Cisco Switching/Routing :: 877W - Multiple Static Routes / Same Destination Dialer0 And Vlan1?

Jun 10, 2013

Is there any way to have my Cisco 877W Router alter from using one static route to another static route when another router on the network is reporting destination host unreachable?
Router 1 (
Dialer0 -> ppoe to internet
Vlan1 -> local
 Router 2 (
Dialer0 -> ppoe to managed VPN (
Vlan1 -> local
Router 2 is connected to another network through a managed VPN and that network also has internet access. I want to be able to have two routes to the internet on Router 2. And when Router 1 internet goes down packets get routed through the VPN instead.
I currently have on Router 2
ip route
ip route Dialer0
ip route 250
Which does nothing when Router 1 has its Dialer0 interface shutdown, or goes offline completely.I suspect I could reverse the setup and have everything routed through the VPN by default and then if / when Dialer0 interface goes down it would switch to using Router 2, but if the problem is in the remote network and interface Dialer0 stays up, it would probably do the same thing... nothing.All devices mentioned are Cisco 877W routers with ADSL and a bunch of fast ethernet interfaces.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2800 Series To Set Static Routes Per Vlan

Aug 3, 2012

Is there a way to set static routes per VLAN?Example VLAN 100 sends all traffic to and VLAN 200 sends all traffic to (2800 Series RTR)I have 5 networks that have their own gateway to the Internet via satellite link. Those networks run over the same infrastructure on separate VLANs. They frequently send traffic to each other, which gets sent over a slow SAT link. I introduced a router to the network and would like to set all my hosts default gateway to the local routers sub-interface then have a static route that send all traffic that is not on one of my 5 networks back to that VLANs respective SAT modem to get routed out over the Internet.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2821 - Setting Up Multiple Routes With Failover

Apr 2, 2013

I'm a bit perplexed atm with trying to set up multiple failover routes on a 2821 router.  Let me say that I have more experieince in a switched network as routing is seldom required where I work atm.  Here's my problem. I have a routing table set up as follows but only the primary routes work.  The failover routes will not kick in once the primary route is not there.
ip route
ip route 100
ip route
ip route 100
ip route
ip route 100
Ip addresses are not exact but it gets the point across.
Why the failover routes are not failing over?  The failover routes work if I remove the primary route from the config.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: RFC 3442 / IOS DHCP Server - Classless Static Routes On Clients

Nov 11, 2011

I was trying to find if it's possible to add the option for static routes for DHCP clients on Cisco IOS DHCP config mode. I'm looking to add a settings as defined on RFC 3442, like this one, set on ISC DHCPd server:
Global settings:
option rfc3442-classless-static-routes code 121 = array of integer 8;
option ms-classless-static-routes code 249 = array of integer 8;
And for the subnet declaration:
option rfc3442-classless-static-routes  24, 192, 168, 30, 192, 168, 10, 1;
option ms-classless-static-routes       24, 192, 168, 30, 92, 168, 10, 1;

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 871 Creating Multiple Static NAT

Mar 11, 2012

I am trying to configure a Cisco 871 router.I have 3 servers on my network that need static public IPs but also still need to communicate on the local network.
I have given my WAN interface the first IP in the block and set up PAT for the rest of the computers on the network which is working fine. Next I set up static NAT rules for the servers translating 3 of the remaining public IPs to the internal addresses of the servers.
I can access those servers internally using the public IPs but not from outside the network. A tracroute from outside the network gets dropped when it gets to my ISP.
I've never configured more than one static ip for a network before and i know i've just missed a step here. Do I also need to set up static routes? Will that update the next hop's routing table?

Cisco Routers :: RV180 - Subnet Calculation In Static Routes And Routing Table

Jan 3, 2013

I've been playing around with the Cisco RV180s for a while now and have come across a problem with the subnet calculation in the static routes and routing table. Essentially, if I configure up a static route for a /16 it's entered in the routing table as a /13. If I add a /24 it's entered in the routing table as a /16. I haven't tested every subnet size and combinations but this looks like a fairly fundamental maths bug.
As a side note, I notice that the release notes state the removal of SSH Server, however, I can not find any reference to it's existance prior to, did/does it exist in and if so where? .
Screenshots are below and an extract from the configuration file for reference.

From the config file:
route = {}
route[1] = {}
route[1]["active"] = "1"
route[1]["dstIpAddr"] = ""
route[1]["gwIpAddr"] = "

Cisco WAN :: Multiple Public IP Addresses On 877W

Nov 23, 2011

I would like to configure an 877w I just bought. It's connecting to a UK ADSL2+ link.I'm a penetration tester and I want to put the Cisco router in front of my existing firewall which has an IPS on it, so that it doesn't get in the way of port scans and vulnerability scans. My ISP has issued me with 14 usable addresses a/240 subnet and basically I want to be able to use the route with just the public IP addresses. I have configured Cisco routers before, but never with this type of configuration. It's always been single public IP address  NAT'd through to one or two internal LAN's.
It will be nice if I could assign the wireless and fast ethernet ports to the same VLAN using the public addresses. I don't want to use DHCP I'm quite happy statically assigning IP addresses to the computers wireless and LAN interfaces. I am reasonably certain this is possible because not sure how to do it and a little busy at the moment carrying out penetration tests.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: How To Debug A TCAM Switch On 877W

Feb 24, 2012

I've created a BVI2 where I bridged dot11 0.2 and vlan2 in order to have wired and wireless clients in the same vlan.Some wired client are not reachable from the lan. Wireless clients have no pbl in reaching each other.Monitoring a MAC address that is supposed to be behind the FA2 I have noticed that it moves to vlan2 when in fact it should be behind the FA2.Of course when "show mac-address-table" says it is behind Fa2 the ping to that MAC address works whereas when the TCAM reports it is behind vlan2 it doesn't. Once the MAC address is behind the vlan2 if I clear the mac-address-table and that mac-address is still put behinf Fa2 then the pings works again, sometime I have to perform twice the clear command before the MAC address goes back to the right location.I'd like to understand why the router moves that MAC address from Fa2 to vlan2 and that's the reason for my question in the subject.I don't have any problems for port Fa0 and Fa1."Show int fa2" doesn't show any problem/errors or the likes.BTW even if I force that MAC address to be statically behind FA2 the ping works fine but then stops and if I do "show mac-add" the static entry for it is still there... so looks like there us something that overrides that static entry. If clear everything and I have the mac-address be behind Fa2 then everything starts to work again. I used Fa3 instead of Fa2 and I get the same results.

Cisco VPN :: ASA 8.4(3) Dynamic VPN And Static Routes?

May 20, 2012

I am running an ASA with 8.4(3) and am trying to setup a dynamic VPN tunnel.  We are having a business reason to establish a VPN tunnel to customers who do not have nailed down IP addresses.  Now I found a number of documents that outline the steps involved.  It seems the basic steps were to Establish a regular tunnelAdd dynamic crypto mapAssign the dynamic crypto map to the tunnel created under step 1. While this sounds pretty straight forward and simple, while prepping for doing just this I hot a road block while thinking it through. In order for my ASA to put anything into the tunnel it has to have a route to the remote network pointing at my VPN peer at the  end of the tunnel.  How do I do this in a dynamic tunnel?  How do I add a dynamic route so the ASA knows which tunnel to stuff the traffic into?  How do I stop the traffic from just being send to the Internet?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5510 - Static Route By Interface Or Destination

Sep 21, 2011

Is it possible to assign a static route to an interface and not globally on a ASA 5510 ver 8.3.
I have two links between my offices one for Data via a VPN and one for video traffic which is a secure connection with QOS end to end.
All interfaces are on the same security level of 100 except Outside which is 0.
Office 1 Interfaces ASA 5510
VLAN  1               vOffice1Data
VLAN  3               vOffice1Video
VLAN 5                vInterOffice     (QOS  connection Between Offices)

At the moment if I try and access data from VLAN 1 to VLAN 4 it gets to the destination ok going through the static route and over the vInterOffice connection but the problem is VLAN 4 returning the traffic. This fails because there is no static route back to VLAN 1. If I create a static route from Office 2 to VLAN 1 then it will route all my data traffic over it as well.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 877W ADSL Line Interface Not Initializing?

Jan 19, 2012

Is the ADSL line interface on Cisco 877W not initialising a known issue? This interface on my router has been in this state for more than one month, with the rest of the router seemingly operational. The interface was connected directly to my ADSL broadband and worked well for two years. But then, about a month ago, the interface went down. I saw the exact moment this happened recorded as a syslog message. The only information was that the interface status had changed to down.
Initially I thought this was a matter of reload the router and all will be well. Did not happen. Then I thought my broadband connection was to blame. However, this option was quickly ruled out. So I went on to exhaust all troubleshooting options, including reflashing the router with the saved image and totally changing the configuration. Still no change. I have had to go back to my old BT home hub for internet access. In terms of speed this actually works a lot better than the Cisco router. But I would still rather have the router connected to my broadband line. What can I do to bring the ADSL interface back to life?

Cisco Routers :: Setting Up Static Routing Using Multiple RVS4000s

Oct 8, 2011

I have 8 RVs4000's to built a test system with. On each side of the network is 2 servers, both with 2 NIC's. Both are on different /24 networks.

The idea is to simulate a WAN link, with the RVS4000's G1 & G2 running in "Gateway" mode to simulate the WAN.  All other RVS4000's will be in Router mode ('R1,R2...etc..')  All networks in /24 range. As I understand it, the RVS4000 CANNOT take 2 diverse networks on the LAN side: - ie & on the LAN side. The NIC's on the server only need to communicate to the similar type of addresses on the other side - on server 1 to on server 2, but NOT to on server 2. The G1 & G2 link is so that all communications are routed between this link - as a testing point.
So, my questions are this:
1) Will this work? Is there any easier way of doing this? (Bear in mind this is the only equipment i have to do this).
2) Is the static routing I have thought of work? (see below)
I know using the RVS4000's inbuilt RIP may be easier, but I've never configured RIP routing.  As this is a test environment, using static routing would be enough to get it going.  No security lock down is required, all I'm trying to enable is for the servers to communicate with each other (NIC1 on both servers e.g on server 1 to on NIC 1server 2, and NI 2 on server 1 to NI 2 on server 2  The 10.1.x.x networks DO not need to talk to the 192.168.x.x networks.  THe G1 & G2 link is just for testing - but all communications must pass through here and be routed to their relevant networks on the other side.
