISP. I can log into the device with Telnet and a console cable, but I am not good using IOS commands, so I would like to use CCA. Unfortunatley, I cannot access the router using the software. I assume something is disabled in the config. Like HTTP or something.

Dialer0 -> ppoe to managed VPN (172.16.28.1)

Router 2 is connected to another network through a managed VPN and that network also has internet access. I want to be able to have two routes to the internet on Router 2. And when Router 1 internet goes down packets get routed through the VPN instead.

Which does nothing when Router 1 has its Dialer0 interface shutdown, or goes offline completely.I suspect I could reverse the setup and have everything routed through the VPN by default and then if / when Dialer0 interface goes down it would switch to using Router 2, but if the problem is in the remote network and interface Dialer0 stays up, it would probably do the same thing... nothing.All devices mentioned are Cisco 877W routers with ADSL and a bunch of fast ethernet interfaces.
don't have an option to connect a console cable to my cisco router. The usb to serial converter will not work in windows7 only on XP.have physical access to my 881 Cisco Router. If I remember correctly these routers have a default ip address. This router is brand new, out of the box. I am thinking I can access it with the correct IP via network instead of console.

2 x X2-10GB-SR installed in port te1/1, 1/2 (optical)
1 x 20 x 1GB RJ45 installed in the top left of chasis ge2/1 - 2/20
1 x WS-X4908-10G-RJ45 8 port 1/2 card in the top right of chassis te3/1 - 3/8
We have te1/1 connecting the 2 switches, and various vlan's and connections on the 1GB RJ45's with no problems.
However, we have a number of 10Gbps BaseT connections te3/1 - te3/5 which are causing us issues. On a reload of the switch or removal / re-install of the cable it can take anywhere up to an hour for the port to become active again. So when we reload the switch, we may get a connection come up after say 3 mins, but the port next to it may not come up for 15-60 min. The cabling is all the same (CAT6 and has been tested/verified) and all connections go to Broadcom 10Gb cards in Dell 820 servers running vmware. We have the following set on the ports:
switchport mode access
spanning-tree portfast
No speed or duplex can be set on these ports - these options are not available in the config.
Once a link is finally established, it will hold the link solid with no problems, but this is a problem for us, we can't have a reboot take an undetermined amount of time for the link to come back.

I think I have to upgrade the IOS of the older switch to be the same as the 3750X.

I am trying to configure redundancy with SSO and I need to get the same IOS on both supervisors. My issue is that I get an error when I try to copy the IOS from either the sup-bootdisk or the disk0 to the slavesupbootdisk. The Error is Invalid argument.
I have tried also to tftp to the slavesupbootdisk and get the same result.
I want to copy a file from one ASR1001 and copy it to another. I ntried using tftp 32 but this is not going to work as the image is 315 MB.
