Cisco Switching/Routing :: How To Debug A TCAM Switch On 877W

I've created a BVI2 where I bridged dot11 0.2 and vlan2 in order to have wired and wireless clients in the same vlan.Some wired client are not reachable from the lan. Wireless clients have no pbl in reaching each other.Monitoring a MAC address that is supposed to be behind the FA2 I have noticed that it moves to vlan2 when in fact it should be behind the FA2.Of course when "show mac-address-table" says it is behind Fa2 the ping to that MAC address works whereas when the TCAM reports it is behind vlan2 it doesn't. Once the MAC address is behind the vlan2 if I clear the mac-address-table and that mac-address is still put behinf Fa2 then the pings works again, sometime I have to perform twice the clear command before the MAC address goes back to the right location.I'd like to understand why the router moves that MAC address from Fa2 to vlan2 and that's the reason for my question in the subject.I don't have any problems for port Fa0 and Fa1."Show int fa2" doesn't show any problem/errors or the likes.BTW even if I force that MAC address to be statically behind FA2 the ping works fine but then stops and if I do "show mac-add" the static entry for it is still there... so looks like there us something that overrides that static entry. If clear everything and I have the mac-address be behind Fa2 then everything starts to work again. I used Fa3 instead of Fa2 and I get the same results.

I am not able to find the exact bug for Cisco 3750E stack - Debug Exception (Could be NULL pointer dereference) Exception (0x2000) error. Closest i can find is CSCsa72400 which only affects ver 12.2(20)SE4.All the stacks (3 switches) are running 12.2(50)SE3, It appears that the switch 1 crashed and reloaded. My hunch is its software but i cant find any related bugs. It could be hardware issue as well ?

I'd like to know what is "masks" in the output of show platform tcam utilization. What does 784 mean? What effect has the number of mask in the amount of supported unicast direct routes?
I'm having trouble comparing the capacity of theese two switches, regarding unicast directly-connected routes. I know the second switch has cpu utilization issues and ip unicast failed routes over 4096 arp entries. What would be the case for the first one?

I had a lot of problems with TCAM table in the past and made changes in SDM ended whit that. But now want to be proactive and anticipate the problems in my TCAM table.
If the my template is "default desktop" they support a number of indirect IPv4 routes of 2k. I wanna know automatically by my management tools if this number reaches 1.9k.
That way I can take corrective actions before the problems starts on my network.

we have a WS-X6K-SUP2-2GE running CATOS software, we are facing a TCAM exhaustion.I would like to know the following:
1. during an exhaustion, based on what ACLs will be kept in hardware or moved to software? the name or number gives any precedence to an ACL over another ACL?
2. If the TCAM's utilisation was on the limit and we increased ACEs to a specific ACL, all the ACL will be moved to software or only the new entries?

We have a 3750 stack with a mix of 3750G and 3750X switches. The current active template on the switch is desktop default and we are running EIGRP on the switch with large routing table so we get the TCAM error that a specific prefix cannot be programmed in TCAM memory so it will be software forwarded.%PLATFORM_UCAST-4-PREFIX: One or more, more specific prefixes could not be programmed into TCAM and are being covered by a less specific prefix, and the packets may be software forwarded
This error is quite frequent on a daily basis. My question is that will this error create a high CPU situation and affect traffic processing on the stack causing ESX Hosts to become unresponsive?

Probably this is a trivial question but I have not found any response to it. What I would like is to set my cisco 877W rotuer up in order to act as a DNS server which forwards DNS queries following these simple rules:
1.- If the name is within my local domain *.ib forward them to my local DNS 172.21.238.229 and .230, and
2.- Else forward them to the chosen public domains (i.e. 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

NTP server When I setup NTP server to take time from [URL] everything is working fine but as soon as I reset my router during boot I can see that router is first trying to get time before it's even connected to ATM and when it can't get time from NTP server it's removing NTP line from configuration (ntp server uk.pool.ntp.org source Dialer0 ). How I setup to wait with sync and do it once ATM connection is up and established? Or How to get IOS to leave this line and sync with NTP every 10 min)?

I try to debug an OSPF and an ICMP problem using the debug ip ospf command and the debug icmp command but not output appear on the terminal. As the switch is remote, I entered the terminal monitor command of course.

Is the ADSL line interface on Cisco 877W not initialising a known issue? This interface on my router has been in this state for more than one month, with the rest of the router seemingly operational. The interface was connected directly to my ADSL broadband and worked well for two years. But then, about a month ago, the interface went down. I saw the exact moment this happened recorded as a syslog message. The only information was that the interface status had changed to down.
Initially I thought this was a matter of reload the router and all will be well. Did not happen. Then I thought my broadband connection was to blame. However, this option was quickly ruled out. So I went on to exhaust all troubleshooting options, including reflashing the router with the saved image and totally changing the configuration. Still no change. I have had to go back to my old BT home hub for internet access. In terms of speed this actually works a lot better than the Cisco router. But I would still rather have the router connected to my broadband line. What can I do to bring the ADSL interface back to life?

I have an 877W router that I would like to have a 2nd pre-configured backup for. I was thinking of getting another 870 series (probably an 877) router, as the more expensive wireless option is not actually required. Am I right to assume that I could simply copy the contents of my current config.txt file onto the second router?

Is there any way to have my Cisco 877W Router alter from using one static route to another static route when another router on the network is reporting destination host unreachable?
Router 1 (192.168.2.253)
Dialer0 -> ppoe to internet
Vlan1 -> local 192.168.2.0/24
Router 2 (192.168.2.254)
Dialer0 -> ppoe to managed VPN (172.16.28.1)
Vlan1 -> local 192.168.2.0/24
Router 2 is connected to another network through a managed VPN and that network also has internet access. I want to be able to have two routes to the internet on Router 2. And when Router 1 internet goes down packets get routed through the VPN instead.
I currently have on Router 2
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.2.253
ip route 10.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 Dialer0
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 172.16.28.5 250
Which does nothing when Router 1 has its Dialer0 interface shutdown, or goes offline completely.I suspect I could reverse the setup and have everything routed through the VPN by default and then if / when Dialer0 interface goes down it would switch to using Router 2, but if the problem is in the remote network and interface Dialer0 stays up, it would probably do the same thing... nothing.All devices mentioned are Cisco 877W routers with ADSL and a bunch of fast ethernet interfaces.

I have two 3750-X configured to be a stack and I am planning to re-rack these somewhere else. What I would like to know is what are the effects of having the master switch itself lose power? Does it immediately just make the member take over master (there should be no election since there are only 2 switches??) and there would be no loss of connectivity?

I have 1 x SG300 28P in Layer 3 mode which is the default gateway for all the IP phones that will be installed. The PC's ont he network will use the existing default gateway which is another router. I will have another 2 x SG300 28P devices in layer 2 mode which are connected to the Layer 3 SG300 28P.
My question - Are the IP's that registered against the TCAM limit only the devies which physically plug into the SG300 28P switches ? I assume other computers on the network which are plugged into another switch and don't use the default gateway of the SG300 (its only for voice) they then wouldn't be registered in the TCAM ?
The site has around 65 computers currently and obviously plugging in 65 IP phones we're going to hit a limit of over 100 IP's. My thoughts were to potentially keep the computers and Phones seperate on a couple of the switches to keep the IP's in the TCAM to a minimum..

I am seeing the following log messages appear on our border edge 7600 router (SUP720-3BXL) The messages seem to appear when tag switching has been enabled on the interface, so somehow related I presume. The MPLS forwarding table is very small however. [code]
I can't see anything that is using up the ACL_TCAM HI BANK using "show tcam global acl" There aren't any ACL's applied to any of the interfaces, or policy-maps. The only ACL's in use are for SNMP, ntp, and VTY. These are very small any way. Interface Gi1/22, and 1/1 have tag switching enabled. [code]
The router has a full BGP routing table learned via an upstream (EBGP) peer neighbor, and an IBGP peer. The CPU utilisation seems fine, as is memory usage. CEF seems to be running okay. It's currently running [code] Are prefix lists part of TCAM? Is the router over-resourced holding a full bgp routing table?

The last few days I've been exploring options in getting rid of some old routers accross a wan connections. I have a cat 3560 to play with and I thought I would try and use the no switchport command test out routing with switch. I've got some type of route issue and I tried a few things which I thought would fix the issue but had no effect. I'll post the config and a few commands so you can see what the basic setup is.
Here we can see in the arp that it knows about both 10.7.1.2 (PC unable to ping 10.3.3.254) as well as 10.3.3.254 (ASA).I tried adding in a ip route of 10.7.0.0 255.255.0.0 10.3.3.110 as well as 10.3.3.254. Neither produced the results I wanted allowing 10.7.1.2 (PC) to ping the ASA (10.3.3.254). [code]

I have been looking into this for a while and I can't seem to figure out why my 2nd vlan is not able to connect properly to the net.
My switch has 12 ports where my devices connects directly, they are all on Vlan 1 and they all work perfectly. on Port 12 I have a dlink router that is connected to a cable modem. the dlink router has an Ip address of 192.168.0.20
I created a second vlan (vlan2) and enabled dhcp relay on it. then I assigned port 9 on the switch to (vlan2)my laptop which is connected to port 9 seems to get an ip address fine and able to ping only some devices on my network (vlan1) and is not able to go out to the internet. I think it has to do with the routes. [code]

I have the task of replicating the router config on a 3825 router on a 3750 switch. Reason is we are taking out the router and replacing it with the switch to make use of the router for other functions.
Below is main part of the router config:

The 3750 switch I have runs C3750E-UNIVERSALK9-M, Version 12.2(55)SE3 on a LAN BASE license.
The first thing I have done is to order for a license upgrade to IP BASE which would give the support for OSPF routing.I do not see much of an issue with the Interface configs, however, I am not too sure about replicating the routing config on the switch.
My question is can I run the commands as shown for the OSPF routing on the switch? If not, can I get suggestions on how best to set this up on the switch?
