We have dlink dir320 router and cisco 877W.
 
The goal is to make a 877W to work as a wireless client of dlink dir320 and brigde the LAN&WLAN so than the LAN clients of 877W could take DHCP from Dlink 320 directly.

Cisco Wireless :: Configure 877W As Client?

I have a small CCENT/CCNA lab with a few switches and routers which I would like to connect to my D-link home router so that it can access the outside world. I have an 877W which I believe is supposed to be able to connect to a wifi network as a client.
 
I have seen reference to configuring a bridge but this is something outside of my current understanding. The idea is to have the 877W with it's wireless interface connected to my wireless network and the Lab connected to the 877's intergrated switch, using the 877 as a basic router connecting the two networks. I've scoured Google and put together a configuration using what I could find in forum posts and Cisco documentation. The D-link is set up for auto WPA/WPA2 Personal (TKIP or AES). I'm using an ASCII key with an update interval of 0. I've never had a problem with other devices trying to connecting to it.
 
At the moment the 877W seems to connect to the D-link but then lose it's association, from what I can see it looks like the 877 is trying to rotate the key? Once this happens my laptop loses it's wireless connection and I need to reboot the D-link to get it back. Interestingly the Windows 7 network icon shows three computers with a link between each as the network icon when this happens. It's as if the 877W acts as a Rogue access point and steals my client's connection. On one attempt the debug output showed the 877 geting an IP address from the D-link's DHCP so it does seem to connect initially.

Cisco Wireless :: 877W - Client Can't Ping Access Point

Ive been struggling with this issue for a week now with an 877w (now with andvanced ip ios) in short my wireless network consists of
 
The internal dot11 sibinterface 0.11 radio (IP Address 10.0.1.1) which on bridge group 1 (IP Address 10.0.0.10)  The SSID for the radio is on vlan 11 which has no ip address.
 
This works i can ping the internal network and internet
 
The guest dot11 sibinterface 0.10 radio (IP Address 10.0.3.1) which on bridge group 2 (IP Address 10.0.2.1)  The SSID for the radio is on vlan 10 which has no ip address.
 
This dosnt work i get no no recived packets on the clients network stats and i cant ping any name servers or the radio ip address.The client is listed as being successfully accosated with the show dot11 assoc commmand
 
Ive tried taking the guest wireless and creating a new vlan for it (so its not on the same vlan as the tmg firewall interface) so that i have only the dot11 radio and vlan 12 on brige group 2 but the same thing happens no traffic on the guest vlan.
 
Ive turned off all authentication while testing this and the wireless network is currently in open mode until its fixed ive also only configured whats neccessry to test the wireless connectivity (no radius etc) that will be added later, Im also not using dhcp yet and the client is configured to the apporprite adderess staticly ie 10.0.1.1 10.0.3.2 its not a dhcp issue

I've created a BVI2 where I bridged dot11 0.2 and vlan2 in order to have wired and wireless clients in the same vlan.Some wired client are not reachable from the lan. Wireless clients have no pbl in reaching each other.Monitoring a MAC address that is supposed to be behind the FA2 I have noticed that it moves to vlan2 when in fact it should be behind the FA2.Of course when "show mac-address-table" says it is behind Fa2 the ping to that MAC address works whereas when the TCAM reports it is behind vlan2 it doesn't. Once the MAC address is behind the vlan2 if I clear the mac-address-table and that mac-address is still put behinf Fa2 then the pings works again, sometime I have to perform twice the clear command before the MAC address goes back to the right location.I'd like to understand why the router moves that MAC address from Fa2 to vlan2 and that's the reason for my question in the subject.I don't have any problems for port Fa0 and Fa1."Show int fa2" doesn't show any problem/errors or the likes.BTW even if I force that MAC address to be statically behind FA2 the ping works fine but then stops and if I do "show mac-add" the static entry for it is still there... so looks like there us something that overrides that static entry. If clear everything and I have the mac-address be behind Fa2 then everything starts to work again. I used Fa3 instead of Fa2 and I get the same results.

Probably this is a trivial question but I have not found any response to it. What I would like is to set my cisco 877W rotuer up in order to act as a DNS server which forwards DNS queries following these simple rules:

1.- If the name is within my local domain *.ib forward them to my local DNS 172.21.238.229 and .230, and

2.- Else forward them to the chosen public domains (i.e. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

NTP server When I setup NTP server to take time from [URL] everything is working fine but as soon as I reset my router during boot I can see that router is first trying to get time before it's even connected to ATM and when it can't get time from NTP server it's removing NTP line from configuration (ntp server uk.pool.ntp.org source Dialer0 ). How I setup to wait with sync and do it once ATM connection is up and established? Or How to get IOS to leave this line and sync with NTP every 10 min)?

Is the ADSL line interface on Cisco 877W not initialising a known issue? This interface on my router has been in this state for more than one month, with the rest of the router seemingly operational. The interface was connected directly to my ADSL broadband and worked well for two years. But then, about a month ago, the interface went down. I saw the exact moment this happened recorded as a syslog message. The only information was that the interface status had changed to down.
 
Initially I thought this was a matter of reload the router and all will be well. Did not happen. Then I thought my broadband connection was to blame. However, this option was quickly ruled out. So I went on to exhaust all troubleshooting options, including reflashing the router with the saved image and totally changing the configuration. Still no change. I have had to go back to my old BT home hub for internet access. In terms of speed this actually works a lot better than the Cisco router. But I would still rather have the router connected to my broadband line. What can I do to bring the ADSL interface back to life?

Is there any way to have my Cisco 877W Router alter from using one static route to another static route when another router on the network is reporting destination host unreachable?
 
Router 1 (192.168.2.253)
Dialer0 -> ppoe to internet
Vlan1 -> local 192.168.2.0/24
 Router 2 (192.168.2.254)
Dialer0 -> ppoe to managed VPN (172.16.28.1)
Vlan1 -> local 192.168.2.0/24
 
Router 2 is connected to another network through a managed VPN and that network also has internet access. I want to be able to have two routes to the internet on Router 2. And when Router 1 internet goes down packets get routed through the VPN instead.
 
I currently have on Router 2
 
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.2.253
ip route 10.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 Dialer0
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 172.16.28.5 250
 
Which does nothing when Router 1 has its Dialer0 interface shutdown, or goes offline completely.I suspect I could reverse the setup and have everything routed through the VPN by default and then if / when Dialer0 interface goes down it would switch to using Router 2, but if the problem is in the remote network and interface Dialer0 stays up, it would probably do the same thing... nothing.All devices mentioned are Cisco 877W routers with ADSL and a bunch of fast ethernet interfaces.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Works In Bridge Mode Only

Restarting the e4200 did not work.  Resetting using the switch at the back did not resolve the issue.  I was able to reset it via the 192.168.1.1 web page.  After restoring my settings from backup, the issue remained the same.  This was not alleviated after I updated the firmware.  Plugging into one of the ports with a cat5 cable with my Mac, I was able to get an IP, yet I was not able to surf; same case with my MacBook.
 
Doing the 30-30-30 reboot did not fix this issue and all the while the front white light on the router went and stayed, solid.To see if I could get this to do ANY sort of meaningful internetting (is that even a word?) I put the e4200 in bridge mode and when I put the cable modem in, and all that plugs into this router works.  This, of course, means that there is:
 
1. No Wifi signal and

2. It will not reset to factory settings.

What kind of hardware are people using for mobile bridges? I have not had good luck with Cisco 1242's in bridge mode with mobile-client enabled. The only reason we're using the Cisco access point over standard industrial bridges is because we need to manually forward the mac addresses of the devices behind the bridge. These are being installed on robotic forklifts. They have a generic ethernet scrolling marquee installed that does not maintain any active connections and drops from the fowarding table in the bridge if not staticly configured. I'm looking for an alternative because the roaming is not nearly as smooth as it should be.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Running E3000 In Client Bridge Mode?

I have replaced my main router WRT300N running dd-wrt with the a stock E4200 and an old WRT54G aslo running dd-wrt configured for wireless client bridge. Now that I'm learning more about 802.11N, I was wondering what client can I use to achieve 5ghz simultaneously radio transmission since my current setup cannot do this in the 5ghz band. Can the E3000 be ran in wireless client bridge mode, if not what product can provide this? On the other thought am I understanding MIMO?

I need a device with IOS so that the PSK keys can be encrypted when viewing. I need to have the config backed up and the PSK can't be in clear text.

how this switch module works in 2911 router? I have two 2911 routers in HSRP configuration for redundancy with crossover cable between switch modules. OSPF running on routers.If active router loses its power and then comes back again, it boots first, its internal link to switch module comes up and it starts to forward packets to switch module. The switch module starts to boot only after router is ready. So I have outage of about 3-4 minutes. For our real-time applications it is way too long.

any way to start booting of the switch module before router gets ready?I understand I can boot it manually, but it is only after router is ready. Only way to get around it I found is to disable internal link and use router interface to connect to the switch module.

I have a 512MB USB Flash device and was able to boot the IOS on the C2960 from it.After that i tried to Copy the IOS file from the USB to the system flash, but it could not find the USB Device.At plugging in the device the systems tells me: "Transfer type 2 not supported" I configured the USB device in NTFS and FAT both are able to boot with the ROMMON, but the normal system does not accept them and i know i can do the copy over a TFTP from my laptop, but it is strange that rommon accepts the usb device and the system does not?

I've got a 3560-X that passes POST according to console, but there are issues nonetheless...USB console doesn't work. RJ45 works just fine.  No status lights turn on at any point (e.g. syst, xps...). 10g network module is installed with a 10g LRM SFP. All lights on the module are amber. However, it passes according to POST. Switch passes traffic, obeys config, etc. Link lights on RJ45 ports work fine. This was brand new out of the box. Thinking about trying IOS reload..

It has ip helper configured that points to DHCP.From 4500  switch port  - port  x connects to 2960 port.Port x is configured as trunk between 4500 and 2960.

vlan 10

All user ports are configured under vlan 10 and as access ports.Port x is trunk port connected frpm 2960  to 4500 switch allowing vlan 1 and 10 only.This switch has no default gateway configured.
 
We connected user PC on 2960 switchports and they were able to get the IP from DHCP server and were able to access the network? My question is how users on 2960 switch are able to access the network without ip default-gateway configured  on 2960 switch?

System Configuration register is 0x2
 
I know these are no longer supported, but I have to ready them for migration. Recently a problem began with these switches.  What happens is that when I telnet to them, I cannot authenitcate via TACACS.  This works fine for all our other IOS equipment, just not for these 2 switches.  The error is:" % Error in authentication"  and then I get kicked back to the login prompt.
 
The odd thing is that when I connect to the switch via the console port, I can authenticate fine with TACACS.

D-Link DIR615 With DD-WRT Client Bridge?

I recently discovered the dd-wrt world and am attempting to make a wireless adapter for my Xbox360 using a D-Link DIR615 rev C1 router I purchased and linking it to my home wireless network router (also a D-Link DIR615 but rev B2). I successfully loaded the dd-wrt firmware onto the C1 router and have attempted (multiple times) to set it up for use with my 360 following the instructions posted here at the dd-wrt wiki posting. However, after following the instructions to the letter I have been unsuccessful. After setting it up I can get the router (connected via ethernet to my laptop) to "connect" but it lists the connection as connected to a "unidentified network" with no network access.

DIR-655 Won't Acknowledge Existence Of Client Bridge

I've recently purchased a Buffalo WHR-HP-GN flashed with the latest version of DD-WRT with plans involving its use as a client bridge and I have had nothing but problems trying to get this thing connected to my wireless network in client bridge mode. The closest I've gotten to getting this thing connected to my network is by setting the Buffalo to 'G-Only' mode and setting the security to 'WPA2-Mixed' with 'TKIP-only' for the encryption, however I can only ping the D-link via my notebook and the DD-WRT web interface; no other devices nor the router can ping the laptop or the WHR (Neither of them are listed in the 'connected clients' page on the D-link's web interface). The Buffalo works brilliantly when pairing it with an old WRT54G that I've dug out of the closet and a friend's WZR-HP-300NH.

With the WHR-HP-GN, so far I have:

1. Flashed the Buffalo 'Professional' (really DD-WRT with their own branding) firmware to the latest DD-WRT release compatible with the router.

2. Flashed the firmware to the second newest release of DD-WRT.

3. Flashed the firmware back to stock, then to Buffalo's alpha release of their 'Professional' firmware, then to their 'User-Friendly' (read: proprietary) firmware.

4. Flashed the firmware back to the latest DD-WRT version.

5. Set the wireless properties to 'G-only', encryption to WPA2/WPA-PSK TKIP (the closest I've been to connecting this bridge to the network, though no other device including the DIR-655 can see the bridge or the laptop it's connected to).

6. Same as #5 except tweaking with different combinations of wireless modes, channel widths, and security + encryption schemes (WPA only, WPA2 only, TKIP or AES, no security).

With the DIR-655, so far I've tried

1. Power cycling it.

2. Flashing the firmware from 1.21 to the latest (I think 1.35NA).

3. Falling back to 'G-only' mode with various encryption schemes (including none).

4. Set it to 'N-only' with various encryption schemes.

5. Meddled with different channels and channel widths.

That's about it. I really don't think there's anything wrong with the WHR as it works great with different routers/APs. Maybe I've just experienced my first caveat with owning a router that was manufactured two years before 802.11n was ratified as a standard?

I have a block of Public IP's so the PPPoA Dialer 0 connection would get x.x.x.185/29 I would like to bridge this directly to the FW WAN port and set that to x.x.x.185/29 with a gateway of x.x.x.186/32.Currently I am using it in router mode with no NAT or FW and am losing a Public IP as I need to set the FW WAN as x.x.x.186 with a GW of x.x.x.185 I am setting BVI 1 as x.x.x.185/29 and Dialer0 as IP Unnumbered BVI 1.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: VLAN Bridge With Catalyst 3750

I have 3 VLANs here that need to be on the same network segment.  They are going to be used by our Wi-Fi network (with Aironet APs), bound to 3 different SSIDs (as Aironet APs doesnt allow multiple SSID per VLAN), each one with a different authentication method and server.Is there a way to bridge those VLANs together with a Catalyst 3750 switch?  I tryed configuring an IP address on one of the VLAN interfaces, then configuring a bridge with the vlan-bridge protocol (Catalyst 3750 doesnt have the "ieee" bridge protocol type) and put all 3 VLAN interfaces on the same bridge-group, but it didnt work (even with "bridge x route ip").I also tryed configuring IRB bridging, with the 3 VLAN interfaces on the same bridge-group and an IP address on the BVI interface (the way I used to do with old 2600 routers).  Same result.(actually, I didint test to see if the interfaces are actually being "bridged", but I see neither of them can reach the router)
